"Slow Your Roll."
-Who's ready for some corn-on-the-cob?
-You know I am.
Hot.
Oh man.
It's a flyer
for the Sunset Skate Jam Competition.
It's happening at the park tonight.
-Skate Jam?
-What's that?
Roller skating
and dancing at the same time.
Mom and Dad used to go skating often
back in the dark ages, the '90s.
Oh, the '90s. Back with the dinosaurs.
Okay, we met at one of those
"dark ages" Jam Skating competitions.
Awesome.
-You look so cool.
-Don't we? And so young.
Tell the story. Please?
Okay. It was the final round
of the All-City Skate Jam Contest.
Alright, party people.
Whoa!
Oh, man.
Sorry, boo. And the rest is history.
Awesome.
How'd you learn that whole dance?
-Yeah, it looks so hard.
-Harder than anything I've ever made.
It's easier if you
break it down step by step. Look.
One foot out, step down, roll back.
Now turn, drop it low.
There you go.
-Okay.
-Oh yeah. I'm doing it.
I got it. Don't got it.
It's okay. Took me a long time to learn.
Your dad longer.
Hey, they don't call me
"The Twister" for nothing.
So who won?
-Oh, I did.
-I did.
A tie? Boring. There had to be a winner.
You should enter
tonight's Skate Jam for a rematch.
Yeah! See who the real winner is.
I have my money on Mrs. T.
I'm nervous for you both.
But it's tonight.
We haven't skated in years.
I don't know where our skates are.
Collecting dust.
And who knows what shape they're in?
It would be nice
to dance on eight wheels again though.
It sure would.
Maybe one of these days.
In the meantime,
let's dance these leftovers inside.
Did you see how happy they were
when talking about the Skate Jam?
We have to get them into the contest.
We need to find their skates,
clean them, and convince them to do it.
Sounds like a lot to do by sunset.
We can do it, right Iggy and Rosie?
Yeah!
Let's go find those skates.
I found them!
Oh no, they look horrible.
Your dad was right,
they have been collecting dust.
And all kinds of other stuff.
Well, a rematch was a good idea,
but there's no way
we'll get these skates rolling by sunset.
Scientists don't quit.
I know we can fix these fast,
we just need to dust off our brains
and get into a brainstorm.
Okay. Good luck, kids.
My brain's dusted off.
We could invent a time machine
and go to when your folks were young
and their skates were new.
A time machine could work,
but they're tricky.
What if we went back too far in time?
Dinosaurs would be a ginormous problem.
I know! What if we
sneak into the North Pole
and ask an elf to fix the skates for us?
Awesome.
But would Santa be mad
if an elf was helping us
instead of making toys?
I do not want
to get on Santa's naughty list.
We need to fix these skates fast,
so what if we
hired a cheetah skate pit crew?
The world's fastest land animals
would be the fastest mechanics.
And they have built-in tools, their claws.
How claw-some is that?
What if their claws rip up the skates
instead of fixing them?
That would be claw-ful, not claw-some.
We have to be our own pit crew.
I know we can fix my parents' skates fast.
They need a lot of work.
Where do we even start?
Loading the lab.
I'll take a look.
Very interesting.
So how bad is it?
Okay, let's see.
Both pairs of skates are rusty.
One of your mom's
has a loose plate and a missing wheel,
one of your dad's has a crooked axle,
and both jam plugs are loose.
How long do you think
it'll take to fix all of that?
Well, with parts and labor,
and snack time, it's about a two-day job.
We only have until sunset.
Okay, for you, I can put a rush on it,
but it's all hands on deck.
-We're ready to get our hands dirty.
-How dirty are we talking?
Fine. For science and Ada's parents.
Okay, all we have to do
is take all the skates apart,
fix everything wrong,
and put 'em back together. Easy peasy.
Let's go.
Wow. Look at all these skate parts.
How are we gonna put it all back together?
Don't worry. How hard can it be?
And done.
-Wait.
-I don't think that's right.
Me either.
I think the skate
only had four wheels before.
Okay, it's a little hard.
That's okay. Let's try again.
Voila. Only four wheels this time.
That's a step in the right direction,
but I think this wheel's an orange.
Oh, that's mine.
Let's try again.
We don't have a lot of time.
No, this isn't it either.
The plate's tangled in the shoelaces.
And there are no wheels on the axles.
This is a lot harder than I thought.
How are we gonna untangle this mess?
C'mon.
This is a floppity-flop.
Sunset's getting closer
and all we have is a bunch of skate parts.
