21x16 - Million-Dollar Bounties

Post by bunniefuu »

[cardiologist speaking]

I mean, we just went to go
wake up Sig like normal.

He wasn't responding,
and I cracked the door.

He was on the ground.

There was also some
puke on the ground,

and he must have passed out.

Yeah, he's mentioned --
very dizzy and tightness

in his chest, tightness
all around his chest.

No, we have not
taken that yet but...

we can do that for you.

-OK, sounds good.
-[Karl] You're gonna come down?

Yeah.

Hey, Sig, I'm gonna take
your blood pressure real quick.

[Sig groans]

I'm gonna need your arm.

-My shoulder hurts.
-Your shoulder?

[bleep] yeah.

-When you fell?
-I don't know.

[dramatic music playing]

[Sig groans]

[Sig groans]

What is it?

We're gonna get your bpm.

[Sig groans]

[Clark] 125.

Here, you want
to squeeze my hand?

Both hands.
Let me see that one, too.

Squeeze.

Good.
All right, well, hang tight.

We'll check on you in a second.

OK, you there?

[cardiologist speaking]

Blood pressure was 86 over 57.

His bpm was 125.

And both right and left hand,
he can squeeze,

but it's pretty weak.

No, it was about the same.

[tense music playing]

We're eight hours
out of Dutch Harbor,

but there's no hospital here,
but there is a medical clinic.

We were gonna contact
Coast Guard earlier,

and upon captain's orders,
that was denied.

OK.

OK.

All right, thank
you very much.

We'll be in touch.

[Karl] So what is it?

[Clark] He's not exactly sure
what it was, but he said,

"Get to the clinic
as soon as possible."

[Karl] All right.

[Clark] We're on our way
back into town now.

[Sig groans]

Get some rest.

[gulls cackling]

[phone vibrating]

Damn.

I just got a text
from Clark...

that they found Sig on the floor
in his room, vomit next to him,

unresponsive.

He's had some issues
with his heart.

So it's really hard
to hear that.

[Rick] Whoa.

Dude, that sucks.

Sig collapsed.

They don't know exactly
what's going on.

Maybe he had a stroke.

But if he had a stroke,
they'd know.

He'd be paralyzed
on part of his face

and have speech issues.

I just really hope
he's gonna be OK.

[narrator] 400 miles southeast.

[Monte] We're going to get
my brother at the airport.

In Dutch Harbor.

He got thrown across
the galley and got slammed

into the counter.

If he's back, he must be...

on the mend or mended.

So we're kind of hoping
for that.

[intriguing music playing]

[indistinct announcements
over loud speaker]

Welcome home.

Where's the ticker-tape
parade?

No such thing.

How is your back?

My doctor did a whole huge
panel of tests on my kidney

for blood work.
-Yeah.

-And they said I was clean.
-Right.

I've got the green light
to go fish.

OK.

[Keith]
Let's get out of here.

[Monte] So the offload's
done for bairdi.

The sooner we are heading north
to catch opies, the better.

We have well over

and we need to get in, get out,
and deliver, because we've got

two processors,
and they're both closing.

[electric tool grinding]

[Freddy] Hey, hey, hey!
Welcome aboard, boss man!

[Keith speaking]

[Freddy] Let's go!
Whoo!

Big boys, baby!
Big boys!

[OJ] Let's do it, [indistinct]!

How we doing up there, guys?

[deckhand speaking]

[Keith speaking]

[OJ] Roger that, cap.

[Keith] We haven't had
an opi season in two years.

It's a roll of the dice.

And the crab have been
way up north.

[Freddy]
Give me some luck --
[indistinct]!

[Keith] And we don't have
a lot of time.

[crew shouts indistinctly]

As soon as we get tied up,
Karl, you can, uh,

we're going to get Sig off.

[Karl] Roger.

Finally made it back.
Sig's still laying down.

We've been monitoring him,
checking him.

You know, he's had
two heart attacks.

We got a truck waiting.

We're gonna see
how he is here.

Hey, Sig, we're all tied up.

Come here and get
to the clinic, OK?

[inaudible]

-[Karl] Are you good?
-[Clark] Watch this one.

[Sig groans]

-Ready?
-Whoa.

[grunting]

-The truck's over here.
-Over here?

[Karl] We were all worried
about Sig -- he's had issues

with his heart before.

We're hoping it's
nothing too serious,

but we just need
to get him checked out.

[Lauritz] You don't
mess around with the heart.

-No.
-That's very serious.

We're here to crab.

You know, we got to keep
doing what we got to do.

But we all hope he's good.

