In the '80s, my parents came
from the philippines
To america
to find a better life.
In my family,
there's a lot of music,
Especially in filipino parties.
There would be a lot of karaoke,
All the family and friends
would be singing along.
That was really influential
with me getting into music.
As an artist, I like r&b.
When I was little,
I would always try and lip-sync
justin timberlake.
I think the coaches
would be surprised
To turn around
and see a nerdy asian guy.

Outside of music,
I really love science, too.
My biology teacher made me want

I'm 26,
and I'm from washington, d.c.
I started playing guitar
when I was 14,
But after a while,
I really wanted to focus more
on my voice.
Paul didn't always have
a good voice.

And then, one day
in high school, he just said,
"I'm gonna sing
at the senior show-showcase."
And we were like, "what?"
How is everybody?
Started playing the song.
Sang the first verse,
sang the chorus.
Went in to go
to the second verse...

It was pretty embarrassing.
But afterwards, everyone was
like, "man, your voice is great.

So it turned out
to be a positive.
When I was in college,
I majored in economics.
But the focus was always
On being a musician
when I got out of school.
After I graduated, I toured
the country playing colleges,
Earning a living making music.
I've always been
a big maroon 5 fan.
Adam has been a hug influence
on my music.
When I was 17,
I had an opportunity
to go backstage and meet adam.

chickened out.
