CaroleThey look frightened.

[Horse neighs]

It's OK. I'm here.

It's so nice having another girl in the house.

I told Max I had a feeling that something was wrong.

He kept telling me it was the wind.

Mom had feelings about things.

Sometimes I feel Starlight does, too.

It's like he can read my mind.

I miss my dad,

but living here is a dream come true.

[Gust of wind]

[Horse neighs]

It's probably the donkey.

[Snorting]

CaroleTrouble's sound asleep.

There must be something else spooking the horses.

But what?

VeronicaHelp her!

JackStop stressing, Veronica.

She was just fretting and knocked herself.

It's not serious.

Easy, Garnet. Easy.

She's just tired.

Something's keeping all the horses awake at night.

Well, that "something" attacked garnet.

Some riders would love to see me out of action.

of them at Pine Hollow.

No way!

We would never hurt Garnet.

Somebody did,

and I'm going to find out who.

Who are you?

My dad said he was going to ring

to join me up.

Oh?

And he hasn't?

Didn't talk to me.

We've just moved into the district.

I'm Mrs. Reg,

and your name is?

Oh, sorry. Desiree,

but everybody just calls me Desi.

Hi, Desi.

Have you done much riding?

Oh, yes, I've been riding since I was .

CaroleDo you have your own horse?

[Chuckles] Most of the time...

but Midnight has a habit of tossing me

and running off,

which is why I look like this.

Then we're just going to have to teach Midnight

some manners, aren't we?

Do you want us to help you

look for your horse?

No, it's OK.

He'll come back when he's hungry.

JackHeels down, Tess.

Looking good, Jennifer.

Half circle, please, Marty.

This horse is obviously overtired,

and it's your job to make sure

that they're well rested.

Just give me a break.

I'm overloaded here.

Mucking stalls, booking lessons,

teaching you.

And this lesson is supposed to be a private.

Private means private.

Fine.

Girls, slow down, slow down.

[Cell phone rings]

Kristi.

Slow down!

VeronicaYou are so lucky to be out of here.

Miss Amelia left.

Jack is teaching.

Oh, and Garnet has been attacked.

And to cap it all...

badly-dressed nobodies can just blow in.

You sure about that?

OK, no, that's fine.

Yeah. Thanks, bye.

How's the hunt for the new teacher going?

Actually, I've got my eye on a very promising woman,

but I haven't asked her yet.

Oh, who's that?

Oh...

-time state champion.

Runner up at the nationals.

And is she local?

Oh yeah, yeah.

Do I know her?

Not as well as you should,

or you would have recommended her.

She bought me my first horse

and coached me when I trialed for the Olympics.

Nice try, Max,

but when it comes to teaching,

I put myself out to pasture a long time ago.

Aw, Mom...

I'm very flattered...

but no, no, no.

So that's the tour. You've seen it all.

Do you think you'll be riding here often, Desi?

I hope so.

Pine Hollow looks nice.

We're going on a trail ride later.

Want to come?

I don't know. I--

There's plenty of school ponies.

Oh, OK, then.

StevieDesi, um,

do you live far from Pine Hollow?

DesiWe just moved into Morningside.

Do you live in one of those big new houses?

The -story one on the corner.

That's a mansion.

The one with garages?

Maybe. I don't know.

I didn't look.

I better go see if Midnight has turned up.

What do you think?

I don't know.

Do you think she really has a horse?

You don't?

How can she afford a horse?

She doesn't even look like

she can afford a meal.

Mum says Morningside's really expensive,

but she looks like she slept in the barn.

Maybe she did.

What?

You saw her clothes and the hay in her hair.

Maybe she slept here.

That would explain what's upsetting the horses.

She could be homeless.

And she's making up the stuff

about her house and her horse?

But why?

Maybe she's a runaway.

Yeah, but how do we find out?

I think we're going to have to put up some posters.

MelanieWhy?

Well, to alert the people who lost Trouble

that he's here.

They don't care,

otherwise they wouldn't have let him get lost.

No, miniatures are expensive.

Someone's looking for him.

So, Melanie, take a photo and make a poster.

So we can keep him here?

Well, yeah, until he's claimed,

but he'll have to be paid for

like all the other horses.

How much will that be?

$ a week.

bucks!

That's right.

But what about a discount because he's so small?

., and it's a deal.

And my private lesson, conducted by Jack,

a nice guy, but a stablehand.

