Liverpool is a city in shock.

In the past week,

it's seen violent killings,

two of those killings

in people's homes.

I've got nearly 30 years' service

in the police.

I've never seen this before.

Two murders in two days.

What's going on here?

The sh**ting took the life

of 28-year-old Ashley Dale.

There's no obvious reason

why she should be shot.

And they'd been together

for around six years.

He won't give us anything in

relation to who was responsible.

His behaviour suggests that

it's something he's involved in.

The hunt is on to find the k*ller

of Olivia Pratt-Korbel,

nine years old and k*lled in

the most shocking circumstances.

to k*ll here.

This is the man we are hunting for.

The man that m*rder*d Olivia.

OK, Cheryl, can you tell us

a little bit about Olivia

so that people can understand

what Olivia was like?

Erm

She was amazing.

She loved life.

She was my little shadow.

She went everywhere with me.

And she may well have only

been nine,

but she packed a lot in them

nine years.

OLIVIA: No! It's the wrong way.

OLIVIA LAUGHS

We were talking about going to get

her a new uniform for school.

But I didn't get that chance

to go and get her school uniform.

Erm

I can't.

NEWS REPORT: Merseyside Police say

they won't rest

until those responsible for k*lling

Olivia Pratt-Korbel are behind bars.

Olivia's k*ller is still out there,

and that's why Cheryl Korbel has

made this emotional appeal

and she's addressed her daughter's

k*ller directly.

You know you've done wrong,

so you need to own up,

like I've taught my kids.

You do something wrong,

you own up to it.

Good morning, everybody.

Thank you very much for your time

and turning in for us.

This is the m*rder investigation

in relation

to Olivia Pratt-Korbel,

whose photograph, I'm sure,

needs no introduction.

This is the person we are

working for

and why we are here this morning.

NARRATOR: Detectives have made

a breakthrough

in their hunt for the k*ller

of Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

CCTV examination has shown

that on the night in question,

the g*nman has made his way

to the area of Princess Drive.

And we'll just show a very brief

clip of it.

What we know then is

he's contacted two men

who were by the shops.

These men make over to him.

The g*nman can be seen crouching

down between two vehicles

before crossing over Princess Drive.

The males on the bikes come along

here, cross over Princess Drive,

clearly engaged with some sort

of conversation with the g*nman,

and one of them returns in between

the two vehicles,

where he spends about 20 seconds

out of sight, off the bike,

and presumably on his hands

and knees.

He then re-emerges, crosses

over the road,

and cycles down Princess Drive.

We believe he's taken the g*ns that

were used in the m*rder of Olivia,

and moved them from the g*nman on

the area of Princess Drive

and took them to a safe house.

These two weapons are probably

the hottest property

in terms of criminal property

in the UK at this moment in time.

This could be the single largest

influencing factor

in getting a conviction on this job.

Firearms officers are deployed

to raid the cyclist's address

and a neighbouring property

belonging to a criminal associate.

We know from the CCTV that he's had

a conversation with the g*nman,

and we really need to understand

what that's about.

And more importantly, we need to

know who the g*nman is

that he's had a conversation with.

as being recorded,

the interview is being

video recorded,

and is also a live uplink

that may be being monitored.

We are pursuing people to do

something that they've never

probably done before and assist

and talk to the police.

The individual involved has

grown up in the community.

He will understand the impact

this m*rder has had.

He must be tussling.

And a real difficult

dilemma for him,

whether he tells us who it was,

who he's spoken to.

taken something from the g*nman.

You've taken a weapon from him.

She loved life.

She never, never stopped talking.

And that's what I miss the most.

Because I can't hear her talk.

If anyone is hiding these g*ns

..they need to speak up

cos they need to be off

these streets.

No-one, no-one at all should have to

go through this.

I mean, I think it's fair to say,

you know, it's upsetting you.

I know he's entitled to his silence,

We've searched his house.

Sadly, we've not recovered

any firearms.

We're hopeful that the pressure

that we're applying in the community

will encourage other people

to come forward

that do know what's gone on.

a very small group of people,

particularly in the aftermath.

They're the people

we're appealing to.

We recognise that they will be

really scared.

They will perceive,

he's k*lled once,

particularly if they're

We're saying to members

of the community,

this is the death of the

nine-year-old girl.

This is one case in your life

where you need to be able

to look at yourself in the mirror

and say, I've done the right thing.

Police say a young woman

who was shot dead in Liverpool

was the victim of a callous crime.

Ashley Dale was m*rder*d

in her own home.

Police say the attack here

was a targeted sh**ting.

The door was forced here

and several shots were fired.

They're now appealing

for information,

and they're also asking people

to search their conscience.

They say they know sometimes

there's a wall of silence,

sometimes there's a culture of not

grassing to the police,

of not giving police information,

not being a snitch.

