for the last spot in the semi-finals.

It has given me an opportunity
to play, to learn.

I had amazing dancers
that were very skilled every single week.

The stage was amazing.

The choreographers are my friends now,
so I'm coming out a winner regardless.

I'm trying not to get emotional,

but seeing these faces
stand behind and believe in me

has really pushed me to believe in myself.

- It went by really fast,

- but it was slow in the beginning.

Last performance felt like
it didn't even happen.

You don't have time to sit in it

because you're already like,
"Okay, next thing."

I feel everyone brings something
so different each week.

I'm hoping for '90s, early 2000s.

I don't even know
what moves they did in the '60s.

[Keenan screams]

Maybe some chest hairs.
Can wardrobe do that?

Oh, my God. Okay! I'm ready!

Was it like this? Were they giving this?

Well, Dance 100. It's been fun.

This is the Dance 100 semi-finals!

[audience cheering]

Shout-out to our Dance 100.

[all cheering]

This time, the remaining
four choreographers must create

not one, but two original pieces

in order to get one step closer
to that $100,000 prize.

As ever, the numbers keep getting bigger

as each choreographer will be competing
with 25 of the Dance 100.

So we have two pieces,
two unique challenges.

For the decades challenge,

they must dance to a track
through the decades

from a randomly selected era.

The other part is the narrative challenge.

Each choreographer was assigned
a short story earlier in the week

and their challenge
was to interpret the story in,

yes, you've guessed it, dance.

[audience cheering]

Now my friends, there's only one question
left to be asked.

Are you ready to get this party started?

[audience cheering]

Well, then, it's time to throw it back.

So grab your afros and bell-bottoms
as we're headed to the '70s.

We are starting with the '70s! Let's go!

[all shouting] Yeah!

So I know two things about the '70s,

that my mother was born in the '70s
and that was a long time ago. [Laughs]

- Hey, Mother!
- Hi, son, how are you?

I am surviving. [Laughs]

And I'm so proud of you.
Love you and we miss you so much!


Me and my mom are super close.

We talk almost every day.

She's super-supportive
and she loves that I dance.

She's just always been that support system
that every person needs in their life.

I'm just trying to stay focused.

I have a new group of dancers.
It's a lot of pressure. It's getting hard.

We've been through some storms

and you made it through, you got this.
Keep k*lling it!

I miss my mom!

Semifinals. Big deal.

[all cheering]

My biggest challenge
is working with more dancers.

We need time to warm up to each other
and be able to dance together,

so it kind of makes my job
ten times harder to do.

This is the semi-finals,

so I wanted the '70s piece
to be a little difficult.

Tempo goes really fast,
then we have some popping.

We have fast little jazz moments.

It has to be clean.

We have to transform
the people to the '70s, yeah?

♪ Yo, show up, show up ♪

[Keenan] Five, six, seven. Stop!

There's a lot of good energy
with this routine.

I created my own version of a lounge.

The '70s was all about vibing,
disco ba*ls, feathers, gold, good times.

- Let's get on the line.
- [dancer] Yeah.

Yeah. Just so that's clean.

Okay. We need to get lighter!

{\an8}Super tight and right.

- Do you know what the dancers call me?
- What?

- Kleenan!
- Kleenan?

What makes this decades piece
so difficult is it's very energetic,

so you have to have
the highest level of stamina ever.

My dancers have to bring it
with the energy this performance.

You know this is the performance
going to get me into finals.

Now, Keenan, the facts are this.

You were born in the '90s.
This was a '70s piece.

How did you tackle it?

My mama was born in the '70s,
so I had to do it justice!

[all laughing]

For me, it's always about bringing
the audience, bringing the viewer in.

Everyone should feel like a part of this,
whether it's a party or a love story.

I want everyone to be like, "Damn,
I want to be a part of that too."

And then from there, I create
the choreography, the sections and things.

But the vibe is the most important

because I want you to walk away like,
"I wanna be a part of that."

And if I can do that, I've done my job.

- [Ally] Well, you did that!
- [cheering]

Now we gotta send it up to the Dance 100.
Brooke, do you know about the '70s?

{\an8}Well, I was born in 2000,
so I'm gonna say, no.

I don't know anything about the '70s.

But if this is what it is,
I'm here for it.

I feel like this is
a really different vibe for you,

and just everyone everywhere
was really cool.

Okay, so Nicole, were you feeling
the heat of Keenan's "Disco Inferno"

or did it leave you cold?

how much it is to get into your club,

'cause I want to dance all night.
It looks so fun!

Watching anybody individually,
you all seemed to be having a good time.

I'm gonna say, Kleenan,

that I think having it a bit more rugged
would have gone in your favor.

You know how the '70s was.
Drugs, sex and all the good stuff.

- So…
- [audience exclaiming]

I wanted to…

'Cause I was there.
Obviously, I was there.

[all laughing]

So I would have loved it
to be a little bit more, you know?

{\an8}I do see what they're saying,
but personally as a choreographer,

{\an8}I do like cleanliness
and dancers that are able to be clean,

but have their own flavor
and I think they ex*cuted that.

I agree that they were clean,
but still gave that feel.

Flavor. Yeah.

I feel amazing. I feel great.

The performance went well,
the energy was there.

The comments were great.

The worst comment is, "It should
have been sloppier." I'll take that.

And I feel like sometimes
people just have to say something,

so you can't be perfect all the time,
even though we are! [Laughs]

It's not just the number
of routines going up,

it's the number of dancers too.

