Rally Caps (2024)

Post by bunniefuu »

(no audio)

(gentle music)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

- 2,121, 2,122,

2,123, 2,124,

2,125, 2,126,

2,127, 2,128,

2,129, 2,130,

2,131, done.

- Oh, sorry honey, I overslept.

Big day today.

- Mom, I can't eat.

My stomach hurts.

- You're just nervous

about your tryouts.

You'll do great.

You just have to go

out and have fun, okay?

(Pop knocks)

- Yeah!

- [Jordy] It's Pop!

- Hey.

- Who's ready for tryouts?

- You hungry?

(Pop grunting)

- Ow, Pop, you're crushing me.

Good morning, honey.

You got a bagel for me?

You know, I couldn't

sleep last night.

- Me neither.

- I put 1,000 bucks on

you making the team,

so don't blow it.

- Seriously?

- Dad!

Don't listen to him.

- All right, all right,

all right.

I didn't put 1,000

bucks down, I put 2,000.

- No.

- Yeah.

(Pop laughs)

Hey, nice uniform.

- I slept in this for good luck.

I also did 2,131 tosses,

for Cal Ripken's

consecutive game streak.

- Yeah, you ball players,

you all have these little

routines, you know?

Remember Moises Alou?

- Oh gosh.

- He used to pee on his hands

to make his hands tougher

so he could grip the bat better.

- Pee?

- Yep, let's move on.

I have a little gift for you.

Bring you a little

extra luck today.

Here you go, Dad.

- Thank you.

- I'm gonna go get it.

- Yeah.

Listen kid, we're all

rooting for ya,

playing Little League for

the first time, finally.

- Okay.

This is for you, from your

dad, right before he died.

He wanted you to have it today.

- [Jordy] Oh, nice!

- He didn't have a chance

to break it in, so -

- All right, all right, all

right, quit staring at it.

Time's a wasting, you

know, we got things to do.

Into the garage.

- What's in the garage?

- You'll see.

(garage door whirring)

I got another number for

you, for your routine.

Number 5, Brooks

Robinson, my favorite guy.

- Yeah, I remember.

Maybe I can do like a

little toe tapping routine,

like five times on the mound.

- Ha, I thought you'd say that.

(Pop chuckles)

- Okay, I got the shaving cream.

Here we go, all right.

- Give it.

(shaving cream hissing)

- What are you doing, Mom?

- Woo, boink!

- This just adds cohesion,

and eliminates the rigidity

of the glove, you know?

The leather needs

strength, but flexibility.

It has to stretch, you know,

it has to fit like mold

on your hand.

Now comes the fun part.

- Wait, what are you doing?

- [Pop] We got 10 minutes

to break this thing in,

get in the car.

(Pop chuckles)

(pleasant music)

(engine revving)

(Nora laughs)

Dum, ba-dum, ba-dum,

ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum.

- [Jordy] You're Fl*ttening

my glove like a pancake.

- Ba-dum, dum.

(Nora laughs)

(players chattering)

(ba*ls thudding)

- [Jordy] One, two, three, four,

five.

(Jordy sighs)

- Nora, hi.

- Hi.

- It's really good to see

Jordy try out.

- Yeah, he may have

over-prepared.

- Think his rituals have

become a little elaborate?

- It may be a tad excessive.

- I mean, if it manages his

anxiety, I'm okay with it.

- Yeah, I just didn't want him

to become a prisoner of

his own superstitions.

- Oh, kids do funny things

when it's their first tryout.

It's just nerves.

- Yeah, his big brother

used to love routines.

- If he plays like Rob,

we'll have our next phenom.

Hey, I'd love to see Rob.

Is he coming today?

- I mean, you'd think he'd

wanna show up, but, um...

- I've seen a lot of

fathers coach sons.

It's always complicated.

It's good seeing you.

- Yeah, you too.

- [ COACH ON PA ] Okay,

rotation of pitcher.

Jordy, get in there.

Just fielding drills for now.

Bobby, third base.

Tommy, short.

(people chattering)

(people clapping)

All right, let's go to one,

everybody.

(bat cracks)

(people clapping)

(bat cracks)

(people clapping)

(people cheering)

- One, two,

three, four, five.

(Jordy sighs)

One, two -

- Get on the fricking

mound and play already!

Enough of this nonsense!

(Pop clears throat angrily)

- You got a problem, Grandpa?

(Pop hums impatiently)

- [Nora] No.

- [Nora] Dad!

(Pop clears throat)

(bat whooshes)

(players shouting)

(bat thuds)

(crowd gasping)

- Oh my god.

(Jordy sobbing)

- [Jordy] No!

- First aid, get the

first aid kit!

Slipped right out of my hands.

- Oh no.

- Okay, okay!

I got you, I got you.

It's okay, okay.

- I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

- It's okay.

- I can't feel anything.

- I know.

Could somebody get some ice,

please?

Pop's getting the car.

We're going to the ER.

Okay, so just stay still.

You're in shock, honey.

There you go, okay.

(heartbeat thudding)

(bus rumbling)

(birds chirping)

(dog barking)

(emotional music)

(dog barking)

- [Pop] You know, by the

time we get that working,

the game's gonna be over.

- [Nora] Okay, Dad,

gimme a break.

- Well, you should've listened

to me, to go with cable.

You can't depend on this

streaming stuff.

You never know when it's

gonna poop out on ya.

Hey, Jordy.

(crowd cheering)

- You figured it out, Jordy.

- Hey!

- Jordy, you're a genius.

- [Announcer] We go to

baseball analyst, Tim Kurkjian.

- I think it's time to

get those rally caps on.

- Woo-hoo!

(Nora claps)

- [Pop] Rally cap time.

- [Nora] All right, fold it.

- Come on, Jordy.

- Os need your good luck,

come here.

Here you go.

- Come on, let's watch.

- Come on!

Come on.

- I gotta be honest, I

don't like the way

you're reacting to

all this stuff.

And you're not doing

yourself a favor

by wearing that on your face.

- It's just 'til he heals.

- That's for playing,

not for all the time.

- Pop, I'm not playing!

I retired.

- Now listen to me,

nobody likes a quitter.

(backpack thuds)

- Oh, Dad.

(emotional music)

(birds chirping)

- Ow, that hurt.

(person laughing)

Ow, that hurt.

(person laughing)

Ow, that hurt.

(person laughing)

Ow, that hurt.

(person laughing)

(Jordy panting)

(trophies clattering)

(fists thudding)

(Jordy panting)

(Jordy screaming)

(Jordy sobbing)

(door clicks)

(door creaks)

- Hey.

You know that Pop loves

the heck outta you.

- I'm not a quitter.

- No, you're just injured.

Maybe this will help

with recovery.

- It's just a folded cap, Mom.

- Hey, how many games

did the O's win

because we wore these hats?

I thought you were Mr.

Superstitious.

- The O's winning or

losing has nothing to do

with us making a magic wish.

Wearing a stupid hat or doing

rituals doesn't mean anything.

There's no point.

(somber music)

- It's because it gives

us a sense of control.

Especially if we're we're

hurting, and we're losing.

Every little thing helps.

Here.

(door creaks)

(crickets chirping)

(thunder booming)

(gentle music)

(insects buzzing)

(crowd cheering)

(crowd continues cheering)

(footsteps tapping)

(thunder booming)

(crickets chirping)

(thunder rumbling)

(computer beeping)

- Whoa, okay.

- [Nora] Dad, this

isn't gonna work.

- You're right, this

webcam stuff is confusing.

I mean, I can't see myself.

And where the hell

is the camera?

- Dad, I mean, me being

on this call,

he's just gonna hang up.

- Oh, come on, look-

- Hey, Pop.

- Oh hi, can you hear me now?

I can see you, I

can't see myself.

- As long as you can see me,

it's fine.

- [Pop] Okay.

- Hi.

- Really, Pop?

Is this just a ploy to

get us to talk?

- How's everything?

- I'm alive.

- Did you get my text

about Jordy's injury?

- Jordy broke his nose, yeah.

- Well, he's had a lot

of anxiety since then.

I mean, he's cocooned

himself for weeks.

He just won't do anything.

He won't play baseball.

When you leave for camp

in a couple months,

maybe you can take him

up with you when you go.

- I'm not babysitting.

I'm not his father.

- How about his big brother?

- This is for Jordy.

It's gonna mean a lot to him.

He wants to see you.

- Come on, Rob.

Can we just push past

this for a minute?

- Just have him outside,

alone, when I come.

(computer chimes)

(Nora sighs)

- He won't let it go.

(emotional music)

All right, this is

gonna be great.

You're gonna have so much fun.

They won't know about your

injury, or who you are,

and they have a great

baseball program.

