[whoosh]

[funky suspenseful music plays]

[Gawain] What is this feeling?
It's like I'm overflowing with power.

I don't know what's going on,

but I know this.

Next hole belongs to us. Believe it.

- Gawain?
- [Gawain inhales deeply]

Aah!

What is it? What's wrong?

Don't look at me.

You're the one who was screaming.

Oh, was I? Sorry about that.

I was just blowin' off
a little steam, that's all.

You know, Gawain,
I'm not sure you're even human.

Look who's talking.

You're the one who can magically see
where the ball should go.

We could both be aliens from outer space.
Did you ever think of that?

You're spacey enough.

And you come from Planet Grumpy.

[laughs]

[chuckles softly]

[Gawain and Lancelot laughing]

[tense downcast music plays]

It can't be. It can't.

His drive is better than mine?

Three days ago, he wasn't even
in the same league as me.

[grunts]

I'm sorry, but would you mind
getting out of my way?

[Quester grumbles]

How is that... that dumb kid better than me?

[inhales sharply]

Aah!

Hey, Quester!

What did that driver ever do to you?

Those things are expensive! [grunts]

Quester, what is going on with you?

Get a grip on yourself.

What was he thinking,
doing a dumb thing like that?

I'm sorry.

You shouldn't have to do that.

Oh, it's all right. Don't worry about it.

Oh. Found it!

It looks okay.

[Bilford] Thanks.

He's not used to being
anything but the best

when it comes to distance.

It's shaken his self-confidence,
thrown him off.

I don't know if he'll recover in time.

[softly] Oh.

Huh?

Why are you implying
that Gawain is the one to blame for that?

They were competing,
and that was the result.

Right. Sorry.

Didn't mean it to sound that way.

[nearby thwack]

Sounds like the Brits teed off.

We should get back quickly.

Thank you for finding it.

But this doesn't change anything.

My team is still gonna win,
even if... I have to play alone.

[Gawain grumbles]

It's about time. Where you been?

Hurry it up. We already took our shot.

[Bilford] Let's head to the green.

[upbeat dramatic music playing]

[Lancelot] The Brits got on the green
in two strokes.

And with her putting,
she'll definitely get a birdie from there.

The problem is the Americans.

[Bilford] The grain is with me,

but I can't tell
how hard it'll break right.

[grunts]

He missed it!

A birdie's the best they can get.

Look at that. We finally got a break.

[ethereal hum]

[dong]

[mystical whir building]

It's an eagle!

- We're on the board, at last!
- [Lancelot grunts]

All right!

We got all the momentum on our side now.

We're gonna catch up
to those guys in no time!

[Gawain] Yeah! Five in a row!

That's five points for us!

You seem awfully excited.

[laughs]

Why shouldn't I be?
We've already got five points.

Ms. Aria said we only needed four.

She did, but that was when we thought
the matchups would be different.

Now I'm not so sure.

Nah, don't worry.

I've got a feeling that Leibel, Yumiko,
and the others are gonna do just fine.

And anyway, we're on a roll here.

[grunts]

[sighs]

There. My body's finally warmed up.

All right, so the yanks scored four points
on the front nine,

and the Japanese scored five.

[Gawain giggles]

- [Ice] That little gnome was a surprise.
- Wash your hands?

[Ice] Well, I think we've given them
enough of a head start.

I agree, and I was wondering

when you were finally going to stop
going so easy on them, Ice.

[chuckles] So you could tell, right?

As good as I am,
even I can't win this competition

without at least
a tiny bit of effort from you.

What's this I'm hearing?
A confession of love?

- [Sfida] Oh, do shut up.
- [Ice] I was only having a laugh.

As for the Americans,
they're already out of the running.

The shorter one can't get over
that he's been beaten at his strong suit,

and by someone much younger than he is.

He's badly rattled.

His mind's not in the match anymore.

You're right.

As always,
you've summed up things perfectly.

Honestly,

I can't tell you how attractive
I find your keen powers of observation.

Seriously, how about we go on a date
when this match is over, Sfida?

- [Sfida] Not on your life.
- [Ice groans] So that's a "no" then?

Oh well.

How's about we shut 'em out
and score every point from here on in?

Oh, I see. Playtime's over?

You're finally getting serious?

Good. Let's go.

[Ice] For the king!

[tense music playing]

THE 10TH HOLE
"HELL SLOPE"

[Lancelot] Huh. We've reached that hole.

Huh...

Which one should I use?

A pitching wedge would be the best club
for your flight distance.

Yeah, you're right.

I wonder if it's a good thing

that Lancelot's better
at choosing clubs for me than I am.

One thing.

Aim for a spot on this side of the cup.

If it lands on the steep slope
beyond the cup,

it's going to roll downhill,

and I'm not confident
I can putt it out of that rough.

And I'm begging, don't hit it in a bunker.

Okay, I'm not gonna hit it
in the stinking bunker!

I'm gonna land it right on the green
and leave Lancelot with an easy putt.

[Sfida] It's almost time.

Yeah! That one's lookin' good.

Perfect.

Now.

[wind gusts]

Wha... What went wrong?

