01x08 - How The West Was Won

Post by bunniefuu »

[Harmon] Previously

on On Call

I give this to all

my trainees day one.

"Get out of jail free" card.

I found this. Did

she make a threat?

How'd you know he

was at that motel?

I know your dad, so

you can talk to me.

Leona, he's gonna k*ll

whoever did this to you

- if they don't k*ll him first.

- I know.

We got a bird

whistling in our ears,

singing us a song that's

gonna hand us Smokey.

You in?

f*ck yeah.

[heavy metal riff playing]

[banging sound]

[heavy metal stops]

Let's roll.

Let's go.

On me.

[suspenseful music playing]

[kung fu movie sounds]

You didn't bring me one?

Nuh-uh.

Go get my Chips Ahoy.

You go.

Been busting my a*s all

day at the docks. Come on.

Bring me my cookies, and I'll go

hunting for your happy spot again.

[giggling]

- [shouting]

- [glass shattering]

[Harmon] Police.

Move and I drop you.

Jesus.

Shh.

Set it down.

Easy.

[Wizard] Get the f*ck off me!

Hands above your head.

Diaz, watch her.

[Diaz] Interlace your

hands behind your head.

Let's play a game, hmm?

It's called 'Who Can

Stay Quiet the Longest?'

Aren't you assholes supposed

to come through the front door

and show me a f*cking warrant?

Is that what you want, shithead?

The whole neighborhood

knowing you just got tagged?

We did you a f*cking favor.

Yeah. Now nobody will know that

you're cooperating with the police.

f*ck you. I ain't

cooperating with nobody.

- Ah, shut the f*ck up.

- Get him up.

[grunting]

We've been on you two months,

watching you work Terminal

11 down at the port

picking up that dope and

making the delivery rounds.

And that includes

Santiago Carrillo.

Smokey.

And we hear that he's

got 50 keys of fentanyl

coming in from China tomorrow.

Is that true?

Just 'cause the boys let you come

along don't make you a tough b*tch.

Maybe not.

But I am the b*tch

standing in the way

of them nailing you with

seven trafficking felonies.

Do you know what

just one carries?

Life, m*therf*cker.

Like you're buried alive.

So

what do you say?

Long Beach police officers

ex*cuted dozens of warrants

to known members of the

street g*ng East Barrio,

which resulted in the

arrest of 40 individuals

and the recovery of g*ns

and ill*gal narcotics.

East Barrio is responsible

for a recent spike in violence

due to an ongoing intra-conflict

within the organization.

It was our mission to dismantle

and stop the bloodshed

so we can restore peace

to our neighborhoods.

Cops came in, dragged my son

away like he was an animal.

Make no mistake, these

are violent offenders.

We are drawing a line.

And that line will not be

crossed without consequences.

[Diaz] Know what today is?

Oh, f*ck, don't tell

me it's your birthday.

No. Close, though.

I got 60 days on.

- Oh. No sh*t?

- Mm-hmm.

- Which means my review's coming up.

- Tomorrow.

You do know what today is.

Come on, what kind of T.O.

would I be if I didn't?

You ever bounce anyone

back to day one?

Oh, for sure. That's

part of the job.

Why? Are you nervous?

Should I be?

I don't know. Why don't

you get the office ready?

Tonight's gonna be big, rook.

Yo, Padawan.

Hey.

Good news. My commander

signed off on you.

For what?

A permanent spot on my team.

We just need the Chief

to okay your transfer,

then you can ride with

the big dogs for real.

Told you I'd make it happen.

Dude.

I don't know what to say, um

You can't play mama bear to every

cub that comes through here.

Yeah. f*ck it.

I'm ready.

[Lasman] Harmon.

Harmon.

Not a word until it's official.

We got about a dozen offenders

charged, processed, and

ready to be transported.

What are you doing?

- She's rolling with me today.

- [Lasman] What are you talking about?

