I've never had, like,
vocal coaching

and, like, performance coaching.

I think a coach can teach
me and help me so much

My name is Savanna Woods.

I am 26 years old.

And I live in Stanwood,
Washington.

been singing my entire life.

I was born into
a musical family.

I distinctly remember
Savanna writing music

when she was 2 1/2, 3.

I remember one about a toaster.

She wrote a song
about a toaster.

[ Laughs ] That was one of my best songs,
though.

Yeah. It was a good one.

My parents are
amazing supporters.

My mom has muscular dystrophy,

which she's had my whole life.

Muscular dystrophy is
a degenerative disease,

so it's progressively
deteriorating your muscles

surrounding your lungs
and your heart and...

So it affects all
parts of your body.

[Speaking indistinctly]
...keep your arms any warmer.

[ Both laugh ]

Watching my mom
deal with her illness

has taught me to
take each moment

and live it to the fullest,

and so I wanted to
reach more people

and connect with more people
and just get my music out there.

So,
I've traveled all over the world

with this idea that one day

I could combine music
and new experiences.

I come to you
from Iceland today.

And for the past three years,

I've been doing
"Wandering Wednesdays."

I'm here in France.

I might be staying at a hostel,

or I record a song
in different locations.

One last song for you in Rome.

And it changed my life
because I didn't realize

you could live like that.

You can literally do
anything you want in life.

No matter where I am,

It's something

pushing me out of my shell.

For my blind audition,

It has that rocker, indie vibe

and then can build up into this raw,
grungy energy.

I love to have that
ethereal feel to my music,

as well as the
grit and the power.

I've seen a lot of the world...

...but "The Voice" can
really help me connect

with more people and
sing on much bigger stages.

I wanted to hear how it would
sound when she came back

and got small again,
and I loved it.

tone is incredible.

I think you are
incredibly laid-back,

and to have that contrast
in your performance style

with those big rock
vocals is very impressive.

I was able to really feel that
you had something to say,

and that's the kind of
artist I want to work with.

I was fortunate enough to
work with Thunderstorm Artis,

and one of the
things we worked on

was just finding ways to make
sure the audience at home,

all these people here who were
just blown away by your performance,

feel every word,
every thought, every note.

And I know that you and
I together could do that.

I wasn't sure which band it was.

Savanna, first of all,
I hear your confidence,

and I particularly
loved the moments

when you were wailing
and hitting those notes

with so much electricity
and edge in your voice.

You have quite a choice to make.

And I'm rooting for you.
I hope you do very well.

Kelly: I did wait until the
last minute to turn around,

and there was a reason for that.

I loved the powerful
moments in the chorus.

I could tell you, like,
put the rasp in there.

That's an advanced
thing to do vocally.

But I was curious,
after all that rasp... I was like,

"I'm wondering when she
comes back down at the end,"

if it's gonna show that
you've had wear and tear.

And you came back and were
really pretty in that head voice.

This is gonna not
sound like a compliment,

but it is to me because I
love a creepy kind of vibe.

Yeah. I love Billie Eilish,
Fiona Apple, Cranberries.

I think that sultry
kind of sound is cool.

So,
bottom line... I think you're cool as hell.

I don't even know
anyone that's been like you

on the six seasons
I've been here.

For me, what just happened
was Patty Griffin and Nirvana

had a baby, and I, like,
really liked it in my head.

Not to interrupt you,
Kelly, but... No, I'm done.

She's now said a couple

and she waited to

It's just really awesome
to see a woman

so confident in her

oddness to my team,

and I love it 'cause I'm super odd,
so she gonna fit in.

I know.

I was pretty

I'm 15 years old.

And me and my dad live in Romeo,
Michigan.

We love to cook together.

My dad was how I
started getting into music.

Our relationship
has grown so much

because of everything that
we've gone through together.

My parents got divorced
when I was 4 years old.

My relationship with
my mom is really great.

I'm really thankful for that.

But my dad raised three girls.

In fifth grade,
my dad got remarried.

They were married
for about two years,

and one day, we came home,
and the house was completely empty.

She took everything and left.

[ Voice breaking ] I love my dad,
and...

it wasn't easy to see
him get hurt like that.

[ Sniffles ]

Scott: I was devastated,
but she helped me,

I think,
more than I even helped her.

Rachel: I was really scared.

When you've restarted your
life so many times already,

it's scary to rebuild it again
'cause you don't know...

where this one's gonna lead.

Rachel: My biggest
outlet was music.

My dad was a worship leader,

and so I started
singing for my church.

I have more recently
been doing marching band,

and I'm in theater, also.

I was writing a lot of,
like, overcoming songs

because that's my story,
is overcoming.

and made a transition

not feel distracting,
but using it as a tool

when it needs to be there
and the rest of the time

just approaching it
from a storyteller aspect.

But one of the things that
we also have in common,

which I didn't realize till I just
saw your PowerPoint display,

is that I've also been
working on a presentation...

I've been in my
house for six months.

A lot of times when we play,
people think we're a couple.

That's my chance to say, no,
I have a beautiful wife at home.

I've been playing guitar
since I was 7 years old.

I was 14 years old when I
started to write my own music.

After college,
I was trying to figure out,

what career do I
want to go down?

And then I met Ollie.

We just clicked.

We have created
such a special version

with the banjo and guitar,
so I'm hoping

especially in a duo situation.

was a little off today for them.