But police say people have got

to get beyond that

and search their consciences,

and if they have information,

they must come forward.

Detectives investigating Ashley's

m*rder search for a motive.

They discover messages on her phone

about a dispute

between her boyfriend, Lee, and a

local drug dealer.

Ashley, seemingly, has used

her phone

to text,

voice note,

record images that give us a

sequence of events

that potentially have led to her

death

on the 21st of August.

Right, OK.

So, this is a photo that's

come off Ashley's phone.

That's Lee, isn't it? That's Lee.

Clearly a few years ago.

This is Niall Barry.

Right, OK.

He features heavily

through the phone,

but under the nickname Branch.

And it would seem, at one point,

Branch and Lee have been

best friends.

They've worked together.

Lee and Niall were involved

in drug supply,

but there's some suggestion that

Branch has been ripping Lee off.

OK. Then Niall Barry has ended up

getting robbed.

He's automatically assumed, I think,

that Lee, being his friend,

would side with Niall Barry,

and he hasn't.

So there's this major beef

between Barry and Lee.

It's been reignited because they've

both been at the same festival,

at Glastonbury, June 2022.

We know that Ashley and Lee went.

Ashley talks to a number of friends

about the sort of reignition

of this historic feud.

"Branch is back on his high horse.

"Dunno where he's popped

back up from.

"He was in Glastonbury.

"Pulled a big knife out and said,

'Where's Lee?

"'He's getting stabbed up.'"

Rather than sending messages,

she'll exchange voice notes.

Can I listen to a couple of them?

Just to give me a flavour of what's

on. Yeah, of course.

Wow.

It's weird, that, isn't it,

listening to her?

Yeah.

But her anxieties, from this point,

just escalate and escalate

as we get closer to August.

Branch has been making threats

towards Lee,

saying that he's put money

on his head.

"I can't be arsed with it.

"I don't want to have to go

to Lee's funeral next,

"and I just have a bad,

bad feeling about everything.

"It's horrible. My heart's in

my mouth constantly."

And he consistently features

through this with Lee.

Niall Barry? Niall Barry. Yeah.

He is the primary focus

Yeah, looks that way.

..of all of Ashley's concern. Yeah.

There we are. Niall Barry.

There's extensive amounts of

intelligence around Niall Barry.

Clearly been involved in significant

drug dealing for some time.

There's warning signals

for firearms.

Thought to be carrying a handgun,

regularly keeps it on his person.

There's a number of people

working for him.

2015, there he was associating

with Lee Harrison.

It's running with that narrative

that they used to be associates,

but there's certainly been some

fallout over drug dealing.

Lee continues with, "I don't

know who's responsible.

"I'm not in dispute with anybody."

And I just I find

It's so frustrating to think, you

have been her partner for years

..this has now happened to her,

and yet you are still not

assisting or cooperating.

Why would you do that?

Is it fear? Is there someone still

coming for him?

Does he want to be seen as a grass?

Does he want to be seen

as supporting the police?

Well, that's something morally,

if he doesn't,

he's going to have to live with.

So Niall Barry is a significant

suspect in this inquiry now.

We've got to do everything that we

can to find out where he is.

NEWS REPORT: A funeral took place

today for Ashley Dale

amid calls for those responsible

to give themselves up.

I think in Liverpool we need to

unite now under one voice

and say enough is enough.

The people that we are, the city,

the community,

we don't want it overshadowed by

these shocking stories.

Enough is enough.

I've got so many people around me,

but without her, it's lonely.

It really is, it's lonely.

We spoke every single day

on the phone.

She wasn't only my daughter,

Ashley was my best friend.

It's tough, it really is.

It was about 3.45 in the morning.

We were woke by somebody

knocking on the front door.

I said to Bobby, "It's the police.

I'm scared."

But not for one minute did I think,

like, you know,

what it was going to be.

I think it was the male police

officer said, "She's been shot."

We'll never come to terms with it.

I'll never accept it.

I couldn't believe that.

It's such a shock, I couldn't think.

That doesn't make sense.

Why? Why would you have been shot?

And the first thing I said to them

is, "Where's her boyfriend?"

I think they said they couldn't

locate him at that moment in time.

He made contact with me

after it happened and asked,

could he come and see me?

And my first question was,

"Have you been to the police?"

And he said, "No."

He can't think of anything -

that was his words that he used -

why this had happened, and I had to

go and see him.

So I visited him.

You know, Lee was there,

didn't even get dressed,

sat in his boxer shorts.

Around midday, wasn't it? Yeah.

Didn't even have the decency

to put any clothes on.

Yeah, he maintained his innocence.

He doesn't know anything about it.

He can't think of anything,

why it's happened.

He just shut down with us.

He was just What the police had

said to us he'd been like with them,

he was being much the same

with you and me,

cos we went together.

