And now to today's story, starring me.
And NOT starring Nannete Manoir.
Today, Mrs. Brinks is teaching us about famous
inventors - like Samuel Morse- Code,
Rudolf Diesel-Engine and Louis Pasteur-ized Milk,
and for once I am the expert on account of everyone knows
my dad, Bill, is an inventor of inventions, too.
[expl*si*n]
Now class, who knows what Rudolf Geiger invented?
Yes, Nanette?
Before I begin my answer, may I say that although
Rudolph Geiger was not French,
he should have been for he invented uranium:
the most precious gem in the world, not counting you,
Mrs. Brinks.
Why you sweet, sweet child!
But Mrs. Brinks, I thought Rudolph Geiger invented the
Geiger Counter for counting uranium!
Yes, well, Geiger counter, precious gem, close enough.
Another gold star for Nanette Manoir!
[GROANS]
Just think, Gina Lash, how great it would be to invent
something great.
But we've already invented the best game in the world:
"Crash-test Swingset!"
Hey! Yee-ha!
How come I always gotta be in the middle?
Such play can only be the work of the Devil!
I find it poetry in moo-oo-CHOO!
Bless you.
[SNEEZE] Bless you.
Angela, watch out!
May Day! May Day! Abandon ship!
AAAHHH!!!
Angela Anaconda, I was wrong.
This is the greatest game ever invented!
You're a genius!
Hey everybody- LOOK!
Tres impressive Angela Anaconda,
which is French for I can't believe I didn't think of it.
Sorry, Nanette Manoir, but I guess great inventions
run in my family.
Which is why my invention is so great!
So now it is the next day, and everybody is doing my
invention which I, Angela Anaconda, invented.
And by everyone I do mean everyone.
This swinging invention of yours is so chique, Nanette.
Well, I think it's chiquer, even more!
No need to fight, girls.
My invention is for all the people.
There must be some misunderstanding.
Excuse us, Nanette, but somehow everyone thinks
you invented this swinging craze.
Yeah, tell everyone the truth.
Certainly, Angela Anaconda.
It would be my pleasure.
Gather around, people!
I have an announcement!
I've decided to call my special invention extraordinaire:
"The Nanette-Lock" -
an homage, if you will, to my fine locks of golden hair.
The Nanette-Lock!?
But, but, but-
This is intellectual property rights piracy!
Yeah, an important invention should be named after the
important inventor, not some fake French phony!
Nanette Manoir!
You stole my invention!
[LAUGHS] Oh really?
Well, Creme Brule, which is French for "prove it."
Oh, I will!
I'm curious, Angela, how do you intend to prove your
right of ownership?
Easy.
You saw me do it and I saw me do it!
It is an open and shut case that is open and shut.
Well, I'm convinced, but if you want to convince
everyone else, you'll probably need to get someone
besides your best friend to back you up and tell
everyone you invented the Nanette-Lock.
Oops- I mean "Angela-Lock".
No problem, Gina Lash, on account of since there were
so many kids around at the moment of my inspirational
moment, we have lots of witnesses.
Salisbury Steak or Swiss Steak,
hmm, now that's a tough one.
Hey! What'd I do?
Listen up, Johnny Abatti, you have to tell us
everything you remember from the day I invented
my invention, okay?
Yeah, okay.
Sure. Let's see now.
I was on the swings not doing nuthin' when -
Hai-YAAA!! Hai-Yaa!
I was surrounded, but not for long.
With nerves of steel, I waited till the last minute
then- YAI!
h*!
HA! HUT-HUT! HEE-OOH!
That's it? You didn't see anything?
Well, um, what was the question again?
Good Heavens!
Everything I remember?
Well, it all started with the children.
Poor Gordy could barely breathe that day.
I can barely breathe today.
[KER- CHOO!]
Be strong, my child, be strong.
Uh, what about us and the swings?
The swings?
Oh, Good Heavens.
Well, I suppose I was too busy tending to poor Gordy
to really see you two do anything.
So now I am thinking this witness thing is tougher
than I thought.
Which means Gordy is our last hope.
Hey yeah.
He was watching us the whole time.
He must have seen something that he saw.
Yes, I remember it like it was yesterday.
Gordy, it was yesterday.

Excuse me, Mrs. Brinks?
Gordy Rhinehart would like to make an announcement

Yes, Gordy?
Well, um, I saw Angela and Gina Lash do the
"Nanette-Lock" first.
Angela invented it - assisted by the beautiful
Gina Lash - not Nanette.
What? How can this be?
Certainly you must be confused.
I quite agree, Mrs. Brinks.
I mean, does Angela's witness have a witness?
Yes, me.
Though I didn't see anything,
Gordy was indeed there.
I know because I was helping him recover from a plague of
sneezes: giving him tissues, wiping his watery eyes.
Angela invented The Nanette Lock?
Well then, what do I do with this?
Excusez-moi, Mrs. Brinks.
But if Gordy was having a sneezing fit with watery eyes,
how could he see anything- let alone
Angela's supposed invention?
Brilliant! I mean, yes- good point.
How could you, Gordy?
Well, um, er, maybe I didn't exactly see it when it
happened, but, um, Angela had to invent it because, um,
she said so?
Lying, Angela Anaconda?
And bringing your poor fragile friend into it??
Frankly, I am appalled.
But, but!
But please everyone, don't be mad at her.
She's just jealous of my invention,