- I'm not playing baseball.

- Okay, you don't have to

play baseball.

I just want you to have

a good summer, okay?

- Come here, come here,

give me a hug.

- [Jordy] Pop, you're

crushing me again.

- I know.

- Don't crush him.

- Listen to me, kid.

When I was coaching,

I had a player

that got hit by a line

drive, right in the knee.

She felt so bad, she

cried her eyes out.

She wasn't seriously injured,

so I told her to get her

butt back in the game.

She got angry with me.

Suddenly, she wipes her

tears from her eyes,

and the dirt from her

cheeks, and she gets up,

and the next inning, she

leads off with a home run.

- It was you, Mom?

- Mm-hmm.

- Giving up is not in

your blood, kid.

You got me?

(engine rumbling)

(horn honks)

- Oh gosh, you gotta go.

Bye, have fun.

- Okay, okay.

- [Nora] And be safe!

Love you, buddy, bye!

- Hey, buddy.

- Hey.

- That nose is looking better.

- How would you know?

It's not like you were here

to see it when it got blasted.

- Come on, Nori, go out there.

- You're gonna love camp.

Too bad your first

time's gonna be with me,

and not with Dad.

He always had a way of

making it an experience.

- It doesn't matter.

I'm not gonna be doing anything,

anyways.

Just gonna be sitting in a

cabin, minding my own business.

I don't play sports anymore.

- Not even baseball?

- Especially not baseball.

(engine rumbling)

(upbeat music)

(upbeat music continues)

(upbeat music continues)

Gotta believe, I gotta

believe myself

Gotta believe, gotta believe

Or else it means that

I've wasted all those tears

- You know, Jo Jo's was Dad

and I's pit stop every summer.

- I like my cheese and my

bread separated, remember?

- I forgot.

- Why didn't you come

to my tryouts?

I can't believe you

didn't even come.

- Well, I was busy with work,

and school, and stuff.

- You haven't been home

once since the funeral.

Why haven't you come to see us?

- We gotta get going, buddy.

Wasted all those tears

Wasted all those tears

oohs and ahhs

Wasted all those tears

oohs and ahhs

Wasted all those tears

(Jordy sighs)

- What's with the mask?

Thought you were healed already.

- Hey, what is that thing?

Something happen to you?

- I was trying out for

Little League,

and a bat hit me in the face.

- Were you the kid

on that video?

- You saw it?

- It was you!

Oh my gosh, I thought

you were dead.

- Hey, Rob.

Heading to first practice.

- Yeah, starting early

this year, huh?

- Dad, please tell me this

shrimp is not on our team.

- This is Coach Rob's brother.

He's in Bunk 5.

- Thank goodness.

- Hey, knock it off.

Say you're sorry.

I wanna talk to you.

- You're sorry.

- So I heard your first

year of college ball

was pretty rough.

- Yeah, kinda had a

lot on my mind.

- Yeah, it's not high

school anymore.

It's big boy ball.

All right, I'll see you

out on the field.

Hey Frankie, let's go.

(Jordy sighs)

- You Jordy?

I'm Ruth.

Must be a player, if

you're Rob's brother.

Looking forward to seeing you

at the camp baseball

championship game.

- I'll be happy to

watch the game.

Definitely won't be playing.

- Get signed in with Jerry.

I'll get your trunk over

to your cabin.

Shoulders back, and make

sure to tuck that shirt in.

Hey Rob, I'm so sorry

about your father.

- Thanks.

(Ruth sighs)

- It was just so sudden.

- Yeah, I was

studying for midterms

when I heard about the accident.

- Jerry said you're

taking over for your dad

coaching Bunk 5.

You okay with that?

- I've never coached before,

but I think he'd want me to try.

(gentle guitar music)

And suddenly I realize

It's gonna be alright

Finally I found a place

Where my troubles fade away

And the world

outside my door

Can't come in

Found a little piece of mind

In my own skin

Finally feeling like myself

Home again

(gentle music)

(Jerry whistling)

- Fist bumps down the line!

Meet your Head Counselor.

Hiya Jordy, I'm Jerry.

You can schedule all of

your normal camp activities,

but we've got you assigned

in one of the two

baseball bunks, okay?

So you've gotta balance

out your schedule

so you can fit in

your practices,

and of course, the end of

camp championship game,

which will take place on the

beautiful baseball field.

Bunk 6, GreyWolves.

Coach Casey's got those guys

sponsored by his law firm.

They have for years.

All spiffied up in their

beautiful uniforms.

And Bunk 5, Rob, what

were they last year?

The Beavers?

- We can do something

else this year.

- No Beavers, no Aardvarks.

The championship game,

special field.

Fences, scoreboards, live

camel parade, PA announcer.

It's gonna be nuts.

Ruth had the field built when

this was just a baseball camp.

- Too bad I can't play anymore.

- Well, you mean you won't play.

- Well, you don't have to play.

All right, there's plenty of

opportunities for fun here,

but I have already assigned you

to one of the two

baseball bunks.

So, are you okay hanging

out with the other players?

- Yeah, it'll give me a

chance to see Rob,

and plus, 5 is Brooks

Robinson's number,

my pop's favorite player.

- Ah, a good omen, I like it.

Ladies and gentlemen, we

got a new guy in Bunk 5.

Watch out for Jordo.

He's a baseball historian, ah!

(gentle music)

(chimes tinkling)

(door creaking)

- [Jordy] Hi.

Hello!

Gosh, is everyone at this

camp a freaking jerk?

(Jordy grunting)

(trunk thuds)

- Orioles fan, huh?

That bird logo is pretty cool,

but too bad they stink

like bird turd.

- So what?

The Cardinals -

- One second, I can't hear you.

- What are you doing?

- I was born deaf.

I have a hearing aid,

and I just got my cochlear

implant eight months ago.

I had to get a surgery.

I'm Lucas.

- I'm Jordy.

I just had surgery on my nose.

- You did?

I can barely see any

stitch marks.

What happened?

- Well, a flying bat

hit my face.

- Were you like walking

in a cave, or something?

- No, a baseball bat.

- Oh wow.

- Yeah.

- That's like a one in a

million chance.

- I was pitching, and I sorta

wasn't paying attention.

- We need a pitcher this year.

Our pitcher from last

year isn't coming.

Freddie Pittsnogle

- I'm not playing.

- Then why are you

in this cabin?

This is a baseball cabin.

- Ooh, sis boom bah!

- Sis boom bah!

Guys, this is Jordy.

- Skip, first base.

This is Scoops, Ted Say

a Prayer, and Richard.

- [Lucas] Where's everyone else?

- Don't know.

- Mm.

(bell rings)

- Dinner time!

- Geez.

- [Scoops] Geez, I hope

he saves some food for us.

- Okay, then.

- What's a sis boom bah?

- It's our camp chant,

our cheer?

- Kinda like go team, good luck,

hurrah?

- You're a nerd.

(door creaking)

(upbeat music)

(campers chattering)

(upbeat music continues)

- Okay, what is going on there?

- [Scoops] Spaghetti and

meatballs on two plates?

- I just like the things

separated, you know?

- He's a pitcher.

They all have their

weird habits.

- Dude, that's brilliant.

I think that's been my problem.

I mix all my foods together,

which makes a big mosh

of different flavors

that cancel each other out.

I haven't enjoyed food as

much as I should in my life.

- I think you enjoy food

a little too much, Skip.

(campers laughing)

- Hey, being chubby has

its benefits.

- Like what, exactly?

- Like, if we were

stranded on an island,

I would survive the

longest without eating.

- Wouldn't it be down

to the person

who has the best hunting skills?

- Nah, it's about your

fishing game.

- Yeah.

- Yeah.

- [Campers] Fish, fish,

fish, fish, fish, fish, fish,

fish, fish, fish, fish!

- Eye black salute!

Uncomfortable eye contact.

Hey kiddos, as you can see,

we're a little low in Cabin 5.

- So we're gonna invite

Camp Kennebec over

to play the GreyWolves

in Bunk 6 this year.

- But, we have 14 players

at Belgrade, not just 9,

so we can't just have one team.

- Let him play in the scrimmage.

- No, we wanna play in

the championship game.

- Lucas, wanna come play for us?

- Hey Frankie, we already

have a catcher.

- Yeah, me.

- Lucas is the best

catcher in the whole camp.

Chase can play first.

- No man, I'm the catcher.

- Hey guys, let me decide

who plays where, okay?

- Don't worry, I'd never,

ever join the GreyWolves.

- Rob, can you find three

more players by Friday?

- Four, Cabin 5 needs four.

- Come on Jordy, please

play with us.

It'll be fine.

Come on!

(emotional music)

- Okay, fine.