We got a pretty big round-up

on our hands after last night.

Yeah. So I heard.

You and the Lieutenant were

just all over the news.

Yeah, well, that was

her idea, not mine.

So has anybody flipped?

Given up Smokey?

Detectives are grinding

out interrogations,

but yeah, we think

something's

'Cause we know where

he's gonna be tonight.

He's got 50 keys of China

Fire coming in tonight.

Smokey's a person of

interest in a double homicide

and a marked man

by his own team,

and you think he's still

here in Long Beach?

The load's worth over a million.

There's no chance he's

gonna leave that behind.

We got Smokey's runner. He's

in custody and cooperating.

He'll conduct a controlled

delivery for us.

We got good intel on the drop?

We don't know the exact meeting spot

until we're on the move with the drugs.

Yeah, but either way, we flush

Smokey out, then we take him down.

We lose 50 keys of

fentanyl, we all go down.

Which is why I need

officers on this I trust.

Okay. Do your thing.

I'm here if you need me.

[suspenseful music playing]

[indistinct chatter]

Okay, here's the deal

This will start off as a fixed

surveillance at the port.

Once the C.I. picks up

the load, we go mobile.

Our objective is simple

follow the C.I. to Smokey, let a

hand-to-hand exchange take place,

- then we drop the hammer.

- [indistinct chatter]

Yo!

Feel free to chime in.

Even if we can't get

Smokey dirty on the drugs,

we're still hooking him up

on the two murders, right?

That sh*t with your

brother hit close, huh?

Makes it personal?

Yeah. You could say that.

Then go f*cking

work radio calls.

I don't need some cherry with

a hard-on acting recklessly.

He's good.

Is he?

'Cause we only get

one shot at this.

Understood.

Let's get tucked in.

Remember, keep a low profile.

Stay out of sight

until I need you.

Copy.

[police radio chatter]

How long you know that guy?

Sergeant Koyama? He was my T.O.

Is he always an as*h*le?

He's just trying

to keep you sharp.

They're all assholes.

Those guys are solid as

they come, all right?

And they get sh*t done.

Yeah. I've seen how

they get sh*t done.

Meaning?

I've been on the other

side of guys like that.

f*cking bullies with badges.

[sighs]

Look

You should know what's up.

Koy asked me to join his team.

Are you?

If the stars align, absolutely.

[Koy on radio] Harmon,

you still with us?

A hundred percent.

Wizard's loaded up with the product

and got the drop location from Smokey.

We're on the move to

Downtown Johnny's.

The truck stop?

That's the one. We're letting

this play out, so stay low.

10-4.

[suspenseful music playing]

Koy, we're tucked in a lot near

Alameda, ready and waiting.

Sit tight. Wait

for my command.

Heads up. We're live.

[Koy] Anyone have

eyes on Smokey?

[officer on radio] Negative.

Oh, f*ck.

Hold your positions.

I think I have him.

Koy, we ready to move or what?

[Koy on radio] Hold tight. Smokey's

got someone else handling the pickup.

Who?

[Koy] His daughter.

But everyone stay alert.

I guarantee he's close by.

[tires squealing, screeching]

[Leona] Ah, sh*t.

sh*t's jumping off! We have

multiple armed offenders!

And it's Smokey's own crew!

Everyone move in!

I repeat, move in!

[sirens wailing]

[grunting]

Shots fired!

Repeat, shots fired!

[groans]

[sirens wailing]

[Diaz] Watch out!

Charlie-85 at Downtown

Johnny's Truck Stop.

Active firefight underway.

Plain clothes officers

requesting help.

Leona!

What the f*ck?! Hold your

fire! Hold your fire!

Diaz, get back here!

Hold your cover!

[Diaz] Leona!

[grunts]

[Diaz] Leona!

[Diaz] Hey!

Hey! Hey! Drop it!

[Leona] Hey, Pocho Cop!

