Previously on Sheriff Country...

Cychlorphine. It's a synthetic opioid

several times more lethal than fentanyl.

When the paper is burned,
the smoke is highly

intoxicating and deadly.

DONNA: First time I tried it,
it's almost like a game.

It's that boyfriend.
I bet he gave her that garbage.

Couple more times and I
knew I was in trouble.

So, tell me about your boyfriend, Donna.

His name is Michael.

Up in Deadwater.

They got a bunch of girls up there.

BOONE: The Stoyanovs.

They're behind all this.

CASSIDY: This is where they
found Punch and Andy's mom.

There were people fighting.

My mom and someone else.

I know you think he k*lled your mom.

Yeah, with good reason.
You see this scar?

Andy gave it to me.

I'm in. I will help you
take down the Stoyanovs.

Not for you.

But for Edgewater.

ANNA: That's called a banitsa.

Would you like to try one?

You good, old man? You need some water?

[laughs softly]

I'm surprised we can afford the glass.

Or the water.

You know, you're gonna
put us out of business

giving every kid who comes
in here something for free.

Give me grandkids to spoil, then.

- [stifled laugh]
- I...

- I'm working on it.
- Mm, work faster.

- Pops, you gonna help me out here?
- SAM: Sonny.

Oh, that's the flour delivery.
I'll take care of it.

SONNY: No, no, no.
You've been on your feet all day.

Let me.

This couldn't wait till later?

[muffled whimpering and shouting]

- Are you out of your mind?
- PETAR: It's Michael.

It's the kid who was dating Donna,
the b*tch who called the sheriff.

And-and you brought him here?

My mother's inside.

- You said you wanted proof.
- Proof, not an evidence trail.

Take him up to Deadwater,
tell Joey to do his thing.

You think you can handle that, Petar?

[laughs softly]

- [mutters in Russian]
- [door opens]

Target's approaching.

Clear for entry?

EVA [over radio]: Clear. Let him in.

You could've parked this
tin can a little closer.

Took me an hour to get out here.

For your safety, Dad.

EVA: Mickey's right. The only people

who can know that you're working
as an informant are in this tin can.

Might as well get used
to the commute, Wes.

- What?
- This trailer is your new home.

[scoffs]

No. Uh-uh.

I mean, it's one thing to be a rat...

- Calm down, Dad.
- No, no!

She is not shoving me in a rathole

- out in the middle of nowhere.
- Hey.

There are trafficked girls being
held against their will up in Deadwater

and a synthetic opioid spreading
like wildfire through my town.

Can you cut the crap so we can tell you
what it is we're gonna do about it?

You already have a relationship
with Petar Baharov,

Stoyanov family underboss.

We want you to use that
relationship as leverage,

to take down the family itself.

Konstantin Stoyanov.

He made the cartel a force
to be reckoned with,

primarily running protection
rackets in Los Angeles County.

He had a stroke two years ago,

and his son Konstantin Junior,

also known as Sonny, took over.

MICKEY: Sonny is the one who expanded
the cartel's reach beyond just cannabis

and into sex trafficking and opioids.

He's ruthless, but he's
still getting his sea legs.

Hmm.

And who might this be?

Sonny's mother, Anna.

Konstantin bought her
the Little Sofia Bakery

so she'd have something to do

and the cartel would have a
place to conduct its business.

We don't believe that she
has any significant role

in the family's ill*gal activities.

She's basically a civilian.

And a fox.

Uh, small "F."

[clears throat] Uh, well,
who knows what's possible?

I don't think that's a good idea.

Thought you'd be a fan
of the honeypot angle.

I mean, you used it
pretty successfully on me.

I was hoping I could maybe
get a few pointers from you.

Work your way into Petar's heart.

He bought some land from you
a couple weeks back, right?

Mm-hmm.

- Offer to buy it back.
- Why would I do that?

You offer to buy it back and
you promise him a sweetener.

Something he doesn't have to
kick upstairs to the boss.

Then the two of you have a secret.

MICKEY: And we have leverage.

We can compel Petar to cooperate.

If he refuses, we threaten to tell Sonny

about the sweetener.

So, I get him to trust me,
then I pull the rug.

- Gets easier the more you do it.
- Yeah, for some people, maybe.