But I'm not playing pitcher.

- All right!

I'm loving the vibe here.

Cabin 5, in it together

no matter what!

Find those three players.

- Why is the gravy on the side?

- Because I like it that way.

No!

(campers chattering)

(Jordy grunts)

(campers shouting)

- Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!

(campers clamoring)

- Enough, enough!

Go back to your tables!

(campers chattering)

- Well, Jordy can

definitely throw.

(upbeat jazz music)

- Do we all have to do

the swim test?

- Yeah, you can practice in

the shallow end if you want.

- You scared to do

the swim test?

You have to at least try.

- Jordy, this is our

leader for our swim group,

also my sis.

- Nice to meet you, Jordy,

I'm Niki.

You really have to pass in

order to help us get trophies.

All you have to do is go to

the buoy and back, that's it.

- I'm scared of what kind

of things live in the water.

- Maybe some trout, or

a copperhead or two,

but also Belle O'Grady.

- The thing.

- What?

- An ugly, brown, slimy monster

that lives under the

water and eats kids.

(ominous music)

If you're lucky, she'll

just take your bathing suit,

or eat your sandals.

But she's always there,

under the surface,

staring up at your feet.

(horror music)

Despite that, the water's

completely safe.

- I think I'm just gonna watch.

- Come on, dude.

You know what?

She'll play for our

baseball team.

We need players.

She's the best softball

player on the girls' side.

And you'll do the swim test.

- Wait-

- Actually that works.

- Yeah.

(Lucas laughs)

(crickets chirping)

- Lucas likes eating green beans

while drinking orange soda.

- Lucas sees stranger things

while drinking orange soda.

- Eats green beans.

- Who eats green beans

while drinking orange soda?

- Good point.

But hey, you got it,

you're getting better.

- Yeah, but it's taking longer

than I thought it would.

- You have to be patient.

I remember how hard it was

for you after the surgery.

- I heard Niki's

playing baseball?

- Yeah, and we need some

extra players.

Can you two play?

- Those boys are scrubs.

- Cabin 5 always

gets their butts whooped

in the championships.

- We're better off

playing softball.

- Come on guys, Lucas missed

Little League this year

because of his surgery.

Could you guys please play?

Do it for me?

- Sure.

- Sure.

(upbeat music)

- [PA Announcer] All right,

Camp Belgraders,

after breakfast, please report

to your team sports activity.

Soccer camps will be

on field six,

girls and boys basketball

on their respective courts.

Baseball division,

Cabin 5 will have the

baseball field at 10 a.m..

Cabin 6, the GreyWolves,

will be at the batting cages.

- Jerry, I can't do this.

- I told ya, I can't

coach the team.

That's a conflict of interest.

I will help you as

much as I can.

You're detail oriented,

you're a student of the game.

They can't be told what to do.

They need to be

inspired to do it.

- [Rob] That's great.

Can you give me

something specific?

- Okay, you're a visual learner.

I have an idea.

Hang tight.

- We're ready, Coach.

(Rob sighs)

- These our new players?

- That an issue for you?

- Not if you can play.

- Are you really our coach?

You look more like a bat boy.

- Yahhhhh Whoooo, hurrah!

Woo!

- What's going on?

- Woo-hoo.

- Single file line, home plate.

Five, four, three, two,

very nice.

First rule at Camp Belgrade,

gotta have a nickname.

My nickname, Coach Ballgame,

because I'm all about having

fun on the ball field.

Woo!

(campers laughing)

(Jerry grunting)

Single file line, home plate,

here we go!

You'll say your nickname,

and then you'll head

to first base.

- My friends call me Scoops,

because I never eat just one

scoop of ice cream, always two.

- Ice cream salute.

(drumming)

Jordy, got a nickname?

- Nose, 'cause I broke my nose?

- How about we call you Nose,

'cause Nose knows

everything about baseball.

- How did Jordy break his nose?

- He said a flying bat hit him.

No, baseball bat.

- Oh!

- Nickname?

- Skip, because at recess,

they always pick me last,

and the captains

always say "skip,"

as in to skip to the

next player.

I changed my name to Skip,

so now when they say skip,

I run over like they called me.

- Bounce back, salute.

(drumming)

- My dad calls me Say a Prayer,

because I said a prayer

before the Cubs World Series

game seven, and they won!

- Go Cubbies!

(drumming)

- My dad calls me Mouth,

because I never shut up.

(drumming)

- Lisa.

I'll play wherever, I

know how gross boys are,

so if one of you farts,

I'm pegging you with the ball,

got it?

- PU salute.

(drumming)

Nickname?

- Ears, because I wear a

cochlear implant,

and hearing aid.

Kids at school used to

make fun of me for that,

but now I use it as motivation

when I'm on the baseball field.

- Double bicep salute.

(drumming)

- You know what, I don't

need a nickname.

- Because you've already

got Nick in your name.

That was a joke, kids.

(Jerry laughs)

- Sorry I'm late.

I was just finishing the

last chapter of "Moby d*ck."

- Ooh, scholar salute, nickname.

- Well, I don't really like

the obvious choice of

a nickname for Richard.

- Good call, let's just

go with Moby.

(drumming)

(campers laughing)

(campers chattering)

- Moby!

- Yeah, Moby!

(campers chattering)

(gentle music)

(crickets chirping)

- Built in headphones.

I'm a tech beast.

- Wow, genius.

- Hi, we saw you on

the camp website today.

We're so happy for you, honey.

- [Pop] Yeah, you're gonna

be a pitcher again, huh?

- Yeah.

- Way to go to get back

up on that mound, kid.

- Can't wait.

- Cell phone time is over.

- Yep.

- Hand 'em in.

Give it over, Skip.

- Come on, Coach.

Let me keep my phone.

- You should've thought of that

before you ordered a

bunch of food on Amazon.

Richard, you better have

been talking to your parents.

- Oh, is that Rob?

- Talk to Mom and Pop.

- [Jerry] Gather round, boys.

- Hey, it's almost curfew.

I gotta get these kids to bed.

- There's a scrimmage

in a few days.

Will you keep us updated?

- Yeah, I'll try.

You know, I kind of see why

Dad was always stressed.

Coaching ain't easy.

I gotta go.

- Okay.

- Maybe after camp, we

can go to an O's game.

- Yeah, I'll think about it,

we'll see.

Get some sleep, all right?

- Look at that mullet.

- [Rob] Hey, this the

glove Dad got ya?

- [Jerry] A mullet

mustache combo.

- Mom and Pop gave it to me.

- you know, I was with Dad

when he got it.

Made sure it was a

pitcher's glove.

(gentle music)

(crickets chirping)

(eerie music)

- The Orioles need a pitcher.

Jordy, why can't you pitch?

(thunder booms)

- [Jordy] I just had

surgery on my nose.

- Jordy, Dad would've been

real disappointed in

you for quitting.

- Here we go, Jordo.

No fear.

(campers chattering)

(birds chirping)

- What are you doing?

We gotta go, everybody's

already at the field, come on.

Jordy, you can't possibly be

that scared to play again.

- You've never missed

my birthday.

- I texted you on your birthday.

- I have no one to play with

anymore, since Dad's gone.

Mom's always working,

Pop tries, but he's old.

Why can't you come home?

Your school is not

that far away.

- Being at home just

isn't like it used to be.

- Because of Dad?

- And mom.

Mom wasn't happy with

some of the stuff I said

about Dad at the funeral.

I just said that he

was hard on me,

not that I didn't love him.

- Can't you just come

home for me?

You said I was your best friend.

- I'm 10 years older than you,

Jordy.

I'm an adult now.

You should really find a best

friend that's your own age.

Now come on, let's go, we

gotta get to the field.

(emotional music)

All right, Ted, let's

see what you got.

- Hey kids, shoulders back.

Don't forget to keep your

eye on the ball.

And keep those shirts tucked in.

(upbeat music)

There you go.

(golf cart rumbling)

- Lucas, I hope you

brought an ice pack,

'cause your hand's about to

get sore from catching my heat.

- Let it rip, Ted.

(upbeat music continues)

- No.

(Ted grunts)

- Oh boy.

- What the heck was that?

- That went a lot

differently in my mind.

- You said you were a pitcher.

- Well, I have a .021 ERA

in "MLB: The Show" on Xbox?

- Ted, it's a little

different in real life.

- Well, yeah.

Geez, it really is.

- Jordy, get your butt in

here and pitch.

- Not happening.

- You have 30 seconds

to come here and pitch,

or I'm throwing you in the lake.

(ominous music)

- All right, well apparently,

Jordy tweaked his elbow

throwing a meatball.

So for today, we'll have to

start with some fielding drills.

