Eddie: Tim, put out an a.P.B.

On Louis varig, right now.

- Anything for me?
- No. It's an a.P.B.

From the fourth precinct.

Oh, yeah?

What's the name?

Varig, Louis.

Says here he was involved

in a homicide
that just happened.

[Dramatic music playing]

Ricciarelli: Yeah, lieutenant.
We're just wrappin' up here.

- What can I do for you?
- Rutger: We got an I.D.

- On the body yet?
- Wong's running prints.

- We'll have a name any minute.
- What about effects?

- You check his pockets?
- Yeah.

No I.D., nothing. Not
even a set of keys.

[Phone rings]

Detective ricciarelli.

[Suspenseful music playing]

[Ominous music playing]

[Laughs]

- Ricciarelli: J.C.?
- Yo?

Vic's name was sal tirello.

And get this: He was a cop.

Damn it...

Ed was right.

We've gotta call
internal affairs on this.

Somebody at internal
affairs already knows.

Some lieutenant
showed up on the scene...

A guy named rutger.

What would I.A. Be
doin' at the crime scene?

- How would he know?
- What's wrong?

- Who you calling?
- I'm calling his department.

This guy rutger
had to be in on this.

Yes. This is detective
Williams from the fourth,

is your lieutenant in?

No? Um, can you do me a favor,

can you give me
his home address?

It's very important.

Uh-huh. Thank you very much.

Do me a favor, call
ed on his cell phone,

have him meet
me at that address.

You got it. Anything else?

Call me in my car as
soon as you contact ed.

Eddie: Got you,
reech, I'm there now.

[Dramatic music playing]

[Door creaks open]

[Grunts]

Put your g*n down, Louie.

- I'm taking you in.
- Back up, Eddie.

I'm warning you. Back up!

What are you gonna do?

You gonna sh**t me?

Like you shot that other guy?

I had to sh**t him.

He came after me.
You understand that?

Yeah. Just like you had
to set-up your best friend?

What? You were like
hangin' for 40 years, right?

Was that all a lie?

Louie: That's no lie.

I love him.

I didn't want to
get him involved.

Then do the right thing.

- You say you love him?
- Yes! I love him.

Eddie: Put down your g*n.

Come on, uncle Louie.

I'm begging you.

Put the g*n down.

Louie: Sorry. Sorry.

- I love him.
- Eddie: It's all right.

- It's not too late.
- Louie: I'm sorry!

- It's not...
- Rutger: Wrong, detective.

It's much, much too late.

- No!
- [g*nsh*t]

[Grunts]

- Are you all right?
- Yeah. Yeah.

Go get him. Go get him.

- Go get him!
- All right.

I'll be back.

[Suspenseful music playing]

[Jazz music playing]

I'm on west 25th street.

I need e.M.S. Unit
right away, all right?

[Groans]

Freeze!

[Suspenseful music playing]

Now, put your
hands on your head,

and turn around.

You know the routine.

[Grunting]

Eddie: You're not
gonna get away with this.

The department won't let you.

- I am the department.
- J.C.: Drop it!

Now!

[Screams]

J.c.: You okay?

Yeah.

We gotta get down to the loft.

Louie got shot.

I know.

I was just there.

I'm sorry, ed.

Man...

[Gentle music playing]

Cooper: Keep in
touch, thank you.

Thank you.

Well, the D.A.'s releasing your
father, pending an investigation.

If I were you, I wouldn't
worry about it too much.

They're more than
certain that this varig

is the one who's playin'
with the dirty cops.

So rutger and tirello were
definitely involved, huh?

[Sighs] Apparently so.

You know, the really
sad part about this is?

I used to know them.

They were good cops.

Lieutenant...

I'm sorry.

I mean, I know I screwed up.

And I just wanted to
apologize to you, formally.

As my superior.

Well, as your superior,

I accept your apology, formally.

Oh, since you were
taken off this case,

I don't suppose
you'll be helpin' me

with these reports
now, will you?

Ah...

Maybe I'll help you out.

Maybe I'll let you
use my stapler.

Funny, I just told my son

I was gonna be
bringing mine back.

Ah, don't even sweat it.

I was just giving
you a hard time.

See, if rutger had a
partner like you, man,

he would've never been slipping.

Go see your pops.

[Dramatic music playing]

Louie's dead, pop.

He was k*lled by
one of the bad cops

he was working with.

Maybe I should
say I'm happy, right?

My best friend,
and he sets me up.

I was there when he died.

He was gonna turn himself in.

But instead he
took a b*llet for me.

Come on.

- Gate!
- [Gate buzzes]

Mike: Forty-two years. Heh.

- And all of your life.
- [Gate buzzes]

It wasn't just yesterday he
was standing over your crib,

trying to get you
to say, tio.Heh.

Eddie: Yeah. It was
the past, huh, pop?

It wasn't all bad.

Remember that.
