so

[Music]

um

this

[Music]

welcome to the world of amazing animal

[Music]

acrobats

what are you doing henry well it ain't

the laundry that's for sure

it's a circus coming to town and i'm

going to try out for it

you're not an acrobat

henry animal acrobats have grace skill

and style

oops i hope you can pay for that

excuse me on our budget now i'll have to

join the circus

goodbye faithful friend tuesday

it was great knowing you but now

i must run away or stagger away

are you sure you can carry all those

clothes henry those aren't clothes

that's my emergency pizza supply i

should have known

if you want to learn how to be an

acrobat just take some tips from the

animal world

what you mean they might be giving me

some ideas

yes actually and anyway that wasn't a

given it was a spider monkey

just one of nature's natural

[Music]

is that acrobats nuts no these animals

are acrobats for a reason

whether it's to find food to escape from

danger or even to find a mate

[Music]

[Applause]

so all this acrobatics has a porpoise

then huh

dolphin the sun type oh

animals don't always get it right

hey even i can do lying around

not to mention falling down

i don't think you can afford to laugh

until you're a much better acrobat

yourself henry

wow i'm starving okay so which way to

the dining car

henry you're traveling freight not first

class

so no buffet either nope

well there must be something to eat in

all this it's nice to see such

dedication to learning some acrobatic

tricks

elizabeth training has to eat you know

must go faster

you'll never catch the train on that

[Music]

joe henry there are other ways of

getting to the circus

[Music]

there's pizza still on the train

[Music]

that was close hey this guy's doing

barrel rolling too

not quite that's an east african dung

beetle

excuse me he's rolling dung

yep couldn't he use a beach ball like

everyone else

you can't lay your eggs in a beach ball

female dung beetles need the dung ba*ls

to lay their eggs in

so males use them to attract a mate they

give

dung to their girlfriends don't they

have candy

the females prefer gifts of dung oh

of course they do there's a lot of

competition to get the best bits

so the males mold it into ba*ls and roll

it away to keep it from getting stolen

by other dung beetles

well they don't have to worry about me

stealing it

[Music]

so what's the frog doing throat

exercises no

he's jumping frogs may be small

but some can jump over 10 times their

own body length

and red kangaroos are able to leap the

width of a tennis court in a single

bound it's a bird

it's a plane it's for super roll

acrobatic skills can make the difference

between life and death

oh no run bunny run

phew he came within a hair's breath

arctic hairs can run up to 50 miles an

hour to escape predators

[Music]

what are these guys doing drying the

paint on their feet

they're male blue footed boobies and

their feet are naturally that color

they're displaying to attract the female

boobies and

the winner gets the booby prize

[Music]

they may look silly to you henry but

boobies take these displays very

seriously

[Music]

courtship displays are how many animals

judge a mate

the better the moves the better their

[Music]

chances

is that why this jumping spider is doing

the flamenco

kind of he's trying to show this female

he's in top shape that he has good jeans

and the right sneakers to go with them i

suppose

not those kind of jeans this time though

the female spider is unimpressed

maybe he should have tried the waltz huh

[Music]

[Applause]

[Applause]

yay

[Laughter]

[Music]

henry henry it's time for your news

report

what now yes now

out of my way journal lizard coming

through

[Music]

mud wrestling to the olympic event

and millipede in training 400 like race

but now our top story

next winter acrobatics games in

antarctica shop

animals from all over the world have

been getting into training

the skate they're skating the skunks are

skiing and the bobcats are bobsledding

in readiness for the coldest acrobatics

meeting in history

tropical animals are taking no chances

insects are getting insulated and the

elephants are packing their trunks full

of thermal underwear

in this exclusive interview larry the

lion told us how the training was going

but the favorites for medals are the

penguins those aquatic acrobats

who are expected to beat all covers at

the high dive

the swimming and of course the 800 meter

waddle

well let's hope they pick up lots of

metals

and next is the weather the weather the

weather i got it right

or whether i got it wrong a bit of both

henry

really penguins don't go to acrobatic

tournaments

but they are great acrobats that's what

i

said sure but most people don't know

that

i'm not surprised man that's about as

graceful as my aunt mabel running for

the bus

okay so they're not too graceful on land

you're not kidding

i've seen thanksgiving turkeys with more

style than these guys

[Music]

penguins aren't designed for running

their legs are set too far

back on their bodies and even though

they're birds they can't fly

sheech they sure are clumsy

so what are you gonna get to the

acrobatic stuff huh

well as i said they're not very good on

land and they never go into the air

wow but just watch them go into the sea

they're like little underwater jet

planes absolutely

penguins have evolved into expert

swimmers so that it almost looks like

they're flying

underwater oh they glide through the

seas with the greatest of ease

hey that was poetry says who

smart guy but penguins are poetry in

motion

their streamlined bodies make them every

bit as good at acrobatics as dolphins

and

they get my seals of approval get it

got it good

hey henry you're really good at that

balancing it of course

i work with you don't i oh

hey careful there guys

careful it looks high those people down

there look like ants

oh whoa

there's our ants i'm smarter than you

oh henry

wow that really is a high wire so

where's his balancing pole

it's behind him no it isn't yes it is

squirrels use their tails to balance

they're expert climbers

they can climb down trees or poles head

first using their specially developed

claws like anchors

excuse me but that's amazing yep

squirrel's acrobatic skills have helped

them be so successful

that they're found on every continent

apart from antarctica and australia

[Music]