Ground ba*ls, throw it to first.

(heartbeat thudding)

(bat cracks)

(bat whooshing)

- Hey, that's your ball, Jordy.

- Yep, sure was.

We need to be attacking

ba*ls, not avoiding them.

Let's try this again.

- Jordy, me and you

are gonna have

a bullpen session

after practice.

(gentle music)

I'm not falling for

that elbow excuse.

Come on, hurry up.

You've got routines, too?

What else do you need,

a bubble bath?

- How did you play games

before your cochlear implant?

- [Lucas] The umpires knew

to tap my left

shoulder for ba*ls,

and my right shoulder

for strikes.

Now quit stalling.

- Whoa, bro.

I think you just k*lled a worm.

Maybe I could have caught that,

if I was about five feet taller!

Do you even know how to pitch?

'Cause you throw like trash.

- Why don't you shut up,

deaf boy?

- What'd you say?

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

(both grunting)

Get off of me!

- [Lucas] Say you're sorry.

- I'm sorry, get off.

- Don't ever say that

to me again.

Listen, obviously you

know how to pitch,

and something is bothering you

that's making you freak

out on the mound.

Are you worried about

getting hit again?

- Yeah, kind of.

- I was nervous when I first got

my cochlear implant

and hearing aid.

All the sounds were

really scary.

My heart sounded like

it was trying

to eat its way outta my chest.

- That's scary.

- Yeah, a toilet sounded

like a b*mb exploding,

it was so loud.

Without Niki coaching me,

I don't know how I

would've gone through it.

- You're lucky to have her.

- What about you and Rob?

- Rob says I should

find a new best friend,

closer to my age.

- Well, maybe you and I

can become best friends,

if you stop acting like a baby,

and you have to start

pitching better,

and you have to do the

half mile swim test.

Deal?

Lemme show you something.

This pitch is called a

knuckle curve.

It acts like a curve

ball, and it dives down.

It'll get you a really

easy ground out.

It also helps you get

out of a jam.

You wanna take your booger

picking finger,

bend it right here on the seam,

and...

(Jordy giggles)

Dude, stop.

Let's try some pitches.

(crickets chirping)

(shaving cream hissing)

(campers giggling)

(Jordy shouting)

It was Frankie and

the GreyWolves.

(campers snickering)

- [Jordy] It's not funny.

- Now it's time to

plan our revenge.

(upbeat music)

- Yeah.

(Skip claps)

- Woo!

- Where's Frankie's bed?

- The Yankees one.

Keep on moving

'Til we tear this house down

- All right, let's

take some laps.

- Whoa!

(campers laughing)

- Is that Vaseline?

- Yeah...

Working all out

Sharing to your sister

- Niki and Lucas, come on

up to the stage.

Just stare at each

other for a second.

Attaboy.

- Attaboy.

- Attagirl.

- Attaboy.

- Attagirl.

- Attaboy!

- Attagirl!

- Hey, countdown, three, two,

one.

- Attaboy!

- Attagirl!

- Hey, Lisa.

(Skip farts)

That's gonna leave a mark, woo!

Ow!

- Attaboy!

- Attagirl!

- Attaboy!

- Hey Chase, stop

staring at Cabin 5

and focus on your own team.

- [Campers] Chug, chug,

chug, chug, chug, chug, chug!

- [Announcer] We have

group number 33

with the half mile swim test.

Get ready, swimmers, here we go.

(water splashing)

(campers cheering)

- [Campers] Chug, chug, chug,

chug, chug, chug, chug, chug!

(Skip retching)

(campers groaning)

- Three, two, one.

- Attaboy!

- Attagirl!

- Nice.

(campers laughing)

- Jordy!

- Nice job.

- Go, Scoops go!

- Yeah, you got this!

- Woo!

- Yeah!

- All right Jordy,

it's your turn.

Scoops just did it, you're

the last kid, let's go.

(ominous music)

(creature snarling)

- I'm sorry, I have to

break our deal.

- I'll get you and Bunk 5

a box of candy.

Just go, come on, please.

- I can't do it.

- I'll kiss you, just go.

(heron squawks)

- Okay, stepping up next-

- Jordy, ready.

- Half mile swim test.

- Go.

- Jordy.

- Come on, Jordy!

- You got it!

- [Campers] Jordy, Jordy,

Jordy, Jordy, Jordy!

- Come on, you got it.

(water splashing)

(campers cheering)

(water burbling)

(ominous music)

(campers cheering)

(water burbling)

(water splashing)

(intense music)

(Jordy shouts)

(intense music continues)

(water splashing)

(campers cheering)

(Jordy gasping)

- Yes, I did it!

(intense music continues)

(campers laughing)

- [Niki] You did it, Jordy,

you passed!

(campers cheering)

(scat singing)

(upbeat music)

- [Jerry on Speaker]

The day has finally arrived!

The camp scrimmage.

As you all know, this

is the precursor

to the championship

game at the end of camp.

We do have some parents,

counselors in the stands today.

The counselor, Elliot,

will umpire.

My eyes began to snap

She had thirty sacks of

popcorn

sittin' in her lap

Yeah, popcorn

- [Jerry on Speaker]

Coach Casey smells like

he forgot his deodorant today.

Bunk 5, your dugout is

on the first base line.

You're the home team.

Bunk 6, the GreyWolves, you're

in the third base dugout,

and you'll be batting first.

I smell a good game.

(crowd cheering)

- All right, play ball!

(crowd cheering)

- Let's go!

- You got it!

- [Announcer] Pitching

for Bunk 5, Jordy.

Up first for the GreyWolves,

Doug.

(eerie music)

(Jordy breathing heavily)

Here's the first pitch.

It hit him.

- Take your base.

- Is this kid seriously

their pitcher?

What a wimp.

- Yeah, what a wimp.

- Why are you wearing a mask?

- [Camper] This kid

might actually be worse

than Freddie Pittsnogle.

- Hey, Nose, you smell that?

- Smells like fear.

(campers laughing)

- That's right, your

sniffer ain't working.

(campers laughing)

- [Announcer] Now up second

for the GreyWolves, Frankie.

Here comes the pitch from

Jordy, that's a ball.

- Don't aim it, just throw.

- [Announcer] Jordy

winds and pitches.

Another ball for Jordy.

Ball.

- [Umpire] Ball four,

take your base.

- [Announcer] Way out of

the strike zone.

- Nice one, Nose.

- Wussy.

(campers laughing)

- You're overthinking,

just throw.

- Come on, man, let's go.

Come on, Jordy.

(heartbeat thudding)

(suspenseful music)

(shoe scrapes)

(grip squeaking)

(bat whooshing)

(bat thuds)

(Jordy crying)

(intense music)

(Jordy sobbing)

- Oh no, I can't feel anything.

(emotional music)

(heartbeat thudding)

(emotional music continues)

(heartbeat continues thudding)

- Come on Jordy, let's go!

- Dude, let's go!

(dramatic music)

(heartbeat thudding)

(campers laughing)

What are you doing?

Move!

Your team's counting on you,

and you're just gonna do this?

Move, Jordy!

What is wrong with you?

- Hey, hey, hey, take it easy,

Rob!

- Back off, buddy.

How 'bout you worry

about your own son?

- Don't cross the line

with me right now, Rob!

- [Umpire] Break it up.

The kid just freakin' peed his

pants in front of everyone.

Give him a break!

No wonder college ball

didn't work out for you,

he's a head case!

- [Umpire] That's it, that's

it, calling it, game over.

Everybody off the field.

(Jordy sobbing)

(Jordy panting)

(Jordy sobbing)

(Jordy grunts)

(Jordy sobbing)

- No!

(somber music)

Dad!

(Jordy sobbing)

(somber music continues)

(thunder rumbling)

(rain pattering)

- [Derek] Found Jordy

in the woods.

Took him to the medical

center and checked him out.

He's okay.

- Thank you, Derek.

Is that you in there, Jordy?

(Jordy sniffling)

Shew, just had to make sure.

(thunder rumbling)

- I threw the glove that my

dad gave me into the woods.

(Jordy crying)

- It's okay, I'll have

staff go look for it.

- I wanna go home.

- You wanna sleep on it?

- No, I'm done here.

I know it.

- Jordy?

You have nothing to

be ashamed of.

I'll give your mom a call, okay?

(emotional music)

Can I have a hug?

(Jordy sniffling)

In addition to these camps,

I've been a school

social worker for years,

and I know kids, and Jordy

is experiencing anxiety

stemming from his injury,

fear of performing in

front of crowds.

- Losing his father.

- It all factors in.

- I mean, who knew kids

could get the yips?

- Well, I wouldn't go that far.

I just think there's a

lot going on upstairs.

