[NASA RADIO CHATTER]

Telemetry reports
the fix has been made.

How’s it going?
Slowly.

This is Mission Control...

we now have 15 hours and 7 minutes
to launch and counting.

If we get the instrument
package finished in time...

Ah, they will, Oscar.
Be patient.

[YAWNING]
I've gotta get some sleep.

You don't think it's bad form
my cutting out like this, do you?

Are you kidding? You've babied
this lunar probe along for months.

Why don't you get
a good night's sleep?

Yeah, okay.
What about you?

I don't know. I get around a launching pad,
I don't feel much like sleeping.

Yeah. I'll see you in the morning.
All right.

And, uh, if anything goes...

Okay, Oscar. I'll call you.

Good night, pal.
Good night.

[EERIE MUSIC]

Did you pick it up on radar?

What?

That blaze of lights across the sky.

Blaze of lights?

Just now. Didn't you pick it up?

Are you serious, Colonel?

Yes, I'm serious.

You mean it didn't show
on your radar?

Nothing, and I was looking right at it.

Lots of people see things
in the sky, Colonel.

Lt... It could've been a sudden vapor
condensation, something like that.

Sheriff at Denbow, he says he's had
some calls about a flying saucer.

Yeah, well, patch me in.

Yeah. Yeah, Sheriff, it might've
looked like a UFO to some folks...

but absolutely nothing
showed on our radar.

Next thing you know, we'll be hearing
calls about visitors from outer space.

FLIGHT COM:
It's looks good at NASA One.

B- 52 ]PILOT:
Roger.

BCS Arm switch is on.

FLIGHT COM:
Okay, Victor.

B-52 PILOT:
Landing Rocket Arm switch is on.
Here comes the throttle.

Circuit breakers in.

STEVE:
We have separation.

B-52 PILOT:
Inboard and outboards are on.

I'm comin' forward with the side stick.

FLIGHT COM:
Looks good.

PILOT:
Ah, Roger.

STEVE:
I've got a blowout in damper three.

SR-71 PILOT:
Get your pitch to zero.

STEVE:
Pitch is out. I can't hold altitude!

B-52 PILOT: Correction. Alpha Hold is all“.
Threat selector is emergency.

STEVE: Flight Com. I can't hold it!
She's breaking up! She's breaking...

ANNOUNCER:
Steve Austin. Astronaut.

A man barely alive.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.

We have the technology.

We have the capability to make
the world's first bionic man.

Steve Austin will be that man.

Better than he was before.

Better, stronger, faster.

[MAIN TITLE THEME]

[ROOSTER CROWS]

[DOG BARKING]

Hey, what's going on here?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

Hey, give me those...

[ALIEN SHOCK SOUND]

[SCREAMS]

Oscar, I've been on the phone with people
from three other towns besides Denbow...

and they all saw...

A sh**ting star.
A UFO.

Steve, while you were
on the telephone last night...

I was sleeping and my head
is clear enough to know...

that radar in Mission Control
does not lie.

Oscar, I know what I saw.

To top it off, I talked to a
Deputy Sheriff in Denbow...

who said something strange
happened there early this morning.

Will you have breakfast with me
so I can tell you the different reasons...

why it can't have been a UFO?

Oscar, it was a UFO.

I saw the same kind of lights three years
ago when I was on a space shot.

Steve.

I need you here.

I'll try and be back before launch.

I'm Colonel Steve Austin.
What seems to be the trouble?

[SIREN WAILS, RADIO CHATTER]

Bob Kemp, Colonel Austin.

Sheriff.

This here is Dr. Waters.
How do you do?

Sheriff, I don't want to
interfere with your business...

but I heard last night
you had a report of a UFO.

I didn't know UFO'S were
a specialty of yours, Colonel.

I thought you tested planes
and did all that space stuff.

That's right, but this is a little different.

You see, last night,
saw the UFO myself.

Oh. Our switchboards lit up all right.

I don't know how many wild stories
we had in here last night...

about funny objects
glowing in the sky.

But this morning, we've got
something that's not so funny.

Frank and I will start
circling the west of town...

unless you have a better idea.

No, that should do it.
He got out of here on foot.

I'll cover the east side.
One thing. Be careful.

He may have more acid.

What acid, Sheriff?

I've got my work to do.

You want the name of an
otherwise sensible man...

who also saw those
funny lights in the sky?

You're standing
right next to him.

You'll nave to excuse him.

We don't get too many unusual
criminal cases around here.

Crazy thing to do.

According to Ed's wife, all the thief stole
was some of their clones and some fruit.

When that surprised him,
the thief threw acid at him.

Now, you wanted to ask me about
that UFO we both saw last night.

As far as I could tell, it looked like it
was heading down towards the beach.