what's his specialty eye juggling he may

look kind of dizzy

but chameleons are expert high-wire

acrobats too henry

that's gonna hurt not to this guy

chameleons have claws like pincers so

they can pick their way along the most

prickly branches

[Music]

just very very carefully i guess

oh this one's easy even i could pick my

way through grass

yeah but can you climb up it well

um or build a nest in it

okay you got me harvest mice can

they're able to live and hunt for seeds

and insects in barley fields like this

because they're 20 times lighter than a

golf ball if you tried this you'd just

fall flat on your

watch it

hey how'd that goat get up there it's an

ibex henry and i bet

you couldn't do it i could learn i don't

think so

ibex has special hooves with a hard rim

and a spongy inside for gripping

so they can easily climb surfaces that

are almost vertical

and with no safety net either cool but

dangerous

hmm

you haven't got to the circus yet then

no

but i'm on my way

and cheap too

[Applause]

you're going to need to be a much better

flyer before you can compete with these

guys henry they make it look so easy

well their wings have had millions of

years to evolve

and their bones are filled with air to

make them even lighter

you're filled with hot air but i don't

see you flying

i walked right into that one plummeted

more like it

[Music]

of all the flyers the hummingbirds are

the most amazing

they can hover to sip nectar from

flowers by beating their wings up to 90

times a second

excuse me but that is amazing

turns have to be precision flyers too

they nest in huge colonies and need to

locate their own chicks while trying to

avoid the effects of other parents

who don't want anyone messing with their

patch

that's like trying to find a lost kid in

a football stadium

pretty much the turns use their flying

skills to hover over the colony

calling out until they find their chicks

now that's what i call a good parent

well one good turn deserves another

henry

oh please

[Applause]

whoa a flying monkey almost

it's a given from the jungles of

southeast asia

they've developed powerful muscles and

long limbs to swing and jump through the

trees

just like trapeze artists safe from

predators on the ground

but this guy's the best of the bunch the

spider monkey

you could say he's got five legs i

thought spiders had

eight legs spider monkey henry two

arms two legs and a prehensile tail that

he uses to help him climb

he can even hang on using only his tail

leaving his hands free to eat

my kind of monkey

[Music]

[Music]

and now ladies and gentle lizards it's

time for henry's amazing golden gecko

awards

the winners for the all-time best

amazing animal acrobat

are in third place

is the dung beetle a little gymnast of

the savannah who just enjoys having the

ball

in second place is the chameleon who can

juggle his eyes

and walk the high wire at the same time

what a star

[Music]

but the winner of my golden gecko award

for the all-time best amazing animal

acrobat

is the shafaka shavatas are a kind of

lemur

and live only on the island of

madagascar in the indian ocean

they have grasping hands and feet and

can hang from

thin branches they also have long legs

and

short arms so they find it easier to

leap around

on two legs and when they move

boy do they move the legendary

leaping lemurs the barnum and bailey of

the animal world

you've been taking your lyrical pills

again haven't you these are my awards

and i'll wax if i want to

shifakas are most at home in the trees

but even on the ground

they have a kind of grace using this

weird hopping motion to dance across the

forest floor

you know if i could dance like that

i'd be out all night long if you danced

like that

you'd be in the emergency room i think

you're probably right

but that's why the chefaka wins my award

for being my

all-time best amazing animal acrobat

no one more time less praying people

please

given up on the acrobatics that last huh

no

i'm going for a group display

i see sharing your amazing talent with

others

are you questioning my cra corn cat

choreography my acrobatic skills again

okay from the top

oh they're hopeless a group display

there must be

something ducks are good at like what

bottom feeding

i can't see it on the posters somehow

perhaps you should have chosen animals

who are naturals at group display

okay wise guy like who

what about these shark-tailed grouse the

males assemble on communal grounds

called lex

and display to attract females and they

sing

too you could call it that the grouse

have air sacs on the side of their necks

that they inflate for added visual

effect

and to help make their booming mating

call even

[Music]

pretending to louder airplanes a group

display is a good opportunity for each

female to see all the males at once

and to pick the best one to be her mate

uh oh snake in the grass

big snake in the grass watch out chip

it's okay henry he's seen it another

reason for displaying in groups is it

can help to drive away predators

you mean their strength in numbers right

these chimpanzees are trying to scare

off the python by making lots of loud

noises

and all looking really fierce

with all this commotion going on the

other members of their group are warned

that danger is close at hand

wow he looks really mad

he's hoping the snake thinks so too this

is the chimpanzee's way of letting the

python know that they

know it's there and that they won't be

pushed around

brave chimps if it was me i'd just run

uh-oh for snakes no sharks

those little fish are in trouble now not

necessarily

the old idea about safety and numbers

can work even against sharks

these anchovies all move in the same way

at the same time by copying their

neighbors

the shark finds it hard to pick out one

individual from the swirling mass

funny i can always pick out the

anchovies from my pizza

very good henry hey i'm not just a

pretty face you know

no comment and a good thing too

hmm

oh

you finally made it to the circus then

huh henry did they find something you

could do

how appropriate a clown at least it is a

circus act

i know but it's not exactly acrobatics

is it

what they can't do that what'd he say

it's a message from the ringmaster i'm

being fired

oh i'm sorry hang on don't you mean

you were fired no

i mean i'm being fired

look on the bright side henry you're

finally an amazing animal acrobat

so

[Music]

[Music]

you
