Hello, son.

You really should

Yeah, well, I'll be

What do you want?

A cup of tea would be nice.

Ah, isn't cheap port your drink?

I've been sober 17 years now.

Is that why you're here, part
of their 12-step bullshit?

Trying to make amends?

I'm here because
of your brother.

Richie's dead.

I told you, he'd come to see me.

Bet you pulled the

Yeah. Yeah, you saw him.

I saw the back of

Probably one of

He's in trouble, James.

If he was alive,

He owes money to

I set him up with a

just to cover his debts.

But that went to sh*t.

Now he's disappeared.

I don't believe you.

They'll k*ll him

Your mother would've

I loved your mother, James.

He ran. I pursued.

The force used

This isn't a hearing.

How did you feel when
you entered the scene?

There was a nine-year-old
with his throat cut

in the bathtub,

and a man in the next
room eating an ice-cream.

How would you feel?

Horrified.

But I wasn't there.

How did you feel?

I felt like cutting his d*ck off

and making him eat it
with his ice-cream.

But I didn't.

I arrested him.

After fracturing two of his
ribs and breaking his jaw.

Well, technically, I
didn't break his jaw.

The stairs did.

You've brought in violent
offenders without incident

in the past.

Do you think your father's

Well, he k*lled my mum.

So, surely I'd be a

if I wasn't angry
that he was out.

Your anger is rational.

But you carry a loaded weapon.

So I need to be sure
you're in control of it.

Have you had any contact with
your father since his release?

Nope.

She disappeared with
this bag in 2003

on the night of
her 21st birthday.

She hasn't been seen since.

How long has this
place been abandoned?

Since 2004.

They found asbestos in the roof.

The owner lives in Sydney.

He left it empty as a

So, um...

Cody?

[GASPS SOFTLY]

I tried to reopen Zoe's
case for years, so, why now?

What new evidence do you have?

It's not her body, or you
would have told me, right?

It's not her body.

And I'm sorry that's all I
can tell you at the moment.

OK, so... she could
still be alive.

OK, I'm not an idiot.
I know the odds.

It's just, I can't just

shove her in a box
and forget about her,

like Leo.

If there is even the
slightest chance she's alive,

I have to hope.

Just here. This is it.

Home sweet home.

Well...

At least you don't get
Jehovah's Witnesses dropping by.

How long have you
lived here for?

About a year.

One day my rent went up.

happening everywhere.

Nadja, you old cougar.

- What?
- Val, he's a cop.

- Real or role-play?
- Shh.

Um, a real one.

Sorry.

- Disappointing.
- Val...

Um, I'll speak to you soon, OK?

Sure.

- Bye, Val.
- Bye.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER
AND LAUGHTER]

SAMARA: Yeah.

- Mm-hm.
- Thank you.

Do you know where Al's
Convenience Store is?

Um... Yeah, it was in the same
strip as the radio station,

but it closed down years ago.

Zoe went there the
night she disappeared.

Road-trip snacks?

Maybe, but the timeline's funny.

OK. This is Zoe's house.

This is the convenience store.

Hmm...

Hah. Radio station.

Service station. And...

Brisbane.

That's a tall building. OK...

You drive.

So, Zoe left her
house around 11.30,

after they cut the cake.

According to her receipt,

at 12.28 she went to
the convenience store,

but THEN she went to the
radio station with her pack,

presumably to crash
for the night.

BUT! But, but, but...

At 1.16 she went to
a service station

on the outskirts of town.

Huh. And THEN she
went to Brisbane.

We have her phone records.

But why would she
leave her bag behind?

Unless...

Only her phone left Moorevale.

ZOE: You're with Cody and
ZeeJay on Valley Vibes FM.

It's just hit 1am,

and we've had too much sugar.

So we're asking
the big questions.

CODY: Alright, my turn.

What would you rather fight -

a horse-sized duck

or a thousand duck-sized horses?

- [BOTH LAUGH]
- ZOE: Are you there with me?

- CODY: Yeah... Sure.
- ZOE: Duck-sized horse.

CODY: What? That's crazy!

ZOE: No way! You know,
ducks are hilarious,

and so are you.

So, I reckon you guys
could make friends

and we wouldn't have
to fight at all.

[RECORDING CONTINUES
INDISTINCTLY]

[PHONE RINGS]

Hello?

Hello?

[BREATHING OVER PHONE]

[BREATHING]

Zoe?

[BREATHING]

I know it's you.

Let me help you. Just
tell me where you are.

[BEEPING]
