A NETFLIX SERIES

How, what, where, why?

What, where, why?

How, what, where, why?

What, where, why?

Ada Twist, scientist

She's gonna find out what the answer is

Under here, over there

Science is everywhere you look

With Iggy Peck, architect

And Rosie Revere, engineer

So much to do

And you can help too

A mystery, a riddle, a puzzle, or a quest

There are wonders to discover
And hypotheses to test

Science is the best

Ada Twist, scientist

She's gonna find out what the answer is

Everywhere science is

She's forming a hypothesis

Connecting polka dots
'Cause this is scientist Ada Twist

"Ghost Busted."

That goes right there,
and this goes right here,

and ta-da, a crescent moon.

Out-of-this-world design, Iggy.
It goes perfectly with my moon nightlight.

Pretty.

Oh, I brought something too.
My dino-snore machine.

"Dino-snore machine?"

The soothing sound
of dino snores helps me fall asleep.

Whoa.

My ears!

But maybe T-Rex snores
aren't the best for sleepovers.

This isn't just any sleepover,

it's our first one in this house.

My dad used to have the best sleepovers
here when he was a kid. Right, Dad?

Yes. My friends and I had epic hangs here.

We'd play games like ping-pong,
eat yummy snacks, and tell spooky stories.

What kinds of spooky stories?

Oh, like the one about
the Boogeyman of Broadway.

I love that one.

I don't think we'll sleep
if we tell spooky stories, right?

And sleep is kind of a big part
of a sleepover. It's in the name.

We'll save it for another time then,
like over waffles tomorrow morning.

So what should we do first?

Oh, right, this is your sleepover.

I'll just go read or something.

-Good night.
-Thanks!

Okay. Come get me if you wanna play--

If you need anything.

Have fun and get some sleep.

Okay, Dad.

So what should we do
to make this the funnest,

most unforgettable sleepover ever?

Why don't we do something
your dad used to do?

Eat yummy snacks?

Way ahead of ya. Catch.

That is a yummy snack.

But we should play a game too,
like ping-pong.

Love that idea.

Let me just limber up first.

No way. No ping-pong.

What? Why?

Come on. I'm all warmed up.

We can't play.

Dad's old ping-pong table
is in the basement.

-Why can't we go in the basement?
-It's haunted. There's a ghost.

Haunted?

Really? Tell me everything.

What's it look like?
What's its name? How tall is it?

You talk to it?
Can it float through walls?

Does it go, "Boo"?

Oh, I haven't exactly
talked to it or seen it

'cause I've never actually
gone down to the basement.

What? Why?

It's too spooky.

Then how do you know it's there?

Sometimes, I see the lights
flicker on and off,

and then a scary voice says,

"Howler's hungry."

The ghost's name is Howler? Cute.

It seems we don't have enough evidence
to know that the basement's haunted.

Phooey. So there's no ghost.

I'm not saying that.

Sometimes, things that seem spooky
have logical explanations.

I know what to do.

Something super safe and not scary?

No. Find out
if there's a ghost in the basement.

I was afraid you'd say that.

I think it's time
to haunt our brains with ideas.

We need a brainstorm.

What if we invite a ghost over?

It can go to the basement
and tell us if there's another one there.

But then there would be two ghosts.

Iggy's right.

Two ghosts could be a problem
'cause they might not get along.

You don't want ghost drama
in your house. Trust me.

What we need is a way
to see ghosts even when they're invisible.

We should make ghost goggles.

I've always wanted my own pair.

Sounds amazing. How do we make 'em?

Based on what
I've learned from ghost research,

we'd need aluminum,
glass, and purple space gas.

We'd just have to fly
through the galaxy to find some.

I think our sleepover
would be over by the time we got back.

What if you design a ghost-sucker-upper

that sucks up the ghost
and traps it there forever?

That's not very nice.
We don't support ghost cruelty here.

I didn't think about that.

I don't want to hurt anyone, even a ghost.

We need to tackle this
with the scientific method.

Scientific method

We have an observation

So we'll start with a question

-Do research.
-Form a hypothesis.