See, I don't find it all
that easy just to lie.

EVA: Really? Seems like it was
pretty easy for you to lie to Mickey.

Enough! Okay?

Guys, I have spent the last
two days working my sources,

trying to figure out where those
girls are being held prisoner,

and no one is talking.

This is the best way to bring them home,

and that is all I care about,
not this rehashing

of our nonsense.

It's in the past.

We've moved on.

- Right?
- Right.

Right.

SHARON: Okay, so,
let me get this straight.

In the past month, your dad betrayed you

and then your boyfriend turned
out to be a total criminal,

and then your mom rose from the dead?

Among other things.

How are you not on the floor?

I was on the floor.

That's what happens when
you chase vodka with gin

and then you finish it off
with some Jägermeister.

Jägermeister.
That is just a cry for help.

Yeah. You know, I never
had crazy college years,

so I fit it all in four hours.

Look, after I had it
all out of my system,

I was okay about the whole thing.

Oh, come on, Mickey.

As a fellow member of
the Crazy Mom Club,

I have been mad at Ruby for
a lot longer for a lot less.

Yeah, but Ruby was in your life.

Eva left when I was six? [stammers]

It's like she's a total stranger.

Anyway, she can't hurt me.

- You sure about that?
- Yes.

So, I didn't ask you in
my office for breakfast

to talk about Eva.

I need help on a case.

And before you say no, I want you
to remember, I'm your favorite sister.

What do you think?

Wow.

I have to say I'm impressed.

- BOONE: Yeah.
- My stitches are perfect.

By the way, don't think I don't know why
you came to me instead of Dr. Henshaw.

You're much cuter than Dr. Henshaw.

- This is true.
- [chuckles]

But also, Dr. Henshaw ordered
you to go on desk duty.

[groans]: Yes,

I did ding myself up a bit, didn't I?

And I was hoping we could
keep it between us.

Hey, you want to treat your
body like a crash test dummy,

risk a hemorrhage or a long-term injury?

- Your body, your choice.
- Except that it's not,

because, you know, when you're a cop,

you don't really get to
choose what kind of day

you're gonna have,
the world out there does, and...

if I don't show up, somebody could die.

Or you could die,
and that would suck for me.

People forget I'm an actual doctor.

You know, it's been kind of nice having
a guy on my table who still has a pulse.

I'm so lucky. You've
got such low standards.

What's it say about you that
you're struggling to meet them?

Desk duty, huh?

- Hmm.
- You have a lot to live for.

You make a strong argument.

There's also a Weyes
Blood concert coming up

I could be talked into.

That'll give me something to look forward
to when I'm bored to tears on desk duty.

- CASSIDY: Any big birthday plans?
- [bell chimes]

Okay, look, Hank, there's a reason
why I didn't tell you what happened

- to Mickey the other night.
- HANK: Yeah.

You don't trust me.

- That's not true.
- Can we just focus

on the Elliot case, please?

Fine. I left word with Sylvia Bekins.

I want to question her again,
figure out why

she told us she barely knew Mary Elliot

when Punch and Andy told
us they were best friends.

Not to mention,

she and Mary were supposed to get
together the night Mary was m*rder*d.

I don't know, Campbell.
I still like Andy for it.

Andy was cleared 30 years ago.

- He wasn't cleared.
- [phone ringing]

He was never charged. Big difference.

Dispatch.

Iglesias.

We're on it.

Looks like we'll get to question
both our favorite suspects.

Andy just broke into Sylvia's house.

- Sheriff's office.
- OWEN: Andy, calm down!

- ANDY: Tell me the truth!
- Be careful!

[glass shatters]

- Hey. Hey. Hey, Andy?
- What took you so long?

- Put the golf club down.
- Don't tell me what to do.

- Do something. He's lost it!
- The deputies said you lied.

They said you told them you
weren't my mom's friend.

- You put him up to this?
- SYLVIA: Andy, honey,

I promise you...

- Why did you lie?!
- CASSIDY: Andy,

I need you to calm down and
put the golf club down.

Were you at the house the
night my mom was k*lled?

Please!

I just want to know what
happened to my mom! Please...

- CASSIDY: Hank, wait! Don't hurt him!
- Get away from my mom!

