with sparks, and the trucks,

and the people that we see.

So, I'm buying these
decommissioned government vehicles...

to help reimagine them
to serve this community, again,

just in a different way.

Hold on, hold on, hold on.
Back up, back up for a second.

Explain how we got here.
Start at the beginning.

Yeah? Okay, the beginning.

Since I was a kid,

I've always loved to build.

Whether it was forts, bikes, go-karts,

I just loved to create.

As I got older,

my passion for building
turned into huge vehicles.

Ah! This is amazing! Look at this thing!

I got a lot of them.

Fire trucks, city buses, semi-trailers.

Which ones are his?

They're all his.

He'd said he bought two.

I saw really good machines
being discarded, sold off

when I knew they still had a lot of life.

But I knew they
could serve a higher purpose.

{\an8}I decided to reimagine, repurpose,
and renovate these vehicles.

Out here in the fields

I wanted to turn these vehicles
into something incredible.

I fight for my meals

And I wanted to do it for communities...

There you go.

- ...and for kids all over the world.

Let's show Hawkeye how we play soccer.

So, I teamed up

with four organizations
that help kids in need.

Based in four different communities

spread across the planet.

So, for each community,
I rebuilt an old vehicle

and gave it a new purpose

to help each organization
fulfill their mission.

We're gonna change this truck
into a water filtration truck.

{\an8}A mobile dance studio.

A music studio bus.

A mobile rec center.

Then I gave them the reimagined vehicles.

Yes. Yes, yes, I love that.

I was...

- What?
- ...still talking.

I also brought along some talented

{\an8}and familiar friends
to help me deliver them.

To do the work,
I assembled a rock-star team of builders.

How long do we have to build this one,
Jeremy?

Yeah, we got two or three weeks
on this one.

And finally, I needed a co-pilot
on this global journey

and there's where Rory comes in.

Yes, it's about time.

and handsome in the dark. All right.

I did musical theater first
at the Modesto Junior College.

My first play was that Wizard of Oz,
was a show.

I remember all the joy.

The friendships...

that's where I discovered, uh...

all that wonderment.

I discovered all that wonderment there.

We went around to every school
and we got to perform for kids.

That was my motivator.

This is where I have to think about
as I'm saying it, where...

It circles to, like,
maybe why I'm doing this, you know.

To my love for kids, and my...

How I'm inspired by them,
and how I am one of them.

How I play make-believe for a living,
you know.

But to... I mean,
I'd do anything for a child.

It opened up a whole journey
to do this show

and a blessing to be able to do this.

I hope this inspires others...

and demonstrates

how much fun and how easy it is

to make a giant difference
in other people's lives.

Have a look at these vehicles.

Two hundred and thirty-seven, to be exact.

Tour buses,

city buses, fire trucks,

just waiting to be repurposed,

reimagined, and renovated,
to serve communities in a new way.

Yeah. Some might need some work...

but all I see is potential.

So, I picked one
for an incredible children's home

in Los Cabos, Mexico,

that just lost their dance program.

And we rebuilt it
into a mobile dance classroom.

Sounds a little ambitious, I get that.

But I knew the perfect vehicle.

A 45-foot New Flyer Low Floor city bus.

Okay, let's back up
to the start of the build.

I'm thinking a golf cart.

Something a little...
something a little smaller.

All right.

Oh, he's coming in hot.

That does not sound like a golf cart.

Oh! It's a city bus! Yes!

Yeah!

There you go. A little wider.

{\an8}Rory is a wonderful wingman.
Because of his unrelenting enthusiasm.

That's cool, man.

Oh, low rider!

And what he lacks in knowledge,
he makes up for in confidence.

What's the max speed
of something like this?

- About 55.
- Yeah.

You see what I'm talking about?

I love buses.
I mean, they're part of the infrastructure

of every city that's born,
but they're always buses.

Who would think of converting a city bus
into a dance studio?

That is something very unexpected.

Oh, man.

{\an8}Now, Bender's the opposite
of Rory. He's got a ton of skill.

{\an8}If there's anyone with the chops

to transform the city bus
into a dance studio, it is him.

He knows exactly
what he's looking at here.

City buses are strictly made
for hauling people. There's no comfort.

The front-end steers,

the back end's the power
and everything else

is just a blank shoebox.

And aesthetically, this thing was...
It was an eyesore.

I knew it was gonna be a struggle.

- I love these buses.
- Wow!

