to give peace and prosperity

were those of his two brothers,

But Chiyou soon became
corrupted by his crown.

The crown was black
and made of the hardest stone.

- A symbol for all his many black deeds.

- [woman scoffs]

[narrator] With the power
of his black crown,

he created chaos
in the tribes of his brothers!

Huangdi knew that if his youngest brother
was not defeated,

then he would consume the world
and spread chaos.

So Huangdi prayed
to the Lady of the Nine Heavens

for the power to restore balance,

and, in return,
she gifted him a golden dragon.

[cheerful music playing]

[children gasp]

[narrator] With the help
of the golden dragon,

Huangdi was able
to fight through Chiyou's storm.

To keep the black crown
out of dangerous hands,

Huangdi fed it to his dragon.

- [children gasp]

[narrator] All the tribes were now safe,

and Huangdi named himself
the Yellow Emperor,

the first emperor to unite China.

- After a hundred years of balance...
- [cheering]

...Huangdi climbed aboard his golden dragon

and returned to the heavens.

But their mortal bodies could not ascend,
and came crashing down to Earth.

Upon hitting the ground,

his dragon's body created a golden tree
that blooms in all seasons.

The spirits of Huangdi and his dragon

became stars directly above the tree,

which astronomers now call Gamma Leonis.

[children whimpering and crying]
