A brilliant morning sun illuminates

the walls of Collinwood, and all is serene in the great house.

But not far away in a strange house by the sea,

a desperate man waits.

This day will decide his fate and the fate of the young woman

he has chosen to be his bride.

- Jennings...

where is he?

And Adam...

why has he disappeared?

Everything is going wrong and my time is running out.

I must have Maggie.

I must have her now.

[eerie music]

- Maggie, hear my voice.

Hear me and do as I bid you to.

You will come to me.

You will decide you want me.

You will decide you need me as much as I need you.

Listen to my voice and come to me.

Come to me.

Come to me.

She will obey me.

Tonight we will be united forever...

in death.

[theme music]

[door slams]

- Who is it?

- Adam.

- Where have you been?

- Away. - Where?

- Does it matter?

I wanted to think.

I wanted to be alone.

- Adam, I'm very glad you decided to come back.

Come in for a moment.

I have something very important to tell you, Adam.

Come in.

Adam, I have some wonderful news for you.

Tonight you are going to have a new mate.

- A new mate? - Yes.

Barnabas and Dr. Hoffman are going to do the experiment over

again.

Eve will live again.

- No!

- Adam, she won't be as she was before!

She will be totally different.

- Different how?

- The new Eve will not pretend.

She will be tender, warm, loving.

The kind of mate you've always wanted.

She will truly love you.

- I don't believe that.

- Adam, why would I lie to you?

- Why did you lie to me before?

- I made a mistake.

I will never make that mistake again.

- And how do I know that?

- You know Maggie Evans, don't you?

- Yes.

- Maggie Evans will provide the life force for the new Eve.

She will be as tender and as loving as Maggie Evans is.

- And how will you persuade Maggie to do this?

- I can do it.

- I don't know.

- You don't know?

- I don't know if I want Eve to live again.

- Adam, do you want to be alone for the rest of your life?

I would rather be alone for the rest of my life,

than live the rest of my life with a woman like Eve.

- Adam, I swear to you, she will be totally different

than she was before.

The only resemblance to the Eve that you knew

will be her beauty.

- Why are you so anxious for me to have a mate?

What do you care?

- Because I do.

I don't want you to be lonely.

- I don't believe that.

- All right, I will be honest with you, Adam.

This is something I must do. - Why?

- I cannot tell you why but I must do it.

It's a vital importance!

- There are too many questions you won't answer, Nicholas,

and I still don't trust you.

Right, Adam, do not trust me.

But allow me to furnish you with a mate,

then you decide whether you want to keep her or not.

It can be your decision.

What have you got to lose?

- Perhaps nothing.

- Then cooperate with me.

You don't have to trust me.

- All right, but if she is anything like Eve was,

I will k*ll her.

- She will not be.

You will see.

[knocking at the door]

- That's Maggie.

I will call you when it is time to go to the old house.

- All right, Nicholas.

- Maggie!

- Hello, Nicholas.

- You look particularly enchanting today.

- Well, thank you.

- Well, now sit down and you tell me

what has prompted this visit.

- Well, Nicholas, you're going to have to be

leaving very soon, aren't you?

- Almost immediately.

- Well, then your proposal...

that doesn't give me very much time to decide, does it?

- I don't mean to press you...

- That's all right, Nicholas, I've decided.

- What have you decided?

- Yes, if you still want to marry me.

- If I still want to marry you?!

Of course, I do!

You've made me the happiest man on this earth.

- It's odd.

- What is?

- This morning, I still hadn't decided.

- And then you decided.

- Yes, very suddenly.

- Your decision has made me immensely happy, Maggie.

- Nicholas, I'll try to make you a good wife.

- Oh, you will, I know you will.

- There's so much to think about.

- Don't think about anything.

We're going to be married tonight.

- Tonight?

- Why postpone it?

- But Nicholas...

- Maggie, you're not changing your mind, are you?

- Nicholas, marriage is a very serious step.

To get married tonight and leave this town

I've lived in all my life? - I know, Maggie.

I regret that it has to be this way

but I must leave Collinsport tonight.

- Tonight?

- Yes.

When I leave I want to take you with me...

as my wife.

- Why do you have to go?

- I have business interests abroad I must take care of.

- Where do you have to go?

You haven't even told me that. - To London.

- London?

- Yes, I have a flat there we can move right into it.

- Oh, Nicholas, everything's happening so fast,

I can't think.

- Maggie, I told you, don't think about anything.

- Nicholas, there are things that I have to think about.

- We both have problems but does that mean that you

don't want to marry me?

That you don't want to be my wife?

- No.

- Well, then.

- She's a very disturbed child and you

must be patient with her.

- I understand.

- I'll send her in.