Look at all the space.

This is 40-feet long, eight-feet wide.

- Yeah.
- So, the opportunity and potential

that can happen with these buses
in particular are immense.

- This is in beautiful shape.
- Yeah.

We'll get those seats pulled out,

we'll get the rails pulled out,
and then we'll have our blank canvas.

I think we've all determined
that I should just be supervising.

Oh, my goodness.

I feel like a pole vaulter. All right.

So, what were you doing in the Army?

I hunted down t*rror1st cell leaders,

- and I jumped out of planes.
- Wow!

{\an8}My dad served in the Army.
My grandfather served in the Navy.

I pretty much had great uncles
in every branch of the military.

I'm also a third-generation paratrooper.

One thing I learned in the Army
was adapt and overcome.

I came here as a welder and fabricator,

but I've learned to do carpentry
and electrical, and I love it.

These are a lot heavier
than the other seats.

...I'm serious. You try carrying these.

Okay, so manual labor isn't his strength.

I'm done, man.

The guy has other skills.

You're doing a great job. Keep that up.

Seriously, I need lunch.

Let's help you understand
why we built a dance studio in a city bus.

This all started
when a friend introduced me

to an incredible organization
called Casa Hogar.

It helps children in need.

So, I flew south
to see if there's some way I could help.

Casa Hogar. Look at the view.

Casa Hogar or Ogar?

Yeah, the H is silent. It's in Spanish.

- They're fixing my hairdo now.
- Oh, yeah.

All right, kids.

Jayson, why don't you give us
a little kind of rundown

of what you got going on here.

{\an8}Casa Hogar is currently
for 32 amazing kids.

{\an8}- Ooh.
- The ages range

{\an8}from eight to 17 years old.

They can't live with their parents
just due to challenging home realities.

- Right. Okay.
- So, the kids will stay with us

until a suitable family
reintegration situation is sorted out.

We really want to be
a safe element for the kids

where they can trust us
and help them realize that

- they're not alone.
- Who finances all of this?

- We operate with zero government funding.
- Wow.

So, all of the funds that are required
to operate this home for the past 14 years

have been raised
through private donations.

That's amazing.

We operate with a healthy,
activity schedule,

- sports, arts, recreation.
- And I love all this.

- I think is beautiful and amazing.
- Yeah.

And, a thing pops into my brain about,
like, some of the unique challenges

or even limitations that you may have.

I think there might be something
that you might need

in your facility
that maybe we can help with.

And I'm excited to figure out
what that is.

But before we get into that,
I really want to go see

- a little bit more of the activities.
- Yeah.

Even some of the things
you were talking about off-campus.

- I'd love to do that.
- Okay.

I love this Volkswagen thing.

I haven't seen one of these
since I was a young kid.

I like all the handprints and stuff on it.

It's cool. I love the colors,
it's colorful.

Yeah, agreed.

- So, this is our old dance school.
- Oh, wow!

And unfortunately, recently had to close.

Wow.

- All right.
- Studio Fama.

Let's go inside.

Woah! Holy-moley.

This is the original dance studio.

- Wow.
- You can see up top here,

it's missing a portion of the roof.
That roof got blown off.

It was a big hurricane here in Cabo.

The owners of this space

just didn't have the funding
to bring it back

- into its previous glory.
- Yeah.

Our girls in particular
felt a great deal of pride

involved in these dance classes.

Actually, they were preparing
a dance recital,

bit of a local fundraising event.

It's a shame
that that wasn't able to continue.

And this was the only place you had
that you could dance?

- That's correct.
- Yeah.

Boy, they must miss this enormously.

- I can tell your brain's already turning.
- Yeah.

Casa Hogar needed a new dance studio.

But how could we plus this up?

The dance floor had to be big.

With a pro music system to match.

And a light show for special events.

The teacher and kids also needed a place
to store their things.

Finally, we wanted it all to fit
inside of a bus that can drive to town

for fundraising events.

I knew the build
was going to be incredible,

but I wanted the delivery of it
to be a special event for the kids.

What if we got a kick-a*s Latin star
to create a spotlight

- on what Casa Hogar has been doing...
- Yeah, yeah.

- ...so successfully for so long. Right?
- Yeah.

- I love it.
- So, I'm thinking this guy,

Sebastian Yatra.

I really know him
because he performed on a song in Encanto.

Our kids are gonna be embarrassed.

because I have a nine-year old daughter.