As someone that sings with
two other people all the time,

I understand the importance
of those harmonies

and intricacies of the
melodies really being locked.

someone who really connects
deeply to what they're saying.

Lindsay: Being here feels
like a lifelong dream come true.

When I was little,
my mom and I loved

to sing in the car together.

That was one of our
favorite things to do.

And we would always
watch "The Voice" together,

and I would always tell her,
"One day

I'm gonna be on this show
and make you really proud."

And she was always like, "Okay."

And now I'm here
and I'm doing it.

My name is Lindsay
Joan. I'm 22 years old.

And I'm from San Diego,
California.

When I was little, I was always
trying to find ways to perform,

and my mom told me
that all of the best pop stars

and singers started
out in theater.

And so I was like, "Well,
I got to do that then!

If Britney Spears did it,
I got to do it!"

So I started doing
musical theater

when I was 6 years old,

and it was just something
that I really fell in love with.

After high school,
I went to my mom and I told her

that I'm going to New
York for two weeks

just to see what it's like.

And so, that two-week trip
ended up turning into a month

and then two months
as I auditioned for more.

Eventually,
I ended up joining a national tour

with a Broadway
company... "Kinky Boots"...

And it was one of the best
experiences I've ever had.

Having those
auditions be successful

and end up with me
booking this show

and being able to tour
the country for a year,

it really just reminded me,
at the center of everything,

all I want to do is perform.

For my blind audition,

I'm singing
"Nightmare" by Halsey.

I really look forward
to making music

that can incorporate
both pop and rock.

So, I'm doing sort of

a different arrangement
of "Nightmare."

I feel really invested in
making sure that this song

is told in a way that
can move people.

I've wanted to be on this
stage since I was a little kid,

and this moment
truly feels surreal.

memories of music

would be my mom
singing with her band.

I'd go down downstairs
when they practiced.

I started music at a young age,

and I was 15 when I got
into a band of my own.

We would perform at a lot of,
like, bars and breweries.

Sometimes we would
open up for my mom.

There was one time when we

and that was so fun.

My mom is my hero.

In 2016, she was diagnosed

with a brain tumor.

I remember when
they first told me.

I went to my room and
I sat under my desk,

and I just cried and
I started praying.

"I'm not ready to lose my mom."

So I'm just thankful
that she's here.

Recently,
she just had radiation done

to hopefully k*ll that mass.

I support her 100 percent. She's very,
very talented.

Savanna C.: My name
is Savanna Chestnut.

I am 25 years old.

I'm originally from Americus,
Kansas,

and I'm currently living in Emporia,
Kansas.

Americus has one
blinking red stoplight,

a liquor store/car wash,

a Casey's General Store,
and a few churches,

and that's about it.

Being such a small community,

there weren't a ton of
musical opportunities.

I started hanging out in my
grandma and grandpa's bar.

I would sing on karaoke night,

and the regulars would
all just get really excited.

My grandpa was
kind of a local legend.

He was known by
his nickname "Sody,"

and the bar was called Sody's.

All around,
he was kind of a wild guy.

Growing up,
things were kind of tight.

We lived in a trailer
home that was kind of

starting to fall
apart a little bit.

This is it.

But I think it really
made me who I am today.

I feel like I'm better and
stronger because of it.

Once my mom got
me my guitar lessons,

I just kept working at it.

I kept playing my songs for my friends,
for my family.

And when I was 18,
I carried out the big plan

I had to move to Nashville.

From there, I started getting

more and more gigs
out in the Midwest.

Most of my shows right
now are small-town bars,

lots of fairs and festivals,
and sometimes private parties.

It does pay my bills,
and it feels like

a pretty big accomplishment.

For my blind audition,
I'm singing

"Hold Me Now" by
the Thompson Twins.

It was an '80s pop song,

but if you strip away
the dance beats,

it's really just a really
beautiful love song.

old-school R&B music

and make me sing with her.

I just loved that
moment so much.

I think it formed
my love for singing.

In high school,
I was always singing and performing.

I was a flag girl. I'm part
of the marching band.

I sang in the jazz band.
We did competitions.

I got a scholarship to
the American Musical

and Dramatic Academy in New York,
New York.

I got to perform and venture out

and... and get my
name out there,

but this is by far,

the biggest thing to happen in my family.

I've been singing
since I can remember,

just around the house and
once in a while in church.

I've always loved music,
but when I was about 13,

I started being like, you know,

"I'm not gonna sing in
front of people anymore.

I'm not good enough."

I was too scared.

When I was 17 years old,

it was the first time I got really,
really sick.

I started shaking and my
heart rate got really high.

I actually got admitted
to the hospital.

It was a blood infection.

It caused me to go
into septic shock.

The doctors told my parents

that I might not make
it through the night.

That was a horrible feeling
that we might lose her.

[ Breathes shakily ]

I remember thinking
in that moment,

"If I make it through this,

I'm not gonna be scared to
sing in front of people anymore."

I mean, I was only 17.

I was like,
"I haven't done anything yet."

They ended up taking
out my gallbladder.

I was in and out of the
hospital for eight months

with reoccurring infections.

It was not an easy battle,
but I started teaching myself keys,

eventually guitar.

Music for me is
something that I go to

when I'm feeling down.

I would not be here without it.

I'm so excited to see
how it feels to perform...

Like, really perform.

I would want to work
with Kelly the most

because she really
connects with artists.

Brynn Cartelli is my favorite
person that Kelly ever coached.

I could have never
done that when I was 14.

So, like,
