01x11 - The Impossible Man

Post by bunniefuu »

It was the world's strangest accident.

While testing a new rocket ship,

our heroes were bombarded by mysterious

cosmic rays from outer space.

Though they crash-landed safely, the

strange and powerful rays had changed

each one of them. Transforming their

leader Reed Richards into the plastic

skinned Mr. Fantastic,

Sue Richards into the Now You See Her,

Now You Don't Invisible Girl,

and Ben Grimm into a mighty muscled

powerhouse called The Thing,

now together with Herbie the Robot, the

newest member of the group. They have

become the greatest team of superheroes

the world has ever known.

The new Fantastic Four.

It is nearly dawn over New York City in

their flying Fantasticar. The four

members of the world's greatest superhero

team are returning home after an

exhausting and dangerous adventure. Well,

it won't be much longer. I can see the

Baxter Building up ahead. Thank goodness,

Reed. I'll be glad to get some

sleep. You'll be glad. I feel

like I can sleep for a week. Actually,

Benjamin, that is physically impossible

for humans. Uh, what does a clankin'

clankin' robot know about sleep anyway?

Actually, I know quite a bit about the

subject of sleep. I know, for instance,

that during sleep, the conscious

activity... All right, ready. Forget I

said anything. I only hope we get

home in time to get some sleep while the

stars are still out. Out. They're not

only out, Susie, they're coming down.

Look, it's already gone. I guess it

was just a sh**ting star. Well, here we

are, crew. Home sweet home. As we look

more closely at that sh**ting star, we

see that it was not truly a meteorite at

all, but a strange green rocket.

With a human face lowering itself to

earth. And so one of the Fantastic Four's

most bizarre adventures is about to

begin, while directly below

Hey, this is some hall, huh, Joey? You

ain't just whistling Dixie, Eddie. What

are you 2 lame brains cackling about?

Why about all that dough we made-up with

from that bank?What else?

It's chicken feed. But Grogan...

Don't interrupt me. I'm thinking...

What we need to break into the big time

is a gimmick. Hey,

what's that?Some kind of rocket. It's

gathering all our money. Forget the

girl. Look at that. Hey. The

rocket's changing shape. That's

impossible. It's a man, sort of.

But he's all green. Greetings, Earth

people. Earth

people?Holy cow!

Whoever this guy is, he must come from

another planet. Let's get out of

here. I mean you no harm. Hold

up, you bums. He seems friendly.

Let's see what he wants.

What can we do for you, buddy?Well, for

one thing, I'm hungry. I've come

a long way, you know, and I haven't had

anything to eat since the Crab Nebula.

Crab Nebula. What's that? Some kind of

seafood?Shut up.

Oh, greetings, Spaceman.

Hey, what's your name anyway?Name.

We of the planet Pop-up have no names.

Yeah, well, my name's Grogan. And

since we got to call you something, how

about the Impossible Man?

Cause you sure are. So

you're hungry after your long trip, are

ya?Well, that shouldn't be any

problem. Long as you brought plenty of

cash with you. Cash. I don't

understand. Cash. Empy baby. Money.

Dough. Moolah bread. You know, you give

it to somebody and he gives you food or

anything you want. How interesting.

No money, huhLet's ditch this

loser, Grogan. Yeah, he ain't even

got anything we could steal. Clear him

up, you two. So you don't have any

cash on you, old buddy. We'll help you

get plenty of cash. Why, there's people

in a city near here just waiting to give

it to you. There are. My,

what a friendly place. What's up,

Grogan?I don't get it. This

space Queenie is the gimmick I was

looking for. We'll use them to rob

every bank in New York, and then

we'll figure out a way to get rid of

them. I get you, boss.

OK, Empy baby, hop into our

car and we'll ride into the city and find

you some cash. My, my

This is your source of transportation.

It's much too slow for one such as

myself. Yeah.

Well, what do you suggest? You got an

airplane up your sleeve?I'm not quite

sure what sleeves are, but since you

mentioned aeroplanes,

your wish is my command.

Whoa. You can change into any shape you

want just by thinking of it. Now

just point me toward this city you

mentioned and we'll be off. You

got it, pal. It is

morning in the world's greatest city, the

start of another busy, bustling day.

Wow, that was a fast trip,

Grogan. The fastest. OK,

Impy baby, you can change back now.