- You know, sometimes you

just gotta leave people alone.

Let them figure it out.

Like the manager who leaves

a starting pitcher in

so he could work through it.

- Or knowing when to pull him

when he's digging

himself a hole.

- Look at you, Mom.

So concerned about

other people's feelings.

- I'm gonna go get

Jordy's stuff.

I'll see you guys later.

(Pop groans)

- [Pop] Well, that's my cue.

- You there?

- [Rob] Yeah.

- [Nora] Do you wanna

talk about it?

- No, not really.

- I said such awful things

to you at the funeral,

and I hate myself for it.

I did it because he was my

husband, and your father,

and it's not how I wanted

people to remember him.

- Well, I'm glad you

were so concerned

about making him happy.

- He was supportive of me,

and my dreams,

and going to night school,

and taking care of you two,

and I appreciated it.

But I know he had another side,

and I know

(exhales) he was hard on you.

He was hard.

He said things that

crushed you.

I defended him when I

should have been

protecting you.

I love you.

If you ever, if you ever

forgive me, I'm here.

But we have to think

about Jordy right now.

You know?

Losing his dad, you know,

losing your dad.

It's something that you'll

both learn to live with,

but, uh,

he'll never come back

from losing you.

(emotional music)

(emotional music continues)

Are you there, Robbie?

- Yeah.

I've got a few minutes, if

you wanna talk.

(water trickling)

(Pop humming)

- Honey, I got the dishes.

You go and relax, go ahead.

- Yeah?

- I got the game on replay.

I finally found out how

to use that streaming app.

Woop-woop, dunno how, but I did.

- Oh.

(Pop humming)

I don't think I'll come up

No I don't think I know how

- [Pop] What's going on?

Either pull me up

Or come down

Here it comes

The moment where you believe

But you walked away oh my

For that easy prophecy

- Hey buddy, need a little help?

- No, I'm all set.

Hey, is Jordy okay?

- I put him in his own cabin.

I think he's okay.

- I'm just finishing up here.

You can head on back.

(bats clanking)

Why are you staring at me?

- Do you wanna hit some ba*ls?

- I gotta get back to the cabin.

- I sent Derek to

watch the boys,

so I think you should come.

(gentle music)

- Okay guys, we don't

have too much time

before the counselors

are gonna make us

go back to our cabins.

- We may have longer

than you think.

(campers groaning)

- No thank you.

- Ugh.

- [Camper] Hey guys, we

only have eight players now.

- This is pointless. Now we're

not gonna be able to play

in the championship game.

- So you're blaming Jordy?

- Of course I'm blaming him.

He's our pitcher, and

he freaked out and quit.

- Lucas!

- We should leave soon, too.

Lisa's not feeling well.

- You know, I could take

you back if you want,

and you could stay.

Trust me, you'd

rather me take you.

- Why?

- Because if there's a bear,

he'd rather eat me, since

I'm the bigger meal.

(campers snickering)

- I'm glad you stayed.

(crickets chirping)

- [Niki] Lucas!

- Just leave me alone, Niki!

- What is wrong with you?

- What is wrong with me?

A whole spring and

summer without baseball.

That's what.

- You remember all those times

you came home from

school crying,

because what of those

kids said to you?

And now you're being one of

those kids, you hypocrite!

Oh really?

You're gonna do that?

- I'm sorry, I can't hear you.

- Read my lips.

I don't care if you're the

best player on the team.

You had a chance to be

a role model for Jordy,

and you failed.

Why are you looking at

me like that?

- Sorry, your breath smells

like something you ate,

and I just can't figure

out what it was.

- That's what you got

out of this?

- I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

It's just a joke.

You're right.

- What was Mouth talking about?

What happened to you?

- Let's just say it's something

that can only happen to girls.

- You got your period?

I have four sisters.

I've seen them in pain monthly.

It's the nature of

being a woman, they say.

Are you okay?

- I'm fine, thanks for asking?

- Do you use Organyc pads?

It's better for your skin.

It's what my sisters told

me once at the store.

Thanks for the talk, I

learned a lot, peace!

- Hey Ted, why don't you

say a prayer for the team?

- Well, why not?

Gotta do something, this

is a disaster.

(Ted humming)

(Ted groaning)

(campers snickering)

(Ted sighs)

- Hey guys, I wrote a

song for our team.

(ukulele music)

We're at Camp Belgrade

and it's so much fun

Playing baseball in

the summer sun

All you gotta do is

sing this song

Attaboy and attagirl

Come on, let's play,

give it a whirl

We're with friends every

day, that makes us strong

The Belle O'Grady

on our toes

And Cabin 6 won't

leave us alone

But together, we'll

always be a team

'Cause with your friends,

you'll never have to be alone

We always have your back so

you will always feel at home

We may not win, but

we're a team

Let's do our best,

we'll live the dream

And then you'll see,

how great we'll be

We got this, just you

wait and see, we're family

(emotional music)

(crickets chirping)

- That was good.

- Yeah.

- So good!

(campers clapping)

(campers chattering)

(golf cart rumbling)

- Mom coming to get you now?

(birds chirping)

(Rob sighs)

I'm sorry that I yelled at you.

I know it doesn't mean much now.

Public humiliation,

private apology.

- I know you didn't mean it.

- I didn't.

- What did Coach Casey mean

when he said that thing

about your college team

not working out?

- I got benched.

Terrible hitting slump.

My batting average

dropped below .150.

Just couldn't focus.

- Were you sad about Dad?

(golf cart rumbling)

- [Ruth] Hey Rob, Jerry

needs you on the field.

- [Rob] What for?

- I don't know, but he

needs you there right now,

so take the shortcut

through the woods.

- I wish you weren't leaving.

(emotional music continues)

- Hey, hop on the cart.

I'll take you to the front gate.

- [Jordy] Isn't the

entrance the other way?

- [Ruth] We're taking

another route.

I talked to your mom.

I didn't want her to

make the six hour drive

unless she really had to.

There's someone I want

you to meet first.

Go on, Jordy.

Go on, go on.

- Jordy, come here.

Fist bumpage.

Hey, I want to introduce

you to somebody.

This is Curtis Pride.

He played in the Major

Leagues for 11 years.

- Hey.

- Seriously?

- Nice to meet you.

- Curtis was planning on

coming at the end of camp

to do some drills

with the players,

but then I told him about

everything going on,

how you were gonna leave early.

He came today, he came for you.

You wanna stick around, play

a little ball with Curtis?

- Heck yes.

- Team meeting, skippity bop,

good hustle.

Jordy, join the team

meeting there.

I want to introduce you all

to my friend, Curtis Pride.

(campers cheering)

(campers clapping)

So Curtis is deaf, just

like Niki and Lucas.

He was actually the

only deaf player

to play in the Major

League since 1945.

I think that

deserves an Attaboy.

- [Campers] Attaboy!

- Hey guys, ready to

play baseball?

- [Campers] Yeah!

- Hey Rob, let's split them up,

and have them go to

their positions,

where we'll do some drills.

- Let's do it.

- All right.

- All right, Bunk 5.

Everybody take your positions.

Hey Ted, center field's

in the middle.

See it, feel it, love it.

We're listening to

Coach Curtis now.

Follow Coach Curtis's lead.

There ain't nothing like

official Major League tutelage.

- There you go.

- Thank you.

- No problem.

Hey Jordy, your brother

told me about your accident,

and I know how tough it is

to come back from injuries.

Gotta think positive,

don't worry about

getting hurt again.

Just think about

performing well.

You can do this, all right?

There you go.

- Anything is possible.

Best, Curtis Pride.

- Good luck.

(crickets chirping)

(door creaks)

- I've decided to stay.

- You're not a part of Cabin 5,

until you've learned

our cabin chant.

- Yeah!

- Yes!

- [Campers] Ackla lacka

ching, ackla lacka chow,

acka lacka ching, ching, chow,

chow, chow.

Boom-a-lacka, boom-a-lacka,

sis, boom, bah!

Jordy, Jordy, rah, rah, rah!

Ackla lacka ching,

ackla lacka chow,

acka lacka ching, ching, chow,

chow, chow.

Boom-a-lacka, boom-a-lacka,

sis, boom, bah!

Jordy, Jordy, rah, rah, rah!

(soothing music)

- Let's take a deep breath,

in through our nose,

slowly out our mouth.

We all have our

different beliefs.

That's a good thing.

I think what really

matters, really matters,

is believing, period.

That's when we can get

into the zone.

That safe space that

we can go to

to channel that energy

that we need to thrive.

Players talk about being

in the zone all the time,

playing at your highest level.

Some people think it's a

stroke of luck.

I think it's when you

are finally,

truly not worried

about the future,

not dwelling on the past,

just in the now.

