Did you two hear the news yet?

There's a strange phenomenon happening in the Johto region.

[Ash] Huh? What phenomenon?

There's a town where the sky was suddenly plunged into total darkness,

and it's been nighttime ever since.

[both gasp]

It's dark all the time?

If it's night all the time, how does anybody eat breakfast?

-Really? -I do think Ash is onto something here.

It could upset one's sleep cycle.

This can't be doing the townspeople any good.

We have no idea what's behind it yet,

but it's bound to be a problem for the Pokémon too.

We should go investigate!

I really want to see what it's like when it's always nighttime!

[narrator] Our heroes have arrived at a small town in the Johto region.

Even though it's midmorning, it's still dark as night.

Wow, it really is pitch-black out.

Pika, pika.

-[Ash gasps] -Pika, pika.

-So, it really isn't night, right? -No, this is morning.

-[woman] Good morning. -It's another dark day, huh?

[woman] When I hang my clothes out, they just won't dry.

This place kinda gives me the creeps.

Yeah.

[grunting]

[groans]

Hey, good morning.

-Hmm? Morning. -Pikachu.

Whether it's good…

I do try to exercise, but I don't have much energy

when it's this dark out.

[gasps]

-[Grookey chitters] -Sudo.

-So it's always night here? -That's right.

I'd say it's been going on for about a week.

That long, huh?

Since it's not as easy to tell the time, no one knows when to eat…

Sudo.

Just have a look, see over there.

Since there's no sunlight,

all of the flowers are wilting just like that.

[Pokémon chitter]

[man] The Murkrow are miserable because everyone treats them

like they're a bad omen.

Murkrow.

[Goh] A bad omen?

[Rotom Phone] Murkrow. The Darkness Pokémon.

A Dark and Flying type.

If a Murkrow is seen at night, it is considered a bad omen,

so many people dislike them.

It does look dejected. Would you like to come with me?

[Murkrow] Murkrow.

[warbles]

[chimes]

[Rotom Phone] Murkrow has been registered to your Pokédex.

Well, I'm beginning to feel kind of sleepy.

But it keeps on looking like night, you know?

-Oh! A sh**ting star! -[Goh exclaims]

-[Ash] Aw. It's gone. -[Goh] Yeah…

[Ash] But it's amazing how many pretty stars are out right now!

-What a view. -[Pikachu] Pika.

[Grookey chitters]

[crickets chirping]

[girl] Good evening! [pants]

Oh, good evening!

Since it's still morning, wouldn't "good morning" be better?

It's hard to keep track.

So, are the two of you out here looking at the stars?

-Yeah, we sure are. -I'm doing the same exact thing!

I'm Tiara. Nice to meet you.

I'm Ash. Nice to meet you!

-This is my partner, Pikachu. -Pikachu.

Nice to meet you. I'm Goh, and this is my partner, Grookey.

[Grookey chittering]

[laughs] Come on, Grookey. Stop.

[gasps]

-Cleffa! -[Tiara] Cleffa!

[both giggling]

[Ash] So Tiara, do you like looking at stars?

Yeah!

I'm looking so I can figure out which one is Cleffa's star.

-Cleffa became a star, you see. -Huh?

Cleffa.

[Rotom Phone] Cleffa. The Star Shape Pokémon.

A Fairy type.

Because it's shaped like a star in the night sky,

some people believe it has celestial origins.

-[Tiara's mom] Tiara! -[Tiara] Huh?

Time to come home. [gasps]

-Good evening, ma'am. -And good morning too.

Mom, these boys were nice enough to look at the stars with me.

That's awfully kind of you. Thank you.

Mommy, may I look a little longer?

Just a little longer.

[light ambient music]

[Tiara's mom] The truth is Tiara has been searching the stars

for several days now.

-She wants to find Cleffa's star. -Find Cleffa's star?

Cleffa and Tiara loved each other, spending every waking moment together.

[Tiara's mom] But a few days ago,

we had a sad goodbye when Cleffa had to leave us.

[both gasp softly]

Tiara was so completely inconsolable

that I finally had to tell her that Cleffa turned into a star.

[Tiara's mom] Since then,

she's been spending all her time stargazing.

[Goh] It sounds to me like she's going over all the memories

she made with Cleffa.

I do have to say there's one thing I wonder about.

It was something Tiara said.

About a week ago, she said she met some odd Pokémon,

and from that moment on, we've only experienced nighttime.

That's amazing!

But is it even possible for Pokémon to cause the night to last so long?

Of course, it must be just coincidence.

-[Ash gasps] -Mommy? I'm ready now!

-We should get going. -Oh, one more thing!

Tiara, do you remember what the odd Pokémon you met looked like?

Let me see…

[Tiara] They were small, but they had big eyes.

Black colors. And shaped kinda like a stick.

[Tiara's mom] It's starting to get late, dear.

[Tiara] Okay, Mommy.

[Ash] So what meal is this?

It's lunch, Ash.

It just feels pretty weird to be eating lunch at night.

[slurps]

Tell me, what did you think of her story?

You mean her odd Pokémon story?

The timing seems too close to be a coincidence, doesn't it?

She said it was black and looked like a stick.