If anything, hopefully they
find out what the problem is,

and they get him
the treatment he needs.

In Dutch Harbor.

[Lauritz]
Guess we just have to wait here.

Hopefully, it's not
something serious.

[Clark] Hey, Sig.

[Sig speaking]

What's the next step now?

So you're gonna be flying?

Don't worry at all.
We'll take care of it.

All right, guys.

Good news that
I just talked to Sig.

He's OK.

He's gonna get down south
and see a specialist.

-Let's get ready to throw him.
-[deckhand] Roger.

I don't really like that
we're going out without Sig,

but Clark knows what's up.

[Clark] We're gonna have to get

and wrap up the season.

I mean, we don't really have
a choice at this point.

Without Sig on board,
you know, I mean, to be honest,

I'm feeling a little nervous.

This'll be, you know,
my first time

doing this all by myself.

Really hoping that we have
the numbers we need in the gear

to get the quota
and get this done.

On the opilio grounds.

[Keith speaking]

-[deckhand] Yeah.
-Yeah.

The weather is pretty gnarly
out there, all right?

So stay away from the rail
until -- only when you

have to be there, OK?

OK.
Stay safe.

Aboard the Wizard.

It's good to be back.

You know, one trip to make...

we still have 100,000 pounds
opies to catch,

I mean, if this
takes us too long,

the gamble
might not pay off.

Well, we're just gonna get it
done, nice and safe.

If there's such a thing as safe
in this kind of weather.

Yeah, I'd get rid
of it Freddy, go ahead.

Right now, every minute counts.
I've got to find some crab.

The port processor's
closed down.

[dramatic music playing]

I'm going way up north.

I'm gonna set heading
east toward that ridge,

dropping down
toward the deep hole.

You're either hero or zero.

You're either on 'em
or you're off 'em.

With the king's ransom
of opilio crab below...

and only five days
before cannery doors shutter,

Captain Keith Colburn
gambles his season

on a 10 mile underwater ledge,
positioned perpendicular

to the current,
yielding sporadic,

nutrient-rich waters
and towering 20-foot breakers.

[Keith] The current is screaming
straight to the north

and starting to stack
these waves up.

That just makes 'em
sharp, nasty,

and you can't really
predict them.

OK.
Watch out, guys.

Hang on.
Hang on!

[deckhand speaking]

[indistinct yelling]

Oh, god!

Freddy?

[Keith speaking]

stay on your toes.

Setting gear in this weather...

I'm gonna be a happy guy
when I get that crew off deck.

We've got two processors,
and they're both closing.

We need to get our crab caught,
get to the dock, and deliver.

Fishing kills.
Just like my uncle Nick...

had a heart attack.

Just hard on his body,
just like we all are.

I guess we're just gonna
have to wait and see.

First pot.
You guys ready to do this?

[deckhand] Roger!

On the Titan Explorer.

[Jake] Damn.
It [bleep].

We got to watch out
for each other.

It's blowing 25, 30 today.

[Jake] Sig and I
have found some crab.

And then split up.

We're chasing all
these crabs to the east,

southeast, and hopefully
we stay on them.

When the canneries close,
I can't offload.

So my biggest concern right now
is catching this crab fast.

If I don't catch my quota...

I don't have a shot
buying the Titan.

Let's see what we got.

[Mac] Yeah.
We got a good one right here.

Oh, yeah.

One-zero-five.

Wahoo!

-140!
-OK, there's crab here.

Trick is to stay on them.
Sprint to the finish line.

[laughing]

Oh, [bleep]!

That's a big one.

Watch the rail!
Watch the rail!

Watch the rail!

[banging, thudding]

[shouting]

[bleep]!

[Mac] Oh, oh.

[Jake] Oh, [bleep].

-Is everybody OK?
-[Mac groaning] [bleep].

[deckhand] Whoo!

[Mac speaking]

[deckhand]
Oh [bleep].

[groaning]

[Jake speaking]

[Jake speaking]

[Mac speaking]

-That was
a big [bleep] one, dude.

I just got
my knee tweaked back.

That chute hit
my knee really hard.

[Jake] Mac's limping
pretty hard, but...

Whoa!

That's crab fishing.

[dramatic music playing]

I'm trying to get to that
next pot as best I can, fellas.

Mac's got to be hurting bad.

He's been doing this
for 40 years.

He knows when he can work
and when he can't work.

I still needs 20,000 pounds.

will give me, after hauling

That's 10,000 pounds.

Two days,
that's 20,000 pounds.

All right, here we go.

[Felipe] Hey, hey, hey...
[unintelligible].

