This is the story of their adventure-filled journey

through the world of Pokémon!

[announcer] It’s the Vermilion City Pokémon Grand Eating Contest!

From every region, we’ve got seasoned contestants who know how to eat!

And that includes a few newcomers who feel like this is their magic moment

to really shine!

They’re ready to face past winners, like last year’s champ, Snorlax!

But wait! This time we are especially honored to have

the eating contest legend who has traveled the globe to world-wide acclaim,

Emperor Blaziken!

[all cheering]

-Yay, Blaziken! -[Cerise chuckling]

The winner will receive tickets to Unova,

plus as much food as they want at every one of Unova’s gourmet eateries!

Contestants, are you ready to eat?

[narrator] It appears Ash and Goh have entered their Pokémon

into an eating contest!

But we have to go back a few days to find out why.

Everybody, come and get it!

Has your tummy turned into a bottomless pit?

Vermilion City’s eating contest is famous for attracting top talent!

This year, they’ve even invited the odds-on favorite,

none other than eating contest legend, Emperor Blaziken!

Sounds perfect for us!

-[Ash gasps] -Skwovet and I are willing to take on

the best there is, no matter where they come from!

-[Dragonite chatters] -‘Kay, Dragonite? Let’s win!

And we’ll be the lucky ones who reap the rewards in Unova!

will be lucky enough to move on to the next round!

I can’t believe I’m seeing Emperor Blaziken in the flesh!

Who knew you were an eating contest superfan?

Saying it’s moving is a stretch.

It’s good to see something new.

And once you do, you’ll be hooked for life!

[Meowth] It may have three heads, but it’s only got one tummy.

Which means it gets full three times faster!

-[Bishap grunts] -[announcer] No! Bisharp mistakenly

That’s what happens when you get too worked up.

You’re asking for mistakes!

All right, let’s see how our smaller rookies are doing!

Are they slower than the much larger Pokémon?

Or are they eating more carefully?

They eat slowly so they can avoid eating the seeds!

If smaller Pokémon eat the berry whole, they fill up much quicker.

So they avoid seeds, even if it takes them more time.

Folks, rules state you don’t have to eat seeds.

The problem is you lose a lot of time!

Will the small rookie Pokémon be eliminated before the next round?

Oh? Well, maybe one will pass.

[announcer] Morpeko!

Look at that expression! Ravenous and hangry,

it’s showing no mercy as it eats entire berries whole!

-Eat! [giggling] -[Morpeko grunting]

Could this be the rise of an eating star?

-Go, go, go, go. -[all] Morpeko!

[announcer] But here’s another little one who’s gobbling at the speed of sound!

It’s Skwovet!

And you can eat all that you want!

-[trainers gasp] -Oh, man.

Now, that’s our Skwovet!

[Chloe] Is it all right with its stomach like that?

[announcer] What strategy!

That's one way to separate the seeds from the berries with minimal time loss!

Round Two’s feature will be one-on-one bouts

with the winners moving on to the final round!

We’ll draw lots, and the ones with the same color will face off!

Emperor Blaziken is up against champ Snorlax in the first match!

It can't be! And this is just Round Two!

Two champions? Facing off in a duel?

And that’s not all. Those two have a history with each other!

[Chrysa] The famous incident when Blaziken won its debut match

but it was Snorlax who kept battling hard all the way to the end.

Oh, wow. You know your stuff.

Snorlax was so upset by its loss that it began going to contests everywhere,

training hard and waiting for the next face-off with Blaziken!

[both gasps]

[Jessie chuckling]

Rigging the bracket was a piece of cake!

This way, the top tummies get stuffed.

All contestants have taken their places!

-[Snorlax chatters] -[Blaziken grunts]

-At table two, it’s Morpeko and Glalie! -[Morpeko yelling]

Table three? It’s Skwovet versus Muk!

So it’s you and me.

Your demise will be a treat!

One contestant from each pair drew this special symbol.

They will decide the menu!

with both contestants eating furiously!

eating with dignity befitting royalty!

And table two is hard at work on that piping-hot sweet berry stew!

[yelling]

Morpeko’s anger is fierier than the heat of the berry stew.

It’s embracing the raging heat!

And how is Glalie doing?

You maybe wondering how Ice types are able to eat boiling-hot foods.

Well, Glalie can freeze anything and eat it with crunchy abandon!

Glalie, use Freeze-Dry!

Glalie!

You fell for it!

You’ve also frozen the pot, so how will you eat the contents?

Oh, no!

[announcer] Look at Glalie! With a frozen pot like that,

it can’t eat what’s in it! A bitter mistake indeed!

The rules also state you can order more only after you’ve eaten the previous dish.

Clean the plate with aplomb!

[all] Seconds coming right up! Tra, la, la!

And table three has the Pecha Berry tart!

Look at that! Skwovet eats like it’s a favorite but Muk is not amused!

Doesn’t like sweets, huh? Must leave a sour taste.

-[grunts] -[Goh] I saw it.

[Goh] You came over to taunt me,

but when they showed up with those cookies, you all but ran away!

You were trying to keep Muk from seeing food that it hates,

so it wouldn’t lose morale.

What if I did? Your loss is still going to be such a treat!

Muk is a true pro.

It’s undergone training to eat food it does not like on a daily basis.

Can the same be said of Skwovet?

No matter how much it may like a food, eating it repeatedly will make it sick!

[announcer] Look! Skwovet’s eating has ground to a halt! This could be the end!

Eating contests are a true test of one’s perseverance!

Heh. I figured that this would happen.

Now Skwovet, use taste change!

[announcer] Its Trainer wants Skwovet to pour Tamato Berry juice on its tart!

The spiciness of the Tamato Berry made the tart’s sweetness disappear,

cleansing Skwovet’s palate!

Goh sure knows how to fight!

[announcer] That’s just what Skwovet needed for a comeback!

The rules state that contestants can add their own seasonings!

[announcer] We’re now into the final sprint to the finish at every table!

and it’s sporting a winning smile! Gobbling sponge cakes with gusto is a gas!

The “I’ll do it my way” attitude of Skwovet!

They’re piling plates up to the sky!

But now let’s see how the champ’s doing! Emperor Blaziken!

Of course, Blaziken once evolved from Torchic.

[announcer] It’s just one shock after another!

[announcer] Morpeko has left the table!

Leaving Skwovet alone!

One plate stands between Skwovet and Morpeko! One more and Skwovet wins!

This is it! You’ll beat Morpeko for sure!

[Skwovet groans]

There’s no room for more.

[announcer] All it needs is one more plate,

but Skwovet’s small body simply can’t accommodate another bite!

Then I guess that’s it.

You sure?

[annoucner] Wait!

Don’t count Skwovet out just yet!

It’s downing those sponge cakes once again, with vigor!

Why did it start again?

There’s only one reason! Have food, will eat!

-All right! -[Pikachu cheers]

and destroyed Morpeko’s record number of plates!

Newly evolved from Skwovet, Greedent has eaten enough to become our winner!

[all cheering]