You can change back, can't you?Of

course, Mr. Grogan.

Now what? You said you would show me where

your fellow Earth people would give me

some cash. Right in there,

pal. It's called a bank, and it's

where everybody on Earth gets all the

cash they want. Just go in and

bring back all you need. Oh,

and get some for us too, will you?Of

course, Mr. Grogan. My, you

certainly are a good friend.

Why, there's some transparent substance

blocking my way. Hey, where'd he

go?I'm down here. I just

made myself very tiny, that's all.

My, my, what an awful lot of blue

costume earth people that they have in

here to hand out the cash. They probably

keep it behind this iron door.

Salutations, Earthman. I have come for

some cash. Hey, where did you come from?

The vault's still locked. I came in the

way anyone would. Of course.

Under the door. Guards. Guards.

I'm being robbed. HmmYou're not as

friendly as Mr. Grogan and his g*ng.

Well, I guess I'll just simply have to

help myself. Good

heavens! I must be going mad! He's

changed into a green vacuum cleaner!

I I don't believe what I'm seeing. I'm

getting out of here. Guards!

All right, fella. Drop the cash. Why?

It might spill out. I really don't

understand Earthmen.

Holy Toledo!

I can't go back under the door with these

bags of cash.

There, this ought to do it.

You'll never believe what happened to me

in there. This man didn't want to give me

any cash, so I

We'd better be moving along now, Wimpy

baby. Of course. Besides,

I'm still hungry. Yeah,

that's an idea. Come on, guys.

We're all going to go and have breakfast.

Hey, Grogan, ain't this kind of risky?

Cool it, you lame brains. Who's going to

be able to stop us while we've got the

impossible man on our side?Hold it, you

birds. Uh oh, now we've had it.

Don't sweat it. Impy baby,

that guy in blue, he wants to take your

cash away from you. Oh my,

that's two unfriendly earth persons I've

met now. Well, he shouldn't be too hard

to deal with.

HuhA king size pogo stick. Hop

aboard, boys. That's our ticket out of

here. Stop all of you

in the name of the law. Don't listen to

him, Impy. Just hopscotch us out of here,

OK?Whatever you say, my good friend.

Whoever that little green guy is, he's

some kind of supervillain. That means

this is a job for the

Fantastic Four.

Meanwhile, back in the Baxter Building,

at least I got 3 hours of sleep. Holy

Hannah, there's our Special 4 signal in

the sky. That means the police want the

help of the Fantastic Four for some sort

of emergency. I'd better summon the

others.

Oh no, not the alarm. Not now. Just

when I was about to shovel off to

Dreamland, I've already

checked with police headquarters group.

They said that someone just robbed the

First National Bank on Park Ave. They

said the main bank robber was a little

green man. Who turned into a pogo stick

and hopped away with the loot. That green

guy in his crawlers didn't go far. In

fact, they were reported going into that

fancy restaurant down the street. We'll

take care of it, officer. Your special

cherry, pecan and banana pancakes,

Monsieur. My, my, myYou

Earth people certainly do have some

exotic foods. Boss,

I know you said not to worry, but look

who just dropped in to say hello at a

Fantastic Four. Keep your shade on,

Joey. Let me handle this. All right,

gentlemen, I'm afraid there's been a

complaint made that this fella just took

some money out of the bank without a

withdrawal slip. You've got nothing on

us, rubber man. Joey and Eddie and

me just stood around watching. Well,

we can still take in this creep. Come

along quietly, pal. You're

not my pal. Mr. Grogan is, and I'm not

going anywhere with you. This is my

vacation, and I've decided to spend it on

your planet. And no one, I repeat, no one

is going to ruin it for me. Vacation.

What do you mean?I think I'm starting to

get the picture, Sue. How

long will this vacation of yours last,

Mr. I don't really have a name, but Mr.

Grogan calls me the Impossible Man.

Yes, I can see why. Now about your

vacation. Well, it could last a

minute or a year or even forever.

Nuts to that. I'm taking this

pistachio colored b*mb in.

All right, Junior, let's go.

Oh, that's smarts. He turned into a

thornbush. Of course, we

pop-upians have to protect ourselves. Hmm

It appears, Reed, that we have a rather

thorny problem on our hands. Yes, I know,

Herbie. The only thing we can do

is try to keep him here so he can't help

out Grogan and his g*ng anymore.