The man that got burned, where is he?
Can I talk to him?

I had him rushed to County Hospital.

You couldn't talk to him even
if he was here. He was in shock.

Did his wife see the thief?

No.

Better call the county hospital,
have them put this man in isolation.

What for?

Those aren't acid burns, Sheriff.
Those are radiation burns.

You sure?

I'm positive.

You men, get in the back
of Harry's pickup and follow us.

We better find him.

I'm going with you.

Yeah.

[RADIO CHATTER]

[ALIEN NOISE]

Your arms hurts you
where the man touched you?

I'm sorry.

Did you have the man
hit by an object?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

But then why did he fall down
and cry out in pain?

Things are happening.

I do not understand.

I should have gone
with you to explain.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]
Yes.

We can not just run.
Do not be afraid.

We are dangerous to them.
I will talk to them. I will explain everything.

Sheriff?

Go ahead.

We spotted two men and
two women in work clothes...

under the train trestle.

One of you go check 'em out,
the other stay on the radio.

And like I told you,
don't touch them.

We're on our way.

Don't touch them?
He's got to be kidding.

[TIRES SCREECH]

I will talk to them.
Do not be afraid.

Okay, folks. Come on out.

We are travelers
from a far off galaxy.

Sure.

Where'd you get that fruit
and those clothes?

We did not mean
to harm anyone. All...

Tell that to Ed Hermon
and his wife.

Call Kemp! Tell him we found
the ones we're looking for!

Turn around. Get against the wall.

Come on, turn around.

[ALIEN SHOCK SOUND]
[SCREAMS]

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

[SIREN WAILS]

Ray just touched on one of them
and he dropped.

They burned him like
they burned Ed Hermon.

Get Ray to county.
Take the pickup.

Which way did they go?

Down that wash toward the beach.

What did they do to you?

One of them threw a rock,
knocked the wind out of me.

I'm okay.

I'm gonna have to radio
the county for more men.

We'll try to cut them off
down at the beach.

You two, go with Parker.

Only don't touch them.

Harry! You come with me.
We're gonna need your dogs.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

More angry men are coming.

We need your protection, father.

[ALIEN SOUND]

There they go!

[BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT]

Hurry up before
they get out of sight!

Colonel Austin?
Where are you going?

I'll catch up with you later.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

We nave deceived all of them but one.

Eymon, you must protect us from him.

[DOGS BARKING]

There's no trace of them,
no tracks, no nothing.

We didn't lose sight of them
till they came over that rise.

We're just gonna have to go back up to
the wash with the dogs and start again.

But where could they
have disappeared to?

I don't know.

What do you say we
call the highway patrol?

I say this thing happened in front of our
noses, and we'll settle it ourselves.

Come on.

All right, you guys!
Let's go back to the wash!

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

[TREE CRACKS]

[DOGS BARKING]

They got the scent.
Now we're rolling.

They ain't going toward the beach, Bob.

They're headed the same
way Colonel Austin went.

Sheriff! Sheriff!

You guys better circle wide around.

Sheriff, an important Government man
named Goldman called you from the base.

He was asking about Colonel Austin.
I told him he was here...

We got no time for your
important government man now.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

[BIONIC EYE SOUND EFFECT]

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

[LOUD CRASH]

I won't hurt you!

Do not touch us.

I understand.

Just touching one of you
leaves the radiation burns.

Yes.

MINONEE: We did not
mean to harm anyone.

There is something
in the body chemistry.

We are dangerous to your kind.

I was in space once.

I've often thought that there
was life on other planets.

You are very curious about us.

About our life. Our secrets.

Yes.

If I'm going to help you,
there can't be secrets.

There's nothing you can do for us.

We're going to die in this strange place.

Maybe there is something.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

Eyman says you are
not like other humans.

Look at me.
[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

Yes. I feel the scars of your accident.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

They rebuilt your body.

You are more than human.

Bionic.

I'm not so sure I'm comfortable
with your telepathy.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

Yes, this is disturbing to you.

And yet all that I can read is good.

That you will somehow protect us.

I'll try.

If you wait outside,
I will tend my family.

I do not know what sickness they have.

[DOGS BARKING]

Now what's gone wrong?

They lost the scent.

Well, we're just gonna have to spread out
and cover the ground ourselves.

We better tell them to look out
for Colonel Austin.

I don't want him getting shot.

Yeah...

but if he came after them,
probably got burned just like Ray.

How are they?

Weaker.
I have nothing to help them.

It seems to me you have all kinds
of powers at your disposal.

Isn't there something
you can do?

No.

That was your ship I saw
last night, wasn't it?

Our scout ship.

We were the first team
to try to land here.

But I saw another one like it
almost three years ago.