I'm so, so stoked for you.

pretty quick too.

And it got me thinking,
it would be really awesome

if you can come join me
to create some attention

for this really great children's home

- called Casa Hogar.

What we're doing is
building a dance studio in this bus.

to people doing wonderful things for kids.

and it's in Mexico, Cabo.

And, you being so wonderfully famous
in the Latin culture,

So, what we have is Casa Hogar,

- a pretty amazing special place.
- Yeah.

It is safe housing for children.

And they had a little dance studio.
And it was off campus,

so they're also involved in the community.

But it got shut down
and it just, kind of, went away.

So, my idea

is... this.

A mobile dance studio for these kids.

There's no YouTube video or manual
or instructions how to build this thing.

Okay, first things first.

The bus needs a dance floor.

A big one.

Every dance floor needs a DJ area
to play the music.

It's also a classroom,

so it needs an area for the teacher,

lockers for the students,
and a changing room.

Finally, Casa Hogar is planning to use it
for fundraising events.

So, let's include a full lighting setup.

Maybe a truss in the front of the stage.

And here's the kicker.

All the gear
needs to pack up inside the bus,

so we can drive around town to events.

I know, design looks impossible.
But Bender's gonna build it anyway.

I know this might be a little trickier.

We're trying and I'm sorry.

I wouldn't want to be you, dude.

But, initial thoughts?

Initial thought is...

there's a hole in the side of the bus!

That's a nice way of saying,
"You're crazy, Renner."

Growing up, we were pretty poor,
so we rode the city bus a lot.

And never in my wildest dreams

would I ever thought
that I would be talking to Jeremy

about cutting a hole inside of a bus.

How long do I have on this, Jeremy?

I'm really hoping for, like,
two, three weeks.

- Two, three weeks?
- Yeah.

- Oh, my God.
- Yeah! Come on!

- Come on! It's tons of time!
- Y'all can do it!

- Yeah, there's a... It's a hole.
- Yeah.

You know how good this is gonna feel
when you can actually get it done?

It'll feel so good.

All right, guys. Wait till you see
what Jeremy wants to do with this bus.

I keep brushing over this big hole
in the side of the bus.

So, AK, Justin, Ski, and me

are gonna make
this a fold-down dance floor,

we're gonna need some kind of system

to pull this thing up and down,
possibly winches.

{\an8}So, is the front side of this door,
is it going to fold in

{\an8}- and then everything folds up?
- Yeah. That way,

when it's all the way collapsed,

- everything is inside the bus.
- Okay.

So, all the truss system,
everything will be stored on the floor,

but the most important thing is
that we make the dance floor safe.

Justin and Ski,
you guys come up with some kind of plan

to have a DJ booth.

Merri, Ryan, and Roxy,

there's two changing rooms in the back,
and the desk work area.

I think that covers it.

Go, team.

I've been asked to do quite a few projects
over the years.

This project is going
to hold a special place.

Growing up, it's always been a struggle.

I was... ...broke,
so I would build all of my own stuff

and always building bicycles
or something like that for friends

just enough to get some money together.

And if you wanted something,
you had to work for it.

For some of these kids,

not unlike myself, they don't have
those role models, or those...

those people to look up to.

So, if I can use my talents
to build a team

that's gonna build a tangible thing
that can draw not only these kids

but adults together,

I don't know if there's any better use
of whatever talents I do possess.

We're cutting open half this bus,
like a can opener,

having it fold out into a stage.

The biggest challenge for us
is to figure out how to make that happen.

What do we have to do first

so we know that everything's safe
and we're rocking here?

The first thing we're gonna do,

we're gonna cut a square section out here

and make sure we're not cutting
into any hydraulic and power lines.

And we'll pry that back.
Take a look inside

and make sure
we're not cutting anything crucial.

I think there's still a question
here as to who's gonna cut this out.

It looks... Like, how hard can this be?

with the power tool,

I made sure I had on eye protection

and maybe had a few feet of distance
because it's a little scary.

{\an8}My father was into mechanics,
my mother was a sales rep.

You know, we're a lot alike,

but I definitely take after my father
because I like to build things

and fell in love with wrenching.
So, it's kind of where I landed.

I just want to be a person
who's great at what I do.

Merri is a fun, energetic woman.

She's a talented fabricator.

And she gets the job done.
And I respect that.

What do you think we could do

Yeah, well, I found...

There's this thing
called the thing at Casa Hogar,

which is a Volkswagen.
Remember those things?