- Stop, stop.
- Don't hurt him, please.

- Please, stop!
- [grunting]

SYLVIA: Stop!

[gasping]

[heart beating slowly]

Mom.

- Mom! Mom.
- CASSIDY: Sheriff One, Edward 9.

Code 3 medical. I need an
ambulance at my location.

I repeat, we need an ambulance.

- [radio beeps]
- Mom.

MICKEY: When I was a kid,
I wanted to be a zookeeper.

This is sort of like that.

Owen is threatening to sue because
his mother's at Edgewater Memorial,

with, thankfully, a panic attack,

- not a full-blown coronary.
- Hmm.

Andy's in a holding cell for
breaking into Sylvia's house.

Which means Punch is being...

His Punchiest.

You need a lion tamer.

Do I have to call you that?

Depends on how bad you need my help.

- Bad.
- All right.

You and Deputy Director
Santos do your thing.

- I'll handle Punch and Owen.
- PUNCH: I am calm!

I'm calmly demanding you
shut this investigation down

- immediately.
- OWEN: I've known Punch a long time.

Which means I've known Andy a long time.

I-I haven't seen him act
this violent in years.

He could've k*lled my mom.

B-Because your deputies riled him up!

PUNCH: You know the
last time I got a call

that my brother had been arrested?

It was the night of my mother's m*rder.

BOONE: Punch,
Cassidy and Hank just dug up

new evidence in a 30-year-old case.

So, while I-I understand that it may
have dredged up a lot of emotions,

no, I'm not shutting
down this investigation.

That's your read?

I hope you enjoy standing in
Mickey's office, Lieutenant Boone,

because you will never occupy it.

I can't believe I ever thought
you had what it takes to be sheriff.

I had Andy under control.

- Really? 'Cause that's not how it looked.
- Yes.

Okay, shut up, both of you, please.

I'm taking over this investigation.

CASSIDY: Wait, what?

- This is my case, Boone.
- [laughs]

You can't do that.

Okay, you can do that,
but aren't you supposed to be on desk duty?

Well, that was the plan,

but thanks to whatever it is
that's going on with you two,

I don't have a choice.

What is going on with you two?

Hank is mad because...

- Cassidy's being totally...
- Enough, guys.

You don't get to have feelings
unless they're about the case.

Okay, I feel that I
should go to the hospital

and ask Sylvia Bekins
about the discrepancies

- in her account.
- And I feel...

Shut up.

Get out of here, Campbell.
Go question Sylvia.

Now do we talk about my feelings?

Not hungry?

Hey. [chuckles]

No, I guess I lost my
appetite. [chuckles]

I carry mine around with me.

Plus, uh, when I'm angry,
I-I like to eat.

What do you have to be angry about?

You're a free man, Wes Fox.

Oh, well, um,

I'm working with my ex-wife,
who I thought was dead.

Uh, my daughter...

she wishes I was dead.

Um...

starting to think there's worse things
than being locked up.

Oh, talked to Skye.

She tells me things are not
really going well at Fraley Horizons.

Yeah, between the DEA investigation

and my sister sitting in jail...
where she should be...

and our liquidity crisis, I, uh...

If I don't find an influx of cash soon,

I'm gonna have to sell the company.

Maybe that'll help.

Look, Wes, I appreciate this,

I really do, but I would need,

I don't know, a hundred of these bags
to solve my cash flow issue...

Or maybe just 50.

- This is a lot of money.
- Mm-hmm.

Wes...

I helped you liquidate
all of your assets,

and we transferred everything
into a trust for Skye.

How did you scare up this much cash?

What kind of true operator's not
gonna squirrel away a little?

[chuckles softly]

EVA: Your father is a canny operator,

but I don't think we
should put all our eggs

into that particular basket.

I've obtained a warrant to
plant a listening device

in the Little Sofia Bakery.

I have an agent on standby,

ready to pose as a health inspector

- to install the device.
- That's not gonna work.

I admit, it's a little theatrical,
but necessary, I think.

The Stoyanovs are famously paranoid.

Which is fine, but the health
inspector play is terrible.

Mickey, I think we
need to clear the air.

I know you have strong feelings
about my presence here,

and it is understandable...