Bravo, Nanette dear.
You are not only the inventor of the
Nanette-Lock, but the re- inventor of grace

Oh, so Ninny-Poo is the great inventor of my

Okay. I'm done.
So, Gordy Rhinehart, do you know what kind of float
you're gonna build for the parade this year?
Do I?
Do I know that April showers bring May flowers?
Do I know that macramé is an under appreciated art form?
Do I know that-
Gordy! What's your float?!
Oh. This year's float will be entitled 'Spring Equals Love.'
What's the prize this year?
If it's foodstuff, will you share it?
The true prize is the love my float will express.
Well, that and a victory bouquet of Daffodils.
Wow! Look at that firetruck!
She's a beaut.
A guy could settle down with a truck like that.
Slow down, the breeze is making my hand cramp!
Hello peasants of Tapwater Springs!
Daddy made a small donation to the fireman's fund
and they let me borrow this beautiful,
shiny, red fire truck.
Are you going to be a fire girl?
No. This year I will grace the town by entering a float in
the annual 'Spring into Spring' parade.
This firetruck will be the foundation for my winning
entry- 'Spring equals Nanette.' Carry on Alfredo!
Nanette's entering [WHEEZE] a float?

Thanks guys.
With your help, my float is going to give the world more

I, I think I got something in my eye.
Johnny, you can be in charge of picking the Mums
and sorting them by color.
Gina. I need you to hand me tissue paper
with your lovely hands so I can make delicate carnations.
So, what's your plan, Gordy?
Well, uh, once I have the flowers sorted,
it usually comes to me.
Gordy, if you want to beat Nanette,
we need a beat Nanette plan.
It's called a float right?
Then maybe it should be made out of something that

Angela Anaconda. I'm impressed.
But where are we going to find a boat?
I think my Nonna Abatti might have something
from the old country.
A Gondola!
Nonna brought it back from her Honeymoon in Venice.
I carried it here myself.
Ooooph!
Ahhhhh.
Uh, Johnny.
What this operation needs is a Nanette spy to spy on
Nanette, and I think that you're the man for the job.
I don't think it's right to spy on other people's
float production.
It just doesn't seem in the spirit of -
Gordy Rhinehart, it's either that,
or he stays here and 'helps'.
Ooooph.
Hey, who's got the squirt g*n?
Don't forget binoculars!
[SIGH] That was from Paraguay.
Don't put the Petunias next to the African Violets.
WHAT am I paying you people for?!
With these imported roses, you'll surely win first place.
I don't know.
Gordy Rhinehart's won every year since -
Since when? Since you were a nobody until you met me?
I mean - Of course you'll win first place.
Of course you will.
Ahhh!
Did you hear something?
Caw! Caw! Caw!
It's just some crow.
I knew that!
Of course you knew that!
Of course.
Green carnations, pretty pink mums,
yummy yellow daffodils.
Oh. Sorry.
We needed a barrel for the smoke stack.
Smoke stack?
Heh, Are you forgetting that I'm asthmatic?
Nanette's got millions of French roses imported from,
uh, well, I don't remember where,
but I think I heard something about Paraguay.
[SIGH] Paraguay.
French roses.
We don't even have Tapwater Tulips.
Maybe we could - I know!
We can use pastry products to decorate the float.
We have to remember, this float is Gordy Rhinehart's float.
What do you think Gordy?
Well, I -
I've got it!
Two words. Plastic. Flowers.
[GASPY WHEEZE]
No, no! Pink roses on the back of my throne,
red roses in front!
Miss Manoir?
Are you about through with the truck?
You'll get it back, when the parade's over!
[HONKING]
[HONKING]
What is that noise?
Uh, uhm, Meow, meow!
Oh, it's just some helpless little kitten caught in a tree.
Alfredo, call animal control.
I'll save him!
Uh. Can I use one of the ladders on the truck.
No!
And we'll get all my brother's old tube socks
that don't match and hang them from the smokestack!
Or maybe the float could be a political statement
against k*lling whales.
You know, they are mammals.
Nanette's got a throne!
We should definitely have a throne.
Hey, there's an old toilet in the alley
behind Abatti's Pizza.
We can pump whale cries through a sound system.
No, no, no the throne can be made of tin foil!
[WORRIED SIGHS]
Friends, paid laborers.
With your little insignificant hands,
you've made a float that will surely take first prize,
and for that I give you my sincerest merci!
First prize! That's Gordy's -ahh!

I swear I heard something.
Uh. Mooooo. Ooops.

Sorry Miss Manoir.
We've got a report of an old gondola on fire,
and since the parade's over, the trucks ours again.
[SCREAM]
Congratulations Gordy Rhinehart,
I'm sorry I got in the way of your float making.
That's okay, Angela Anaconda.
Seeing your horribly tacky attempt at float making
helped me realize that Spring and Love

You don't need a huge production number
to explain how you feel.
Although 'Showboat' wouldn't have been the same without one.
Here Gina Lash. I want you to have these.
Gordy, I only asked you to share the foodstuffs.
Speaking of foodstuffs, how bout we buy Gordy
some celebration cinnamon swirl at Mapperson's.
Hey! Where is Gordy?
How long 'till summer?