And test with experiments

What do we find out?

Let’s draw a conclusion

Write it all down
And pass around the results

That's the scientific method

Iggy's observed spooky things
coming from the basement.

And we have our question,
"Is a ghost causing the spookiness?"

So next, research.

I know tons about ghosts.

According to legends,

ghosts make the temperature really cold,

show up in photos as ba*ls of white light,

make electricity go bonkers,

and if you smell something weird,
there's probably a ghost.

Excellent ghost research, Rosie.
I think I have a hypothesis.

If we build a device
based on what we know about them,

we'll be able to tell
if one's in the basement.

Yeah. We could call the device,
"The Spooky Scanner."

It sounds scary, but also kinda cool.

And it's ghost-friendly.

Loading the lab.

We can use this thermometer
to see if the air gets really cold.

And this old baby monitor
will help us listen for weird noises.

And if we hear anything,

we'll click this
so the basement camera will take a photo.

-Maybe it'll take a picture of the ghost.
-We'll be ghost photographers.

Fa-boo-lous.

Now let's build this thing.

Now we just have to put the Spooky Scanner
down there to collect evidence.

This is not
how I pictured this sleepover going.

All right, let's ghost.

I mean, let's go.

This seems like a good place.

It's chilly down here,

but not ghostly cold,
more like sweater weather.

Howler's hungry.

The ghost.

-Iggy.
-What was that?

I don't know, but I'm out of here.

See? I told you it's haunted.

Oh, I know. Best night of my life.

That was spooky,

but we don't have enough evidence
to prove it's a ghost.

-The baby monitor.
-What's that?

Howler's hungry.

See? Howler's hungry.

I'm too young to be ghost grub!

Smile for the camera, Howler.

I hope we got a picture of him.

Let's go collect our evidence.

We have to go back there?

-Yep.
-Yeah.

Fine. For science.

Is it just me
or did it get a lot colder down here?

And a lot foggier.

It's not you.

-This basement is officially ghostly cold.
-Let's check the camera.

A ball of white light, like a ghost.

What's that smell?

-Garlic.
-Garlic.

Weird smells. There is a ghost down here.

Whoa there. What's the matter, kiddos?

-Basement's haunted.
-Very haunted.

There's a ghost down there
and even I got a little spooked.

A ghost?

We have all the evidence to prove it.

-Look. A blurry white ball of light.
-And it's so cold.

And the electricity is going bonkers.

-We smell garlic.
-The ghost's name is Howler.

Howler?
Oh, that must have been really spooky.

I think I have an explanation,

and it doesn't involve a ghost. Follow me.

There's a bad fuse here I need to fix.

That's why the electricity's been wacky.

-Howler's hungry.
-A ghost.

It's okay, kiddos. Look around.

-Wow.
-Wow.

This is where
my friends and I used to hang out.

We loved playing
the games in here, like this.

It's called Howler's Hungry.

Wait, Howler's not a ghost,
it's a video game?

Yeah.

Someone must have
knocked over this cooler.

That's why it's so cold and foggy.

I think that was me.

Look, the camera took a picture
of a ping-pong ball, not a ghost.

The garlic smell was garlic.

Oopsies.

Our hypothesis was so wrong.

Phooey. There's no ghost down here.

Some of the evidence
just made it look like there was.

I've got a new theory,
the Ghost in the Basement Theory.

Gathering evidence
without looking at all of it

can lead to false conclusions.

That's a very smart theory.

Now that you know it's not haunted,
I guess I'll leave you.

Dad, wanna play games?

Really? You bet I do.

-So close.
-Come on.

-Move. What?
-Howler's hungry!

-Yes.
-Fab-tastic hit.

Wait, I did it? I won?

Way to go, bud.

You're gonna beat my high score.

I gotta say,
even though I didn't meet a ghost,

this is still the best sleepover ever.

Oh yeah. It's one we'll definitely
remember forever and ever.

I guess our first sleepover
in this house was pretty epic.

And now I'm not scared of the basement.

-Howler's hungry.
-I'll get used to that eventually.