And the disrespect that that brings,

because he knows full well

who it is.

Why do you think he's not helping?

I honestly don't know.

I mean, this is not our world.

You know, I've never been involved

in anything

where I've needed to be involved

with police

and, you know, to grass or whatever.

But you do hear it so much,

this no grass culture.

But this is serious. It doesn't get

any more serious than this now.

Your girlfriend has been shot dead

in the home that you

shared together,

but you can't speak.

It It's not grassing.

It's telling the truth and doing

the right thing.

There's no comeback for Ashley.

There's no, "Well, it'll be OK with

time and time's a healer."

No, it's definitive. Ashley's gone.

Now, if you loved that person,

you tell the truth.

These people are out there.

You know, we could be walking

around with these people.

You know, it sounds bizarre,

but you could be standing next

to them in the supermarket

and passing them in the street.

My once rational brain is completely

and utterly irrational now.

If a car drives past the house,

I'm on edge.

I'm constantly thinking,

"Are they going to knock?

"Is something going to happen

to us?"

"Or is someone going to burst

through our door?"

I'm scared. I'm scared.

Ashley was an innocent person,

she was at home alone,

and someone has burst

into her house.

Why would they not come

and do something to us?

Police locate and arrest

implausible alibi there,

We just need to look at identifying

those individuals, as well.

We also need to establish if he has

controlled or organised it.

Even though he might not

have pulled the trigger,

if you've planned, arranged it,

facilitated it,

you can be just as culpable.

The k*lling of Olivia Pratt-Korbel

has horrified people

in Liverpool and beyond.

A little girl adored by her family.

This "you can't grass"

culture, thing.

There's a line. There's a line

that's been crossed.

You know, if you've been living

in these areas

that are run by these gangs,

you're terrified.

And I think a lot of the time

it's not so much trust in the

police that is the issue,

it is often you're scared

for yourself.

Police can't be outside your house

protecting you

every minute of every day,

and we know that.

The days pass so, so quick.

Once half two comes, we go and

see Liv,

up in Debbie Bennett's,

where she's resting.

And we call it the baby run

because of the time.

We were so used to Well, I was so

used to doing the school run.

So now it's the baby run.

Yeah.

We go every day, don't we? Yeah.

Spend some time there.

It's just having that connection

that she's still with us.

Yeah, because it was that much

of a shock in losing her.

Erm

And I've been doing the

baby run. It's

..like I've still got

another family.

They need to be taken off

the streets.

NEWS REPORT: Olivia Pratt-Korbel's

coffin was brought past

her primary school to the church

next door,

yards from where the

little girl used to play.

Her community came together

to say goodbye.

CHERYL KORBEL: Liv touched so many

people's hearts

and was loved and adored

by everyone.

She will never be forgotten.

So us and I will never

say goodbye.

But what I will say is goodnight,

love you, see you in the morning.

Where are we going?

So, we're on our way now

to meet somebody

who's contacted the police

via a third party,

saying that they've got

important information

that they want to share

about Olivia's m*rder.

So we're just on the way

now to meet them.

A witness, or do you not

even know that?

They haven't disclosed what it is,

so we actually don't know

what they've got to say.

They didn't want us to go

to the house,

and they've wanted to

meet us somewhere

away from any police station.

At the minute, they're that scared.

Well, they're petrified, really.

Do you believe him?

Yeah.

Did you get the reg of his car?

Yeah.

He was absolutely petrified.

He was crying right the way

through the whole thing.

In short, on the night

of the incident,

he was out, and he said he got a

call from his girlfriend,

who he didn't want to give us the

name of,

saying that the offender had gone

into his girlfriend's house

while he wasn't there and had made

some disclosures

..in short, that he was the sh**ter.

He said his life's in danger

if he's even seen talking

to the police.

He said that he was in the house

for a short time, the sh**ter,

and asked to drop him off

in Aspes Road. Right.

I think he wanted us to go and find

all the evidence and get the CCTV.

And I asked him, like, you know,

what if we don't get the evidence?

And, you know, would you be willing

to come to court?

And to be fair, he said he'd

He said he's petrified and his

life would be in danger

if he did that.

A significant

development overnight.

Well, we've had a man come forward,

clearly with some information

that would assist us.

That's a really, really important

line of inquiry for us

and a breakthrough that we were

hoping for.

But it's very easy to believe

everything that we hear.

For that reason, we need

to check facts,

and that's what we're

currently doing.

We've been given an account,

and we're checking CCTV

to see if we can corroborate exactly

what we've been told.

I think I've got his car.

I've got some CCTV which

corroborates what he's saying.

What's he saying's happened

here, then?

Here, now? So, what he says is that

the g*nman goes back to his address,

makes disclosures about this,

this sh**ting,

and then he's asked to

drop him off.

