I have the flu and my temperature is hot

I'm Hana and I'm from Los Angeles

California music is important in

someone's life it brings a part of you

out instead of like for people who don't

really like to speak a lot to play

different instruments and I don't love

to speak a lot and so I play instruments

and it kind of brings myself out and

people who I

am one reason I joined this Tao group

was because of my Japanese culture I'm

half Japanese so I wanted to learn more

and be exposed to my Japanese

side the word Tao means big sound or

drum in

Japanese this is one of the

drums that we play it's called a chudo

which is Middle drum and it's made out

of Co hide here and a hollow tree

trunk it's a really big sound kids first

join the group ages seven and up and it

takes about 2 years to be able to

perform they usually start out with this

drum it's called shime and it means

little drum and it keeps the beat for

the rest of the

people the reason why we stare Straight

Ahead we kind of stare past the wall to

keep our concentration and keeps us

focused and able to hit the

drums during the performance a lot of

the drummers say say things like H and S

and that's to cheer them

on

sh these drums are very hard to play you

have to have nice movements and you have

to look good

and you just hit it as hard as you

can a long time ago Tao was only played

by men or boys and girls weren't allowed

to play cuz they were thought of as kind

a

week it's great that girls can show

their strength and ability and they're

just like the guys they can play just as

hard or even harder

sometimes well when I play the drums I

feel strong and excited it gets me

excited and since it's with a group we

all kind of cheer each other on and it

makes me feel a part of everyone and

Pennsylvania sent us directions on how

to make a super sounding drum that makes

a Super Sound here's what you'll need to

make one

container clear plastic shrink wrap

that's used to insulate Windows it comes

with double stick tape you can find this

at a hardware store or you can use

regular plastic

wrap masking tape and a blow

dryer first pick a container that you

like syvia says that larger containers

make better sound I don't know what she

means by better if she means deeper or

just louder

sounding okay first then take your

double stick tape and wrap it all the

way around the container about 2 in from

the top need help yes I do because I

can't get it to stick oh got it but I

you're going to need hold the bowl still

there it's going

around it's staying on it's hard to it's

kind of hard to get it to go all that

straight but it doesn't need to be

perfectly

straight almost there almost on the

B that's the white thing yeah that we

just have to PE peel that off that

way there and right peel this thing

off oh it's kind of hard to

tear okay

here that's all

over

okay then cut one piece of plastic

shrink wrap just large enough to go

around the just yeah large enough to go

around the

bowl oh yeah it's yeah it's there it's

there and then you push you push it onto

the tape and then you take masking

tape and you put it all around the

edges of the container so that it's

really secure twice yeah twice

together one and

two it ends right there I think

yeah this is this one's really easy to

cut yeah okay okay now take your blow

dryer set on hot and blow dry the shrink

wrap it will shrink the plastic so that

way it's nice and tight can I try it

sure and also you don't want to put the

BL too close to the plastic WP that will

mount it turn hot so low or high

high

think that's enough a little bit

more that blow dry is getting kind of

hot

okay know that's nice

to

spoon oh it does make a nice sound it's

really

deep let's check out some other

containers that we made

earlier see

here's one made out of

a oats bottle

container this is one made out of a tin

bowl and here are two coffee tins that

are different

sizes let's see which one makes the

highest sound

okay we tried that that's pretty low wow

that's even

lower that's high that's

high I think

wow this is high that's I think this

one's the highest because it's maybe

it's um since it's well tallest so the

Vibra the tallest so the vibration goes

right through the the whole thing and

then it comes right back up yeah because

I think longer vibrations are higher and

that and this one's pretty short and so

are this and so is this one this one's

the like kind of yeah this one's the

lowest so that's why it's so low but I

think it should go in like this or this

this this this and this but also I think

this one's the best sounding because

it's really deep and also it's you can

hear it loudly it's deep and loud so can

you make a drum with a really deep sound

test it out with your own containers at

home and then send your reports to zoom

be sure to write down what materials you

used and anything you learned from your

experiment