A robot drone, sent to explore
the system before we arrived.

We all have different abilities.

We each were trained
for our job in the team.

My brother is our guard.

He was trained all his life to protect us.

He has the power of telekinesis.

The ability to move objects
with the power of his mind.

I am the communicator.
What you called a telepath.

What about the illusion that the four of you
were running toward the beach...

when you were really heading up here?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN SOUND]

The mechanism in your eye
enabled you to see the truth.

That's my father's power.

What happened to your ship?

I know very little of the technical
operations of the ship.

There was an expl*si*n.

We lost control.
The ship sank in your ocean.

All our equipment went with it
and all our medicine.

My family is dying
and I can't help them.

How are you feeling?

I'm well.

I was not touched by any of you.

Was your ship launched from a planet
or a larger spaceship?

A large spaceship.

Where?

Out there. Near Pluto's orbit.

"Second star to the right,
straight on till morning."

What?

It's just a line from a children's book
that popped into my head.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

My parents beckon me.

STEVE: Where's your brother?

He's gone to your people.

After what's happened,
my people are panicked. Angry.

He knows that.
He's gone to stop them.

Even if he must die.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

[DRAMATIC MUSIC]

Wait!

Can you understand me?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

I know what you're trying to do.

I know it's your duty to sacrifice
yourself for your family.

No, wait.
I'm not going to hurt you.

All I can do is try
and save your sister.

If you wanna help me do that...

you keep them off this hill
as long as you can, you understand?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

They're almost gone.

Nothing has helped them.

This is the end of our voyage.

That big ship that you came on, would they
be expecting some message from you?

Yes, but there's no way
to contact them now.

They will expect that we're lost.

They will send another ship.

[CRIES]
And another family of explorers.

And more of us
and more of you will die.

Listen to me.
This is very important.

Is there some sort of code
that you use to signal the big ship?

Yes. Mother knows.

Get it from her.

Why? It's useless.

Can you get it?

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

Mo... Mother!

Mother?

Mother!

[SOBBING]

I have received the code.

I want to spend some time
alone with my father.

They are gone. Both.

I'm very sorry.

We'll have to leave.
There's no time to bury them.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

There's no need.

Take my hand.

It's all right. Take my hand.

[DOGS BARKING]

Hey! There's one of 'em!

[g*nshots]

ls everybody all right?

MAN: One man's hurt bad, Sheriff!

Get him to Doc Waters right away!

All right. Come on.
You're coming with me.

KEMP: He's got to be here somewhere.

KEMP: I knew we hit him.

Oh, my God.

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

[HIGH-PITCHED ALIEN WARBLING]

What's the matter?

My brother is gone.

We have to hurry, or the time
he's given us will be wasted.

Come on.

[METAL CREAKING, SIZZLING]

Go.

[NASA RADIO CHATTER]

[PHONE RINGS]

This is Oscar Goldman.

I'm sorry I couldn't get back
to you any sooner, but...

OSCAR: Never mind that.

Where's Austin?
KEMP: We don't know.

Maybe they k*lled him.
He was last seen following their tracks.

KEMP: Is there any chance
they'd try to break into the base?

I don't know.
I'll check on it.

[NASA RADIO CHATTER]

MCCALL: Launch minus

MCCALL: Okay, we got the ramp.

[DOOR CREAKS]

[CLICKING, WHIRRING]

[WHIRRING]

Does the saving of one life
mean anything to your people?

Yes.

A great deal.

Good. Yours is the one
we're going to save.

Come on.

Sit down.

Give me the celestial location,
I'll point the laser at your ship.

I don't understand.

The ship will leave without me.

We're going to tell them
that you're on your way.

But I have no way
to get back to my people.

Yes, you do.
But first, punch out their location.

Okay, now tell them that
in exactly 24 hours...

an earth capsule will pass behind
the dark side of the moon.

At that point, they will be
able to intercept the capsule.

And I will be in that capsule?

You will be in the capsule.

[DOOR CLOSES]

That's not going to happen, Steve.

Finish the message.

Steve...

Finish the message.

Steve, this is madness.

Oscar, we're going to make room
for her in your lunar probe capsule.

We're going to send her
back home.

I know what's been going on here.

Do you, Oscar?

I know that four of them landed
in a craft that went down at sea.

I know that one of them died
and disappeared.

I know that if anyone touches them they'll
suffer extreme radiation burns and shock.

And I know that we can't
let any of them escape.

When you turned on the laser
he knew where we were.

He's had the building
surrounded by guards.

Don't you know what we can learn here?
By studying her what we can learn?

There are no more of "them", Oscar.
She's the only one left.

All the more reason why
we shouldn't let her escape.

Oscar, they came here in peace to see if
they could survive on our planet, they can't.