We'll never get the skates fixed in time.
Maybe we should just give up.
I give up
I can't do it, gonna quit
Can't get through it, hit a wall
It's so impossible
When all I see are obstacles
Afraid I'm gonna fail and so I quit
There's no use in trying
There's no way that we can win
Don't give up, don't give in
Gotta get right back up and try again
Mistakes can be lucky breaks
A happy accident along the way
Don't give up, don't give in
Maybe you'll make failure your best friend
And try, try, try
Gotta get up and try again
Right, we gotta try again.
Let's get back in the lab.
-That's the spirit.
-Attagirl.
Alright, so what didn't work?
We took the skates apart
but couldn't put 'em back together.
And we tried to fix everything at once.
So the parts ended up in the wrong places
and nothing got fixed.
Maybe if we tackled one thing at a time,
we wouldn't get so mixed up.
Let's break it down--
Like my parents did with the dance steps.
-Exactly.
-Oh yeah.
We need to figure out
how the pieces go together.
Okay. How?
When designers build a building model,
they match it to the original design.
But we took the skates apart,
so we can't match them to anything.
We can match it to this picture.
Alright, let's follow the picture
and fix the skates, one part at a time.
-Awesome.
-Nice.
And there.
Looks just like new.
They look amazing.
Let's get 'em to my folks.
It's almost time.
Perfect.
Ta-da!
-We found your skates and fixed 'em.
-Wow. Look at my skates.
They look so shiny.
They look just as good
as the day I bought 'em.
-Now you can enter the Skate Jam.
-You did it?
I mean, you did it!
Think it's too late for Skate Jam.
Oh no.
-Man.
-Really?
The skates are late,
but they sure look great.
Dad.
You kids did your best,
so don't worry about the rest.
And I can't stop rhyming all the time-in.
I wish we fixed them
in time to see you skate dance.
Well, it might be
too late for a Skate Jam,
but not a skate twist.
C'mon, keep it tight. Yeah.
-Slow it down.
-Okay.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
We don't know who won the contest,
but we won the best parents.
And I finally won a piece of corn.
"The Amazing Spider-Twist."
What's the surprise?
Please be a unicorn.
And open.
Cool.
Don't be scared of my new lab partner.
She's PeeDee
'cause she's pretty and delightful.
-That's spider for, "Hey."
-Found her in my window.
She's an orb weaver,
my favorite kind of spider.
Cute, right?
I guess she is pretty.
And delightful.
Wait, there are
different kinds of spiders?
So many kinds.
Orb weavers look like ladybugs,
and their webs are silky smooth.
Wow. That web design is amazing.
The angles are sharp. It's perfect.
Smells like it's time
for PeeDee's first snack break.
-Hi, Dad.
-Hi, Mr. T.
Hey. Well, this first batch
of peppermint cookies got burnt.
Phooey.
So far,
it's been a lot of trial and error.
A lot of error.
It's okay not to get it right first time.
Yeah, when I was learning to ride a bike…
A lot of trial and error.
Crashing into stuff, falling off,
ending up in my basket.
But then fab-tastic wheelies.
Exactly.
-Can PeeDee try one when they're done?
-Who is that?
Oh my goo--
I mean, spider.
There's a spider in here.
Did somebody say "spider"?
I can't look.
-Wait!
-Did I get it?
Don't squish it.
Spiders make great lizard snacks.
Hey! No squishing or eating PeeDee please.
She's a friend.
Yeah.
Okay, but Ada, I think your new friend
would have much more fun outside,
you know, as far away from me as possible.
Okay.
Sorry, PeeDee.
Guess this is goodbye.
I know that was hard baby,
but spiders
give your dad the heebie-jeebies.
And your mom.
Okay, me too.
Anyway, spider crisis averted.
Sorry Mom. Gotcha.
Gotcha.
PeeDee!
Gotcha.
Sorry, Mom. I put PeeDee outside,
but she keeps coming back.
Sweetie, if I see her in here again,
she's gonna meet my friend Mr. Broom.
I'll sweep her outside.
Maybe we can figure out how to keep her
out of the house with science.
It's a deal,
but try to figure it out by bedtime, yes?
We'll need to weave a web of ideas.
Let me guess, with a brainstorm.
I know! What if we install
a spider security system
with a web stretched in front of the door?
Yeah, but what if your family
accidentally gets caught in it?
Thinking about it,
that would be a sticky situation.
I heard lights attract bugs,
so what if we designed
a super bright light in your backyard?
