NARRATOR:Night over Collinwood in the year ,

a night filled with strange dreams

and somber threats for Carl Collins.

A night in which his fiancée has appeared from the dead

to tell him the vampire is still alive.

And in his old house on the estate,

Barnabus Collins, not knowing of Carl's discovery,

makes his plans.

MAGDA: You're sure you are safe at the mausoleum?

Yes, Dirk Wilkins was destroyed.

There's no need to have any reason to suspect

that there's a vampire at Collinwood anymore.

You're very lucky that they caught him so quick.

I knew they would.

He was not at all clever, but he served his purpose.

I will be able to sleep here tomorrow.

You're sure you'll be all right, huh?

Quite sure.

I don't know, I got a feeling.

No, the hunt is over.

I am safe now.

Vampire.

This is where I will find the vampire.

p*nsy told me.

But I should come to this century,

and find you so like Josette, and lose you.

And that I shall be the one responsible

for putting you here.

Will we meet again?

Will I have a chance ever to right this wrong?

ANGELIQUE: Very touching, Barnabas.

Angelique, what are you doing here?

- I watch over you. - There is no need for you--

Isn't there?

I'm sorry, you surprised me.

- Don't go. - I must.

- Barnabas, listen to me, just-- - It's almost dawn.

I must go, you know that.

You are responsible for this.

You and your curse.

Barnabas, listen to me.

You have very little time left here.

- What do you mean? - I told you once that you might

be trapped here in the past.

You refused to believe me then.

Now, it's almost too late.

Barnabas, come with me back to your time.

Now?

I would not ask you

if I didn't know it was necessary.

I can't, I haven't done what I came here to do.

Forget about that.

I can't, not when I'm beginning to learn so much.

Not when it's within my reach,

to have what I need to know to save

David and Chris Jennings.

Let them save themselves.

They can't and you know it.

David will die, and Chris Jennings

will keep on as as animal.

I must help them.

Barnabas, this is your last chance.

It will be useless to ask you

to explain that, wouldn't it?

Trust me.

Just this once, trust.

Forget about the past and I will too.

Barnabas, please.

Is it so terrible what I face?

You would rather face anything alone

than commit yourself to me.

That's it, isn't it?

- Alright then, do it, do it. - Angelique.

Why do I always think that you will change?

Why do I think that you'll remember how

I have helped you in the past?

Go on, Barnabas, go on.

[ rooster crows ]

Yes, I must.

Barnabus? Barnabus is the vampire?

[ calming social music ]

Well, so you're back.

A gypsy, fresh from her mission of mercy.

Come in, shut the doors.

You must speak softly, Magda, these walls have ears.

And what you have to say to me must be heard by no one else.

Isn't that right, Magda?

You do have something to say to me, don't you?

Well? Well what?

Oh, the same old Magda, cruel to the end.

- No-- - Yes, cruel.

So, you visited with your tribes,

and you compared notes on picking pockets?

And the newest way in telling fortunes?

And you exchanged your secrets of all of your curses?

And you all laughed.

Well, how they must have laughed when you told them

that you had turned a Collins into a werewolf.

No, I told no one but King Johnny Romano.

Oh, but I'm impressed, a king.

[ chuckles ]

Well did he sign a decree?

Did he offer a royal proclamation

that all curses were to end, did he?

You're drunk, Quentin.

I'll come back when you have slept it off.

You hate to tell it, it must be good news.

Is it? Is it?

Then tell me what I have to do.

Is there a potion I can take?

Give it to me now!

Why not?

You've got to.

Do you have any idea what it's like sitting here, waiting?

Counting the days until there's a moon that's full?

Quentin, you've got to wait until then.

Is this one of your jokes?

- Are you playing more games? - No, no I ain't.

[ grunts ]

I don't believe you, Magda.

When, when the moon starts to rise,

there is a ceremony I can perform,

but it can be done at no other time.

Let go of me.

Why are you willing to help me?

Tell me, why?

Ain't it enough that I'm willing to help, Quentin?

I have brought a precious relic.

A miraculous hand that I will put on your heart,

and it will draw the curse from you.

Oh, I have broken many of our laws

to bring it here, believe that.

Are you sure it will work?

I would not have stolen it if I was not sure.

And what does stealing mean to you?

Nothing.

You would take the change from

my pockets right now if you could.

Now, why don't you admit to me

the real reason why you're suddenly on my side?

I did not know,

I did not know.

What? What?

That I would remember how much Jenny loved you.

Quentin, Quentin!

Quentin we're-- get her out of here.

QUENTIN: Carl, what is it?

Not in front of her.

[ chuckles ] Mr. Collins,

what is it, you don't like me anymore?

Just go, go Magda, please.

It's always a pleasure to leave this house.

Oh, oh Quentin.

Quentin, Barnabas would like to see you this evening.

At dusk.

At dusk? Yes, yes.

Quentin, where is Judith and Edward?

Judith is dreaming about her money.

And so is Edward.

I've got to wake them, we've got to do something.

Do something about what?

There are so many things waiting,

we have such a choice.

No, we don't?

Not about this.

Oh Quentin, sometimes I wish

I had never had that dream, I swear it.

What dream, Carl?

The dream where p*nsy told me the vampire isn't dead.