Impossible, man. You can call me Impy. As

Mr. Grogan does. Well, Impy, I

just wanted to explain a few Earth

customs to you. It's an Earth custom

that you can't take money out of a bank.

Unless you first put some in. How

curious. And secondly, Mr.

Grogan here and his two cronies are what

we call criminals. Very bad

men who take things they shouldn't. Oh,

no, they're not bad men. They're

my friends. If anyone is bad, it's

you. Well, I guess he's left us no

choice. Sue, use one of your

invisible force fields to hold him so he

can't escape. Will do, Reed. There.

That ought to hold him. How interesting.

But it won't really do any good, you

know. Reed, he's

gone. That doesn't seem possible. He said

he could change shape. Not become

invisible or walk through force fields.

He's gone just the same. Now remove your

force field, Sue, and we'll get to the

bottom of this. It's removed.

Thank you, Earth people. There he is. He

didn't escape at all. He just got small.

That's a very interesting power you have,

young lady. You must show me how you do

that sometime. Shall I activate another

force field, Reed? No, Sue. This time

Herbie and I will take care of him. Come

on, Herbie. With pleasure, Reed. I should

be able to knock him off balance with my

rocket power. Well, so you want to

play, do you? This might be fun.

That flying wastebasket bounced off like

a ping-pong ball. Way to go,

Wimpy baby! Stand back, everyone.

I'll deal with that alien personally.

This ought to hold him. Not really,

Earthman. After all, you've still got a

few joints I can squeeze between. Ohh

This is rich!How's it going,

Impy baby? You having a good time, just

like your old buddy Grogan promised you?

Oh, yes, Mr. Grogan. In fact, I

like it so much I may just stay here

forever and never go back to pop-up at

all. You'd be welcome, Impy, but not

as long as you're helping Grogan and his

evil g*ng. I won't hear my three

best friends in the whole universe and

salted. Can you show me some other

places, Mr. Grogan?I sure can,

Impy. If you'll just change to a plane

again. All right,

Fantastic Four, you're all through in

this town. The next time you see

us, you better steer clear of

us, or you're gonna be

sorry. Let's go,

Wimpy baby.

Hey, Stretch, how come you didn't say

nothing back to that bum, huhBecause,

Ben, I'm afraid that as long as he stays

friends with the impossible man, he may

just be right.

Boy, what a dumb dumb that little green

creep is. Yeah, he does all the

work. We take all the loot. And the law

can't touch us. Sooner or

later, the Fantastic Four's going to find

a way to pin something on us if we keep

using Impy that way. We're plenty rich

now, so our next step is to get rid of

that alien. Uh oh, clam up. Here he

comes now. Hey, how's it

going, Impy baby? You bringing some more

cash?Oh, yes, indeed, Mr.

Grogan.

Wow. This puts us way up over the

million mark, don't it, Grogan? It does,

Eddie. Shall I go get even more cash?

It's really a lot of fun. Well,

as you taught me to say, Mr. Grogan, I'll

be back in a flash with the cash.

My, my, what a truly wonderful

vacation I'm having.

Well, aren't these Earth people wonderful?

Bank. Grand opening.

Oh, how marvelous of them to do all that

just for me. Oh,

I just love opening Grand Banks.

My, I must say you're a

lot friendier than most of the other

Earth persons that have given me cash. I

wait. I recognize you now. You're

one of the strange persons in blue, the

Fantastic Four. You're not my friends at

all. Yes, we are, Impy.

But before we can prove it to you, I'll

have to use my force field. If this is

only an imitation bank, not a real one,

then you must be Reed Richards, Mr.

Fantastic, at your service. I really

don't want to hurt anyone. But I must

insist that you let me return to my good

friend, Mr. Grogan. Listen, Impy, we

don't want to fight you either. We only

want to talk to you for a minute. All

right. If I listen to you, then will you

promise to let me go?Yes, we will.

Sue, remove your force field from around

Impy. Right, Reed. Ah, it's

nice to be free again without having to

fight anyone. Now, Impy, you promised

you'd listen to us for a minute. All

right, but only for a minute. I don't

like hearing you say bad things about my

friends. That's just it, Impy.

