[narrator] This young man is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town.

Together with his partner Pikachu, he battles and catches Pokémon.

It's all part of his journey as a Pokémon trainer.

-Pika! -Professor Oak! [pants]

Actually, a protégé of mine has just opened a brand-new research facility

in Vermilion City.

-A new research lab? -Mm-hmm.

And I was hoping to invite you to the opening ceremony.

But now, I'm gonna become a Pokémon master with my buddy by my side!

our planet plays host to this mysterious life-form

in forests, in the sky, and under the seas.

No matter where you go in this world, you will undoubtedly find them.

And so, as Pokémon and humans live together in our world,

they bond with each other in many ways.

We at the Cerise Laboratory

are dedicated to uncovering the mysteries of Pokémon in every region,

investigating, analyzing, digging deep, and expanding our knowledge.

Because to know Pokémon is to know the world,

and that is the very key to making it a better world

for each and every one of us!

and that's the reason I brought your homework here with me.

an extremely rare Pokémon might just appear over Vermilion Port.

So that's how its back fins move.

After all, it is Lugia, so that's exactly how it should be!

It's because of you two that I've learned things about Lugia

no one's ever known!

Will you do me the honor of becoming research fellows at my laboratory?

What's a research fellow?

It's a special research position, of course!

You'll get to meet the many kinds of Pokémon in this world,

sharing ideas, communicating, and so much more.

You'll be deepening our understanding of Pokémon.

All of us, as a team!

I've been waiting to hear those words. It's reality!

It's my future and I can hold it in the palm of my hand!

-Professor Cerise! Me! I'll do it! -[grunts, growls]

Great! Then you'll both agree to my proposal?

Yeah, but I'll help you out more than Ash will!

-[overlapping arguing] -Are you sure you'll be all right, dear?

It'll be a huge commute from here to Pallet Town, you know?

-[grumbles] -Not a problem.

[Ash and Goh] Hmm?

-[Ash gasps] -[Yamper panting]

-[both gasping] -Pika!

[Ash chuckles]

-We're gonna be live-in researchers! -Awesome!

Oh, man, live-in is the best!

-[Goh] I call the top bunk! -[Ash] Hey! Hold it!

-I got top-bunk dibs! [grunts] -You look like you roll in your sleep,

-so you're on the bottom! -I do not!
