01x16 - Putting Feelings Into a Moment, Part 2

Post by bunniefuu »

How about the three of us

beat the Unique Monster

Wethermon the Tombguard together?

What?! Unique Monster?!

Yes.

Just a guess, but I'm pretty sure

he's a "special condition" type.

Things I can think of are

"obtaining or breaking a certain object,"

"surviving for a certain amount of time,"

or "surviving a certain attack."

For a rarer type, there's also

"via persuasion in battle."

Do we have any clues?

After testing a few things out,

it is likely a time-based type.

As time passes, Wethermon the Tombguard

goes through various battle phases.

To start things off,

for his first phase

you have to survive for ten minutes.

I won't let your memories

be a sad one.

Please

give him, Wethermon,

his permanent rest.

(All Emotions in the Moment (Part 2))

Eh?

What's this?

Rebirth Tearjewel!

It's a resurrection item.

It can resurrect an incapacitated

player to full HP

as long as it's used within ten seconds

of their death.

This game has one of those?

This is some god-tier item!

I went to various towns and bought

all twelve for sale this morning.

Use them well.

One of these cost four million mahni.

Four million?!

We each carry four of them.

And also these Divine Lifesalves

which resurrect you with half HP.

We'll each carry five of them.

That's the maximum number

of additional lives we can have.

We will challenge Wethermon

with 27 resurrection items.

Got it.

For the most part, Sunraku-kun

will take on Wethermon's attacks.

When you're down, either Katzo-kun or

I will resurrect you and taunt the enemy.

And he'll do the same when

either one of us gets taken down, right?

Yes.

Our goal is to survive fighting

Wethermon for as long as possible.

This is the only way.

I call this

the zombie tactic!

Wind Slash!

Katzo-kun!

On it!

Take this!

(Sunraku)

I'm in till you're ready!

Fill me in, Sunraku!

He's unbeatable,

so dodge with all you got!

Well, that's easy to grasp!

You survived for

two minutes and five seconds.

That's the longest anyone has reached

on their first try.

Well done.

So, what do you think of him?

Unless you got a real good plan,

as much as I hate to say it,

he's not a guy you could beat.

Wethermon the Tombguard.

Gotta hand it to him.

He really is part of the Seven Colossi

like Lycagon.

Wind Slash!

I've invested a hell of a lot of money

into this "real good plan,"

so I hope you do your part.

To think that a single respawn

cost four million mahni

(Empire Bee Twinblades

Marsh Daggers (V3)

Moonblade (Waxing))

(Empire Bee Twinblades

Category: Twinblade

Durability: ■■■■□□□□

Attribute: Corrosive Poison

Multiplier: x1.15)

My weapon's durability is already less than

half from just two minutes of fighting!

I've gotta use something

with more durability.

I'll go with this weapon that's got

more durability after reforging!

Marsh Dagger V3!

Resurrection items, weapons,

this fight with Wethermon

is a w*r of endurance!

Tagging in, Katzo!

Okay! I'll hold him off again

when you die!

Got it!

Nothing can hurt you, eh?

Thunderclap!

The hell you will!

Skate Foot!

That was close!

Thunderclap's lightning lasts for

five seconds and will one-shot you.

Five whole seconds?!

Okay, I think I got it!

Even up close, if I use Skate Foot and run

full speed, I can just barely dodge them!

Nimbus Fist!

I don't "get" that one

(Sunraku)

Switch!

Wind Slash!

Switch!

Thunderclap!

This is impossible!

I can't dodge them!

Just staying alive

for thirty seconds is a miracle!

That's already impressive enough, actually.

We still have about

half our resurrection items.

Well done.

Also, you've been messing

with those scales.

What are those?

Just some prep work.

But I think I'll use them soon.

He stopped?

Ten minutes.

Finally, eh?

Ten minutes has passed.

We're entering the second phase.

E

Export.

Summon Call.

Tactical Mount.

Kirin!

Katzo-kun!

Roger that! I'm on it!

Respawning duty's over for me now.

Just as what I was told.

Once ten minutes passed,

Wethermon will summon

a horse-shaped mech named Kirin!

Huh?

Wha

I was told it's a horse,

but it's two levels above

what I expected

This is

a dump truck with legs!

(Tactical Mount

Kirin)

The second phase.