That's when we can make

the incredible possible.

(crickets chirping)

(gentle music)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

- Jordy.

(voice echoing)

Jordy.

(voice echoing)

Jordy, come here.

It's me.

You're wearing the shirt.

I wore that shirt when

I went to camp here.

I'm so glad Mom packed it.

I always tried to get Rob

to wear it, but he wouldn't.

- I miss you, Dad.

- I miss you too, buddy.

Why are you wearing a mask?

- I need it for protection.

- No you don't.

Why don't you go ahead

and take that off, son?

You forgot what I taught you?

You need to be able to look

into the eyes of the batter.

Stare 'em down, remember?

- Yeah.

- I got you that pitcher's

glove for a reason.

After you deliver a pitch,

you have to make sure

that you follow through.

Glove hand has to go

up like this.

That's right, to

shield your face.

Hey Jordy, I found it.

Jordy, wake up.

Jordy, Jordy, I found it,

wake up.

- Jordy.

I found your glove in the woods.

Come on, get up.

- What are we doing?

- Some cognitive therapy.

All right, Jordy,

eyes on the bat.

Follow the bat with your eyes.

Okay, ready for some pepper?

Now, eyes on the ball, focus.

(gentle music)

Now you're getting it.

- [Jerry] Ruth and I

are so proud.

Bunk 5 stuck together

like a team.

That's what Camp Belgrade

baseball is all about.

We've already scheduled

Camp Kennebec to fill in,

so now that Jordy's back,

if you wanna play in

the championship game,

you'll have to

convince Coach Casey

and the GreyWolves that

you're ready.

- So what's up, boys?

- The whole point of the

championship game

is so kids here at

Belgrade can play,

not freaking Kennebec.

- Bragging right to the camp.

It's always been that way.

- We're ready.

Let us play.

(inspiring music)

- Attaboy.

- Attaboy!

- Attaboy!

- Attaboy!

- Attaboy!

(campers shouting)

(campers continue shouting)

- All right, let's do it.

Your feet, Ted, watch your feet.

All right, so once you

find your set,

bring your leg up, find

your balance.

Yes!

Down and over the top, Jordy.

Don't rush it, Lisa.

Perfect!

Center, you and Lucas's

glove is all that matters.

Get centered, square it up,

kick, over the top,

over the top.

Again, again, perfect!

(dramatic music)

All right, Cabin 5,

gather around.

I got a surprise for ya.

- Hey Rob, do you think you

could wear this microphone

for the championship game?

I know the crowd's gonna be

loud, and I need to hear you.

- Absolutely.

All right, so Ruth had

something special

made for the championship game.

Our team name is the Rally Caps.

(campers cheering)

(campers applauding)

- [Rob] Mouth, that

one's for you.

All right, we got hats too.

- [Camper] Oh, yes.

- Lisa, I have one for you.

Let's see.

Ted Say a Prayer.

- Yeah!

- This one's for Jordy.

Mom texted me the team name,

Pop made sure you got

Number 5, for Brooks.

- What's a rally cap?

- A rally cap is when

you turn your hat

inside out, like this.

It can help will your team to

a come from behind victory.

Some people think

it's just a myth.

They don't believe in it,

but I do.

- [Richard] Wow, genius.

- Richard?

- Here.

- Here you go.

All right, what else

we got here?

Scoops.

(suspenseful music)

- Well, the dirt is

raked, the grass is green.

Championship day.

Let's rock it, kids.

BT and Jerry Nathan,

live in Upstate New York,

and across Camp Belgrade Radio.

We are ready, a big one

here, Jer, here we go.

- My passion bucket is full

of Big League Chew gum, BT.

What's happening?

- [BT] All good, it's

time to rock and roll.

- [Jerry] It smells like, uh?

- [BT] Like Teen Spirit,

little Nirvana?

- [Jerry] A little bit of

Nirvana today.

- [BT] Well, it could be because

these teams are very good,

but it could be unpredictable.

I'll tell you what, this

is what it's all about.

I mean, you go

through the rigors,

you get ready, you practice,

you dream.

It is go time, and

there's a crowd here.

The anticipation's palpable.

This is gonna be a lot fun.

- Gentlemen, it's a 7

inning game.

GreyWolves are home team.

I want you to hustle your

kids in and out.

Use good sportsmanship, no

arguing ba*ls and strikes.

And most importantly,

I want those shirts

tucked in at all times.

- The coach for the Rally Caps,

Number 13, Coach Rob!

- That's right.

- [Announcer] The coach

for the GreyWolves,

Number 37, Coach Casey.

- Play ball!

(Nora sighs)

- Jerry just texted,

game's starting.

He said he'd send some updates.

Ah, gosh, I really wish

I wasn't so anxious right now.

- Yeah, me too.

I'm gonna crack some

walnuts to ease my mind.

- Okay, I'm gonna go for a run.

Okay, bye!

(walnut cracking)

(Pop grunting)

- [BT] All right,

it's go time, here we go,

as Scoops digs into the box.

Let's play some ball here.

- [BT] There's Frankie,

gets set on the rubber.

Sets, he deals, strike.

- They call him Frankie

bag of pasta.

Loves a big dish of spaghetti,

and he's a heck of an athlete.

- Invite me over, I'll

have some too.

- Yummy, and wash it

down with a cold milk.

- [BT] I'm going for

something else,

but the kids, they can

have the milk.

Strike two on the corner.

- They call him Scoops.

He loves ice cream.

He's not gonna have one scoop,

he's gonna have two

scoops of ice cream.

- Well, he's got two strikes

in addition to the two scoops.

Here's the pitch.

On the corner as well,

strike three, ring 'em up.

Did not take the bat off

his shoulders.

And here's Niki into

the box, the left fielder.

First pitch, strike one.

- Strike!

- Swing and a miss.

Strike two.

- Strike three!

- [BT] Inside on the black,

strike three.

- [Jerry] I don't think that's

the end of Niki for today.

We'll see her again.

- [Announcer] Number 4 Lucas,

catcher.

swing and a miss!

- The wind up, the pitch - Boom!

- [BT] We're dealing early,

strike three.

- He's got that live arm today,

baby.

- He's hosing it.

Taking the field,

the Rally Caps!

(all cheering)

- [Announcer] Now batting,

the home team, the GreyWolves.

Pitching for the Rally

Caps, Number 5, Jordy.

(crowd cheering)

(crowd applauding)

(emotional music)

(crowd continues cheering)

(emotional music continues)

(heartbeat thudding)

- Jordy now is looking

into the dugout.

He's calling time out here.

- Yeah, I think maybe Lucas

needs to head up there.

Just give him a little

calm down speech.

- [Lucas] Time out already?

You haven't even started yet.

- [Jordy] I can't do this.

- Remember, just block

out the noise.

You got this.

(heartbeat thudding)

(emotional music)

Come on, guys, come on.

(crowd cheering)

- Come on, Jordy.

- Come on, you got this.

- You got this.

- You got this, Jordy.

- You got this, Jordy.

- You can do it.

- So you see the Rally

Caps conferring

as a group on the mound.

- Come on.

- You got this.

- Let's go.

- You got this, Jordy.

- [Lucas] Let's go.

- I owed you that for

the swim test.

You got this, Jordy, okay?

- Oh look at this, a

little peck on the cheek.

That'll get you going.

- Oh, wow.

I, uh, well - wow!

- Let's go, lover boy!

(upbeat music)

- All right, Lucas, I'm testing

that microphone you gave me?

Check, check, can you

hear me over the crowd?

- Yeah.

- Sweet, it works.

Alright, game on.

- Batter up!

- [Announcer] Number 7, Doug.

- [BT] Jordy winds,

deals, ripped in the gap.

That might find some grass,

it does,

and that's probably gonna

be a double, yes it is.

Doug with a standup double.

- All right, Lucas,

let's go a little high

cheese for Frankie.

- [BT] So Doug's on second base.

Here is big, bad Frankie.

Look at those eyes,

he's locked in.

The pitch from Jordy.

(bat clangs)

And he rips one down the

right field line.

That's got a little steam on it.

That's gonna plate Doug

and Frankie with

back to back doubles.

The GreyWolves with an

early one-nothing lead.

- [Announcer] Number 17, Jeff.

- [BT] So Jordy trying

to navigate a bit of a jam.

Here's the pitch.

- [BT] That is way upstairs.

Ball two, ball three, not

even close, ball four,

and Jeff will draw a walk.

Wow, Jordy losing the

zone as Chase digs in.

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the GreyWolves,

Number 2, Chase.

- [BT] Jordy on the mound,

looks around, gets the sign,

runners on first and

second, here's the pitch.