Wonder if it's in the Pokédex…

-[Rotom Phone chimes] -[gasps]

And I hear that you're now a member of the Masters Eight.

I promise you I'm gonna be a member someday too!

You're Cynthia, Champion of the Sinnoh region, aren't you?

My name's Goh!

I'm a research fellow at the Cerise Laboratory, like Ash!

So, um, what brings you here today, huh?

Well, you see, my real specialty is archeology.

I'm currently studying Pokémon history and myths.

I'm also investigating extremely rare Pokémon.

Extremely rare? Amazing!

Normally, I travel to every region of the world studying various ruins.

That was my reason for traveling here to Johto…

When we heard it was always nighttime in this town,

we had to come here and check it out.

Then someone in town told us it could have something to do

with a particular Pokémon.

So we wanted to research it.

-[Cynthia] Particular Pokémon? -Have you figured out which one?

She said they were small and black with big eyes,

and she also said that they looked like a stick.

[Goh] Unown!

[Rotom Phone] Unown. The Symbol Pokémon. A Psychic type.

Unown can't do much on its own, when two or more gather,

they can produce a mysterious kind of power.

And they take the forms of letters from an ancient culture.

[Cynthia] So far, we've identified forms.

I'm actually here researching them too.

Although a few have been sighted near ruins,

they're still shrouded in mystery.

[Ash] Unown, huh?

Would the two of you do me a favor?

Please tell me the story in as much detail as possible?

[both] Of course!

[Cynthia] I see.

What do you think about our theory?

I think if a number of Unown combined and used their mysterious power,

the prospect that they granted that little girl's wish

is a definite possibility.

[Ash] So that could mean…

That means Tiara's strong feelings may have caused the Unown to act.

I think I'd like to meet her and talk to her myself.

Let's get going!

[Ash] Who's that Pokémon?

-Pika? -[Unown chitters]

That odd Pokémon you talked about yesterday…

Great. So how did you get to meet?

[wind gusting]

If I could only see the stars in the sky all of the time…

[all warble]

[Tiara gasps]

[Goh] So that's what happened…

The Unown.

So then, they were involved in all of this.

And after that, do you have any idea where the Unown might have gone?

-[Tiara] You mean Mr. Eye? -Uh-huh.

Why do you ask?

[Ash] Well, if it stays like this and it's always night…

[Goh] Everyone will be sad.

They'll all be sad?

I'm afraid so.

That's why we wanna get things

-back to normal. -[gasps]

[breathes nervously]

[shouts] I won't tell!

I wanna see the stars all the time!

-Tiara… -Tiara?

I don't want morning to ever come!

-The Unown are here… -I want it to always be nighttime!

[expl*si*n]

[all screaming]

[all groan]

-Tiara! -Wait! Please let us take care of this.

[grunts]

[Ash] Tiara…

[chittering]

[tense music]

-[Ash] Pikachu? -[Cynthia] Be careful!

That's an illusion created by the Unown.

Pikachu, now use Thunderbolt!

Follow it with Iron Tail!

[gasps]

-Pi… -[Ash] Pikachu, you okay?

-Pikachu. -All right! I'll help too!

[chimes]

[rumbling]

Man! Now it's an illusion of Cinderace!

Quick, Cinderace, use Pyro Ball!

-Now, use Blaze Kick! -Cinder!

Cinderace!

[Ash] No way. They keep coming back with the same exact move!

That makes it a stalemate, so we can't win!

Let me handle this.

[suspenseful music]

[swooshing]

-It's Garchomp versus Garchomp! -It sure is.

Garchomp, use Scale Shot!

[growling]

[epic music]

[Ash grunts]

-It's flying! -Wow! It was able to stay hidden!

They knew the illusion would use the same Sandstorm!

[growls, screams]

-Great work, Cinderace. -[Cinderace chitters]

-Hey, Tiara! -Tiara!

[somber music]

[Pokémon approaching]

Glad you're okay.

I made a selfish wish hoping for it to always be night.

I'm so sorry.

It's okay.

-The stars really are awesome! -I came up here a lot.

Cleffa and I would play and play!

It was one of Cleffa's favorite places.

Hey, Cynthia?

I'm wondering why the Unown didn't just call up an illusion of Cleffa.

[Goh] After all,

Tiara's most heartfelt wish was to see Cleffa again.

I don't know. Maybe that's not what she needed.

[Cynthia] Maybe what Tiara really wanted was a little extra time

to say goodbye to Cleffa.

Cleffa?

I know you've become a twinkling star.

I know you've made star friends.

And everyone up there must like you so much!

I wanted to say that I'm doing okay on my own,

so that you won't worry about how I am.

[voice breaking] That's what I really wanted!

-[Unown chitters] -Huh?

-The Unown. -Just wait.

[both gasp]

[all warble]

No matter how far apart you may be,

I know you and Cleffa are always gonna be friends!

-That's right! -Hmm.

You may not see the stars in the daylight, but they are always in the sky.

Even right at this very instant, Cleffa's right there for you.

Huh? Where are the Unown?

-They're gone! -[Cynthia] They vanished?

They're as mysterious as they can be.

[chitters]

[narrator] Our heroes have had quite an unusual small town experience,

but there are still so many more mysterious Pokémon to meet,

as the journey continues!