I don't have any personal
feelings towards you, Eva.

Strangers walk in and out of this office
every day, I work with them just fine.

It's not a good plan because
the Little Sofia Bakery

has an even-numbered address.

In Edgewater, businesses
with even-numbered addresses

have their health
inspections in the fall.

A second inspection
would raise alarm bells.

I see.

But don't worry,
I have a good backup plan.

Knock, knock.

So, in Edgewater, health inspections
happen on an annual schedule.

But fire inspections are like a rash.

We can crop up at any time.

Deputy Director Eva Santos,

DC Sharon Leone.

My sister. I read her in.

You can send her into the bakery
with a Fed dressed as a firefighter.

He can plant the bug.

Pleased to meet you, Sharon.

Oh, we've met. I used to
go with Mickey every year

to your grave on the
anniversary of your death.

You know, for a dead woman,
you look great.

What's your secret?

A working heart?

Oh, no, the jury's
still out on that one.

SYLVIA: Is Andy okay?

I don't want to press charges.

Okay.

Say we release him. Then what?

He just goes back living on the streets.

Andy hasn't been okay since the
night his mother was m*rder*d.

Trust me, whatever you're holding onto,

it's not going away on its own.

You got to face it.

The day I met Mary...

...I'll never forget it.

My husband was passed out drunk.

My son Owen was working at the pharmacy.

You know, he was...
he wasn't a pharmacist then,

he was just a clerk,
and we were barely scraping by.

And then, one day, Mary showed up.

She was so kind.

And when she smiled...

...it was like the sun coming out.

Was there more to your
relationship with Mary, Sylvia?

We were in love.

That's why you didn't want to
talk to me and Hank yesterday.

Your son was there.

I never told anybody.

It would've destroyed both our families.

Sylvia, were you at Mary's
house the night that she died?

We were supposed to be at mine.

Every Tuesday, Owen had the late shift

at the pharmacy and my
husband had a poker game

and we could be alone together,
but that...

...that particular night,

my husband's game was cancelled.

Well, Mary asked me
to come to her house.

- [exhales]
- What happened next?

Mary was shouting at
somebody downstairs.

And then I heard Mary scream.

She was lying at the
bottom of the stairs.

She was gone.

Did you see anyone?

No, I was terrified that
whoever did it might come back,

so I ran, I ran upstairs
to wake up Andy.

Mary's husband had just put
him on a new dose of lithium.

I had to shout his name
just to rouse him, and...

It was dark.

He couldn't tell it was me.

I told Andy to call 911.

And as soon as Andy stirred, I ran.

So, after Mary screamed,
you saw Andy asleep in his bed?

I would've come forward
if he'd been charged,

it's just, I c...

I couldn't destroy my family.

I just couldn't.

CASSIDY: I think she's
telling the truth.

HANK: Great.

So, we're back to square one.

No suspects, no leads.

I'm not so sure.

Think about who was in the Elliot
house that night and who wasn't.

Punch was off at college, Mary's husband

was in the Bay Area.

HANK: He spent every Tuesday there.

His company had a standing meeting.

So, there was only Andy,
but Andy was comatose.

And Mary was supposed to be at
Sylvia's house, like every other Tuesday.

Which means, to anyone paying attention,

the Elliot house should
have been easy pickings.

You think the house is the target.

The deputies ruled out burglary
because nothing was stolen.

But maybe nothing was stolen because

Mary interrupted the burglar in the act.

What do you want, old man?

WES: Hey, I've only tried calling
you about a hundred times.

And I didn't pick up,
so you got your answer, huh?

How did you know where to find me?

I slipped a hundy to the
kid over at the MMA gym.

Hey, now, before you get
all worked up about it,

I got a gift for you, too.

What kind of gift?

The best kind, cash.

Only thing is, you got
to sell me my land back.

You probably heard, I got out of the joint,
so I got to start earning.

Not interested.

I, uh, got a little sweetener.

Just between me and you, and, um...

How about 15%?

You think I want to get into
bed with the sheriff's lapdog?

You think I'm loyal to my daughter?

- My daughter put me in jail.
- No deal.

I'm not leaving here
without my land back.

You can walk away on
your own two legs...

Huh.

...or you can leave in a box.