I don't know...

Hopefully,
Mac can get his knee rest.

We'll never make it to the end
of the finish line without Mac.

It is just ripping
us sideways.

Fudge.

Just outside False Pass.

Change of plans.
We're gonna go port side.

The current's just ripping.

Oh [bleep].

Aboard the Aleutian Lady.

So get the spring
and then the bow line on.

[deckhand] There we go.

[Rick]
Glorious false pass.

Now we'll get everything
locked down,

and we'll get Noah
to the dentist.

They say they have
an ambulance coming for Noah.

[Rick] All right, man.

You gotta get that
thing taken care of.

Sorry to end things this way.
Definitely wasn't --

[Rick] You didn't do anything
wrong, right?

The frickin' hook hit you
right in the face.

I mean, you kicked a*s.
Good job.

-Thanks, man.
-All right, man.

-Appreciate it.
-All right, man.

Throw lines.
Let's get out of here.

-[Nico] Roger.
-Fire up the main.

[Nico] Roger.

[Rick]
Noah is an absolute beast.

That guy is, bar none, one
of the toughest guys I know.

Not being able to rely
on Noah, a guy I trust,

to take care of stuff is huge.

All right, guys,
we're a man down.

I need everybody to pull
their weight right now.

I really hope and pray this
town soak's gonna work out,

because we got
to get out of here.

In Bellevue, Washington.

[Dr. Gandhavadi]
Gonna put your finger in there.

Perfect.

-A little on the low side.
-[Sig] On the low?

-Yeah.
-What do you mean?

Well, what that's measuring is
really the amount of oxygen

that's in your blood.

And healthy people are
around 98, 99, all the time.

Yours is right
around 94% today.

-[Sig] That's low.
-Yeah.

Tell me a little bit more
about what happened

when you passed out.

Yeah, we'd been up for...

a good day anyway,
maybe a day and a half.

And were you using a bunch of
coffee to help you stay awake?

-I always do, yeah.
-Yeah.

How much do you think
you had that day?

[Sig laughs]
Um...

Well, 10 at the minimum,
say 15, 20.

-Wow.
-That's pretty normal.

[Dr. Gandhavadi]
Were you smoking?

[Sig]
I -- I stopped.

But as soon as I got
on the boat, then I lost it.

I started.

So, yeah, I mean,
it was quite a bit.

OK.
Are you still smoking now?

I'm stopping.

I got you.

What did I have?
Ahm...

-Arrhythmia?
-Yeah, arrhythmia.

[tense music playing]

You've got a body
that's been through a lot.

And it's increasing the risk
that you're gonna have

another heart attack.

I know it's really hard
to quit smoking.

I don't think smoking
was the main thing.

I don't think smoking helped.
I'll tell you that.

Yeah, but smoking doesn't make
your heart go faster.

[Dr. Gandhavadi]
It does.

You've got a lot of things that
are adding on top of each other,

making the heart work
harder than it has to

or wants to.

Even if you take the coffee
and the cigarettes out of it,

you're still on a boat
where you're...

working at a high octane level
for a long time

without a lot of sleep,

and you're in this
"Go, go, go" mode.

[Sig] So what are you saying?
Don't go anymore?

I can't go fishing?

None of it's really
doing you any good.

That's gonna be hard to do.

I'm not saying it's wrong.

I'm just saying
that's kind of how I see it.

Give it a lot of thought
but the bottom line is

you're not doing yourself
any favors being on the boat.

[tense music playing]

of Dutch Harbor.

Yeah, you want to get
everybody up?

All right, thanks.

It's definitely weird
being out here without Sig.

He's like your safety net.

And him being gone,
everybody has to step up.

You know, as long
as I'm up here,

I want to put crab in the tank.

I'm here to make sure
that that happens.

Alone at the northwestern helm
for the first time,

acting captain Clark Pederson
shoulders the weight of finding

the family's last 60,000 pounds
of bairdi in just 36 hours.

All right, guys, you ready?

[deckhand and Clark speaking]

[deckhand] Yeah.

Moment of truth.

Got it.
Whoo!

[Clark] I got three-day
soak on the gear.

You know, we need 135 average.

If we can hit that, you know,
we can wrap up the season.

Hopefully they come up big.

[deckhand] You got it.

[Karl] What do we got?
What do we got?

Oh, no!

Ah, that [bleep].

Re-stack.

[Karl] Oh, no!

[Clark] Pots coming up.

-[Karl] Here it is.
-[deckhand] [indistinct] crab.

[deckhand #2] Yeah.

This spot we've been at is
just not producing anymore.

