dear Zoom can you make a pencil stand on

its tip using only two pieces of wire

and two clothes pins Becky S Casten

Minnesota PS you can balance it on your

nose or your finger okay okay well I

just thought of something but because

you see if I well look wait look I have

a pencil let's just say I have like it's

already on if I go like down here and I

I make supporters so they support it if

it stands up it can fall back or like

this and if I make it on here

like this yeah but if we tried to

balance it on our nose or on our fingers

these would have nothing to balance on

and the pencil would just fall over

anyway H I think we should start with

the close pins to try to have both sides

have even weights on

them well yeah but we still got to use

this and if it's even

weight go like that yeah but it's closer

clip the close pins a little further

on okay so maybe that doesn't

doesn't maybe if we wrap some wire

around it to make it heavier so it can

study itself just wrap it

around see like cuz now the wire is just

going around the pencils and that the

weight kind of stays the same on both

sides and you should put another piece

of wire up here yeah up the top of the

pencil yeah and now oh this doesn't

work one more try maybe it's the more

weight it has the more it

falls maybe going to try wrapping this

around like this so that the wire is

even on both sides now I I think the

wire is even on both sides and then add

clip

here and clip

here's a toy kids actually played with

in colonial times when the United States

wasn't a country yet they made it from

stuff they found around the house like

wood and string pull the ends and it

makes a buzzing noise listen can you

hear

it for today's room do I'm going to show

you how to make one sent in by Danny F

of Syracuse New York he calls it a

whirly gig

and instead of wood we're going to

recycle and use a yogurt container lid

you can decorate it any way you like I

use stickers and crayons to decorate

this one here's what you

do take a piece of masking

tape and put it on both

sides of your yogurt container

lid like

this and this

cut a piece of string to be two arm

lengths or about 40 C 40 in

Long here's your

string now poke two holes in the lid to

be about 4 inch

apart and be careful for the pin when

you poke through cuz it's pretty

sharp and since the holes are so small

I'm going to take my scissors and make

the holes

bigger and watch out for the scissors

too cuz it could be pretty

sharp yeah come on like that now it

should look like

this now thread your string through one

hole in the

lid and out through the other

and tie a knot at the

ends I'm going to tie two knots to make

it

stronger there we

go now hold the two

Loops so the lid hangs between your two

hands like

this now wind it up much e you hand

until it feels tight around your

fingers here we go and pull keep moving

your hands in and out to keep the yogurt