(bat clangs)

Chase hits a rocket.

Oh, what a play by

Scoops at short!

He runs over second, there's

two,

over to first - Triple play!

- Woo!

- Yeah!

(crowd cheering)

- [BT] What a sequence,

triple play!

- [Jerry] Man, BT, that

is the first triple play

in the history of Camp Belgrade.

- [Rally Caps Team] Two Scoops!

Two Scoops!

- [Jerry] Scoops, you

earned that second scoop

of ice cream, buddy.

- [Rally Caps Team] Two Scoops!

Two Scoops! Two Scoops!

(tense music)

- [Ruth] Strike!

- [BT] Pitch, here's a strike,

strike two.

[Chase] Attaboy!

[BT] Strike three, ring 'em up!

- Well, that was quick.

The Rally Caps go down

one, two, three in order.

Jordy at the belt, winds, fires.

(bat clangs)

Crushed!

- [BT] That one's got a shot!

- [BT] That one is deep,

that one is gone!

And so, after four, the

GreyWolves with a two-nothing

lead

over the Rally Caps.

So, Jordy back on the mound,

delivers.

- Strike, strike, strike three!

- [BT] And here's Jordy

with a pitch to Tim.

- [BT] Hard grounder, over to

Lisa across the diamond to Skip.

- Out!

- Ring'em up.

Grounder over to Tim,

fairly routine.

Tim gobbles it up.

(bat clangs)

Lee a couple of hops,

base hit, right field.

Here's the pitch.

- Lisa, get back to

third, get back to third!

Tag him!

- The throw to third, the tag,

got him!

- All right!

(crowd cheering)

- Here's the pitch.

(bat clangs)

There's a grounder to

shorts, Scoops there,

flips over to second - in time!

Jordy uncorks one.

Oh, that ball is driven

out deep to right.

Rich back, and he gets it!

Here's the pitch to Steve.

Oh, over to second

right to Mouth

Nice field flip over to Scoops,

back to first, do they get it?

They do, double play.

Here's the pitch

That ball's driven out to

center, uh-oh.

- Move your feet, Ted.

Move your feet, Ted,

move your feet!

- [BT] He's in his tracks!

He hauls it in!

- Yes!

Nice job, Ted!

Ted?

Ted, what're you doing?

You can't pray during the play!

Throw it in!

- [BT] A little overzealous

in the celebration,

but what a play by Ted.

So a nice sequence

here for Jordy.

Starting to find a groove,

he's dialed in a bit,

keeping the ball on the

ground, couple of strike outs.

Jordy hitting the zone.

- I think he's thinking

about Labradoodles,

because that's his

favorite animal, BT.

- So here's big Lucas at

the dish, lots of power.

How about the wiggle?

Here's the pitch, Lucas

smokes one, that is deep!

That is a no doubter,

watch that one sail.

It's almost off a tree!

- That's what I'm talking

about, buddy, all right!

- [BT] The Rally Caps on

the board, 2-1,

the big fly by Lucas.

- Attaboy, that might get

the Rally Caps going, BT.

- All right, let's try

a change up here, Lucas.

- [BT] So Jordy back

on the mound, delivers.

Jordy getting in the zone,

another whiff.

- Let's go with a fastball here.

- Jordy with the pitch,

strike three.

So after serving up a solo shot,

Jordy is right back

in the groove,

back, to back, to back whiffs.

- BT, you gotta be

proud of this kid.

He's been through so much.

- He is a grinder, you

gotta love him.

- [Announcer] Top of the 7th,

GreyWolves 2, Rally Caps 1.

- Okay, Rally Caps,

the top of the 7th,

I need everybody to pay

attention to me.

Close attention at third base,

all right?

Step out after every pitch.

We got this.

- Get your Rally Caps on!

- Yeah!

(campers clapping)

- Let's go!

(campers cheering)

(dramatic music)

- [BT] So, Scoops strides

confidently up to the plate.

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the Rally Caps,

Number 8, Scoops.

- All right, here we go, Scoops!

Come on, now.

- Here's the pitch.

(bat clangs)

There's a base hit!

(crowd cheering)

- All right, hey!

Good job, Scoops, get on one!

- [BT] Rally Caps, a

little thunder

over here in the 7th.

(Rally Caps Team cheering)

- [BT] So that'll bring up Niki,

and she looks

fiercely determined.

What else is new?

- Okay, Niki, here we go.

Pick me up here.

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the Rally Caps,

Number 19, Niki.

- [Rob] Let's go, Niki,

come on! Bat on the ball.

- [BT] She gets the

sign down at third base.

Here's the pitch.

And Niki, shows the hands,

goes down and gets it.

Good looking bunt over

to Danny at third base.

Danny, fires it over the

first baseman's head!

- [BT] Scoops is

trying to score!

- [BT] He's gonna make it!

(crowd cheering)

Look at that dugout fired up.

- [Jerry] Niki beautifully bunt

down with those soft hands,

she ran around those

bases like a wolf.

(Jerry howls)

- [BT] So the Rally Caps strike,

they tie things up at

two, we are knotted up.

- [Jerry] Hey, if I'm being

completely honest, BT,

I did not see this coming.

I'm a little bit nervous.

- That'll bring up

bring up Lucas,

and he strides

confidently to the dish.

He's ready to do a

little damage.

Try to do a little mash job.

(bat clangs)

- Here's the pitch.

There's a good swing,

it's popped up.

Just missed it down the

left field line.

Jeff has a beat on it, he'll

corral it, makes the play.

Niki back to tag from third.

Rally Caps trying to

take the lead.

- Safe!

- Safe, she's in!

(Rally Caps Team cheering)

Caps up 3-2.

- Oh my goodness!

(crowd cheering)

(Rally Caps Team cheering)

- All right, Rally Caps,

settle down, settle down.

Great work.

- Good job.

- Great work.

- [BT] So a nice sequence

there for the Rally Caps.

Lucas, the sacrifice

fly give him the RBI

and how about Niki, heads

up and instinctual as always

tagging up from third,

Rally Caps up 3-2.

- I think I'm gonna throw up,

bye.

- Where you going?

(crowd cheering)

What a spot for the young lefty,

Jordy rolls toward the hill.

Bottom 7, Rally Caps up by 1.

Three outs away, but boy oh boy,

they've gotta seem miles away

after what this young

man's been through.

What a day so far.

(phone rings)

- Hey Jerry, is everything okay?

- I need your attention, Nora.

- What is it, Jordy, is he okay?

- He's more than okay.

How do I flip this thing?

He's pitching a masterpiece.

I never thought it would

be this close!

He's pitching in the bottom

of the 7th inning.

- [Nora] What?

- Yes!

- No way!

- Yes!

- Oh my god, okay.

- All right, I'll

FaceTime you the rest!

- Dad, Dad!

- Now don't tell me, he

broke something else?

- Bottom of the 7th!

Jordy's pitching a gem!

- Oh come on, you're

pulling my leg.

- Oh, no, no.

Look.

- Whoa, you got it!

- [Nora] Yes!

- No, no, I don't think we

should be watching this.

It might jinx the kid.

I'm gonna just crack some

walnuts, okay?

- Dad, enough with the nuts,

look!

(crowd cheering)

- Wow, all right, put

it on the big screen.

I don't wanna watch a big

moment like this

on a little thing like that.

- Fine.

- Get it up on there.

- Oh, gosh.

- You don't know how.

- Not really.

- [BT] Here comes Rob, and

it looks like he's coming out

for a pep talk with Jordy.

- Come on, come on!

- [Pop] Oh, there it is,

there it is, it's working.

There it is.

- Oh, good.

- Hey, Jordy.

I can tell a lot's probably

going through your

head right now.

I can see it in your eyes.

- He's giving him a pep talk.

Hey Rob, don't put too

much in his head,

just let him play.

- I just want you to know

that you can tell me anything,

honestly.

Just tell me how you feel.

(suspenseful music)

- I think Niki really digs me.

- Oh!

(Rob laughs)

- All right, I think

you're gonna be okay.

All right, Rally Caps.

Let's do this, three more outs!

- So here we are, bottom

seven, Jordy hanging in.

Resilient, dealing,

here's the pitch.

There's a hopper over to second.

off of Doug's bat,

fires to first, the out.

- Woo, Number 3!

- Hey!

- Nice.

- [BT] All right, that'll

bring up Frankie

for his third at bat,

he is not short on confidence.

There's the pitch, and Frankie

goes down and digs it out.

That ball is deep,

over his head at center

as Frankie coasts into second.

Frankie digs in with two.

- Okay, it's fine.

It's just one runner.

- I can't stomach this.

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the GreyWolves,

Number 17, Jeff.