Grogan and his g*ng aren't your friends

at all. If you listen to them talk when

they don't think you're around, you'll

learn they've been lying to you, just

using you to get cash that doesn't belong

to them. I really don't know if you're

telling the truth or not, but still,

you've kept your part of the bargain. So

I'll just return to Mr. Grogan and find

out for myself.

I still can't get over how lucky we were

stumbling on that little green creep and

tricking him into making us rich. Yeah,

that sure was a great plan of yours,

boss. But now that we got plenty of

dough, how do we get rid of him with all

his crazy powers?I got it all

figured out. See, I'll start talking. To

him when he comes back, then you two grab

him from behind before he can change into

anything else. He'll never know what hit

him. Check, boss. Then with that

nut out of our hair, the Fantastic Four

will never be able to prove a thing.

That's great, boss. But hey, did you

notice how there's a funny green glow in

here?It must be this light bulb going bad

on us. I'll just put in a new one. Oh,

hey, that light bulb. It just bit

me, huhThat can only mean...

That's right, Mr. Grogan.

So, the Fantastic Four were telling me

the truth. You three aren't

my friends at all. So what, you

lime-colored yo-yo?You and the

Fantastic Four can't do nothing to us.

We didn't commit any crimes. You did them

all. Yes, I suppose that's true.

But still... I can see to it that you

don't enjoy your ill-gotten gains. Stop

him, you lame brains, before he...

Too late! Holy cow! He

blew all our paper money right out the

window! Don't just stand there. Get it

back!

Uh-oh, boss. Do you see what I see?The

Fantastic Four! Well, what do

you know?These jerks got 20/20

vision. You're finished, Drogon. We can

take you in now for planning to get rid

of Impy. We heard it all. In that case,

there's no sense in making nice with you

anymore. OK, boys, let's

get him. Yes, by all means, gentlemen,

come and get me. That way I can add

Attack on the Fantastic Four to the list

of crimes against the three of you. Of

course, he tricked us. Shut up. Well,

that certainly wraps up this case,

doesn't it, Benjamin? You know it, Metal

Mug. But you know what? All of a sudden, I

can't help feeling a little bit sorry for

the impossible man. There, there, Impy.

You mustn't take it so hard. It's all for

the best. Impy, we

we haven't dared tell you this before,

but Herbie and Reed have figured out that

the Earth's atmosphere is not good for

you. What do you mean? They've computed

that if you remain here any longer,

you're in danger of losing your

superpowers, and then you'll be stuck on

Earth forever. Nonsense. We

Popupians can't lose our powers. It's

just not done. No.

Well, if you'll come with me for a

minute, I'll show you what I mean. Well,

all right. In here, Impy.

What kind of place is this Earth person?

It's a place where Earth people come to

look at themselves in these mirrors.

They'll prove to you that you can't

change shape anymore. For instance,

can you become 10 feet tall now, like you

could a little while ago?Of course I can.

Then try it. There.

Look in the mirror. Why, it's

impossible. I'm just normal

size as a matter of fact. The

strange atmosphere of Earth may even make

you shrink. Impy, look in this

mirror. Great galaxies. I look

only a few inches tall. And

in this one, I'm five times as wide as I

want to be. You must be right.

I'm losing my ability to control my

powers. And soon they'll be entirely

gone. And if that happens, then

you'll be marooned here on Earth forever.

But then I'll just be like everybody else

here. I've got to get out of here while I

still can.

Here I come. Earth is a horrible

place. And I'm never coming

back. Sue, you did it. I got to

hand it to you, lady. I didn't think

anything could get rid of that far out

freeloader. He didn't understand that our

funhouse mirrors distorted his true shape

and that he wasn't losing his powers at

all. You did the right thing, Sue. He'll

be much happier out in space.

Yeah, he sure will. Well, Ben, if you

don't mind dragging Grogan and his g*ng

in here, we'll just turn them over to

Ben. Ben, where are you?Over there,

Reed. Oh, that's right. He never

did get any sleep last night, did he?

Well, he's certainly making up for lost

time. And you know something. Oh, what's

that, Herbie?I've got a computerized

hunch that he may just prove that,

contrary to what I said before, some

human beings can sleep for a whole week

at that. Wouldn't it be just like him to

prove me wrong for the first time while

he wasn't even awake? If anyone can do it,

Herbie. Ben can.

Spider-Man!
