animal here

now I know I put them in here somewhere

what did you lose Henry got'em are you

sure it's the right time of year for

sunglasses what do you mean I tried to

warn you

thanks a lot maybe now would be a good

time to sort your closet out you know

warm for winter and cool for summer hey

I'm always cool but the weather isn't

you need to be prepared for the

different times of the year look check

out this calendar alright the four

seasons winter spring summer and autumn

don't you mean fall Henry how to say

fall didn't it you okay Henry sure but

only because I landed on this pile of

leaves there are a lot of dead leaves on

the ground in the fall

that's how animals know when winter's

coming it means they can prepare for the

cold or maybe even get away from him

but don't miss out on all the fun

tobogganing snowballing building snow

lizards animals have other things to

worry about in the winter by keeping

warm finding food and standing up by the

looks of it but winter doesn't last

forever

soon come spring and then summer and

then back to fall again seasons can

start during different months of the

year depending on where you are in the

world where you are can also affect the

length of each season but the seasons do

always occur in the same sequence so the

animals know one thing for sure exactly

what season is coming up next

summertime and the livin is easy

I think you'll find it's winter why sure

cold

I warned you Henry you've got to wrap up

warm when you go out in winter yeah

well I've got a better idea Henry Henry

keep it down will ya I'm trying to sleep

I suppose staying in bed is one way to

deal with the cold you better believe it

now don't forget to wake me up when

winters over okay okay Henry have a nice

sleep of course not all animals sleep

through the winter like your friend the

bear for many animals winter is a really

tough time especially when it comes to

finding food

hey it's Santa here sorry Henry

those aren't actually reindeer they're

called caribou oh right on a skiing

vacation huh

not exactly they're looking for food but

there isn't much around in the Arctic

winter these caribou won't survive long

they need to get to the food and shelter

that a forest can provide so they've got

to take a little walk it deal it is a

big deal when the nearest forests are

over 1,000 miles away and to get there

the caribou have to battle against

freezing blizzards excuse me but that's

amazing

it sure is yeah basically dumb walking

the food why don't they just dial for

pizza Henry there are some problems that

can't be solved with pizza oh yeah

really

nah you're kidding he's not gonna swim

in that is he yes it must be crazy

no he's just very well insulated some

animals can adapt to these harsh

conditions you know wait a minute

I could adapt Yeah right with 15

overcoats and a barrel of coffee maybe I

gotta have some home comforts well so do

beavers they live in a very snug home

called the lodge doesn't look so snug to

me

it was covered with snow that snow

actually keeps them warm what snow may

be cold but a thick layer of it can work

just like a blanket keeping the warmth

inside and the freezing wind outside all

the way through to the spring yeah but

where they plug in the VCR oh Henry

Henry Henry wake up it's spring drink

wait no my winner well that's the good

news what's the bad news it's spring

cleaning time oh no oh yes sheesh you're

worse than my mom

they clean it last

great job Henry but but what don't you

think you should have checked before you

hung all your washing outside checked

check what the weather forecast spring

isn't always sunny you know rain showers

are a pretty regular feature in

springtime Henry you should know that of

course I did in many countries the first

sign that spring is on its way

is when all the snow and ice melts

sounds like spring can get pretty wet

yeah but at least the new warmth can

take your mind off those soggy feet

talking of soggy feet it's those

cannibal again

you think they formed a Swim Club

they're not in a Swim Club Henry the

caribou are just starting to head back

to the Arctic when they pass this way in

the winter the river was only a little

trickle but the melting snow was turned

it into a torrent

are they going to be okay sure don't

worry caribou are very strong swimmers

with all the traveling they do they have

to be wow they really are amazing spring

is also the time that animals have their

families after hiding away all winter

frogs suddenly return to their breeding

pools to spawn they have babies in a

pond talk about wet diapers and it's not

just the frogs in her attic the warmer

temperatures bring forth a wealth of

flower blooms that in turn attract a

myriad of newly emerged insects to

pollinate them from bare soil and

silence suddenly appears a carpet of

rich color a world reborn full of beauty

and wonder birdsong echoing among the

leaf Laden branches as the birds busily