[Karl speaking]

[Karl] Not too sexy.

I wouldn't put these back
in the water right now.

Well, it's been slowly getting
better, the deeper we get.

-But who knows?
-Better, deeper.

[Karl] Here it comes!

I mean, the number one thing
Sig hates is running for crab.

But...

[deckhand]
Still on it.

[Clark] ...this fresh ground,

where it starts getting,
kind of, just off the edge.

It's a little further west than
I think we want to go, but...

we're gonna stack
the rest of these on.

Roger.

[Clark speaking]

[deckhand] Yeah, baby!

Let's go, let's go!

[indistinct shouting]

Yeah!

There it is.

I know it's a gamble,
but, you know,

we're gonna have to do it.
We need new grounds.

-[buzzing]
-[deckhand] Going over!

-I got a good feeling.
-[deckhand] Let her go.

[Clark] Hopefully,
we can hit big.

[Jake speaking]

Yeah, now there's a squall
that's coming in on top

of the wind and waves,

but I still have to haul
this gear.

I still have

I could pull it out of
this area, but...Mac's hurt.

If I'm down Mac, I don't know
what I'm supposed to do.

It's a lot of work
for three guys.

Dude, how's the knee?

[Mac] I'm sore.

Looks like my knee
popped out and went down,

or something, you know?

[Jake] Are you gonna be OK?

I'll just leave
the decision up to you.

You've been doing
this 40 years.

I'm gonna go up top,
and then I'll start...

mowing the lawn.

[dramatic music playing]

Damn.

Damn, that's rough.

[indistinct shouting]

Oh, god.
Three-man deck is just stupid.

[indistinct shouting]

[Felipe speaking]

It's not great, but it'll
get me to my offload

if I can finish.

I'm getting old, you know.
It's hard to accept.

But I don't want to,
you know, disappoint

the guys either.

One, two, let's go!

I'm gonna go try it.
I never backed out at anything.

Mac's got to be hurtin' bad.

I don't know what it is,
but he's almost 60.

That's hard on me personally...

[Mac groans]

[Jake]
...and financially.

My whole season
could come down to this.

[bleep]

[Felipe speaking]

Hooray, Mac!

[Titan Explorer crew cheering]

[Jake] No way.

[Titan Explorer crew cheering]

I can't let you guys
down, brothers.

Mac, you're back!

Yeah!

[deckhand] Whoo-hoo!

Get to work.

That is awesome.

It still hurts,
but I can't let them...

I can't let Jake
and the boys down.

That's love of the game
right there.

[groaning]

[Mac groans]

He's back to work, light duty.

Visibility has dropped.
I can't see in the squall.

I need some eyes
to help me find bags.

[deckhand] I don't know.

-[bleep]
-[Mac] I see it.

Hey, I see it!

Right there!

[Jake] Where?

Right there, one o'clock!

[deckhand] Damn.

[deckhand]
[bleep] yeah, Mac!

Got all the guys on deck.

Mac got that one.

-Can't find it again.
-[Mac] Straight ahead!

One o'clock again!

How did you see that?

[inspirational music playing]

-How did he see that?
-Whoop!

[deckhand]
Yeah, here we go, here we go!

Yeah!

[Jake]
Who knows?

I might be able to finish
this string out and get back

to the barn and offload this.

Hopefully, we make it in time.

-First pot coming up.
-[Karl] Roger.

On the Northwestern.

[Clark] We're coming up
on our west set.

Ready?

What we were seeing before
was not, it just wasn't working.

We needed those extra numbers,
that bigger average.

You know, we need
that 135 average.

With 48 hours left till
cannery closure and no time

for another move,

the Hansen family's fate rests
in the hands of a Pederson.

[Clark] If these produce...

[indistinct shouting]

...you know, that's it.
That's a wrap for the season.

[deckhand] Hoping
for something good, man.

What do we got?

I don't think I've ever wanted
to see crab in a pot more

than right now because there's
so much relying on this.

[Hunter speaking]

[Freddy] Mohawk Power.

[OJ] [unintelligible],
buddy, you got this.

[Keith] You know, every time we
cut our hair or have a mohawk,

it seems like we end up
with better fishing.

Unfortunately,
I'm mohawk-impaired.

But I can do some kind
of haircut for good luck.

We need some good luck
right now on this gear.

[deckhand] This looks
way better than mine.

[Keith] Oh, man,
that is beautiful work.

The reverse hawk?

[Keith] Yeah! Take it off!
All of it! Take it off!

[Keith] Oh, [bleep], skunk line
right down [indistinct].