The wind came up all of a sudden.

You knobs.

You practiced here two days
and you didn't notice?

That crosswind is a feature of this hole.

Ain't that right, darlin'?

Yes.

The wind comes through every 15 minutes,
starting at 10:00 a.m.

And so, since it blows down
from the northwest,

it pushes the ball... back and to the right.

Well, of course they would know that.
This is their home turf.

They've got the advantage.

- Not entirely.
- Hmm?

After all, it's one thing
to know when and where

and from what direction
the wind will blow on one hole,

but how well do they know
the other 17 holes on this course?

Yeah, you're right.

It's not like the Brits have been
all that great so far.

The wind is a little stronger
than usual today.

I'd hit it on the diagonal,
about 11 full yards to the left.

Sounds lovely.

We lay back and let you lot
have your fun on the front nine.

But this is the back nine,
so it's bloody showtime.

[dramatic sting]

That look in his eyes.

[dramatic music plays]

[gasps] When did he wake up?

That's not the way
he was hitting them before.

[wind howls]

The ball is perfectly placed, as always.

You have great control, Ice.

[scoffs] What do you expect?
A date with you's on the line.

[gasps]

Even if he did know about the wind,

it's amazing
he could hit it so accurately.

Well, how do you like that?

It turns out, they've been playing possum
all this time.

[tense music plays]

[Gawain] They birdied.

So then, they win this hole,
no matter what we do.

Doggone it!

And after you did such a great job
getting the ball out of the bunker

and close to the cup.

[tense music continues]

[Lancelot] The Americans
forfeited the hole.

They're in bad shape.

Who would have thought
Quester would hit it out of bounds

on his tee shot?

Boy, they're kinda falling apart,
aren't they?

Quester certainly is.
That's making things tough for Bilford.

So, right now,
the Brits are our main rivals.

- [clubs rattle]
- [footsteps]

After watching them on this hole,

you can see
why they've won the Camelot Cup so often.

[Gawain grumbles]

[music fades out]

THE 11TH HOLE
"GARDEN GATE"

[Gawain] Oh no, not this hole.

It's one of the top five holes
I hate most in the world.

[Lancelot] It's essential to hit
controlled iron shots on this one.

With so many trees,
you have to get around them,

because you can't go over them.

What was your best score
on this one during practice?

Not good.

This hole is hell for someone
who likes to hit it straight.

All right then, here's what we'll do.

You hit it straight

and get us into that clear spot
between the two biggest trees.

From there, I can hit a draw
that should set you up

with a clear shot at the green.

If all goes well,
we'll be on the green in three strokes.

[Gawain] Got it.

Right. We're up first.

[Gawain] Oh man.
The Brits have the honor now.

And from the looks of it,
I think he's gonna try to hit a slice.

Yes, it would appear so.

But the bigger problem with this hole
is there's nothing to aim for.

The trees block your view
of the course up ahead.

I remember.

Even Liebel and Todoin had a tricky time
handling this one during their practice.

Getting through those trees,
without hitting one, is nearly impossible.

Well... let's see what he does.

A tricky little puzzle, I reckon.

[chuckles]

[dramatic music plays]

That's it. Right between
the second and third tree.

I didn't hear the ball hit a tree.

It seems it got through.

[chuckles]

[Gawain] Hmm.

[chuckles] Good luck, little gnome.

- [thwack]
- Yah!

He actually hit it straight.

He... didn't try a fade?

[Gawain] All right!
Just where I was supposed to go.

[Ice] And he's glad he did it?

- [thwack]
- [grunts]

[Bilford grunts]

[footsteps]

[Lancelot] The important thing
with this stroke

is to get us around the next tree hazard.

- [thwack]
- [whoosh]

Now we'll just have to hope
I got us close enough to the green.

Oh, of course you did. You're the best!

[footsteps]

Huh? Whoa. Look at that.

That's the Brits' ball.

Boy, it really went far.

[Lancelot] Yes, but...

it's not the distance that's impressive.

We're in a great position here.

At your service.

You know I'd do anything for you,
Sfida, my darling.

[chuckles]

That guy with the porcupine hair
is super annoying.

[Lancelot] Yes, but in his first stroke,

he not only managed
to get through the trees,

he also landed the ball
in an excellent spot.

My second stroke, on the other hand...

was a rather disappointing one,
to say the least.

- [tense music plays]
- [wind gusting]

It looks like the wind
is picking up a little bit.

So close to going in.

Well, at least we know we'll get a birdie,
and that should be good enough.

Yes, it should.

That's not good.

Okay.

- You're hitting it?
- [Gawain] Mm-hmm.

I know I could declare it unplayable
and move it away from this tree,

but if I hit it just right,

I can get it up and over the tree
and onto the green.

I think he's actually going to play it.

If you bottle it, it's your own fault.

[tense music ends]

I hope he can do it.

Because the way things stand,

our only chance
of getting back into this match

is for the Japanese
and the Brits to destroy each other.

[groans]

Well, that sure didn't work.

I tried to warn you.

A wise player knows his own limitations.

