NARRATOR Immediately upon arrival to Dewford Island

Ash went to the Dewford Gym

where he challenged Brawly, the Gym Leader.

During their long battle, Ash discovered Brawly

was an excellent Trainer, who'd taught his Pokémon

how to roll with the opponent's punches.

Ash soon realized he was faced

with a tougher battle than he expected.

With his heart set on a second badge

Ash pushed Taillow and Treecko to the limit

but when Brawly's Makuhita evolved into a Hariyama

Ash had no hope for a victory.

The match ended in defeat.

But even more upsetting to Ash

was the damage his Treecko endured

because of him.