"A Cold-Blooded Complication."

Yeah!

I'm so close to winning.

-Go Rosie!
-Nice jump.

Okay, it's down to Rosie and Iggy,

playing for
the once-in-a-lifetime chance to win--

Cotton candy.

Isn't it for a chance
to watch Lil' Liz overnight

when Arthur's at his tennis tournament?

No, I mean, look at all that cotton candy!

Are you having giants over
for a party, Mr. T?

Totally makes sense.
They have a huge sweet tooth.

Can I come? That cotton candy looks good.

Whoa there, Rosie.
This is fiberglass, not cotton candy.

It's insulation to keep the garage warm.

Wanna know how it works? Insulation's--

Do you want a once-in-a-lifetime chance
to watch Liz or not?

Cool. Insulation's cool.

You're up, Iggy.

I'm nervous.

Don't sweat it.
Make sure your knees are high.

Focus on the square and str--

My jacket!

Yikes.

Sorry. I know that's your favorite jacket.

Oh man. It's ruined.
I guess I gotta throw it away now.

Maybe you can make it into something else.

Scientists find new uses
for old stuff all the time.

You can make a denim racket bag.

-A top hat for magic tricks.
-A hammock for Lil' Liz.

Now that I could get behind.

But I just want my jacket.

I'm gonna play with Lil' Liz.
She always makes me feel better.

I feel Arthur's pain.

I was super-duper bummed when
I got a hole in my favorite unicorn shirt.

I remember. We had to have
three dance parties to cheer you up.

Lil' Liz!

-What's wrong?
-Lil' Liz's blinks per second is way off.

She should've eaten her bugs and berries,

and she's moving really slow.

Step aside. I speak lizard.

That's lizard for, "What's wrong?"

Weird. She's usually so talkative.

This is--

A mystery, a riddle, a puzzle, or a quest

When I don't know the answer
To a question or a query

Why? Why? Why? Why?

My curiosity leads to discovery

Why? Why? Why? Why?

We're ready to go, the g*ng's all here

Another adventure with the Questioneers

-Don't know what we'll find
-But it's fun to try

That's why I

Ask why!

We need to get answers with science.

To the lab, stat.

Lil' Liz is gonna be okay. Right, Mooshu?

Loading the lab.

What's first?

When I'm at the doc,
they check my weight and temperature--

And give you a lollipop.

Lil' Liz can't eat lollipops.

-Let's check her weight.
-I'll get a scale.

-She's a healthy weight.
-I'll check her temperature.

She's cold.

Are lizards supposed to be cold?

Well, they're ectothermic,
which means they're cold-blooded.

Warm-blooded animals like us
can regulate body temperature,

but cold-blooded animals
like lizards, turtles, and bees can't.

When we get cold,
our bodies shiver to warm us up.

When we're hot, we sweat to cool down.

Mind blown.

Lizards can't.

If she can't heat herself up,
how can she get warm?

Is she gonna be okay?

She can be cold for a while.

She has to get warm
from heat sources like the sun

or the light bulb in her terrarium.

I think we connected the polka dots.
Let's get Arthur.

-Figure out what's wrong Doc? I mean, Ada.
-She's cold.

The light in her terrarium
that keeps her warm is out.

That's why she's not eating or playing.

Or talking.

That's it? I have another bulb in my room.

Be right back.

I had another bulb. I'm all out.
And the pet store is closed.

How are we gonna get Lil' Liz warm?

We've got a plan B. Brainstorm.

I have an idea. When I work out
with my mom, I get really hot.

We could design a mini gym for Lil' Liz.

That's not gonna work.

Lizards' hands and feet are like
suction cups. Stuff's gonna stick to them.

And cold-blooded animals
can't regulate heat inside their bodies.

What if we make Lil' Liz a warm bowl
of cricket noodle soup with berries?

Liz only eats live insects,
and she doesn't like warm fruit.

I got it! We could use dragon breath
to heat a hot tub for her.

They have a lot of free time in the fall.
It's their off-season.

Dragon breath is probably too hot.

Definitely.

Yeah, true.

