Daly: Tonight, they continue their quest

to discover and develop
the next great voice.

I want to make you the
best singer you can be.

Daly: And the artists are
determined to make a team.

This is probably one of the biggest things
I've ever done, and I'm ready to do this.

audition for "The Voice. "

The blind auditions
are very exciting to me

because I get a chance to
judge simply by the voice.

Daly: The blind auditions
continue right now.

As our coaches make
their way to the stage,

the first artist of
the day, Adriana Louise,

is hoping she has what it takes
to fill one of those spots.

Adriana: I've been waitressing,

bartending in New York
just to pay the bills

while singing and maybe
gigging here and there.

- Hi. It's so nice to meet you.
- Nice to meet you.

- Welcome. How you doing, brother?

What does music mean to you?

Music is my world.

I feel like music saved my life.

When I was 9 years old,

my family and I went
through a horrible tragedy.

One day, my dad was
closing up his store,

and this g*ng grabbed him,
and, basically, their plan

was to get my father to open up a safe,

but he was not cooperating with them.

So they came to our house
and held us at gunpoint.

My uncle happened to be on the block

and saw my mother walking out
with these two strange men,

called 911.

The cops pulled over
the car, rescued her.

We finally got reunited,
and that was, by far

one of
the best moments of my life.

Oh, God.

- How old were you?
- I was 9.

I'm so sorry to hear that.
That must have been just brutal.

- It was.
- Right.

After that incident,

the only thing that made
me happy was my music.

It entirely got me
through that situation.

I've wanted this for so long,

and the fact that this competition

is with such amazing
artists is kind of incredible

and an opportunity that
does not come along at all

in this industry.

Singing is my life,
and music is my life,

and the one thing that you
can never take away from me

is my voice.

It's kind of funny how
people think it's a nickname,

but it's actually my
last name, and I have...

I mean, I can't take credit for it.

My parents gave it to me, so...

Throughout my life, I've
had two strong passions,

and it's easily been
music and wrestling.

Being a wrestler is what's
made me a great artist.

It's pushed me, and
knowing my physical limits

has helped me push my musical limits.

I don't get a lot of opportunities

to perform in Iowa, so
coming out here is...

What are you doing with
school? Are you in school?

Yeah, actually, I wrestle, and
I brought you a few pictures.

There's me kicking some guy's tail.

So, is there an aspiration
for professional wrestling?

You know, when I went back to school,

I pretty much put music on a back burner

just so I could compete
again, collegiately,

and I got hurt.

When I went off to college
and I was wrestling,

my knee got caught and just... pfft!

You just hear it pop,
and it just deflated me.

- Ended up tearing my meniscus.
- Oh, my gosh.

It was just painful for me
to see how much I had slid.

I gained 100 pounds,
and I weighed 370 pounds.

And my life was pretty
much just in shambles.

So God gave me the strength and
pushed me back towards music,

and, literally, I pulled
an 180-degree turnaround.

I found myself. You
know, I lost 100 pounds.

So I went through some rough times,

but I couldn't be happier
with where I am today.

I want to prove to everybody out there

that I've got what it takes.

I've got the heart, I've got the voice,

and I've got the talent,
and I got the work ethic.

I just want an opportunity.

Like, it was more like of a fusion,

so it didn't seem like one thing.

And I'm not just one
thing, so it interests me.

Aquile: Hi. My name's Aquile.

I'm 24 years old, and
I'm from San Diego.

I'm a full-time musician. I
gig four to five times a week.

I grew up in Wyoming in mostly a
white community of 3,000 people.

I am biracial. My mom
is white. My dad's black.

I had a lot of people that
loved me in the community

and there's also people that
had their own opinions of me

without really knowing me.

That kind of helped develop
me as a person, really.

- You play any instruments?
- I play the guitar.

I learned to play when I
was... got my jaw broken.

- You got your jaw broken?
- Yeah.

When I was 19, I was punched in the jaw.

I had my mouth wired
shut for about six weeks.

Was that a big setback for you?

I thought it would be,

but it turned out to
be an amazing blessing.

You learned the guitar.
Did you do any gigs?

I did. I played... I
played a couple of gigs

- with my mouth wired shut.
- That's happened before.

I want to work with a coach

because they've done it all before.

They're currently in the

experience, just not onstage.

How are you?

Ryan: I'm a co-production
coordinator for Leann Rimes.

I stock the bus with water and food.

I load the production
office in, set up the stage.

Taking care of Leann, of
course, is my first and foremost.

And it's really an awesome
experience to be a part of.



Ryan: The way Leann found
out that I was a singer

was because we've all
been out to karaoke.

I started singing, and
the next thing I knew,

I saw Leann right by the side
of the stage, just watching.

Leann: I was blown away. I really was.

I'd never heard him sing before,

and it's not something he
ever really talked about.

But he's gifted, for sure.

I think Ryan is perfect for "The Voice"

because they're looking for
someone who can actually sing,

so I think Ryan fits that very well.

And he's the cutest thing in the
world, so I love him to death.

Ryan: Having Leann tell me that
I was a good singer was amazing,

but to have the four coaches
on the panel say the same thing

would be incredible.

This is beyond the moment of my life.

- It's probably one of the biggest things I've ever done.

and I know I'm a karaoke singer,

an artist who never
thought he'd have the chance

to sing on "The Voice" stage.

Mackenzie: The doctors
found out I had a virus

that shuts down all of your organs,

and that led to me having
congestive heart failure

and acute respiratory failure.

With season three, our
coaches have high expectations,

and many artists were not
able to get a chair to turn.

It's just not at that place yet.

Christina: You left a
lot of gaps in the song.

We were kind of like,
"okay. Where's the singing?"

♪ I'm just gonna sit
on the dock of the bay ♪

Were you a little bit nervous?

Oh, this... this is my first gig.

This is the best first gig
anybody could ever have, dude.

Daly: Let's see if our next
artist, 19-year-old Mackenzie Bourg,

who's fought hard to make
it to "The Voice" stage,

can impress our coaches.

- I understand it's been a tough year for you.
- Yeah.

Tell me a little bit about it.

Uh, about a year and
a half, two years ago,

I contracted a virus that
shut down all my organs.

Mackenzie: I had started
to get bad headaches

over a couple days,

so I checked into the
urgent-care center.

They first said I had bronchitis,

but there was so many
toxins around my heart

that it caused it to fail.

Turns out I had viral myocarditis.

I was put into an induced coma

on a ventilator and a feeding tube.

I was watching my son
literally just passing away.

I can't even des... what was that like?

The whole experience

was the scariest thing
that I've ever been through.

The scariest thing.

The amazing thing about
it was he made a promise

that he would wake up
for Super Bowl Sunday,

and, uh, he woke up the night before.

And that's when we looked
up all the audition dates,

- was right after
the game. - Uh-huh.

And that's how we decided

- we were gonna go try out for "The Voice. "
- That's great.

Right now, my heart is
better, for the most part.

It was a miracle that everything
happened the way it did.

Mackenzie, where was music
in all of this for you?

It helped me, like,
cope with everything.

Like, that's when I first began

to, like, really get
serious with writing music.

Now I have a passion for sharing
my gift with other people.

I know if that experience
wouldn't have happened,

I wouldn't be here, 'cause I would have

never taken the chances
that got me to be here.

I just know that too many people
take waking up every morning,

breathing every morning,
they take that for granted.

I would have been one of
those people, but not anymore.

If I get a chair to turn around,

it would make all this mean something.

It would just give worth

to something that I've put so
much effort into at this point.