It was complete chaos.

Maybe you could put her in one of your classes?

Yeah, look,

as much as I'd like to,

my roster's booked with senior riders.

Why don't you teach her?

For the last time, Max,

no, I am too old.

No, you're not!

Yeah, she is.

Pardon?

Oh, no, nothing personal.

I know that 's the new ...

but...

I have to go.

MelanieHold still, Trouble.

We'll have to get him some treats

to make him sit still.

Where from?

There's plenty of stuff in the lounge fridge.

I'm so hungry.

Who ate my lunch?

CaroleIt's OK. You can have half of mine.

Hey!

Looks like someone beat you to it.

What's going on?

Strange noises at night,

Garnet getting hurt,

and now food missing.

LisaMaybe it's Desi.

If she's homeless,

she's got to be getting food somewhere.

Hello?

Hey, Max.

Mm-hmm?

Has Desi signed up for riding?

Uh, no, not yet.

I knew she wasn't on the level.

Now, I have a question for you guys.

What do you think of my mother

taking classes?

Well, if she can teach

as well as she bakes cookies, great.

Mrs. Reg as a riding instructor?

I'll give it a go.

LisaShe's always been like a...mother,

but that could be a good thing

if we're not riding very well.

She'll be better than Amelia.

That's for sure.

[All chuckle]

A younger teacher would bring in new students.

CaroleMrs. Reg built Pine Hollow

up from nothing.

Yeah.

I'm sure she was something in her day,

but you know what they say.

"She ain't what she used to be."

Did you hear from your dad?

Not yet.

LisaMy mom's coming.

We can take you home.

DesiNo. It's OK.

We drive past Morningside.

We'll drop you off.

OK. I'll just meet you outside.

StevieGood move, Lisa.

If she goes to Morningside,

she's the real deal,

and if not...

she'll have to come clean.

Where'd she go?

She can't keep hiding forever.

We have to help her.

We have to catch her first.

MaxWhat happened?

Did he put his hoof in an electric socket?

No.

Why is his mane like that?

It was getting in his eyes.

Hmm...

OK, it's just...

I don't think his owner would recognize him.

But it is Trouble.

Look, kids...

do a photo that really looks like him

and put the posters up all over town, OK?

And if nobody claims him,

then you know you've done the right thing.

Hm. I could've sworn I had truffles in there.

You know what?

I bet Desi took them.

She acts all innocent,

but I know she attacked Garnet.

All I need is the proof.

What do we do if we catch Desi?

If she's a runaway or in trouble,

we'll help her.

But what if it's not Desi,

and there's something really dangerous...

Would you come on?

CaroleQuick! Hide!

What is it?

CaroleI don't know.

It doesn't look like Desi.

Well, it must be Desi...

mustn't it?

They're heading for Garnet's stall.

We've got to get down there.

LisaWhere did they go?

[Girls scream]

What are you doing here?

What are you doing here?

We asked you first!

What's going on?

I don't know!

[Girls scream]

MaxOK, you know the rules.

No staying overnight without permission.

StevieBut technically, we did have permission.

Whose?

Carole's.

She lives here, remember?

I think they've got you there.

Mm-hmm.

CaroleVeronica was the only one not invited.

I don't need an invitation to protect my property.

From what?

You had warnings that something was wrong

with the stables.

What warnings?

Somebody cut Garnet's leg

the night before last,

and last night someone or something

was definitely in there.

We all heard it.

At first, we thought it was Desi.

Desi?

She's homeless, and she's been staying there.

Is this true?

What are you talking about?

We don't think she's on the level.

We don't think she lives in a mansion on Morningside.

Did you see her there last night?

Well, no...

but we're sure she's sleeping there.

OK. What is this?

Is everybody majoring in drama today?

All right now, that's it.

Everybody out. Call me for the next show.

Hey!

But somebody hurt Garnet.

She hurt herself.

Then what about the missing food?

What missing food?

Desi must have taken it.

Mrs. RegGirls...

you've got to stop making these assumptions.

Yeah, Come on, girls, that's it.

Out you go.

I found it!

A way to make money!

They pay people to train miniatures

to be guides for the blind.

Pay? How much?

Who cares?

It's more than we have now!

But they want miniature horses.

He's got legs, a tail, and he's short.

It's close enough.

All we have to do is send an e-mail to sign up.

[Sneezes]

Look at her.