[grunting]

[Diaz groaning]

[groaning, coughing]

You gotta protect your family.

And I gotta protect mine.

[g*nsh*t]

[Koy] Officer

down! Officer down!

Diaz!

[cries out]

[Koy] Hey! Hang on,

brother. I got you.

I got you. Breathe,

man, breathe.

Hey, look at me.

Diaz!

We're right here, brother.

[Harmon] Where's he hit?

[Koy] First one hit the vest.

[Diaz groans]

[Diaz wailing]

It's all right.

It's just a nick.

Hey, hey. Look at me.

You're gonna be all

right, all right?

You're not dying

today. Not on my watch.

- Look at me.

- Smokey.

[Harmon] Where?

Go. I got your rookie. Go!

Officer down. g*nsh*t

to the upper torso.

- [crowd commotion]

- [Harmon] Get out of the way!

Move! Move!

- Where is he?

- In there. I think he has a g*n.

Go!

Let me see your f*cking hands!

Smokey!

I'm not gonna say it again!

Show me your f*cking hands!

[groaning]

Charlie-85, we have multiple

casualties at our 20.

One critical. Need EMS.

[dispatch] Copy, 85. EMS already

en route. Standby for assistance.

I'm not going back to prison.

Well, I'm not letting you die.

Leona?

I'm sorry.

You gotta put pressure on that.

[crying]

[grunts]

All because that f*cking

kid k*lled some cop.

Me and you

were the only ones holding

it down back in the day.

I still am.

[sirens approaching]

[Harmon] How you feeling?

I ain't gonna lie sh*t

hurts like a m*therf*cker.

Yeah, well, it beats

the alternative, right?

Jesus. Let me help.

[wincing]

[grunts]

I know.

I f*cked up.

[knocking]

Look who lost his cherry.

Thank you, sir.

For having my back.

Anytime.

So you think Wizard

tipped off East Barrio?

The question I've

been asking is,

who's Smokey's big

connect to China?

Sounds like that's

our top priority.

We need to talk about that.

I already told him, so go ahead.

Your transfer was denied.

Denied?

Why?

Someone in West

put a brick on you.

I don't know who, but

there's nothing I can do.

A brick?

She pissed off one of the bosses

and they're holding her back.

[Lasman] Nah, man, they

cried like babies in lock-up.

[laughing] No, I'm serious.

Like, grown-a*s men.

I'm sittin' there with

Hey, let me call you

back. All right. Bye.

Hey.

So

I hear Smokey's chained up

in the county infirmary.

Mm-hmm, yeah. It

all worked out.

Yeah. How's your trainee?

Probably wishing those shots he took

got him out of his review today.

[chuckles]

You know, you guys did some

really good police work.

The two of you should

be taking a victory lap.

I think that that can wait.

What's up? Something

on your mind?

How long are you planning on

holding this vendetta against me?

What vendetta?

Everyone knows that you blame me for

not getting bumped up to Lieutenant.

But that was your partner's

fault. It wasn't mine.

Harmon, that's ancient history.

Then why the f*ck was I

sidelined from the drug team?

Hey, hey. Whoa. Look

Whatever you may think

No. If you have a

score to settle,

at least have the ba*ls

to do it to my face, okay?

Don't go through

department politics.

You need to chill on

your tone and sit down.

Okay.

Your first day training Diaz,

you were captured on body cam

verbally threatening to physically

as*ault a civilian on a domestic call.

And then, on top of that, you

ordered the kid to dime you out,

knowing full well that that would brand

him a snitch the rest of his career.

- No, I didn't order him to do anything.

- No, no, no, no. Hold on.

Whoa! You started this

sh*t. Let me finish.

If I was looking for some bullshit

score to settle, there it was.

Wrapped for me in a f*cking bow.

But nothing came of it.

You wanna know why? Huh?

Because I buried the

footage to protect you

and your rookie.

