NARRATOR:Collinwood, .

And Barnabus Collins is hunted down in terror.

For all know that he is a vampire.

But not all fear him.

On this night, one of his victims waits eagerly for him,

though his visit may cost her life itself.

To protect her from Barnabus,

her room has been made safe for her.

But those who are trying to save her

did not count on her own needs.

[ ominous music ]

I thought about you all through the day.

There was so little time before the dawn.

I was afraid.

I didn't know if you had found safety.

Or perished.

I am safe, thanks to you.

Then I have pleased you.

Very much.

But you shouldn't have taken the risk of coming back here.

It's too dangerous.

Your father believed it was impossible

for me to come back here.

He underestimated my powers.

But you must not stay here too long.

You must make other plans.

Find a permanent hiding place, and then...

take me there with you.

I want to be with you.

Oh, Barnabus.

That is what I want.

[ dramatic music ]

[ waves crashing ]

[ theme music playing ]

[ gasping in fear ]

No.

Nanny.

You're all right.

Don't touch me.

They say you're bad.

They say you've hurt Charity.

They say that you'll find you.

I, I let him come here, Nora.

You weren't supposed to.

I heard them talking.

You did something terrible.

I don't know what, though, but--

Nora.

Barnabus.

- Look at me, Nora. - Don't hurt her.

I won't look at you. I won't!

Don't let him hurt me.

He won't hurt you. He won't.

Oh, don't let him. Don't let him.

Barnabus, please.

Nora, nothing's going to happen to you.

Now, come to me, Nora.

No. No!

You must.

Just look at me, Nora.

You can just look at me without anything happening to you.

Come to me.

You remember, not so long ago, you and I were friends.

NORA: Yes.

I haven't changed, Nora.

NORA: Why are they hunting you, then?

Look at me, Nora.

Look into my eyes.

Don't turn away.

Keep looking at my eyes.

And you will see that I want everything to be well for you.

That I'm not going to hurt you.

Do you see that in my eyes?

I see that.

I'm glad you do, Nora.

Keep looking.

Because there is something else I want you to understand.

I'm going away now, Nora.

And when I have gone, you will not remember

that I was ever in this room.

Do you understand?

You must be sure.

So, I will repeat it.

Close your eyes and listen.

And when you open your eyes,

you will not remember that I was ever here at all.

Don't leave me! Don't!

Who are you talking to, Charity?

Who?

You weren't talking to me.

And there's no one else in the room.

Charity, you're sick.

- Let me get your father. - No.

No, I'll be all right, I swear.

You must... you must tell me what...

why you came here.

Just to see you.

Did you, did you see anyone else?

Did you, Nora?

Who else would I see in your room, Charity?

Charity!

I'm all right.

I'm just...

I'm just tired, that's all.

If you'll let me rest, I'll be all right.

Just...

Let me rest.

[ door closing ]

Barnabus, are you here?

Oh, Barnabus.

I feel so afraid when you're gone.

So terribly afraid.

Come back to me.

Come back to me.

Please, come back.

Please.

[ knocking on door ]

[ Nora crying ]

Nora.

My dear child, what is... what is wrong?

She's going to die.

She's going to die.

Now, who is, Nora?

Now, tell me.

Charity.

Oh, Uncle Evan, do something, help her.

will help her Nora, I will try.

Now, have you just seen her?

Nora, was she alone?

Now, I've talked with your father and Reverend Trask

about what is happening at Collinwood.

Nora, was Barnabus Collins with Charity?

Was he?

[ dramatic music ]

[ wind blowing ]

Barnabus.

What are you doing here?

I had to see you.

- Were you followed? - No.

The hand, you brought it here. Why?

Quentin. Quentin came to the old house.

He wanted to see the cure I had.

But there is no full moon tonight.

No, but tomorrow night, there will be.

I told him, we must wait until the full moon

starts to rise before we use this.

I finally made him leave, but he will come back,

and he will look for this.

The hand of the legendary Count Petofi.

Oh, Magda.

What is wrong?

I am afraid of it.

I'm afraid it will change Quentin in some way

that will affect Chris Jennings in the... in the present.

But don't forget, that there is a man in another century

locked in a secret room in a mausoleum,

a man who was changed into a werewolf

and cannot change back.

Oh, it seems like such a chance.

We know nothing about this hand.

What it can do, or what it cannot do.

Legend says that it is evil and good.

- It can be one or the other. - Exactly.

But how do we know it can be good for... for Quentin?

And how do we know that simply because you stole it,

it won't turn against us?

If--if you are scared, then there is a way

that--that we can show what it can do.

How?

Tonight, this night, we can use it.

But you said we couldn't.

On Quentin, no. On someone else, yes.

Someone who needs help.

Charity.

Charity.

[ knocking on door ]

Miss Trask?

Miss Trask?