Just like the first phase,

we need to survive for ten minutes,

but also while preventing the summoned

Kirin from merging with Wethermon.

Katzo-kun, I'm counting on you

to deal with the Kirin!

If we leave that thing be,

it'll start firing missiles and lasers.

On top of that, if it gets to

merge with Wethermon,

no strategy can help us

deal with them!

They'll just trample all over us

and beat us effortlessly!

The only way to deal

with it is to jump on it

and continuously trigger

its buck-off animation!

Easier said than done!

How am I supposed to

rodeo with this thing?!

Didn't you play a ton of that

fighting game called Cavalry Crisis?

Show me some riding skills!

Calvary Crisis?! What's that?!

I've never heard a trash game

with that name!

Shut up! Just focus on fighting him!

Got it!

Cav is not a trash game!

In fact, it's a god-tier one!

And moreover,

it's more of a fighting game!

Well, what now?

In SLF, it's not rare

for its intricate world

and setting to indicate

clues to the right strategy.

As such, since Kirin is a machine,

it needs to be maintained!

Found it!

A field maintenance ladder!

Bingo!

Whop!

Any horse needs a brindle, doesn't it?

Skill.

Whip Puppet: Snake!

Never thought I'd use

my Archaeologist sub-job

in this manner!

I'm Japan's number threeCavalry Crisis player!

Let me show you my techniques,

you bucking bronco!

W-Wait, hold up!

Sunraku-kun and Katzo-kun

are holding our enemies back,

but, at this rate, we will run out

of resurrection items before time is up.

Now is the time to use it.

The Reward Scales!

The Golden Scales is a group run by NPCs.

They own several of the rarest

kind of item found in the game,

the "Unique" items.

The Reward Scales is one such item.

By placing an item in the

"offering dish" on the left,

you can receive assorted perks

from the "blessing dish" on the right

depending on the value

of the item placed.

I'm counting on you,

little scales.

I had to beg and plead

with the Golden Scales

to have them lend you to me.

Rebirth Tearjewels aren't

the only things I'm spending on.

I'm taking all my booty,

all the high-end items

I bought and traded for

a grand total of thirty million mahni's worth.

And I'm putting it

all on the scale!

(Offering Dish

30,002,310 mahni)

(Select Perk)

(Extra Status Points)

No no no no no no no no!

The centrifugal force

gonna throw me!

Dammit! I don't have

nearly enough stamina!

Even if I can see his attacks,

if I mismanage my stamina

for a second, I'm instantly dead!

The scales retain their balance.

They turn my value into numbers

and grant me an almighty power.

Although it's only temporary,

this lets me award

extra status points to people.

I get one point

for every 100,000 mahni.

My entire fortune

earns me a total of 300 points!

I'll start off by giving

each of you 50 points!

(Blessing Dish

Perk

Extra Status Point: 300)

Take it, you thieves!

Whoa!

Oops!

My stamina recovered?!

No

My stats went up!

Pencilgon's doing, eh?

I was wondering what

she was doing on that window.

She boosted my stamina and luck!

I get that I'm not dealing any damage

to you no matter where I attack.

But

Infight!

This isn't the first time

I've fought someone like you!

I've got a combat skill

that deals damage based

on luck and not strength!

That is

Wind

Hand of

Fortune!

Slash!

(Hand of Fortune)

A swordsman without their sword

is like curry rice without the curry!

Take that, you white rice b*stard!

Get some dried plums

or radishes or something!

Skill.

Skate Foot!

Woohoo!

I got your sword!

Serves you right!

But whoa

This is huge! So heavy!

I guess I can't put this

into my inventory, huh.

But

stopping him from using his hyperspeed

slashes and lighting is a huge gain.

Now I just have to deal

with that Nimbus Fist attack.

But I can avoid it by going

behind Wethermon's back.

Now I know that,

I can easily dodge it.

Good job!

Sure, my stats are boosted and all

But that ain't enough

to stop this thing!

Katzo-kun!

There are still four more minutes

until the end of Phase Two!

Stick on that thing

like your life depends on it!

It'll keep doing that animation

as long as you're on it!

I know that

stick?

Ah

Aaaah

I got a great idea!

A great idea?

What's that

Tidal Rush.

That was close!

I did managed to dodge it,

but he was so close to grabbing me!

If he had, I bet that would

have instantly k*lled me.

