[narrator] After defeating Leon, the Monarch,

Ash was crowned the winner of the Masters Eight Tournament.

Meanwhile, Goh joined Project Mew and met the Mythical Pokémon again.

Now, our heroes return to their regular daily lives.

-You guys, we did it! -Pikachu!

[Pokémon cheering]

-[Ash laughing] -Pikachu! Pika, pika.

[Oak] That was one impressive win, young man.

Thanks, Professor Oak!

Now, for a poem.

Journey is done Ash returns as the strongest one

Only because my Pokémon worked so hard.

Hm, with that humility, there are no limits!

Great!

[Delia] Though it sounds like you won't be home for a while again.

But, Mom, how did you know that?

Let's call it "mother's intuition."

Of course, I know what my boy is thinking about.

It started when I got back from Project Mew.

I've been thinking a lot since then.

I feel like I want to be its friend.

a Trainer worthy of meeting it face-to-face.

I got the urge to go to all kinds of regions, just like Ash.

It'll be an adventure.

and travel to meet lots of Pokémon and Trainers.

Maybe if I learn a lot more about Pokémon and the world,

then I'll truly be worthy of facing Mew.

[Chloe] But you're going alone?

[Goh] Well, I'd depend on Ash if he were there,

so traveling solo is best.

[Chloe] Have you told Ash yet?

If I do, he'll just tell me to go.

I know him at least that well.

Besides, I'm feeling a little guilty.

It's kind of like betraying a friend.

Isn't it? I knew that you two would absolutely adore this place!

The campsite's just up ahead.

[Goh] All that's left…

What's with this? Where'd you find those berries?

It's got a leek that it can swing like a sword

and slice up all kinds of stuff.

-How cool! -[rumbling]

They've got amazing power, and can dig at over miles per hour!

[chuckles]

[Chloe] You said the same thing when we were little.

[Goh] Really?

[Grookey grunting]

[screeches]

-It's an Abra! -Wow, you don't see those every day.

[all gasp]

Talk about memories!

-Of what? -Hm?

[Goh] When I was little, I stayed at home a lot.

One day, when I was looking through my dad's Pokédex…

[beeps]

[whooshes]

[snoring]

[shrieks]

-[zaps] -Huh?

After that, it would appear and disappear at times.

[gasps]

You sleep for hours every day,

and you can even teleport while you're sleeping, am I right?

[young Goh panting]

[Goh] I thought maybe it was teleporting from somewhere nearby.

[Goh] That day was really hot out.

I had no idea there were so many Pokémon in this park.

Yeah. I saw a ton of other Pokémon, too!

Memories? Hmm… Not any for a particular Pokémon.

[mutters]

I guess I'd have to say it would be all the Pokémon that I ever met.

[Ash] After all, I want to be friends with all the Pokémon there are!

Every single one? Wow! That's amazing.

[Pikachu gasps]

[all moan]

[Ash] Who's that Pokémon?

Maybe it's thanking us for saving it.

You know, you and Pikachu are a lot alike.

[chuckles]

I've thought the exact same thing.

How you both keep moving forward, or how totally stubborn you can be.

[Ash laughs] You know, we are always together.

[Pikachu] Pikachu.

[Ash] Since we started traveling, we've met lots of Pokémon.

We've saved them, and they've saved us.

We've said goodbye to some of them.

But Pikachu's been by my side since day one.

-The best partner I could have. -The best one, huh?

You've got a partner, too.

Huh? Cinderace?

-Cinde. -Hm.

What drew me to Cinderace is seeing how hard it worked to help out its friends.

[inaudible]

[Goh] I kind of wanted to be like that, too.

[inaudible]

I mean, journeying together made me realize so much.

And just how much fun it is to do your best for your friends.

And just how great friends are.

Mm-hm. The old you was always alone.

Back then, you gave off the impression that you didn't need any friends.

But you know? You've changed.

-You've changed, too, you know. -Huh? I've changed?

Mm-hm.

When we first met, you weren't confident with Pokémon at all.

You really turned that around.

Mm-hm.

[Chloe] While I was still feeling lost, I met up with Eevee.

Then together, we saw all of Eevee's evolved forms

and their bonds with their Trainers.

My interest in Pokémon just kept getting stronger!

Eevee did that.

It helped my view of the world to get larger and larger.

I so get that!

With Pokémon, you can go anywhere.

Pika, pika.

And not only that,

you can find yourself connected to anybody in the world!

[chuckles]

[Goh] It's so strange.

Catching a Pokémon seems like a coincidence, but it really isn't!

[Chloe] So you're saying it's really fate? Oh, like destiny!

[Ash] I don't know about that, but one thing's for sure,

I'm glad we met up, buddy.

[Pikachu] Pika.

-[Goh] Thanks, Cinderace. -[Cinderace] Cinderace.

-[Chloe] You too, Eevee! -[Eevee] Eevee, vee!

[tinkles]

[gasps]

[Ash and Chloe gasp]

[Goh breathing nervously]

The stars are really pretty tonight, you know?

I'm taking another journey.

[both gasp]

I'll be heading out, with Pikachu, of course.

You're heading out without talking about it?

And you're doing it without asking anybody?

So we weren't… good friends after all!

[Goh sobs] We're through!

The thing is, Goh is conflicted.

-About what? -Taking his own journey.

[gasps] Conflicted, huh?

But he just couldn't decide all by himself.

He thought that would betray your friendship.

Maybe you didn't realize how much you mean to him.

You're the first real friend he's made.

-Look at the Metapod! -They're starting to evolve!

I hope that they'll all be okay in the rain.

I'm pretty sure Butterfree wings repel water,

so they're able to fly in the rain without any problem at all.

All that was written in the Pokédex, am I right?

[Ash gasps] Yeah!

[Ash] Goh?

Hold on, I still haven't quite forgiven you yet, you know.

-Forgive me for what? -I told you we're through!

-Don't you remember that? -Hey, but you were gonna go--

I thought we should have at least talked about it first, though!

[Ash] Aren't you planning to go out on your own, too?

-Eevee. -[chuckles]

[Rotom Phone ringing]

[Goh] The atmospheric circulation, temperature, humidity, altitude…

It may just appear!

[lightning crackling]

[growling]

[both] Lugia!

[Pokémon murmur]

[Chloe] What's it doing here?

[Pokémon chitter]

-[all gasp] -Lugia!

[epic music]

[all whimper]

-What's that about? -Let's find out!

Hey! Where are you going?

Guys?

[Ash and Goh pant]

-What are you gonna do? -Have a battle!

-But that's Lugia! -What else do you expect?

Then I'm gonna catch it!

[panting]

[grunts]

[zapping]

[both grunt]

[both] Lugia, let's have a raid battle!

[growling]