Poor Desi.

She's caught a cold, and it's all our fault.

How?

She probably heard us in the stables,

so she slept outside,

and it was freezing.

But we don't know if she's been sleeping there or not.

Why am I the only one who's ever on time?

StevieYou know what, Veronica?

You think you're so hot.

Why don't you teach the class?

If Jack doesn't show soon, I will.

Your diagonals are pathetic.

Ugh!

[Horse neighs]

Who is that?

Look at her seat.

It's so...Germanic.

Awesome!

She's so good.

Absolutely!

All right girls, mount up!

Melanie, we're over our heads.

We have to stop taking food from the lounge.

But we're going to pay everybody back.

JessAnd now the guide people want to see Trouble.

I thought we could train him first.

Me, too.

But it's too late to back out now.

They're coming today.

What are we going to do?

We just have to make him...

irresistible.

All right, keep going large.

Let me see what you've got.

Play time is up, gentlemen.

Let me see you go over the cattle lattice.

Show him how it's done, Scott!

Choke!

[All laughing]

[Horse neighs]

Mrs. RegJumping is like life, you guys.

You can either play at it

or do it as if you mean it.

[Applause]

Wow! Good job, Mrs. Reg!

Whoo-hoo!

When you're ready to jump like that,

let me know.

CaroleGo, Mrs. Reg!

So, Veronica...

I guess you were wrong about Mrs. Reg.

Don't you get sick of being wrong

all the time?

OK. He's got to get this right.

Are you ready?

[Sighs]

Ready.

OK, ...

...

.

JessCome on, boy!

Come on!

[Grunting]

[Snorting]

Ugh!

Are you OK?

We are so busted.

VeronicaYou rode brilliantly today...

well, for someone your age.

Thank you, Veronica.

You blew us away today, Mrs. Reg.

I rather impressed myself, too.

You were awesome!

Let that be a lesson to you.

No matter what you think of people,

they will always surprise you.

Are you OK?

Fine!

Why don't you take the horses back to the stables.

I'll catch up with you later.

Thanks again, Mrs. Reg!

So how did the first lesson go?

Awesome, as the kids would say, except...

Except what?

I don't think I'm going to sit down for a week.

[Laughs]

This should help him make a good impression.

It makes him look like a toy.

Maybe we should test him again.

It's hopeless.

Trust me on this.

OK, so he's not a natural,

but he's fast.

Which isn't a good thing for a blind person.

What are you two up to?

Somebody's coming to see Trouble.

Oh, finally.

I guess those posters did the trick.

Yeah.

StevieYou know what, Veronica?

You were totally wrong about Mrs. Reg,

and now you're wrong about Desi, too.

I don't think so.

If you guys hadn't been playing

those silly little games last night,

I would've caught her red-handed.

She's not here to hurt anything.

She's alone and just needs help.

You are so young.

[Horse neighs]

You hear that?

Now she's attacking them in broad daylight.

If max doesn't do anything about this,

I will.

[Screech]

[Veronica screams]

What is it?

A big owl, isn't it?

[Girls laugh]

[Owl hoots]

StevieMax, meet your boogey man.

He must've been the one trapped in the stables

scaring the horses the whole time.

Veronica, I'd say you owe Desi an apology.

Don't hold your breath.

Where is she, anyway?

She disappeared again.

That trailer would've cost more than our house.

CaroleHow hot is that horse?

What a beauty!

Whose is he?

DesiThat would be mine.

Hi.

I'm Melanie.

Thanks for coming.

I was expecting somebody a little older, Melanie.

Well, Jess is much younger than me.

Well, from your email, your miniature sound ideal.

He is. He's smart, loyal, caring,

good company...

well-behaved, quiet...

[Trouble brays loudly]

Quiet most of the time.

He's saying "pleased to meet you".

He can almost talk.

This is a donkey.

We train horses, miniature horses.

He is a miniature.

Donkey.

Well, we're half right.

And we can train him for half the price.

Do we have a deal?

[Sighs]

[Grunting]

Why did you think I was homeless?

Um...well...

um...

It's a long story.

I couldn't help noticing...

the number plate on your trailer...

Biggins.

Are you related to Barry Biggins,

the developer?

He's my father.

Then we're kind of related.

Your father makes money with my father.

Really.

[Cell phone rings]

Kristi, get lost.

We can go riding together.

Oh, and I know where all the shoe stores are.