What, you're gonna k*ll
the sheriff's father?

And then what?

Put the g*n away.

No deal, Wes Fox.

Don't make me say it again.

I don't need a g*n to hurt you.

[chuckles]

[door closes]

[lock buzzes]

You don't write, you don't call...

TRAVIS: Miranda.

I need your help.

- So, now you know how it feels.
- How what feels?

To be in a tough spot
and the only person

who could help you is
nowhere to be found.

You put yourself in this spot.

Are you, are you seriously mad at me

- for not visiting before now?
- [scoffs]

This isn't about the jail.

It's about the company.

After Pop-Pop died,
I dealt with the EPA,

the union strikes, the whole industry
collapsing, and where were you?

- Where were you? Nowhere.
- Where were you

when our parents pushed me out?

Yeah, where were you when they
made it a choice between Mickey or them?

Please. You always thought this company
was beneath you, way before Mickey.

And it's not so easy to run, is it?

No, no, it isn't, because you broke it.

Because you have single-handedly driven

our family legacy into the gr...

Into the ground!

I have the DEA up my a*s,

I have employees who have
not been paid in weeks

and not a single bank in this town will
give me a loan, because of what you did.

I'm trying to save the company.

So, if you know of a
way for me to do that,

if you've got money
hidden away somewhere...

Okay, Travis.

I'll tell you how you can
keep our company afloat.

Go see Todd Harrow
at Edgewater State Bank.

He'll give you a loan.

Before you see Todd,

stop by our family's safety-deposit box
at Redwoods Bank.

You'll find a blue folder
inside with Harrow's name on it.

Show him the contents of that folder

and remind him that the Fraley
family has a long memory.

[hangs up receiver]

MICKEY: How'd it go with Petar?

Well, I get the idea he's not
too big of a Sonny Stoyanov fan.

- But?
- But, eh...

he's also not too
thrilled about the idea

of working with the
sheriff's old man, so...

Then you need to
overcome his suspicions.

- Make Petar want you.
- Like you did me?

At least I bought you dinner.

EVA: Give him a tip.

Tell him that the sheriff's office

is gonna raid his MMA gym next week.

Also, try to have any future
meetings with him in the bakery.

So you can listen in?

Isn't that against health
violations, having both

a rat and a bug inside of a bakery?

Dad, the less you know is
better for your safety.

It's not about my safety.

I cannot be half in and half
out of a foxhole, Mickey.

Now, if you're gonna trust me to be
your inside man, then you got to trust me.

I don't trust you.

I didn't choose you.

You think I'm here
because I have a choice?

I didn't choose either of you.

And I guess you didn't
choose me, either.

Just give him the damn tip, Dad.

[door closes]

PUNCH: What's wrong with you people?

You call me at work,
you get me to come down here

so you can tell me that my mom was
cheating on my dad with her best friend?

Did you hear anything
else that I said, Punch?

If Sylvia is right and we believe her,

it means that your brother
didn't k*ll your mom.

- What do you want from me?
- Punch. We have a new theory

we were hoping you could weigh in on.

Back in the day,
the deputies dismissed burglary

as a motive because there was
nothing missing from your parents' house.

We think they might have
dismissed it a little too early.

What's Shane doing up there?

BOONE: You know that guy?

PUNCH: I remember. My parents

hired him to fix our porch
when I was in high school.

Pretty soon, he became their go-to handyman
for any repair jobs around the house.

HANK: Shane Macker.

Two years after the m*rder, he commits
a series of burglaries

just a few miles from
the Elliots' house.

Punch, if Shane was your handyman,

then he would know all the in and outs
of your family's house, right?

And he'd also have deep knowledge
of everybody's schedules.

HANK: And... possibly the
whereabouts of any valuables.

He could be our guy.

Hi, there. I'm Cal Fire DC Leone,

and we're here to conduct an inspection
to make sure you're up to code.

Um, I should go get my boss.

Oh, but first, do you take cash?

'Cause I'd also like to
make sure these apple donuts

are up to code, too.

[knocking on door]

Did it work?

Can you hear them
planning to whack someone?

- HANK: Looks like he's home.
- BOONE: Watch your six,

he's had weapons charges.

- I will sh**t you!
- Macker?