That could work,
but what if it attracts
too many bugs and they have a dance party?
Bunch of bugs boogying?
I have one word for you, moat.
And two more words, baby alligators.
My parents wouldn't let us
dig up the yard.
And they probably wouldn't
let you have alligators,
even baby ones.
Yeah, probably not.
I got stuck on the "baby" part
of baby alligators.
There's gotta be a way to keep PeeDee out.
-Bug spray.
-But we don't wanna hurt PeeDee or us.
And most bug sprays smell terrible.
But those cookies smell fab-tastic.
Wait. Smells attract and repel.
I know that look.
You've got a "hyperbosis."
No, a "hyperocerous."
Nope, that's not it.
I've got a "hypothesis."
I've got a hypothesis
I've got a hypothesis
-Does that
-Observation
-Mean this
-Explanation
Right or wrong
Let's find out what the answer is
It might not be right
But we're gonna find out
What this theory is all about
-An educated guess
-But will it stand up to our test?
Yes, that's what a hypothesis is
I've got a hypothesis
I've got a hypothesis
Let's find out how right it is
Let's go!
Here's our hypothesis.
If we figure out
which bad smells repel PeeDee,
we'll get her to stay out.
I don't wanna get stinky,
or stinky-stinky,
and definitely not stinky-stinky-stinky.
But I guess I'm in,
for science and PeeDee.
Yes! Let's get some stinky stuff
and meet outside.
Loading the lab.
You're gonna want these.
Spidey subject is alone and cute.
The claw machine is ready to go.
Okay, let's stink up this spider.
-Fascinating.
-No reaction.
Placing the tuna and a stinky sock.
She'll definitely think that that's gross.
She likes the tuna and the stinky sock?
Double fascinating.
Does that mean
PeeDee's gonna meet Mr. Broom?
It's almost bedtime.
Looks that way.
So many trials and nothing but--
Errors. Trial and error.
Like what Dad said.
Like me learning to ride a bike.
Exactly.
We'll try more stinky trials
until we get it right.
PeeDee's container is pretty messy.
Right. After we clean it.
Those bubbles smell orangey.
-She ran away from the bubbles.
-Great observation.
Maybe PeeDee likes stinky smells
and hates soapy smells.
Mind blown.
New hypothesis, if we put soap bubbles
around windows and doors
where she comes in, it'll keep her out.
Oh, that's a lot of windows
and doors to bubble.
-We can make a bubble blower.
-That'll double the bubbles.
Let the bubbling begin.
Well PeeDee,
I guess this is goodbye again.
Don't forget me.
-Happy trails.
-Ada!
Whoa!
Whoa!
Whoa!
Sorry Mom.
Looks like our bubble machine
worked a bit too well.
You know what you need to do, missy.
After all of that cleaning,
I need a snack.
Oranges.
You guys, PeeDee's back.
We gotta find another way to keep you out.
Why won't she get in my hand?
Something I said?
Since smells attract and repel,
maybe it was something she smelled.
My hand smells like oranges.
So maybe it wasn't the soapy smell
that PeeDee didn't like,
but the orangey smell of the bubbles.
Exactly.
These bubbles are unscented
and these smell like orange.
-It is the orange smell.
-We'll just put orange peels everywhere.
They're not as messy as bubbles,
and way less slippery.
That was my last one.
I'll get one.
We're out of oranges too.
I thought it was the answer,
but all of our trials failed.
Poor PeeDee.
Hey, why all the sad faces?
How about some peppermint cookies
fresh out the oven?
Okay. Thanks, Dad.
Yes.
Dad for the win.
Nailed it.
Doesn't look like she likes peppermint.
Iggy, you're right.
PeeDee doesn't like peppermint.
New, new hypothesis.
If we fill the house with peppermint,
she'll stay outside. Hope we're right.
But spreading candy around the house
will attract ants. Trust me.
How about the peppermint
without the candy?
You can use the peppermint oil
I use in my hair.
Yes! Thanks, Mom.
Activating peppermint power.
Smells so good.
-It worked!
-She didn't go inside.
Bye PeeDee. I hope I see you again.
Oh, baby, don't look so sad.
Sure, PeeDee has to stay out,
but she can stay around the house.
-Really?
-Cool.
We can find the stinkiest corner for her.
And done.
Welcome to PeeDee's Spider Spa.
Thanks for giving me your stinkiest sock.
-Glad to.
-What do you think, Mom? Dad?
Looks great, sweetie.
As long as she stays there.
