My sister married into it, so I'm

- But Carolyn, well, there's no good going over there.

- There's something terribly wrong, Vicky.

Ms. Collins.

- Casandra, something terrible has happened.

Ms. Winters has just heard that Barnabas Collins is dead.

He quite alive.

- Barnabas is not dead after all.

What a relief to everyone.

- Thank God.

- I told you Willy was not to be trusted.

- Where could he have gotten such an idea I wonder?

- I don't know.

He told me the same thing.

But I saw Barnabas afterwards, and he's quite well.

- Would you excuse me, young ladies.

I'm sure this is a great relief to you.

And to us all.

You'd probably like to be by yourselves.

And I would like to have a little talk with my sister

alone.

on your own, you simply failed.

- Something happened.

- No my dear sister.

Something didn't happen.

[whispers] And I want to know why.

- Something got in the way.

The curse, the dream, it should have worked.

Willy told me that it had.

- Apparently, Willy is not to be trusted by anyone.

- I thought it was all over.

And then there was Barnabas taunting me.

I don't understand.

- That's obvious.

It is also obvious that you're an amateur, Cassandra.

And that sort of thing cannot be tolerated.

- Nicholas, please.

- There are no pleases about it.

It's gotten to be too big a game for you.

It's time it was taken out of your hands.

- No.

you can't do that.

This is mine.

And I intend to finish it.

There's got to be some intervening force.

There has to be a key, and you've got to let me find it.

- My dear Cassandra, you're beginning

to sound almost human. Such emotion.

Nicholas, please let me find out what when wrong.

- I suspect that might be your problem, my dear.

How do you really feel about your victim?

- I hate him. - You sure?

- Yes.

- You sure you don't still love him?

- What? - You heard me.

- That's absurd.

- I'm not so sure.

That could be weakening your power as well as your intent.

- How could I love him now? How could I?

- Well, you did once.

Does a speck of that remain?

- No.

No.

- Well, you'll have to prove it, Cassandra.

And prove it quickly.

- What do you mean?

How?

- Do a little detective work.

Find that intervening force as you put it.

Now for someone of your talent that should be child's play.

I'll give you till midnight.

- Wait, that's That's not nearly--

- You are to call me when you discover why

your idiotic plan went wrong.

If I don't hear from you, I'm afraid our little bargain,

our pact is off.

I will have to dispense with your services.

- Oh.

- Oh, yes my dear.

You've had so many chances and all of them bungled.

You're nearing the end, Cassandra.

Till midnight.

That's all the time you have.

- But if I can't--

- Would you like a little taste of what's in store for you,

Cassandra?

A little taste of what failure will bring you?

A little taste of the hour of midnight?

- Nicholas, please.

Please.

[laughing]

- Look at your hand, my dear.

Look at your hand.

[laughing]

[screaming]

- Oh no.
