It's when you add dry ice to clouds
to change the weather.

I've read about cloud seeding
and I don't think it would stop a tornado.

I know! What if we cover the tornado
in a giant geodesic dome?

The design is fierce.

Those are fab-tastic feats of engineering.

But what if the tornado lifts up
the dome and blows it away?

Maybe we need to think outside the dome.

If we can't stop the tornado,
maybe we can chase it instead.

about scientists who study tornados.

If we can track it,
then maybe we can help Rosie's Mom

figure out a way to fly around it.

Then my mom can
spread the word to other pilots,

so Jiu Jitsu Joe's mom and the guests
can make it to the wedding.

so she knows about the weather.

how do you track the weather?

Nobody ever asks how I track the weather.

-It is my passion!

I use all sorts of cool devices
to follow the weather.

Doppler radars, satellites,

and my personal favorite,
weather balloons.

-[gasps] Balloons are my passion.
-Oh, Gosh. Aren't they the best?

Okay, first I inflate a big balloon.
Then, I tie a parachute to radiosondes,

and attach them
to the balloon and let it fly.

You attach radios? Like a boom box?

Close, but not quite.

Radiosondes are tiny gizmos

that measure pressure,
temperature, and humidity.

And all that info is
sent to us on the ground by radio.

Fascinating.

So, if we made our own radiosondes,
could we build a weather balloon?

Ding-ding-ding. Correct!

You'd just need a little camera,
some radio parts, and a GPS tracker.

I'd be there, chasing the twister
if I could, but the lovebirds need me.

That's okay. We're scientists,

so we'll chase the storm.