They have it all painted white,

but they have the logo on it.

But then, what I thought was really cool
is they had these little handprints.

- Colorful handprints all over it.
- Oh, yeah, yeah.

So, we can have all the pop
of color, maybe up on this ridge here.

- That's a great idea.
- So, have all these beautiful

little handprints
all the way around the thing.

Ties into their thing
and it becomes a real good...

- I love it, it's so cool.
- ...it's a real nice brand for them

- and it ties into what they already have.
- Yeah, that'll be cool.

We had to frame out the entire dance floor
with aluminum tubing.

You know, we might be able to get away
with two of these in here

- instead of three.
- If we have 30 people,




The stage had to be as light
as we could make it.

We couldn't have something where the bus
just flops over when we open it up.

It also had to be strong enough,
so that it's not going to hurt anybody

when kids and adults are jumping up
and down.

Grounded.

That right there.

Guess we're gonna find out
what these walls are made of.

Hopefully that wall doesn't come this way.

All right, hook it up.

A double-folding dance floor,

really easy to say,
but now weight becomes an issue.

We're doing something
that's never been done before.

You're having to lift this thing
and move it in and out.

So, I wasn't sure how this was gonna work.

Watch your face.

The wall of the bus has to be
strong enough

to actually lift this stage up.

That's why we're doing tests.

then we'll have Bender ride it.

- I start when I was nine years old.

- I like to dance, salsa, merengue.

- What do the kids like? The most?

The kids like hip-hop.

Okay.

Yeah. I had the opportunity
to teach to the Casa Hogar kids.

That was an amazing experience.

Can you teach old people
how to dance like...

Of course, I can do it.

I need help with my hip-hop.
I need... I wanna learn.

Yeah, you can. Yeah, yeah,
you need help with your hip.

But you can't hop.

That was actually pretty good.
I'm gonna have to let you have that one.

Dance is where I found a home.

Where I could be myself.

Where I could climb,
where I could be free.

I wanted to give that to the children.

That's my main motivation,
to open my school.

I come from a little bit
of musical theatre background,

that's how I started as an actor.

My first job ever was the Scarecrow
in The Wizard of Oz.

That's when I fell in love with acting

but also, just the dancing part,
the singing part.

And what I really loved about all of it

- is the bond...
- Yeah.

...that you have
with everybody in the show.

- It's pretty awesome.
- I'd love to see photos

of him as the Scarecrow.
That's what I wanna see.

When I made the musicals
and something like that,

it's like a great experience for them.

- Yeah.
- I think they never forget that.

- You know?

in this dance program,
we'll get it done somehow, someway.

As a fabricator, making this dance floor
has been a huge challenge.

I didn't wanna let the team down
and that added a lot of pressure.

So, AK and I, we talked about it over,
and over, and over again,

and upgrade the winch
just for a safety factor.

Seriously, be careful.

That was probably
one of the biggest issues

was just weight, simplicity,
and then have it enough structure

that the bus doesn't fall apart.

I was so nervous this wasn't gonna work,
there was a lot of tension.

- So, lockers.
- How heavy are these?

I can get it in there. Hold on.

Nope, all right.
So, this one's gonna stay here.

We went out and picked up

some used lockers
from schools in the community.

All these kids,
they're probably gonna work up a sweat.

So, you're gonna bring extra clothes,

and that way things
are just securely stored,

when all these little kids are partying.

We'll have to cut them
around this wheel well.

- Okay.
- Or just use the uncut door.

- Might look cool.
- Yeah.

We can cut the back of them out.

{\an8}The back of the locker for that.

Yes, it's not difficult.

What Jeremy asked us to do
has never been done before.

Everybody on the team has to be able
to wear several different hats.

You know, as long as I can convey
the vision to them,

I can let them do what they do.

Feeling pretty confident.

You know, I was looking at the plans
and I had this thought.

If the dance floor is there,

you know, maybe this comes out
as more of an L-Shape.

So, it's... We have still a path here
that somebody can actually see

what's happening here.
But this cabinet is all set up

for all the tech.
So, we just transfer things.

You can see it's coming right above
and can go overhead

and the DJ booth is down here.

and it's kind of like
a Burning Man build where...

it's like a mobile party, really.

building off-road race cars

and industrial equipment.

come out the side.

This is definitely a new one.

I came here by transfer from La Paz

due to neglect of my mom's care.