collect gossamer and twigs to weave into

their intricate nests what was all that

about sorry I just kind of got carried

away yeah and you should be what sorry

no carried away

Henry it's time for your report Henry

it's time for your special report what

now

yes Henry now oh you are ready aren't

you oh of course I am what was it about

again you're supposed to be telling us

all about how animals tell the time all

right here goes okay so animals

especially birds just seem to know

exactly what time of year it is when to

have babies when to migrate your stuff

and most people think this is because

they have a natural alarm clock inside

them how am i doing so far so far so

good Henry

however most people would be wrong in

fact birds never used to be able to tell

the time they never even used to go

south for the winter until they discover

that you can tell the time by using the

Sun ah wait a minute Henry unfortunately

sundials were real heavy and only the

really big birds like eagles could

migrate because they were the only ones

that could carry them then some birds

started migrating in flocks so they

could carry the sundials between them

with some rope but it was still hard

work so they invented little wrist size

subtiles yeah the only trouble was that

birds don't have wrists so they invented

the clock but then they were back to the

old problem I mean have you seen the

size of grandfather clocks but then

suffered scientists came up with the

idea of miniaturized electronic ax which

was a great idea except they couldn't

afford the 10,000 miles of power cable

of course they could have used that

erease but they still would have had to

carry a month's supply of batteries they

tried solar-powered clocks but that

meant they couldn't migrate at night so

in the end they invented central heating

and gave up trying to migrate and spent

their winters inside watching TV instead

and that's straight from the lizard

hmm so do I get an A or what not even in

or what didn't I even get one big right

not even one Henry let's actually many

animals do have a natural alarm clock

inside them really what happens when it

goes off it's not a real clock it just

means that animals like Canada Keys can

read nature's signals at the changing

colors of the leaves the first frost in

the shorter days and know that winters

on its way so what you're saying is that

animals sense the climatic and physical

changes in the world around them well

yes and that's how they know exactly

when to back up their swimwear and put

themselves on the first flight to Maui I

knew you blow at me in peace have to fly

south under their own steam

they fly thousands of miles often at

night using the moon and stars to

navigate which isn't so easy when the

weather's bad and the skies clouded over

hey these guys flying south they're

stuck in a blizzard they'll have to wait

till the weather clears before they set

off again for takeoff I think they know

that Henry Hale just try to help Henry

if they listen to you they'd spend a

winter watching TV and eating junk food

and that's bad because they're doing

just fine here look they made it all

that way for a feet ah but it's a warmer

field with lots of grass to eat and lots

of friends to spend the winter with TV

and Pecos sounds better all the time

a little overdressed for summer aren't

you hey you can never be too careful

with these pesky Seasons but it's a

really beautiful day today I'm taking no

chances whoa who turned on the furnace

see you're not going to need all that

stuff that's what you think

there I'm smarter than I look you know

uh look someone left a picnic out I

wonder

who I think I

know hey I was here first get your own

food man no Henry what Henry it is his

food he won't mind Bears love to

share what's the matter

I don't think I want to share after all

honey and Termite sandwiches y don't

worry Henry this is summer a time of

Plenty you should be able to find food

easy there's lots of bugs around so I

see you may not like them but a lot of

other animals do especially Birds the

more bugs there are the better it is for

the parents their chicks just love bugs

ah there's nothing like sunshine to

cheer you up after a long winter true

Henry but too much can be a bad thing

you can never have too much Sunshine

pass the tanning lotion and hand out the

ice cold root beers yeah we're all out

what but how am I going to keep cool now

you know how these guys feel stuck out

in the burning Sun too hot to move and

surrounded by swarms of bugs I thought

you said animals like bugs not when

they're mosquitoes and especially not

when they swarm in their Millions

sucking blood out of anyone they land on

yeah but that's only in hot countries

right no they live almost everywhere

even in the Arctic the Arctic but that's

where the caribou live that's right

Henry over the short summer Caribou can

actually lose pints of blood to the

mosquitoes can't they get away from them