[ dramatic music ]

Miss Trask.

Who? Who?

He has been here, hasn't he?

Barnabus has been here.

Now, Miss Trask, do you know where Barnabus Collins is?

Where?

Tell me.

Miss Trask, do you realize what you're doing

to yourself by not telling?

You're going to die, Miss Trask, do you realize that?

I will be with him.

You will be dead.

No.

No, with him.

Barnabus Collins is dead, and you will be too.

No. No.

Now, unless you help us, you have no power to resist him.

But you can help us by telling us where he is.

You want to die, Miss Trask, do you?

You want to leave this world that you know?

Do you?

[ dramatic music ]

Can this hand cure Charity? Can it?

If-if you let it, yes.

Of course I'll let it.

I don't want her to die.

It won't be safe to take it to her.

They discovered it.

But you can make her come here,

no matter how sick she is.

[ wind whistling ]

Charity.

Charity.

You must come to me in the cave, Charity.

In the cave under Widows' Hill.

Don't be afraid, Charity.

I will guide you through the forest here.

You will be safe, Charity.

Come to me.

Come to me.

Miss Trask?

Miss Trask, what's happening to you?

What is it?

You must come to me one last time, Charity.

Rise from your bed.

Now.

Now.

Come.

- Leave me. - No.

Yes. Yes, you must.

Why? Why must I?

It is time.

Time for what? Time to go to him again?

Barnabus.

I will not let you go.

Do you hear me? I will not let you go to him.

Come to me, Charity.

You must come to me.

You cannot disappoint me.

Come.

Come.

- Let go of me. - No.

- Let go of me! - No.

[ Charity groans ]

[ wind whistling ]

Barnabus, what is wrong?

Someone is stopping her.

Maybe she has died.

- No, no. - How do you know?

She would be here if she had.

Someone is stopping her from coming,

and there is nothing that I can do about it.

[ cries out ]

Look, look it's gone!

Look at the hand. The hand is gone.

[ dramatic music ]

- Let me go. - Never.

You must let me go to him.

I don't care what happens. He needs me, he needs me so.

He does not need you, he is using you.

Now you know that, Charity.

You've admitted that to me yourself.

Yes, yes, but...

What is it?

Is he out there?

Is he?

No.

Well, then, what is it?

He doesn't want me anymore.

Miss Trask.

He...

He stopped calling to me.

We must get someone to help you.

No one can help me.

No one.

I'm going for the doctor.

[ screams ]

[ gasps ]

[ dramatic music ]

[ shrieks ]

[ shrieks repeatedly ]

[ exhales ]

[ dramatic music ]

Her marks are gone.

Mr. Hanley.

Are you all right?

You should not be here, in my room.

Don't you remember?

Remember?

Well, the...

the hand, the hand that appeared in your room.

The legendary hand of Oshdon.

Mr. Hanley, what are you talking about?

It was here.

He sent that hand, Barnabus Collins.

He sent that hand to defeat us.

You are well.

Well?

I am well?

Miss Trask, look in that mirror.

Get up, Miss Trask, do as I say.

Your neck, look at your neck.

So, you do remember those marks.

Now what else do you remember?

You've been spared, Miss Trask, for the moment.

He will strike again as soon as he feels secure.

What else do you remember, Miss Trask?

[ dramatic music ]

Oh, the hand.

The hand is nowhere to be found.

Nowhere.

[ gasps ] Oh, if I have lost it...

It has gone on a mission, Magda.

Where?

Perhaps the hand responded to my wish.

When Charity couldn't come here, it went to her.

Have you ever heard of it having that kind of power?

Yes, but...

but even I did not believe it.

Barnabus, if it has disappeared...

Oh, I stole it.

That is enough to make very big trouble for me.

I knew I could get it back, though, but now...

Now you can stop worrying, Magda.

[ Magda gasps ]

Oh, it is a miracle.

A miracle.

The hand is all they say.

We shall see.

Take it to the Old House and hide it from Quentin.

I still don't trust it.

I must go and see Charity.

I'll come back and tell you what I know.

You will, you will help Quentin.

I know you will.

I know.

[ bat squeaking ]

[ rooster crowing ]

Where is she?

Why isn't she here?

What has happened?

[ rooster crowing ]

If I only had time.

NORA: I was so worried, Charity.

I know you were, my darling.

But you're all well now?

Yes, I'm well now.

And I'm going to stay well.

I will not fall into the valley of sin again.

Is it a sin to be sick?

No.

But it is a sin to give in to desires

which you know are wrong.

You do not understand. I...

I hope you never do.

Let us pray, Nora.

Because prayer is the only weapon I have.

The only weapon any of us has

to fight the devils that exist.

[ rooster crowing ]

[ coffin creaking ]

Magda?

It is you.

Good evening, Mr. Collins.

Or should I say, good morning.