We take a project that should take a year
and we condense it down into a few weeks.

where no matter what I need,

I point at it and go, "Nick,"
and he goes, "Yep, on it,"

and it's done and it's done perfectly.

You can tell when Bender gets frustrated
just by his body language.

He gets a little stiff
and he starts to grab his beard.

You always gotta just pull him out of that
by just joking around with him.

At least you can still weld,
because your looks've gone downhill.

I made it so all the lockers were usable,
had to cut over them.

Hey!

- Beautiful.
- I'm not a carpenter.

I have never done so much carpentry work
in my life.

It's not metal though, we can't melt...
We can't cut it, melt it,

and stick it back together.

There's no gluing back together, though.

I can't get over
how much woodworking we did.

I mean, if you cut a piece of metal wrong,
you weld it back together and it's fine.

So, it was a little bit
of a learning curve.

But we were trusted that,
even if we hadn't done something before,

we're gonna get it done right
and figure it out.

Merri and I mounted the lockers
for the back.

And it's really coming together.

Oh, then it slides.
You see that slide at the end?

It's a lot of work.
But we're getting there.

Yeah.

Pretty sweet.

It's like we know what we're doing
or something.

I've had all kinds of different jobs

and I have not met a group
that worked this as well together

in anywhere, any state, any time. Nowhere.

what is extraordinary is this.

This stage is solid,

the light bars here look like
I'm at some Coachella concert.

- than what I was imagining.

I'm just shaking my head, going,

"Wow. How on earth did you create that
out of a city bus?"

And I think everybody senses

how truly special this project is.

This city bus
is kind of a wonder to behold,

to see this thing with the lights,
and the music, and the smoke.

It takes a life of its own

and it is bigger and better
than I ever thought possible.

I tend to gravitate towards this bus.

I didn't realize how much so,
but as this bus progressed,

it became one of the most rewarding things
I've ever done.

The sweetest things that I feel

Why can't this sweet loosin' become real?

I think it's that connection
that I have with these kids.

I had a rough childhood.

I was seven and Dad went to jail.

And I was in temporary foster homes
for a number of years.

Much like the kids are down there.

So, had this idea
when we did that w*r room thing,

- you liked how all that handprint thing...
- Yeah.

...was on the Volkswagen thing,

- so we kind of mixed it up a little bit.

who built this thing.

- The whole production. We actually...
- Yeah. I love it.

- Yeah.
- ...hand in it

- and has a hand on it.
- That's right, love it.

- Right hand.
- I'm left-handed.

Yeah, but you're the boss,
so, you can do whatever you want, but.

- Just a little bit lower.

And then plant it. Don't squish it around.

- And push your fingers in there.

- Beautiful.

I really love it.

It's a nice finishing touch
here on this, huh?

When you first came and said,
"Hey, I wanna cut

"a hole in the side of the bus."

- I didn't...
- "You're crazy."

- You wanna cut a what in a what?
- Yeah.

And I didn't quite buy on to it
and I lost some sleep.

But being that those kids
are in that temporary

kind of foster home situation,
the same thing that I was in.

- Yeah.
- And I was just tossed around

from school to school, and house to house.

You didn't really fit in anywhere.
So, it's best just to kind of blend in...

- Yeah.
- ...and not be seen.

- Yeah.
- When that's exactly the opposite thing

that should happen.

As you're telling that story, brother,
it's like, it makes me think about...

Now, I'm thinking about
I went to a different school every year.

From... Since from kindergarten
and all the way up to high school.

So, yeah, I was always kind of quiet,
I'd either blend in or...

- Yeah.
- ...just kind of be an observer, you know?

But I still had wonderful blessings

of my parents, it's... They're around.

I liked the idea of the kids, like,

this is gonna make them like a superstar, right?

Instead of like the outcasts,
they'll be the ones.

- Yeah, yeah.
- Be the guys.

get the resources it needs

A rolling dance school. It's impressive.

And then there's changing room,
where kids can, you know,

have all their lockers and storage.

If you have like, you know, a computer,
or you have to do stuff.

This is like, your kind of area.

everybody put their hands on.

This build was really special.
When I was in foster care,

I would just go from temporary home
to temporary home,

and as weird as it may sound,
I was super excited

when one of the local churches
brought us new clothes.

The gift of love like that is amazing.
To see these kids get this dance floor

and this whole bus
was really close to home

and this was the payoff of a life time.
It's amazing.
