students if they needed help with

anything tell every body to be safe if I

could be principal for a day I would let

all the girls have the basketball hoops

sent us a videotape of herself making

wrapping paper by printing with

potatoes here's what it will look like

here's what you need to make your own

wrapping

paper

potatoes a

knife large sheets of paper or you can

recycle a grocery bag like this one

paints and a paintbrush here's what you

do cut a potato in half like this

one carve out different shapes like a

Moon Star square or

triangle if you're not allowed to use a

knife ask an adult to help you it took a

long time for me to carve these shapes

with a knife but if you use a melon

baller you can carve a shape quickly

okay let's carve that

out that looks really cool like an egg

or a

circle then paint the shape all

different colors and stamp it on the

paper of your design and design of your

library my name is Daniel and I live in

Summit New

Jersey and I love to play jazz

piano I started playing the piano when I

was 4 years old and now I'm 11 so I've

basically been playing the piano for

about s

years the type of music that I like the

most is jazz because my dad used to

listen to a lot of jazz and he

influenced

me most of my friends like jazz but they

also like other types of music but when

I come in they really enjoy what I play

the best thing about having an audience

is that I do enjoy to entertain them and

I like when people are happy cuz it

makes me feel

good I feel that the piano is the most

natural thing that I do and I feel

connected to

it

even though I've been playing piano for

a while I'm just starting to read sheet

music which is site reading and I have a

computer that helps me with it when I

play on my keyboard it will record the

notes that I play on this

when my computer is done recording my

song I can play it back and see if I can

find any

mistakes and I found a mistake right

here and I'll fix it by deleting

it

and that's how you go through the whole

entire song my computer lets me turn

can't open a single door I don't know a

piano I don't get

challenged us to play Mary Had a Little

Lamb using glasses filled with water

okay so what do you want to do um I

don't know what should we want to try

and see how many not

there are so we can kind of play the

song yeah okay so if you would

go 1 2 three four 3 * three 3 * three

nine take away one take one away okay

what would have what do you think will

happen if we fill the glass with some

water maybe we should try like because I

know that see if we go like that it's a

high note and if we put something in it

say we

put it stop it in oh it doesn't make S

lower it it's like really low so maybe

we should fill it in all different

ranges like oh so it'll go ding ding

ding ding okay different so you want to

try it sure

okay so this will be to the top or sure

we'll go from highest to lest so I'll

compare mine to okay wait let's see what

sound it makes so we can know oh it's

kind of high so we should make this one

less water because less water makes

little

s wait are you sure because remember

when we tried without anything in it it

was very high all right

wait yeah so the more water it has the

lower it is yeah when you hit it the

vibrations have to travel through more

water

than so sound is actually when it makes

the air molecules vibrate and then it

keeps vibrating vibrating until it

reaches your ear and it vibrates the

eard Drome

circles instead of the sound moving the

air molecules it's moving the water

molecules and it's moving to the water

yeah so like we're talking right now air

is probably moving and we can't even see

it so it's kind of like the same thing

you want to try to match it to the scale

we want to make them sound

me it's a little long it doesn't sound

happens that kind that's kind of sounds

duller but it's the same note this one

just sounds high so let's just yeah

take a little water out it would be a

little higher you know if you do it

only problem was the high note we

emptied the glass and it's still not

high enough so there wasn't anything we

could do it might have taken us less

time if we had a piano nearby to help us

tune it out you can play all kinds of

other songs too now it's time for you to

experiment think of a question that you

unanswered like what would happen with a

differ Siz glass or a different type of

liquid make a prediction then change one

thing that's the variable and test it

out when you're done send your reports
