make a maze using recycled materials you

find around your house

pizza box maze was sent to us by kevin t

of fort benning georgia and this is what

you'll need

a pizza box some marbles

tape and some cardboard tubes

first cut off the top of the pizza box

then start taping down tubes to make a

maze

a bit too long

okay so i'll just take a piece of tape

here

i wonder what kind of pizza was in this

in diagonals

so i think this one looks good

oh that would be hard

and then here yeah right there

so

you can make any design you want you

could even cut holes in the sides to

make doors so

with your maze

put on your marble and tilt it around

and try to get to the finish

or rearrange them any way you want to

make the maze

what other people throw away we use for

materials

we like to find stuff and tear it up and

use it in other ways

and we invent things yes

our first project was to build a

communicator like the one that e.t

used to phone home in the movie e.t

if you remember from the movie e.t was

an alien stranded on earth

so he had to build a communication

device

first thing we had to do is we had to

watch the movie several times

to just figure out what he used

a lot of the building process isn't

shown in the movie

we had to take a look at the whole thing

fit together

what different parts of it we're doing

we knew from the movie

that the speaking spell was one of the

keys to sending the message

i think we need the sledgehammer slot

right away here

i had to find out the code

for our message which was h-e-l-p

or help instead of pressing a key on the

keyboard

the turntable turns when two wires

cross another wire it makes a connection

that goes back here to the ribbon cable

and that's the same as pressing a key on

here

sometimes you just have to be creative

this is what we're working on now this

is mr robot

we're gonna take him to robot wars robot

wars is a competition in san francisco

featuring

remote controlled robots in combat

we're using drills to make the robot

move because they're fast

and they're powerful right now our robot

is just a big mean remote control car

so when we press a button

the drills give it a lot of torque

i like inventing because there's always

hundreds of different ways to solve a

problem

bubbles out of household stuff

we're going to see if we can make square

take a small piece of paper fold it in

half and balance it

remember when we asked you to try to

grow different types of mold using

different types of food

well luke and sebastian k of chappaqua

new york decided that both light and

water

might be important to grow mold to test

their ideas

they each set up two bags one with bread

sprinkled with just a little water

and one with bread soaked with water

luke put his bags in the light and

sebastian put his in the dark

on day one nothing happened on day two

luke saw a little mold on both of his

pieces of bread that were in the light

it wasn't until day four that

sebastian's bread finally began to grow

a little mold

their experiment ended on day six when

they decided that luke's bread

left in the light grew more mold than

sebastian's bread that was in the dark

and that the bread that was soaked in

water grew less mold than the bread

sprinkled with water

test your own ideas about what makes

mold grow and send your results to zoom

situation where

they wanted to speak out i guess but

they weren't really sure if it was gonna

work okay and it wasn't gonna like go

like speaking out like when someone did

yeah i had um a time a couple of years

ago in school

where we were all taking a test and my

teacher thought that one of my friends

was talking and she really wasn't

so he got mad and he took her test and

he wouldn't give it back to her and he

said

he's gonna like um he's just gonna give

her the grade of it

like how it was now when she wasn't

finished she got upset she didn't want a

bad grade

and so afterwards me and my friend me

and my other friend

who had seen it all stayed behind and we

said we saw her and she wasn't talking

so we spoke out about that i have

something

kind of similar to releases where um

you know how you guys have those timed

ones like you have one minute to finish

this paper

you know 20 questions and all right and

you know we did the test and then she

said okay put the pencils down

and she reviewed everything she said

okay column one you know

and then she went to one's problem like

say i was seven

plus five she said oh and the answer to

number three is eleven and we like uh

that

and she goes no don't talk i need to do

this quickly we need to go on

so like okay and so then after the test

we're like

excuse me this is very important rob you

uh yeah do you guys think it's easier to

speak

out to kids your own age or grown-ups

i think it's easier to speak to

grown-ups because kids will give you

peer pressure and give you

nasty looks and grown-ups are too much

like that i think it's easier to talk to

like to grow naps

because they help you like kids they

don't really help you that much

well if they're like you're really good

friends i think it's almost like the

same as adults

but even if they're just like friends

for a small amount of time they could

still like snap at you or something yeah

like someone

just wants to snap at you like sometimes

i wouldn't even tell myself the kids

because like

yeah say you get mad at that kid and

then they get mad and you've already

told them your business and they're like

well so what i'm not the one with the

blah blah blah blah i was like yeah yeah

i was younger um i think when you're

younger you're a lot more shy

you don't end better yeah and sometimes

like now

now i'm not that sh i'm not shy that

much like i talk to like the waiters and

waitresses and everything

but when i was younger i'd be like mommy

can you order for me you guys ever think

it's good like

not to speak out and yeah it hurts

sometimes

it isn't sometimes i mean sometimes you

may get the wrong idea about yeah yeah

like yeah you shouldn't jump to

conclusions and there are also times

maybe like your friend is sick

and they ask like am i feeling any

better and if they're not i mean

am i looking any better and if they're

really not then you wouldn't say

no i would like if they want your

true true opinion then you speak on you

though

no people ask me for the truth

well one time i was at camp and

every once in a while we'd sneak out and

one time me and my friends were like

just playing cards and they my friend my

other friends who we usually snuck out

with

went out but they didn't come back like

until the morning

so when the counselor asked me and my

friend where they were

we were like uh uh and we figured since

we always used to do it

it wasn't right to speak out so we

didn't but

i think now maybe i should have

yeah guilty yeah i mean do your friends

still do it or have they like learned a

lesson

i think they learn their lesson