He says he drops him off

at Aspes Road.

So, 22.46 here.

This is our city watch camera.

Although it's hard to see

at the minute,

that is what I think is his car.

He turns right onto Princess. Yeah.

So this is the church now.

This is St Luke's church.

So you can see, that's a better

image of the vehicle.

This one's a little bit harder

but obviously you can see the

vehicle there has just come in.

And you're saying that at that point

when he's on Aspes,

he's dropping our g*nman off? Yeah.

You know, he's disclosed to him

that he's committed an offence,

and then he's given him

a lift afterwards.

He's assisted an offender.

Detectives receive intelligence

that the man they believe assisted

the g*nman has left Liverpool.

An arrest team is sent to intercept

him and his girlfriend.

The couple are taken to two

separate custody suites

to be interviewed.

There's been a lot

happening overnight.

Now, as soon as she got

into custody,

she asked to see the police

straight away,

said she wanted to speak to us.

She chose not to have legal advice,

despite being repeatedly warned,

given the significant nature.

Just give the conference an overview

in relation to what was said.

Yeah, we look her into the

interview room,

first thing she said was, "I'll tell

you what's happened,

"but, basically, I want protection.

"I'm scared. I'm terrified.

"I'm scared for my life,

my partner's life.

"I'm not going to answer

any questions,

"I'm going to be answering

'No comment'

"unless you can offer me

that protection."

She genuinely She appeared

genuinely, didn't she?

Very emotional. Yeah. And fearful

for her life.

She's basically intimated, "I'm not

speaking to anybody

"or telling anyone what's happened

"unless a boss comes here and tells

me I'm going to be protected."

So I've said, "We're going to have

to go back to our bosses

"and tell, you know, tell

them what you can offer us."

And she said, "Well, I can tell

you who's committed this m*rder."

And her words were,

"What more do you want me to say?

"I know who f*cking done it."

We know she's really, really fearful

and really frightened.

We do empathise.

We understand that they're

in a difficult position.

They're starting to question

the moral obligations,

which is exactly what we want,

and that's what we've appealed

for from day one.

We're not in a position to offer

anybody any deals or anything

like that until we know

the full facts,

and we'll interview her again later.

We really need to nail down exactly

what's happened

in the full sequence of events.

We still don't know who

the g*nman is.

So this could be a really key

day for the investigation.

This interview is being digitally

Detectives interview the couple

of assisting the g*nman on the night

of Olivia's m*rder.

Olivia Pratt-Korbel,

was m*rder*d in her own house.

Just go through, in time order,

what you did exactly on Monday.

MAN: I was in I was in my

girlfriend's house.

My mate rang me and said,

"We're out of electricity."

So, I've gone round,

got the lecky key,

took the dog to the off-licence,

which is on Finch Lane

..got lecky, and seen one of my

mates there.

Then I got a phone call.

Said, "Someone's at ours."

You've been arrested for assisting

an offender.

What can you tell me about that?

So I'm in bed, fast asleep,

and I can just feel myself

getting nudged.

And I thought it was my fella

waking me up.

And the next minute, this person,

he's just gone,

"Don't be telling anyone.

No-one needs to know I'm here."

And I'm half asleep cos

I'm like, "What are you on about?"

Like, "What the f*ck's going on?"

And he's just gone,

"They've been chasing me,"

or, "They're trying to get me."

It was something like that.

And I'm thinking,

is this a f*cking dream?

Like, you're in my room.

So I've got my dressing gown on,

I followed him downstairs,

and that's obviously when I've made

the phone call to my fella

and been like, "Come home."

So I've gone round there

to my girlfriend's.

Go on, then. What's happened

when you've gone round?

I've gone round and

I've been speaking

to that person who was there.

He was telling me he was getting

chased by someone.

Did he say anything else?

Something about someone getting

got shot, or they got shot,

something like that.

He was only in there five

or ten minutes,

then I dropped him off.

And day after, when we found

out, it's gone in the Echo,

with the little girl.

Now, as soon as I seen Kingsheath,

I knew that's where he'd been.

That's where it all came together.

That's where I It all came

together for me,

and I sobbed my heart out.

And we went, "We can't do this.

We've got to go.

"He's going to come and get us."

Not going to lie, we was too scared

to stay in the house.

Not regarding yous, regarding him.

We've wanted this to happen,

not going to lie.

We've wanted yous to do this

because we need to f*cking, you

know, say what we've got to say.

But it's just

I don't know what's going on.

Are you willing to tell us

who that person was?

I'd rather not say in an interview.

Think what You know, ultimately,

the question of the identity

of this person, if you ever talk,

is that, ultimately, we're

dealing with probably

one of the most tragic murders.

I'm terrified of just what he can

do to me.

Has he got a reputation

for k*lling people?

I don't know.

He's got a reputation for something.