You better get back to sleep and dream again.

Edward described the staking of Dirk

in great, graphic detail.

Oh no, no, not Dirk, there's another.

p*nsy came to me in my dream and told me there's another.

She told me who made Dirk a vampire.

- QUENTIN: Laura did. - CARL: No no.

- QUENTIN: Prove it. - CARL: I can.

QUENTIN: How?

I saw him go into his coffin,

I saw him go to sleep, I saw it all.

Who did you see go into the coffin, Carl?

Oh, you aren't going to believe this, you aren't.

I think you've gone mad, Carl.

I am not mad, now you just stop that.

p*nsy told me to go to the mausoleum.

There's a coffin there.

I swear it, you must believe me.

Quentin, I know who the vampire is, I swear it!

Well then, tell me.

It's Barnabas.

[ laughs ] Barnabas.

- [ dramatic music ] - Barnabas.

Our cousin that we never see in the day.

Our cousin who always appears at dusk.

Tell me exactly what you saw.

It was nearly dawn.

He opened the secret door of the mausoleum,

and he went inside, there was a coffin.

And then the door closed.

Did you see how to open it?

Yes, yes, but Quentin, there's so much I don't know.

A vampire stays in his coffin all day.

He lies there as if he were dead.

At the mercy of whoever finds him.

CARL: He made Dirk a vampire,

and now, he's going to do the same to us!

Where are you going?

QUENTIN: We're both going to the mausoleum.

Wait, but what are we going to do?

I don't know.

We'll have to k*ll him, Quentin.

I'll get a g*n.

Barnabas.

But-but he's my only hope.

Without him, what will I do?

Barnabas.

[ suspenseful music ]

Are you coming?

Are you sure he's asleep?

Are you sure he's in there?

Are you afraid, Carl?

Aren't you?

I don't know what I'm feeling.

[ door squeaks ]

CARL: Why did he have to come for me?

Perhaps, he didn't, Carl.

Perhaps, he's been here all the time.

Waiting, in that secret room, for someone to let him out.

You mean, he's the real Barnabas,

our ancestor?

Oh God, that makes it worse.

QUENTIN: Open the door.

[ suspenseful music ]

You're going to m*rder him.

Give me the g*n, Carl.

Unless you want to do it.

Oh no.

[ coffin creaks ]

[ Carl whimpers ]

Do it, do it!

What are you doing? You've got no choice.

Yes, I do have a choice, Carl.

[ mumbles ]

I'll k*ll you, Carl, if you run.

Quentin, for God's sakes, what are you doing?

What are you trying to do?

I only ever do what I must.

Where are you going?

Well, I'm not going to stay here!

- Don't you know how to get out? - No!

Well then, you'll have to stay here.

Until dusk, at least.

Oh no, Quentin, please don't!

I'm closing the door, Carl.

- Oh, no no. - Yes.

- No. - Yes.

I'm closing it.

And remember, I can do it with one hand

while the g*n is in the other.

CARL: Oh, no, no, Quentin.

Oh, no, no, Quentin, for God's sake,

Quentin, Quentin, wait! [ screams ]

[ dramatic music ]

What's the matter with you? What do you want?

Stay where you are.

Why, why? I told you I'd help you.

And I'm going to find out why.

Oh, so he did not touch you.

You have many secrets, Magda.

Not the slightest of which, how you managed

to live in this house with a vampire.

Yes, I know, Magda, I know everything.

I've seen Barnabas Collins in his coffin.

But you're not going to tell.

Carl will. If he lives.

If Barnabas lets him live, when dusk comes.

Yes, Magda, Carl's there.

Barnabas will k*ll him.

I know, another m*rder, no,

too many people are suspicious now.

Oh we've got to stop it or,

or we will all be found out.

It is in the cards.

Help, help! Let me out!

Oh please, let me out.

Help? You want my help?

After all the little tricks you know, Magda?

Was it the cards who sent you to me,

or was it your crystal ball?

I always wonder how amateurs handle these things.

It was the cards.

You love Barnabas.

Oh.

Yes, yes I know, I have seen you watching him.

He needs your help now.

He always needs me.

Carl Collins is with him.

In an hour, he will wake and he will k*ll Carl Collins.

You've got to go.

You've got to make Carl forget everything.

You've got to make him lose his memory.

You've got the power.

You've got to do it, come with me now.

No. No, Magda.

Let Barnabas learn.

Let him find out how important I am to him.

No, Magda, I will not help him again.

But you will be found out too,

if they find out about him.

His fiancée, no, they will know that you are more than that.

For your sake.

I will take care of myself.

And Barnabas will take care of himself, this time.

Let him try to live without me.

I don't care anymore.

No, it must not end this way, it must not.

[ suspenseful music ]

It must be getting dark, it must be.

Oh, I've got to get out, I've got to get out.

I'll k*ll Quentin!

Forget it, Carl, just be logical.

You know that wall moved. You saw it.

Somewhere, there's a way to open it, somewhere!

There's got to be!

I've got to get Edward, or the police!

Did the top move, or was it my imagination?

Oh Carl, figure it out, no.

It's just like those Chinese puzzles you've got.

[ Carl gasps ]

[ Carl laughs hysterically ]

We'll get him tonight.

We'll get cousin Barnabas tonight!