I'm not interested in their motives,
I'm interested in science.

I'm interested in knowledge.
Look, I'm not gonna hurt her.

All I wanna do is learn from her.

I wanna study her.
Don't you understand that?

I understand you,
but I'm not gonna let you do it.

Look, we've already k*lled
her parents and her brother.

She's all that's left, Oscar.
She's not going to be our guinea pig.

Steve...

Oscar, do you know how
we k*lled her parents?

With the touch of our hand.
That's all.

Just the touch of a human hand.

All right. All right.

Suppose... suppose you're right.

What you propose,
sending her up in a capsule.

Steve, this launch is
costing millions of dollars.

How many, Oscar?

Four?

Five?

Six?

Do you wanna blow six million dollars
of your handiwork to keep her here?

Is it worth that much to you?

Oscar, if we don't let her go,
she's gonna die.

I've got a higher responsibility, pal.

Oscar, she's gonna die.
Please help me.

Please.

This is Oscar Goldman.

I'd like you to release the security
guards around the laser building.

You got that?

Good.

Thanks, Oscar.

Could you...

Could you give us
any information?

Any knowledge that your people
may have accumulated?

I've told him everything I know.

MCCALL: Launch minus 4 hours
and 37 minutes and counting.

Come on, that's your ride.

You'd better call the hangar
and make sure no one's there.

[NASA RADIO CHATTER]

It has little grace.

Well, it gets the job done.

You should see a LEM.
LEM?

We don't have enough time
for me to go into it.

I wish we did.

This would have been a
good world for my people...

if we could have lived with yours.

I will miss your world.

I'd better make room
for you up there.

[BREAKING]

[SHATTERING]

It is good that no one else
will know of my existence.

Do you understand now
why I must try and go back?

Yes.

You are polite.
You don't understand.

No.

But you sacrifice your
needs for your friend.

We're getting there.

We'll be up there someday,
where your people are.

You know the chances of her
making it back to her ship...

about a million to one.

It's all right.

If I die in space, it's fitting.

I was born there.

Time to go.

Have a safe voyage.

Thank you.

It's not built for human travel.

But it's airtight.

There's no crash couch
to cushion the takeoff shot.

I am not human.

No, but...

My body can stand a lot more
stress and pressure than yours.

I will need only a little bit of oxygen.

I can place my body in a state
of unconsciousness...

which requires minimum intake.

The ideal astronaut.

Please don't worry.

I can stand the stress of a launch.

But there's still a lot
of odds against you.

What if the main ship
didn't receive the message?

If they don't make the rendezvous
on the dark side of the moon?

You have done all that any body could.

You better get in.

I don't know your name.

Steve Austin.

I am Minonee.

Steve.

Goodbye, Minonee.

[NASA RADIO CHATTER, HISSING]

Launch minus 2 minutes
and 30 seconds and counting.

I thought you said
Colonel Austin was coming.

I expected him here
sooner than this.

Everything okay?

All except for a few last minute
adjustments in the weight.

For some reason or other,
it was lighter than we expected.

But it's okay now?

All in order.

Sheriff, how you doing?

Fine, fine.

Launch minus one minute
and counting.

My deputy and Ed Hermon
are recovering.

They still need treatment,
they're alive, thank God.

Look, uh, what happened to them?

Well, they're all dead.

How did you avoid getting burned?

Lucky, I guess.

I saw one of 'em disappear,
you know?

Most frightening thing I ever experienced.

Still don't believe it.

They all disappeared.
Last one of them.

Yeah, I saw her disappear.
I find it hard to believe too.

Launch minus 15 seconds.

Ignition.

[ENGINES ROAR]

We have liftoff.

KEMP: You guys sure make that look easy.

Let's go, pal.

Nothing left but just
to wait and hear.

Well, that's what I'm gonna do, Oscar.

I'm gonna wait right here.

[NASA RADIO CHATTER]

Morning.

Morning, Oscar.

I see our satellite is
performing satisfactorily.

So far.

MCCALL: Function is normal. Status.

Good. Should be coming around
the other side of the moon.

We should have reacquisition
of signal in 5 seconds.

One.

Require acquisition of signal now.

It's not there.

TECH: We've lost it!

What happened?
Are you getting any readings?

Malfunctions? Systems? Anything?

It could've crashed.

We couldn't have lost it.

Wait a minute, I'm getting a signal.

No, a faint signal.

It stopped. It's gone.

What was it, Mac?

Doesn't make any sense.

It sounded like...

"Straight on till morning."
Something like that.

I don't understand.

I don't know how it could've
happened, Mr. Goldman.

I don't know how we lost it, but we did.

That's all right, Mac.

That happens sometimes.

[END THEME MUSIC]