Too bad. So that means,
the Brits are gonna win another hole.

I'm really sorry, Lancelot.

I should've taken the penalty
and got a better shot at the green.

No, you have absolutely
no need to apologize.

I'm sorry. You shouldn't have even
had to try that shot.

Now let's see
if I can atone for my failure.

Well... it's not the end of the world.

Don't beat yourself up, buddy.

- [wind gusts]
- [leaves rustle]

[Lancelot] It's about 80 yards to the pin.
Steady breeze coming in from the left.

I've got to try and chip this in,
no matter what.

- [suspenseful music plays]
- We'll make par if I can do it.

Though the Brits
are virtually certain to get a birdie.

All the same, we can't afford
to let them gain any more momentum.

Points-wise, we're still in the lead,
and I'd prefer to keep it that way.

[Bilford grunts]

[Gawain] What's up with him?
Why is he taking so long?

Never seen him think about it so much.

Think about it too much
and you're liable to miss it.

[Lancelot] If they start dominating here,

Gawain's emotions
will get the best of him,

and we'll be in considerable trouble.

All right! Looking good!

Oh no. Too short.

What a shame. And I was so excited.

Are you going to take your turn or what?

At five strokes already, there's no point.

Heck of a shot, Lancelot.

I muffed it.

[laughs] What are you talking about?
You put it right on the green.

[Lancelot] Well, so much for this hole.

Hey.

Will ya help me read the putting lines
on this one again? Will ya?

I know this is our fifth stroke
and we've got no chance to win this hole,

but that makes me wanna
finish it off in one putt even more.

Oh.

I'm sorry.

I know you showed me
the putting line before,

and I missed, and that was unforgivable,

but it'll never happen again,
ever, ever, ever!

Okay.

How is it you always cheer me up?

[tense music plays]

It's eight and a half yards to the pin

with the grain against him.

- [ethereal hum]
- The line hooks left, right, left.

Aim for 20 inches left of the cup.

Hit it hard,

as if it were a ten-yard putt.

[Gawain] Got it.

[gasps]

It went in!

I never pulled off a putt
like that before.

Wha...

Hold on. How could he have sunk that putt?

Well, he did, so suck it up.

Yeah, yeah.

[humming]

[whistles]

[Gawain] Boy. You know, there's nothin'
I like better than hittin' a long drive.

But sinking a tricky putt
feels pretty darn good too.

I'm glad you made it,

but the Brits took the point
for that hole.

They're starting to run away
with the match,

and we can't stop them.

That doesn't sound like you, Lancelot.

You always have
so much confidence in yourself.

I know.

But we had a chance to win the last hole,
and I'm the one who lost it for us.

[Gawain] Hmm.

THE 12TH HOLE
"CALM RIVER"

[Gawain] Finally. A wide-open fairway
where I can hit it straight and far.

- No, you can't.
- Huh?

What do you mean?
It's a perfect hole for that.

This hole is a par five.

So what?

According to the rules of play,
they declare that,

the hitting order continues on
from the previous hole.

So you're saying,

since I hit the last ball
on the last hole,

then the one who tees off
on this hole has to be...

- [thwack]
- [whoosh]

Look at that!
That must have gone 260 yards at least.

Well... come on, Lancelot! You got this!

What now?

How can I match her distance?

But if I lay up...

and he puts it on the green,
or close to it, with his next shot...

Gawain may excel at distance,
but his approach technique is iffy.

So I'll just have to
try to hit it as hard as I can.

[gasps]

The flashes aren't lined up!

[gasps]

It went straight up.

[breathes shakily]

[Bilford] That's not good.
Now their team's gone off the rails too.

What's going on with you?

Sorry.

- Must have taken my eye off the ball.
- Not your swing, your attitude.

You keep apologizing
and acting all depressed.

Huh?

H... Hey.

[Lancelot] I'll have to find a way
to reach the green with our third stroke.

If not... we'll lose.

[murmurs anxiously]

I don't know how the Japan team
scored any points at all.

They're a mess.

That last shot certainly didn't
do them any favors.

[Lancelot] I've got to pull it together
for Gawain's sake,

since I put us in this mess.

The only one who can save us is me.

[Gawain] Hmm.

Hey. What are you doing?

Just declare it unplayable
and go ahead with your third stroke.

Huh?

[grumbles]

Bilford, is the top of this rock
considered out of bounds?

[Bilford] Huh? Uh, well... no.
Technically, it's just a hazard, but...

Oinky, Cheep-Cheep, let's go.

Huh? Wait. You're not really gonna...

- [Sfida gasps]
- What the... You must be a nutter.

[Gawain grunts]

[panting, grunting]

- [all gasp]
- [suspenseful music plays]

[grunts] Wah!

- Gawain!
- [Gawain grunts]

You said

that it was up to you to fix this,
like it was all your fault or something.

But you're the one who's been fixing
all the mistakes I've been making

up until now.

[straining] You don't get to
carry all the burdens.

[grunts] This time...

this time, I get to
carry the burden myself.

[rousing music plays]

It's sitting here,
right on top of this smooth ledge.

I can use my driver.