What about a way to use hot water
to warm her without getting her too hot?

Be right back.

Boom! Heating pad.

You pour warm water in, it heats it up.

Those only stay warm
for 20 minutes, right?

And we need to keep Lil' Liz warm
until the pet store opens tomorrow.

Snap, you're right.

If your dad's pink fiberglass
wasn't off-limits,

we could wrap her
in that to keep her warm.

You're onto something.

He's using the fiberglass
to insulate the garage,

so maybe we could insulate
Lil' Liz's terrarium.

Let's ask what else we can use.

Insulation is cool.
Here's what you need to know.

Heat flows from warm to cold.

Insulation slows the flow,
and that's how places stay warm.

A lot of things can be used as insulators,

it just has to trap air
and hold together in humidity.

That's water in the air.

Right. Insulation's cool, right?

Or should I say warm?

I love insulation and dad jokes.

She meant to say "cool" dad jokes.

Let's run some tests
to find the right insulation.

Insulation simulations?

Fab-tastic idea. What about cotton candy?

It looks like fiberglass,
but we can touch it.

-Plus, delicious.
-Great idea. Let's test it.

While you test,
I'm gonna get Lil Liz's Lizard Lounge.

Be right back, girl.

Let's find out
if cotton candy will trap air

and hold together in humid conditions.

So let's test it
with something warm and wet.

-We could fill a beaker with warm water.
-Then wrap it with the test insulator.

I'll test the temperature
at the beginning and end

to see if the water stays warm.
Let's get our materials.

Cotton candy's yum.

I mean, done.

Starting temperature warm.

No air's escaping,
so the cotton candy must be trapping it.

-Oh no.
-But it doesn't hold up in humidity,

-so that's a fail.
-Man.

But this fail is still a win.

What if we use aluminum foil?
My mom uses it to keep food warm.

Great idea.

Starting temperature warm.

-No air's escaping.
-Humidity didn't ruin it.

-The water's still warm.
-We're ready to insulate.

First, the heating pad.

Oh my gosh, I think it's working.

I'll add the foil.

Lil' Liz is squinting. A lot.

Maybe the light reflecting off the foil
is too bright for her.

Phooey.

So far, our insulation simulations
are a flop.

I'm gonna set up Lil' Liz's Lounge.

Okay.

Why is it so hard
to find an insulation material

to keep Lil' Liz's terrarium warm?

Whoopsies. Sorry, Ada.

I think I just wrinkled your denim jacket.

Wait, my denim jacket.

It keeps me warm when it's cold,
and doesn't fall apart when it's humid.

So you want
to make Lil' Liz a denim jacket--

I'll get on it. What are you thinking?

Glitter sleeves?
Furry collar? Rhinestone buttons?

We should test denim
as an insulation material,

but we can't cut up my jacket.
I guess it was a good idea.

Here. You can cut mine.

If we can use it to help Liz,
the rip was worth it.

But I can't watch you rip it up anymore.
I'll wait outside.

-Thanks, Arthur.
-Yes!

Starting temperature warm.

-The denim's trapping the air.
-It's holding up in humidity.

Ending temperature still warm.

That's why I love denim.

Let's see if it works.

Denim's a great insulation material.

I heard cheering. Did it work?

Thank you.

The kids made you all better
with science and denim.

Speaking of denim,
what should we do with the leftover bits?

Welcome to the Twist Fashion Show,

featuring denim designs
by Ada Twist, Rosie Revere, and Iggy Peck.

Let's get this party started right.

Oh yeah.

That's it.

-You got it.
-Oh yeah!

Pencils.

Watch out now.

You boys got it,
but Lil' Liz is the real star.

-Look here.
-Yes, Lil' Liz.

-Smile here.
-Over here.

That's the talkative Lil' Liz I know.

These designs are fierce,
fresh, and fabulous.

You were right about
making new things with my old jacket.

Yeah, and denim as insulation is genius.

We could use so much more stuff.
Cotton ba*ls, newspaper--

My old sock-- Okay, maybe not my old sock.

Come on, let's get it.