- [BT] Here's the

pitch from Jordy,

Jeff rips a b*llet

to left field.

Frankie, gotta get on his horse,

whoa!

They hold him up, they

tap the brakes.

Interesting decision as

he holds up at third.

- The tying and winning

runs are on first and third.

Stay on this base until

I tell you to go, got me?

- Yeah.

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the GreyWolves,

Number 2, Chase.

- Niki, move, move, more!

He's a dead pull hitter,

just move, all the way,

all the way!

To the line, on the line,

all right!

- Second to third,

big threat here.

Jordy tries to navigate this.

Here's the pitch to Chase.

There's a b*llet.

That one is rocked down

the left field line.

Niki's gonna have to

turn on the jets.

She makes a running grab,

what a play by Niki!

And how about the hose!

- Whoa!

- Woo!

What a catch!

You go, girl!

- What did I tell you earlier,

Frankie?

- I'm sorry.

- What is wrong with you?

Another mental mistake, my god.

You could've tagged

up and scored!

- I can't take this, this

is too nerve-racking,

I've gotta go.

- No, no, no, no, no.

Come on, Dad.

- My heart is beating too fast,

and I can't take that chance.

- It's a game, breathe.

- All right, you tell

me all about it.

I gotta go.

- Really?

- You know, I just wish that

they had gotten blown out.

To get to this point here,

and then lose,

at this moment, huh?

- Dad!

- That'd be the worst thing that

could happen -

- Stop being such a drama

king and get back here,

please don't leave me alone!

(tense music)

- [Announcer] Now batting

for the GreyWolves,

Number 14, Steve.

- [BT] Here's the first

pitch from Jordy,

little high, ball, one and oh.

That one's in the dirt,

two and oh.

Jordy delivers, strike,

two and one.

- Come on.

Come on.

- [BT] Jordy at the belt,

winds, delivers, way high.

Heads up! Tthree and one.

- Strike!

- Fast ball, strike.

Full count.

- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

- [BT] Payoff pitch,

Jordy at the belt,

winds, fires.

- Ball four, take your base!

(crowd groans)

- Oh that's on the black.

Where was that?

- No!

- Oh, come on!

- That's no ball!

- What!

That's a strike, right

over the outside corner!

- No, no, no, no, no!

- Where are your eyes?

Hey, what, what?

- Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

- What's happening, what's

happening?

- Where'd it go?

Don't do this now, no, no, no!

- Hey Jerry, come on,

get back on.

- Jerry!

- Where are ya?

- Ruth, are you okay?

Do you need new eyeballs?

- Whoa, whoa, take it easy,

Jerry.

- Hi there, that ball was

right over the corner.

That was strike three,

it wasn't even close.

- Jerry, calm down.

- Jerry, Jerry!

- I am calm, I'm not screaming.

Am I screaming, 'cause I'm not!

- Jerry, sit down!

- You know what, these kids

are giving it their best.

They are busting their tail.

- The least you can do is run a

fair game.

- Jerry!

- I'm not gonna warn you again!

- You ump like a chump.

- Jerry, no.

- That's it, you are outta here!

- And you're outta here,

we're both outta here!

I run this baseball program!

- And I own this camp,

get off of my field!

(Jerry screams)

(Jerry grunts)

(crowd cheering)

(crowd laughing)

(plucky music)

- So the bases are juiced,

and the scene is set.

The tying and winning

runs both aboard.

[BT]: Jordy signals for his

buddy and his backstop

as Lucas comes out.

One final conversation

- [Lucas] What's up, man?

- Let's try the knuckle curve.

- Okay.

Jordy, please try not to

hit anybody in the stands.

- I mean, it's

definitely over by now.

Either they won, or they lost.

I mean, Jordy's happy,

or he's crying.

Or I mean, maybe he

doesn't care he lost.

I mean, that would be

incredible, right?

I'd love it if he just,

he didn't care at all.

He just had fun, he was just

laughing with his friends.

But I don't know what's

happening, and it's k*lling me!

- Honey, listen.

I warned you.

All this streaming stuff,

you didn't listen to me,

and we got burnt.

You should've stuck with cable.

- Now batting for the

GreyWolves, Number 4, Barry! -

Alright, so this is the spot

that

Jordy finds himself in.

He has to dance out of a jam.

He's been so good all day.

- 3-2

- Caps up by a run.

Bases loaded.

- Y'all still there?

- Jerry!

- Yes, had a little pause

in the action.

The umpire had a bee in

her beehonkus.

- Wait, wait, wait,

it's not over?

- Bottom of the 7th,

bases loaded,

and the Rally Caps are up 1,

let's go!

(tense music)

- [BT] All right, so

everybody's locked in,

tension's obviously high.

- [Skip] All right, here we go.

On your toes, on your toes!

- [BT] Here's Jordy, who

has been resilient all day.

A steady diet of fast

ba*ls and change ups.

(feet tapping)

What will he reach for here in

the biggest spot of the game?

(bee buzzing)

(tense music)

Uh. Time!

(Fan laughs)

All right, here we go.

(suspenseful music)

(heartbeat thudding)

(Jordy breathes deeply)

(heartbeat thudding)

(ball whooshes)

(bat clangs)

It's shot back to the mound!

(insects buzzing)

- [Dad] Glove hand is up, like

this, to shield your face,

to shield your face.

(emotional music)

(Jordy grunts)

(Jordy grunts)

(Jordy grunts)

- Out!

- Got him, he's out!

- Yes!

(both cheering)

(crowd cheering)

- 3-2 the Caps win! Caps

take it, the Caps win!

Ring it up, ring the bell,

3-2 Rally Caps get the win!

Wow, what a day, and what

a play by Jordy!

(crowd cheering)

(emotional music)

- [RALLY CAPS TEAM] Rally Caps,

Rally

Caps, Rally Caps, Rally Caps,

Rally Caps!

- [Rob] Thanks, Jerry.

- [RALLY CAPS TEAM] Rally Caps,

yeah!

- Attaboy.

- All right, Rally Caps,

let's line it up!

- [Announcer] Congrats

to the Bunk 5 Rally Caps

for the Championship game

win this year.

Thank you to our audience

from the local area

for coming out and supporting

the Camp Belgrade game.

All campers, please meet back

at the mess hall for dinner.

- [Coach Casey] Attagirl,

good game.

- [Frankie] Good game.

- [Jordy] Good game.

Rematch next year?

- Count on it, shorty.

- You did good, man,

you did good, come on.

(emotional music)

- Woo.

Oh my god.

(emotional music continues)

(emotional music continues)

(chimes tinkling)

(Nora crying)

(emotional music continues)

(gentle music)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

- Today, we were treated

with a surprise visit

from Curtis Pride.

He's a Major Leaguer, and

an even better human being.

We're gonna be screening

a video of Curtis.

- Hi, I'm Curtis Pride.

Some of you might already

know my story.

I was born 95% deaf, and

I'm widely known

as the first and only

full season deaf player

in the modern history of

Major League Baseball.

A lot of people thought

it would be impossible

for me to make it into

the Major League.

Since I cannot hear the

crack of the bat,

when the ball is hit,

or hear the voices of my

coaches and teammates.

- [Announcer] September

17, 1993, less than a year

after almost walking away

from baseball,

Curtis Pride is called

up by the Expos

in the middle of a pennant race.

As a pinch hitter, he gets

his first Major League hit.

(crowd cheering)

It's an incredible experience.

What followed was

most unexpected.

The fans knew Curtis

Pride was deaf.

They knew he couldn't hear 'em,

but they gave him a five

minute standing ovation.

(crowd cheering)

(dramatic music)

He couldn't hear the fans,

but he felt the

vibration in his chest.

- Remember, with

determination and hard work,

Anything is possible.

- [John Sterling] Swung on, hit

high in the air to deep center.

Damon back, going way back,

on the track,

he's at the wall, she's gone!

Curtis Pride, in his

first game as a Yankee,

has hit a home run over

the center field fence!

- [John Sterling] Curtis

Pride gets a curtain call.

How about that?

Talk about pride of the Yankees.

The deaf Curtis Pride.

Something, that is

really something.

(pleasant music)

(gentle music)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(gentle music continues)

(upbeat ukulele music)

We're at Camp Belgrade,

having so much fun

Playing baseball in

the summer sun

All you gotta do is

sing this song

Attaboy and attagirl

Come on, let's play,

give it a whirl

We're with friends every

day, that makes us strong

The Belle O'Grady is

on our toes

And cabin six won't

leave us alone

But together, we'll

always be a team

'Cause with your friends,

you'll never have to be alone

We'll always have your back

So you will always

feel at home

We may not win, but

we're a team

Let's do our best,

we'll live the dream

And then you'll see,