[eerie music]

- Weather forecast: clear, cold, full moon.

Not again.

Please not again.

[music playing]

- Hello, Amy.

Hello, sweetheart.

I brought you a present.

Do you want to open it?

Do you even want to know what it is?

All right, I'll open it.

It's a box of paints.

You still like to paint, don't you?

Amy, I brought this for you.

Won't you even taken it?

Would you say anything to me?

Anything at all?

Just one little teeny word?

- Why didn't you come before?

- I couldn't, sweetheart.

I wanted to and I just couldn't.

- Nobody came.

- I wanted to come.

I wrote to ya.

- Nobody came.

- I know.

I stayed away too long.

Amy--

- You did what you had to do.

You brought me the present.

You can go now.

- Honey, I didn't come because I had to,

I came because I wanted to.

- Did you?

- Of course, I did.

You're still my sister.

Don't you think I care about you?

- Are you going to stay? - Ah...

- You're not, are you?

- I can't.

Amy, listen to me.

It isn't that I don't want to stay,

it isn't that I don't want to take care of you--

- Please go away!

- Amy... - Go away!

Go away!

- Sweetheart.

Sweetheart, don't cry.

- If you're going to go away, go!

- Would it make that much difference to you if I stay?

- You won't stay.

- I'd like to.

- You won't.

- No. I'll stay.

I'll change my plans.

I'll stay right here in Collinsport

so I can be with you.

- You will?

Really?

- I promise.

- You won't change your mind?

- I just made a promise.

A promise is a promise.

- Oh, please don't leave me, Chris!

Please don't leave me!

- Amy, it's all right.

It's all right.

- Excuse me.

- Yes, Mr. Jennings?

- I want to change my room.

Is that possible?

- Of course.

Is there something wrong with the room you have?

- No, no, no, it's just...

it's a little noisy, that's all.

You know, it's so close to the street.

I do a lot of writing.

I have to have absolute quiet.

I want someplace that's very isolated.

- I see.

- I noticed in the back, a window up at the top.

Is that room vacant?

- Yes, but guests never occupy that room.

It's much too, uh, tiny.

Uh, it's too inconvenient.

- Is it the most isolated room in the place?

- Yes, I suppose it is. - I'll take it.

- But, Mr. Jennings, when you see the room--

- I'll take it.

- Well, I better show it to you then,

and you can make up your mind.

[unlocking of door]

- Well, this is it.

- This is fine.

- Mr. Jennings, it's so dark in here,

with that grill over the window, and it's so stuffy in here.

I'm sure you'd be comfortable--

- This is fine, really.

- All right, sir.

- Do you want your luggage transferred up here?

- In the morning.

Right now, can you do me a favor?

- What's that? - Lock me in here.

And another thing, if you should happen

to hear anything during the night, just, noises--

- Noises?

- I sometimes move around and act out what I'm writing.

It kind of gets me into it.

Don't pay any attention to anything you hear.

- I'm afraid I don't understand.

- Well, it doesn't matter.

Here.

Thank you very much for your trouble.

I want to be alone now.

- Thank you, sir.

- And please, be sure you lock the door from the outside.

- Yeah. Of course, sure.

- This has got to work.

- Maggie.

- Oh!

- Nicholas, I don't understand.

- Understand?

Where is the minister? Why isn't he here?

- He will be here very shortly.

Nicholas, I feel so...

- So what?

- So confused.

- Why are you confused?

- Getting married tonight and leaving Collinsport,

it's all happening so suddenly.

- Are you unhappy?

- No.

- You're just nervous?

- Very.

- All right.

I have an antidote for that.

- What?

- Champagne.

- Ah.

- I was saving it for after the ceremony

but I think we can have a toast now.

- All right.

[eerie music]

[ominous music]

- Maggie.

- Thank you.

- To our happiness.

- To our happiness.

[bell chimes]

- Nicholas.

- What is it?

- I feel so...

so strange.

- Do you?

- I feel so dizzy.

- It's the champagne.

You'll be all right in a moment.

- I don't know...

- Oh.

No, no, not now.

Oh, no, no.

Please!

No!

No! Please.

Not now.

No, I don't want it to happen.

Ah, uh.

No. [knocking]

- No.

- Mr. Jennings!

Mr. Jennings!

[eerie music]

[door unlocking]

- Mr. Jennings?

[growling]

[screaming]

- The ceremony will begin and you will be my bride

throughout time.

[ominous music]

- Maggie Evans, I anoint thee with the blood

of the owl, the raven, and the bat.

You will dwell with me forever in the land of the dead.

You will live, as I live, as one of the damned.

Your spirit has united with mine.

Let the legions of the damned salute you!

[screaming]
