Now can you tell us why we're having class
here at the big oak tree tonight?

Well, Eva, I have a special story
to share with all of you.

And this is the perfect place to read it.

[owlets cheer]

[Ms. Featherbottom] A long time ago,

a group of owls went to find a warm,
comfy place to spend the winter.

The littlest owlet brought
her lucky acorn.

She never went anywhere without it.

The owls stopped in a meadow.

"Where are the trees?"
asked the littlest owlet.

"We need comfy branches to sleep in
and warm leaves for shelter."

The owls agreed that a tree would make
the meadow a much better place to rest.

As the owls slept,

the littlest owlet decided to plant
the acorn she brought from home

so that one day it would grow into a big,
comfy tree with warm, leafy branches.

It was going to be a surprise
for all the other owls.

I love surprises.

Yeah. When you don't know
something great's gonna happen.

And then... surprise!

That's the best.

[both giggle]

[Ms. Featherbottom] When the owls returned
to the meadow the next winter,

the littlest owlet showed them
her big surprise.

- A tree was starting to grow.
- [owlets exclaim]

Each winter, when the owls returned,
the tree was a little bigger.

It grew into a tree
big enough for lots of owls to enjoy.

And not just any tree.

It's the big oak tree!

[owlets cheer]

Right here in the middle of Treetopington.

That's how our town was started.

- Amazing!
- No way!

- Whoa! That's so cool!
- Yeah!

So that's why we had class here today.

Best surprise ever!

How about we celebrate the littlest
owlet's big surprise for everyone

by doing something very special?

- Yes, yes, yes!
- Awesome!

What are we gonna do?

We're going to plant this acorn
in a meadow,

just like the littlest owlet did.

That's a really great idea,
Ms. Featherbottom.

It can grow into a new oak tree.

Bingo!

And then one day, other owls can enjoy
a tree just like ours.

I'm going to need someone

to carry this acorn safely
all the way to its new home.

Let's see.

Who will it be?

- Me, me, me!
- I'll do it!

[imitates fanfare]

- Eva!
- Yes!

I'll take really good care of it,
Ms. Featherbottom.

[owlets cheer]

Diary, I'm so excited.

I can't believe I get to carry the acorn.

the littlest owlet in the story.

[squeals]

Class, as you know, all trees are special.

So, before we leave to plant the acorn,
why don't we all explore a little

and share something we love
about the big oak tree?

[owlets cheer]

I love all these acorns.

There are enough acorns in these branches
to plant a whole forest.

A whole forest?

[owlets exclaim]

[Eva] Diary, I have an idea.

Our class was going to plant
just one acorn, like the littlest owlet.

But I'll pull off
the biggest surprise ever

- and plant a whole forest!
- [speaking indistinctly]

They'll be so impressed.

I just need to get a lot of acorns
without anyone noticing.

Who else wants to share
something they love about this tree?

I love that it's so big!

Let's wrap our wings around it.

[owlets sighing, giggling]

Now to find a whole lot more.

I love the creatures
that live in the tree.

- Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.
- [owlets laughing]

- Go, Jacob!
- [owlets chanting] Go, Jacob!

Do the caterpillar.

I like all the designs on the tree bark.

Round, bumpy, ziggy, zaggy...

I love how the big oak tree is
nice and quiet.

[owlets breathing deeply, sighing]

[breathing, sighing continues]

[Eva screaming]

- [crash]
- [Eva grunts]

[panting]

I like how bendy the branches are.

- Me too!
- Very bendy.

Good observation, Eva.

Okay, owlets.

Time to head off to the meadow
and get planting.

[Lucy] To the meadow!

[straining]

- [groans]

- [gasps]

It's a surprise.

[giggles]

Well, I can't tell you.
Otherwise, it won't be a surprise.

[giggles, hoots]

[shrieks]

[grunts]

We're almost to the meadow.

Ooh, I can't wait
to plant our new oak tree.

[Eva] I see it. I see the meadow.

- [Jacob] There it is!
- [Kiera] I see it too!

[Carlos] Let's go!

[yelps]

[straining]

[sighs]

There's no branches
or shady leaves anywhere.

- A tree is just what this place needs.
- [Eva panting]

I think so too.

Eva, ready with the acorn?

[breathing heavily]

More than you know, Ms. Featherbottom.

Excellent.

Now, let's find a spot to plant it.

The spot should have soft dirt
for digging.

Hmm. That's a little firm.
Let's look somewhere else.

[owlets cheer]

The coast is clear.
Time to plant a forest.

[panting]

[Sue] So excited!

[Ms. Featherbottom, owlets chattering]

[Eva grunts]

[straining]
This is much harder than I thought.

What you doing back there?

Getting ready for the surprise!

[Lucy hoots]

That means something great's gonna happen.

But wait.

It'll only be a surprise
if I don't know what it is.

[gasps] Okay, I'm going.

[grunting]

Blech.

[grunting continues]

[sighs]

How am I going to plant a whole forest
if I can't even plant one acorn?

[Sue] Hey, everybody!

Look at this spot.
It's got plenty of soft dirt.

- [Jacob] Good find, Sue.
- So soft.

Very nice.

Now for the super fun part.

Let's dig!

[owlets cheer]

- Oh, no. I'm running out of time!
- [Kiera] Dig, dig, dig.

[Sue] We're doing it!

[straining] The dirt's so hard.

There. Now all we need is the acorn.

- Eva?
- [Eva gasps]

Where'd she go?

[strains] Come on. Come on.

[owlets] Yoo-hoo! Eva!

[whimpering]

[strains] Come on, dirt.

- [shrieks]
- Huh?

- Eva, are you back there?
- [gasps]

Uh, don't come back here.

Why not?

Because they'll see
my big surprise forest!

Oops.

- Surprise forest?
- [owlets exclaim]

So that's the surprise.

It was going to be.

I wanted to plant a whole oak tree forest
and surprise everybody,

just like the littlest owlet in the story.

Whoa, just imagine.
Big oak trees all over the meadow.

Think of all the comfy branches
and warm leaves.

And all of those owls
that could live there.

And all the acorns!

But it's not a surprise anymore.

It doesn't matter
whether or not it's a surprise.

It sure doesn't.

Just think
what the littlest owlet would say

if she knew she inspired you
to do something so big!

I'm not sure what, exactly, uh,

but maybe something like...

- [cheering, laughing]
- [owlets giggle]

and enjoy this forest.

It'll take some time
before they're as big as the big oak tree.

But it'll be so worth the wait.