There you go.
Don't be shy.

Oh, it's looking good, isn't it?

-Feels good, right?
-Oh, it feels really good.

-[Wizard crew laughing]
-[Keith] All right,

which one of you guys
is doing my backside?

As Keith gets
the old chest forest trimmed,

the fleet's fight
to the finish grows...

hairier.

On the Northwestern.

If these produce,
you know, that's it.

That's a wrap for the season.

[Northwestern crew cheering]

Whoo!

They look nice and red, big.
That looks good.

[deckhand speaking]

That's definitely
what we're looking for.

That'll get us out of here.

We're getting way better
numbers than I was expecting.

If they keep going like this,
we can get them all on

and get back to town
here as soon as possible.

Let's spin it.

Big weight will be lifted off
my shoulders after getting

all the pots back on board.
-[deckhand] Oh, yeah.

Especially
without Sig being here.

That's something new
for all of us.

All right, guys,
coming up, first pot.

[indistinct chatter]

Aboard the Wizard.

[Keith] The eggs are
in one basket right now.

Everything's gambling
on a small, little,

pretty much
five by five mile square.

This winter was pretty rough.

We started with two completely
worthless deckhands

on this boat at the same time.

Injuries, bad numbers,
horrible weather.

We really need this train to be
strong from start to finish.

We need some 300
just to get our crab.

I mean, if we don't,
that all comes out of my pocket.

All right, come on, baby.
Let's get this first one here.

Oh, [bleep] it's got
some crab in it, come on.

[indistinct chatter]

[deckhand] Whoo!
Yeah!

[cheering]

Nice big crab.

[cheering continues]

[deckhand] 300.

Oh! 300!

[Freddy] Yeah, baby.

Wah-h*-h*-h*!

Whoo!

We're getting close.
We're getting close.

Yeah!

Whoo!

[Keith]
Man, I'm talking about
a miserable season.

But we succeeded.

The best part about opies
is putting that last pot

on the stack and going home.

After four weeks of
hard labor...

[Rick] Last pot's up.

[deckhand] Come on, baby.

...nine captains
and 33 deckhands

bring their first opilio season
in three years to a close.

That's a good pot to end on.
Whoo-hoo!

On the Aleutian Lady.

[Rick]
That was the last pod.

You guys kicked a*s.
Thank you for pushing through.

[sighing]
Oh, man.

I've been waiting to say
that for way too long.

Captain Rick Shelfor tanks
all 220,000 pounds

of his opilio quota.

Noah's tooth, he got injured.

We had to come
all the way back out.

But we got it.

And every everybody on board
the boat's gonna make a nice

chunk of money.
-Whoo-hoo-hoo, baby!

Earning each hand and broken
smile a shiny $55,000.

Well, I got good news
for you fellas.

[Titan Explorer crew cheering]

On the Titan Explorer.

-That's the last one.
-[Mac] Can I try it?

Whoo-hoo!

Is that Mac right there?

Captain Jake Anderson
and a trusty Mac White...

He seriously just
threw the hook.

...tank a mammoth

$2.9 million bairdi hoard.

All right, that's it, guys.

It was a hellacious year.

But trading all my opies
in for bairdi worked out.

[deckhand speaking]

That brings me closer
to buyin' this boat.

Making Jake, for the second
time in his career,

an owner-operator.

Alls I gotta do is do some
paperwork and cut the check.

And each deckhand
$145,000 richer.

[Clark] Hey!
How's it goin'?

-Come and give me a hug!
-[cheering]

He made it!

Oh!

For the Hansen family...

-Welcome home.
-I know.

[kiss smacks]

For the first time,
a Pederson completes

their million-dollar quota,
Sigless.

You had everything
laid out perfect.

You gave me a silver platter.
All the crab was in the gear.

-Yeah.
-And the boat's safe.

Earning each deckhand $52,000.

-How are you feeling?
-I'm fine.

I mean, I've been
checked out and everything,

but they kind of told me
to start slowing down.

I just don't see
that happening.

And quite frankly,
I don't want to.

I do appreciate you
stepping in.

That's a big deal.

I got something for you,
Follow me.

And for Clark...

[Clark] Oh, my god.

No way.

...a little something extra.

-You kidding me?
-It's a Mach, man.

[Clark] Holly [bleep]!

-A Mach 1.
-Here.

Take it first.
No, take it.

Of course.

[engine growling]

He stepped up, and he just had
to take over the boat,

you know, in a moment's notice,
and he really deserves this one.

[Clark] Bye!

Bye.

Bye, bye, daddy.

Just come -- come back alive.