But man, they even gave him moves

for when he loses his sword.

This is a bad position!

Pencilgon!

I was so focused on dodging him,

I evaded in the wrong direction!

He went for Pencilgon!

Tidal Ru

Where are you looking at?!

Your sword is over here!

You can still grab me

from that direction?!

Tidal Rush!

(Sunraku)

Sunraku-kun!

Nimbus Fist!

Nimbus Fist's safe spot

It's right behind Wethermon's back!

Seven

Eight!

Back to square one!

Wethermon!

Wind

Slash!

Sunraku-kun!

If you die even once now,

it could potentially doom us all!

If he had used anything other than

Nimbus Fist, it could've wiped us out!

My bad!

At least I know all his animations

when he's got his sword!

This is better!

Well, that's good to hear!

Katzo-kun?!

L-Look! Look at me!

N-now I won't get thrown off.

That's

your "good" idea?

Oh, well.

Suit yourself.

What happened over there?!

It might wreck your concentration,

so keep your eyes away.

Got it!

B-but all the shaking is starting

to take away my HP and stuff.

I'm built to take damage,

but I may be in trouble

if this keeps dragging on!

It's okay.

Huh?

Doesn't seem like

we defeated him just yet.

Yeah.

You two, prepare yourselves.

Even back when Ashura Kai

had a decent crew,

I've only gotten this far once.

Which means

The second phase is over.

Now's the real deal.

The third phase.

The last time I got to this point,

Ashura Kai was wiped out at the start.

When Wethermon the Tombguard's

armor starts to crack

he let out a scream, followed by an

area-wide shockwave that wiped us all out.

It k*lled us in one hit even when

we had all the defensive buffs.

Doesn't sound like there's

anything we can do about that.

But you look like

you've got some secret plan.

Well, we'll see about that.

If this doesn't work out,

you've gotta figure out

how to evade it yourself.

In SLF, the game world's

often the key to beating challenges.

I always thought that

Wethermon was a cyborg

who's got a mechanized body

with tech from the Divinity era.

But

So he called Wethermon the Tombguard,

a "death defier" and a "walking corpse," huh.

That info gave me

a look behind the curtain.

He's an undead monster!

And you deal with the undead

with holy water!

And that's not just any holy water!

That's a holy water made with care

by the Saint of Love, Eristella!

The best anti-undead potion you can get!

SLF Theater!

Mini!

A trash game hunter is an early bird.

My destination today is the countryside.

So I need to get on an early train.

Mr. Sunraku watches the scenery

pass by from the window

inside the train heading

west with his sharp eyes.

I got info that

a certain shop is selling

an unopened limited editionMoody Music Adventure.

(What is Moody Music Adventure?)

VR games nowadays goes

without sound, or rather,

a majority of them have no BGM.

But there are several games

made during the early days

that come with BGM

like you'd find on a TV game.

But they're usually too loud,

so many would

just lower the volume

or mute them all together.

But for whatever reason, despite

this game being a combination

of rhythm game and action RPG,

it has godawful sound balance.

So it's just a trash rhythm game

with stupidly loud BGM.

And from the limited edition,

you get the headphones the MC uses.

Well, that's fine and all,

but just putting on the same headphones

that play absurdly loud music into your head

like in the game in real life is sure

to bring back some trauma, so

Like a bonfire getting more wood to burn,

he lets out a barrage of words,

which carries not only a hint of a grudge

but also an emotion akin

to that of happiness.

After taking a quick lunch

at the town's station,

he arrives at the shop in question.

However, he's far from relaxed.

Look.

It's a folding chair.

It's still warm.

Did someone get here

before the first train?

This is a trace of an extraordinary

trash game hunter.

As he touchs the

still-warm folding chair,

Mr. Sunraku carefully

observes his surroundings.

They didn't say they had two

unopened limited edition copies.

Which means

I've got to dash into the store

as soon as it opens to win.

Trash Game.

They're what you'd call

the shadows of video game industry.

As Mr. Sunraku starts a thorough stretch,

he calmly looks into the future.

At times, even a brethren is his enemy.

However, there is also

a smile on his face.

So how did it go?

Did you fight for it?

Nope.

The guy was after

a completely unrelated thing.

So there weren't any other

extraordinary trash game hunter out there.

The heck is "extraordinary

trash game hunter" anyway?

Don't ask me.