And with a $100,000 on the line,
every move matters.

It's time for our next choreographer.
It's Max!

{\an8}The decade that
we have this week is 1980s.

[dancers whooping]

The '80s was about
how people carried themselves.


You'd look nice, you got jewelry on.

So in that sense, it's much more simple.

Boom, tap, boom.

You just groove,
and don't do anything intense.

I just hope that the simplicity reads

and people can feel the essence
of the movement that we're doing,

which I believe that people will.

It's a bit overwhelming
because it's basically one on 25 dancers.

Six and seven. Little bit quicker.
Emily, just a little bit quicker.

I love Max, I like working with him,
but I feel kind of chilled a bit.

That's an A5 star song that he was given.
Every choreographer would die for that.

I think he's playing it really safe
and it feels very the same.

- The choreo is very, like, relaxed.
- [Max] Mmm-hmm.

So more performance...

- More urgency in the back. 100%.
- And more performance from the dancers.

The biggest thing is just character,

especially the partner moments,
the couple stuff.

We want it to feel authentic.

How did that track fit for you?

It felt so good. Fit like a glove.
We had to do it the right way.

What way was that?

Now, did you find it easier or harder

to actually choreograph
and create to a classic?

If I get this one chance
to create to this song that I love,

I'll do it the way that I believe in it

and just enjoy
and have everybody look so beautiful.

You have 25 dancers to routine.

What is it like working with these 25?

I mean, so easy when you have
a group like this.

[audience cheering]

Reece, was the choreography
what you would expect from a semifinalist?

{\an8}Um, I'm not going to lie,
I was expecting more.

{\an8}From the previous week's
when I've watched, obviously...

[audience booing]

Keep it coming!

With the previous weeks,
I've seen the choreo

and I've seen you all dance as one.
It was a bit safe this week.

Yo use did all look clean,
but I was expecting more.

Choreography-wise, I think you could have
utilized your dancers way more,

put some technique in there.

Shown more of them
rather than just yourself and your style.

All right, let's go ahead
and talk to Johnny.

What's your take?
Did he make the most of the song?

I think Max did do a great job.

I loved the golden showers at the end.
Really sealed the deal.

{\an8}- Oh, guys, come on. You saw it.

{\an8}But honestly, Max, you did a great job.

I loved the look, but I was looking
for more of the dance-style elements

in the '80s that we can relate
to choreography-wise.

Uh… Yeah. I do.

The goal for me was to bring
the personality from the '80s.

If you can capture essence
and love in a song,

I think that it's
the most powerful thing ever.

I wanted it to feel dreamy
and I just wanted it to feel like a moment

I think that my fighting spirit in
my heart and my soul were really shown.

This week we have two pieces.

The only way to get through this
is to be more prepared than I have been.

So, just so you know,

I'll be super-prepared
and I'll expect you guys to be the same.

I've got the 2000s
and it's a really fun song.

I immediately thought down south,

an HBCU inspired piece,

which are historically
Black colleges and universities.

They step, they drill and I hope
to do it justice with this performance.

This style is all about women empowerment.

You know, it's just really powerful,
sexy movement.

Bring that with you guys on to the stage
and give all of that energy,

because, I'm not going to lie,

I have a fire under my a*s
and I'm ready to light that fire.

It's not enough
just to stop at the semifinals,

I gotta go to the final.

I'm ready to bring it. Diamonds are made
under pressure and that's me.

I just know that, you know, semi-finals.

Did she make you proud with this creation?

I'm also originally
from St. Louis, Missouri

and y'all did a St. Louis
artist's song like Nelly.

In high school, I was a majorette,

so I was super judging this piece

and I felt that y'all did an amazing job

at being able to bring exactly what it was
that you wanted to the stage.

I love it, and shout-out to the dancers
because y'all smashed. It was…

Cece, was this choreography
semifinal-worthy?

Absolutely.

In my honest opinion,
absolutely, you came back this week

and you said, "I'm stepping
on these b*tches' necks."

I appreciate that. I felt it.

I'm a '90s baby myself.

I was probably the same age

and I remember gagging
and that's exactly how I felt

when I was watching you guys.

Which honestly made me a little nervous,

because I don't know
that much about the '60s.

The pressure is definitely on.

It's getting tougher.

There's work to be done.

I was born in 1992,
so I don't know much about the '60s,

so I definitely will go home
and do my research.

I'm gonna have to call
my grandma up or something.

I don't want to go full '60s with it.

What was your connection to this song?

Well, I actually didn't know this song,

but I went and researched some '60s moves,

so we have little nods of it in there.

I still wanted it to feel like me,
but I really like the song now.

How did you think Brandi did
and did she do the '60s justice?

Yes, I did think
that she did the '60s justice.

I think that, like,
even from the top of the show,

Antony, AKA André 3000,
was in character the entire time

as everyone else was.

Everybody was in character…

Even Brandi said she wanted
to give slight nods,

but it felt that you guys truly emulated
what the '60s were,

as if you were watching like Hairspray,

and when the white girls
get to dance with the Black girls.

"We all happy, having a good time."
That's what it felt like to me. Great job.

Shakara, was there anything you thought
could have been done differently?

Honestly, no.

{\an8}I loved the piece. I loved the use of,
like you say, the nods to the styles,

but also staying true to yourself

and using the foundation styles
that you do so well.

The locking section's my favorite,
possibly in the whole season.

I absolutely loved that.

Right balance of humor, and technique

and partner work, space, you smashed it.