they scratch and Shake but the only

thing that works is for them to split up

it's harder for mosquitoes to find an

animal that's all on its own summer

isn't as easy as it looks is it it sure

isn't those poor Caribou they should

have stayed home for the amazing golden

gecko Awards oh no is it that time

already and Now ladies and gentle

lizards it's time for Henry's amazing

golden gecko

Awards the winners for the all-time best

season of the year are

in third place is spring when the

flowers bloom the birds sing and they

stop showing reruns on

TV in second place is winter when the

ground is covered in snow and the birds

fly south to warmer places like uh Bora

Bora but the winner of the golden geckle

award for the most amazing season of the

year is the monsoon season yes in some

places near the equator that's like the

middle of the world they don't really

have the usual Four Seasons it's either

very hot or very hot and very wet the

very hot and very wet time of the year

is called The Monsoon now it is a season

because in countries like India and

Malaysia it arrives at about the same

time every year and just like any other

season you can find Clues to tell you

it's started Clues like what subtle

things you know like 100 m an hour winds

and torrential rain that doesn't stop

for maybe 3 months there's a place in

India called cherun that can get more

than 20 ft of rain in Just 2 months

that's 10 times as much rain as most

other places get in a whole year except

for Seattle of course no even more than

there wow now that really is amazing

just imagine for 9 months the monsoon

countries get unrelenting baking heat

then suddenly the rains come slowly at

first then harder and harder all anybody

can do is wait for it to end and watch

as it drowns everything forests crops

Villages even buildings can be the

demolished by the sheer power of the

rain and then finally it stops that was

some season but how come you chose it as

the winner it sounds pretty destructive

it can be but remember without the rain

the flowers and trees wouldn't grow so

there'd be no food for people or for the

animals and that's why the monsoon wins

the golden gecko award for being the

best season of the year

ah this is the life long hot summer days

it's not summer anymore Henry it's fall

the season of Mists and changing colors

and damp leaves nice strong Breeze

though

ah maybe a bit too

strong hey wait I got the perfect thing

for this

season yeah let's go fly a

kite whoa wait a

second hey guys where are you going

they're flying south for the winter

Henry I've never seen a lizard doing it

though there's a first time for

everything see you in Bora Bora yeah as

long as you've got the wind at your

back this is beginning to get me

down welcome to the windy season Henry

and you're welcome to it Autumn is the

season when the leaves start to change

color and fall and the animals all start

preparing for the winter

animals know the long winter months

aren't far away so they start to

conserve their

energy they also start eating as much

food as they can it could be another 4

months before there's any

more a isn't he cute that's a pica Henry

a mouse-sized relative of the r

rabbit the Pica has real problems in the

winter it's too small to stop eating and

hibernate so in the fall it gathers up

little tiny hay stacks of fresh food to

keep it going through the hard winter

months

ahead hey what's that buzzer doing I

think it wants a little pyan pie Henry

this is no joking matter that little

guy's in trouble don't worry Henry it

can run pretty fast when it wants to go

Buzzard don't be too hard on him Henry

he needs to stock up for the winter too

yeah yes fall may be a beautiful season

but for Animals it's a sure sign of the

hardships to come are those Caribou back

again actually they never really stop

they're on the next leg of their annual

10,000 Mi trik what that's about the

same as going Halfway Around the World

they Brave blizzards Torrance and near

starvation just so that they can do it

all over again that's right an

incredible NeverEnding Journey that

always keeps them one step ahead of the

snow and speaking of of snow what are

you doing Henry absolutely nothing I've

had it with the seasons but you can't

seasons are part of the whole year look

we're back to winter again you mean I've

got to go through all that again yep

every year the same every year right

that's it this lizard is staying right

here but Henry you can't it may feel

cozy indoors but not for a whole year

won't you get

lonely nope I got plenty of friends here

come on guys we got soda we got chips we

got cable we got hey don't go to sleep

the pizza hasn't even gotten here yet

they're hibernating Henry what you mean

they're all going to sleep through

winter well yes to get rested ready for

another amazing animal year a and we had

such a great show on TV to oh yeah

what's it called amazing animals of

course of course
