that Lee was spending the church's money.

He used to spend millions on gambling.

He went to Las Vegas.

from the church members' donations.

Why would I go to Las Vegas?

I couldn't take a break or go on vacation.

How pathetic is it for me
to just sit in front of that machine?

was important to highlight

was the many female followers
who had been sexually abused and harassed.

We met with three or four of the victims.

We asked them where it had happened.

There was a place called "Epang Palace."

The members referred to it as "Heaven."

He called it the Garden of Eden.

That in the beginning of time,
people walked around naked unashamedly.

and it wasn't evil or sinful.

He'd casually start teaching us things
like kissing, or touching our breasts.

He did everything himself.

After that, he started
touching his genitals,

and then he said we should all try it too.

We tried to meet with Pastor Lee
to hear his side of the story.

We tried several times to talk to him.

We even went to his house.

his whole year scheduled.

Actually, his next two years are full.

because he was involved.

Even if that was true,
we need more time for this.

[man] I think we gave you enough time.

I mean, even another week or a whole month
wouldn't be enough time.

They suddenly pulled out cameras
and started filming us too.

Honestly, their equipment
was even better than ours.

They started interviewing us,

and they said they would report us.

We received complaint calls
throughout the whole month

because of
the Manmin Central Church story.

We got so many calls,
we could barely get any work done.

They were threatening our families,
and were trying to intimidate us.

They would say things like,
"Your husband is defaming my church,

and you'll receive
the Lord's punishment for that."

The media and TV broadcast stations

are all reporting on us.

What in the world is going on?

This was during their two-week
revival gathering.

Because of that, the church was full,
even though it was a Tuesday.

They said MBC was reporting
on Manmin Church.

But those were false reports.

They said they should be protesting,

and that there were church vehicles
outside and they should get in them.

People piled onto the buses.
A lot of people decided to go.

[Seong-kwang] The broadcast started at 11,

and I think the tape was ready
around 10:40.

So I was very anxious,
because I got the tape around 10:45,

and handed it to the control room
around 10:50.

When I got there, I saw a lot of people
starting to gather outside the building.

They parked five to six buses
in front of the building.

Then they got off the buses
and stormed inside.

They entered the building
with some church employees.

and the program started.

I heard people yelling.
We were on the fourth floor at the time.

I heard this really loud yelling
coming from the hallway.

I stood still because
I didn't know what was going on.

All of a sudden,
strange men stormed into the office.

They shouted my name and the names
of the other producers,

and they were yelling, "Get them!"

That's when I got a call from my wife.

She said she had been getting
threatening calls all morning,

which, of course, she'd gotten before.

She was scared.

Back then my daughter was in kindergarten,
and they were threatening her too.

My wife asked me to come home
if I was done with work.

I took the elevator to the first floor,
and it was full of people.

[chanting loudly]

Honestly, I thought I might be k*lled
if I got caught by the followers.

They were so wound up.

[Seong-kwang] They shouted my name,
and the names of the other producers.

And I think they even had pictures.

I heard them looking for people. So I hid.

It was terrifying.

I thought, "What on Earth is going on?"

- MBC!
- [crowd] MBC!

- Must respect!
- Must respect!

- Our people!
- People!

[man] They said we were the Devil
because we slandered their pastor.

I was really worried for my safety,
and the crew members who were still there.

They said, "You're Producer Yoon,
you're an evil b*stard."

They took me by the neck
because the show was being aired.

They yelled, "Stop the broadcast.
Where's the tape?"

And then they ran to the control room.

They said, "The broadcast comes from
the control room on the second floor."

"We need to stop it."
That's very specific and technical.

It was clear they were.well-prepared.

They planned everything
and stormed in as a group.

[Seong-kwang] The control room is like
a national security facility,

with multiple security measures.

Someone inside has to verify the person
and open the door for them.

So I don't understand
how they broke through the door.

They managed to break
into the control room,

and snatched the tape
that was airing out of the deck.

It was as if they were military.

There were so many of them,
and they stopped the broadcast.

[man] You can't touch that!
Be quiet, seriously!

[Sang-il] We ended up in a fist fight
with the church members.

And that's when the zebras appeared
on the screen.

[man] Do it! I said turn it off!

How pathetic is it for me

would pressed the button to stop it,

That's how the broadcast was ruined.

Manmin Church showed everybody

why everyone out there, not only us,

considered them a sect
and a false religious organization.

[Un-chul] Lee Jae-rock was born in 1943.

He was the youngest of three boys
and three girls, in Muan, Jeollanam-do.

It was a small house with a thatched roof.

They lived in that house over there.

I heard he was a very smart kid.

[Jae-rock] It was heartbreaking for me

that there were so many believers,

and now they've scattered
to escape persecution.

It looked like the church, and
the body of Christ, had been destroyed.

For our members, Muan Manmin Church
is considered a sacred place.

That's why a lot of members
come every year.

I would say
it's kind of like a pilgrimage.

After he graduated from high school,
he completed his military service.

Then he met and married his current wife.

They had three daughters.

He was living an ordinary life.

Then one day, he got very sick.

He had all these different
kinds of diseases.

He was basically like a walking plague.

He suffered unspeakable pain
for seven years,

until he attended a house of prayer
with one of his relatives.

There, he experienced
"the laying on of hands."

Apparently, he was cured after that.

But the curious thing is...

...he said he heard the voice of the Lord.

It's all in his autobiography.

"In 1975..."

"I went to a house of prayer on
Chilbosan, Suwon, early in the morning."

"I laid down a blanket
and prayed on my knees."

"That's when I first heard
the voice of God."

He established Manmin Church in 1982.

And it was about that time when
he started to refer to himself as God.

In the beginning, Manmin Church
wasn't very popular.

But after a while...

...he started these yearly "healing rallies"
during the second week of May

that were intended
to cure people of their illnesses.

When my older sister was born,
my mother was in a coma,

and my sister was put in a incubator
because she was very sick.

By some miracle,
my mother got better,

and my sister also became healthier.

There was a man who fell
from a fifth floor.

He broke his ribs,
and he was taken in an ambulance.

Jae-rock said "Let there be light,"

He laid his hands on that man,
praying for his suffering to end.

That man got on his feet
and started jumping.

who couldn't walk take their first steps.

A person in a wheelchair was healed.

Patients, who were told
they had stage-three lung or liver cancer...

The people possessed by ghosts

He showed me the hand of God.

His fingers are very thick,

and his hands are big.

I saw Pastor Lee's hands earlier,
and they look just like God's.