So if someone sidelined

you from the Drug Team,

it sure the f*ck wasn't me.

[sighs]

Sir, that was admirable

but unnecessary.

Look, Harmon.

Lord knows you and I don't see

eye-to-eye on a whole lot of sh*t.

But with all the craziness

going on out there,

there's one thing

I know for sure.

It's that you feel

it the same way I do.

So if we're gonna make

any real difference,

you and I we

we gotta learn how to

stand shoulder-to-shoulder.

Yes, sir.

I'd be neglecting my duty

if I didn't start by recognizing

your efforts last night.

I'm glad you are both okay.

Thank you, Lieutenant.

Thank you, ma'am.

Diaz, considering what you've

been though, we'll keep it brief.

Do you have a

personal statement?

I do. Yes.

[clears throat]

In my first two months,

I haven't been perfect.

But I'm getting better.

Yeah, I'm learning the maps,

how to diffuse situations.

But, um, I'm not gonna lie

the job's a lot

harder than I thought.

It's also more

rewarding as well.

A lot more.

I do struggle to turn it off at night,

but I'm also getting better at that.

Yeah. I'm becoming the

officer I strive to be.

That's due to Officer

Harmon's guidance.

And I, um

You know, I could go on and on

about all the ways that you

make me a better officer.

But what I'm most grateful for

is that you made me a better man.

I mean, I've learned things I

didn't even know I needed to learn.

Now, in retrospect,

honestly, I don't know

what I'd do without.

So I owe you.

I owe you a lot

more than you know.

Harmon, do you have

a recommendation?

Diaz

you have a fearless drive.

That's commendable.

But trust is earned

through smart decisions.

Not just brave ones.

You keep on running into

situations that are dangerous,

ignoring orders.

That's not a game of chance

that you can keep playing.

That's why it's my recommendation

that we drop you back to day one

and we restart probation.

Diaz, any response?

Um, yeah, I

[sighs]

No, ma'am.

Okay, then. As long as you

understand what this means.

Your parole period starts over.

If you fail again, you're out.

Thank you. You're dismissed.

[Harmon] Can I have a minute?

You denied my transfer

to the Drug Team?

I did.

Why?

Because you disobeyed direct

orders going after Maniac.

Disobeyed?

You went off book.

I am the one who found him!

And then told me how you did.

Because I trusted you.

You said that was

gonna stay between us.

It has. That's why

you're not off the job.

Any other lieutenant

would've fired you.

I got justice for Delgado.

And put your rookie's

life in danger.

That's bullshit!

Harmon, listen to your own

sermon. You're a good cop.

But in this current

climate, it is imperative

for you to be smarter

and more strategic.

Every move we make is

under a microscope.

So you're saying that I should learn

to play the politics better, right?

Like you did to

land your position.

Careful.

So I'm stuck on patrol?

For now.

Then let me take Diaz.

I don't think

that's a good idea.

Come on. I know him.

Through and through.

Let me finish what I started.

You blindsided me.

You think that was an

easy decision to make?

I wrestled with it.

Until the moment you

walked in that room.

No. You f*cked me because you didn't

get your promotion. Is that it?

Alex, I care about you.

All right? You need

a wake-up call.

Just 'cause you got a brick on you

doesn't mean I have to sink too.

See? Right here.

The way that you are reacting

it shows I made the right decision.

Look, I got 60 days on.

It's not like I was

gonna ride solo anyway.

You're not listening.

Yeah. And you're holding me

to some impossible standard.

I am keeping you alive.

Whether you see that or not.

I'm not Delgado.

No.

You are not her.

But I'm gonna make damn f*cking

sure you don't suffer the same fate.

That's why I told Bishop

you're sticking with me.

What? For another rotation?

For however long it takes.

[tender music playing]

[engine starts]

Charlie-85, clear.

[police radio chatter]

[dramatic music playing]

[siren wailing]

[theme music playing]
