is very, very fitting.

Okay? And it actually reminds me
of the kingdom of Auradon,

-where our story began.

DOVE: Descendants is the story
of the offspring

of the classic Disney villains
and all of the characters.

And I play Mal,
the daughter of Maleficent.

And in Descendants 2,

I run into my archnemesis, Uma,

-the daughter of Ursula.
-What's up? That's me.

-TIM: So, designers,

for this challenge,
you are creating

an evening-wear look
that is inspired by the movie.

And like classic
Disney characters,

some of you are going to be
designing a good look,

and others an evil look.

Michael,
would you please join me?

You are the winner
of the last challenge,

-and I have a very special
assignment for you. -Oh, God.

You're going to give good
and evil concepts...

-...to each of the designers.

But you choose first. Do you
want good, or do you want evil?

Mmm... I want evil.

MICHAEL:
I choose evil just because,

as far as my own aesthetic,
it definitely translates

really well into that.

For Amy, uh...

think you're good.

For Brandon, you're also good.

-All right.
-[Michael chuckles]

Kentaro, let's make you good.

TIM: You're gonna run out
of "good" cards.

Think I want to give you...

-evil.
-TIM: Kenya gets evil.

Aaron gets good.

SAMANTHA:
I could've done well

with good, but I am all about
that spooky life.

Ayana... good.

Then I want to mix it up
and give Claire some good.

different assignments.

Margarita gets evil.

And Batani gets evil.

That's right-- the movie may be

based on
the classic fairy tales,

but the fashion
is actually contemporary,

-as are our characters.

in the rose garden.

The roses are just luscious.

And I'm inspired by

the vibrancy of color.

she's very straight,
very slender.

I want to give her
a nice, ruffled top;

some streamlined,
nice tuxedo pants,

and show off those legs.

It's definitely gonna be
important here

to, like, get the right colors.

BRANDON:
Thinking I'm gonna do

this edgy silk streetwear look.

Coming off the last challenge,
you know, I kind of bombed

working with silk,
but I want to show them that,

with the proper time given,

that I can execute this well.

TIM:
Designers, time is up.

I find this crinkly silk

that looks
a little bit evil to me.

for this nice silk fabric.

And it has a beautiful drape.

I've never felt a fabric
that has, you know,

quite the touch to it, and I
think it'll be the right fabric

to complement, uh, Christina.

And I wanted to do more,

I bought ten yards, and I
thought that would be enough.

because it is my first time

making a full-figured outfit.

but at the same time, you have

to scrutinize your work,

to overthink it,
to redesign it. Two days!

It can be a designer's
worst nightmare.

KENYA: So, this week's challenge
is to create

an evening look
that's based on good and evil.

I'm evil.

We have two days. With the
judges giving us more time,

their expectations are gonna be
even higher.

AARON: Like, how do you guys
just go straight to final?

AMY: Like, by the time you cut
into real fabric,

you feel confident, you know?

AARON: And every time I've cut
into real fabric,

I [bleep] up, so I like
to leave myself

a little bit of room for error.

Too, too.

-DESIGNERS: Hi, Tim.
-TIM: Hi.

So, Brandon, how are you doing?

The idea is kind of like

this halter-top dress.

It has, like, a little peekaboo
in the back.

Oh. You're very consistently

full of... the unexpected,

-which is great.
-Yeah.

Claire, you have a lot done.

That's good.

Unless you don't like it.

-Well, talk to me about it.
-I really was inspired

by the idea of fairy tales.

-I hope that I was able
-Mm-hmm.

to translate it in a way
that doesn't look

like fairy princess.

What are your thoughts
about the top?

This is very shiny.

-Very.
-By itself.

I'm not sure
what to do right now.

-Beat back the costume.
-Yeah.

Well, Michael,
you've achieved a lot.

It's not the idea that I had
come up with originally.

I basically let the lace
take over.

-I don't think you have
much of a choice. -Yeah.

My concern with the lace is--

is it on the border of being

-too matronlike? Yeah.
-Too lady? Yeah.

You see it?

My inspiration came from:
I was doing my sketching

at the castle
under all the Gothic arches.

So this is kind of like
an opera cape...

opera cloak, Erté-style coat.

Then I'm not sure now
if the birds

are too white
against all of the...

-Keep talking. Keep talking.
-[laughing]: ...everything.

So, even though it kind of

started with the birds,
now the birds seem

-sort of superfluous to the
whole thing. -I'm with you.

And then maybe the birds
just have to fly away.

TIM:
I absolutely agree.

My inspiration came
from the rose garden,

and I wanted to bring
the garden,

if you will, with me.
[chuckles]

How are you feeling
about the transition

from this white
to this dark olive?

Uh, that's kind of
what I was going for.

-It's so choppy.
-Okay.

I mean, this is pretty much
all that I've got left.

TIM: But, you know,
at least it unites it.

I think it's your savior.

So it's kind of like
a dark queen type of feel.

I'm wondering,
if you were to take

the part of the appliqué
that goes under the bustline...

-Mm-hmm.
-...cut it out

-and put it over.
-On top. That's a good idea.

For me, evil always
resonates in leather.

-TIM: It's exquisitely made.
-Well, thank you.

I feel like this is me,
for once.

Aaron, very curious
to know what you're doing.

when you untie this,

it kind of falls into a skirt.

TIM:
I feel that what...

you've devised here
with this transitioning

is more of a gimmick.

do really well
in this challenge,

and I, like,
have cool ideas,

but I think they kind of
got shot down,

a wickedly evil tuxedo look.

One of my thoughts was to, like,

I think that's a good idea.

off shoulder like this,

Why is that a different color?

I just, like,
wanted to mix with,

are going on.

I mean, I think of you
as a minimalist.

Suddenly you've become
a maximalist.

I've never been with you

in a critique setting
and felt so confused.

HEIDI:

a big craft project.

I know that this is you,
but you need to evolve this.

I just hate a jacked-up crotch.

I feel as though you have

too many ideas happening.

So, I found this burnout velvet.

Once I saw it in the workroom,
I got really scared

because, from far away,
it doesn't read as interesting.

But look at these details.

-It's beautiful.

I just have to make sure
that it fits Jazzmine.

-Oh, you have Jazzmine? Right.
-Mm-hmm.

MARGARITA:
And because her shape,

it's a little straighter,
I wanted to do

-an empire waist.
-Which is very smart.

I thought that would

that she feels so covered up

This is a really beautiful
direction.

Hearing Tim kind of validate

my design aesthetic is, like,
so much of a relief.

-I am actually really obsessed

and they were kind of
an escape for me.

So, I went with green,

which is my favorite color
because it reminds me of envy.

I'm a little bit hurt.

that my look
is a little crafty.

I think I'm taking it

because the dress itself is

the epitome of what I design.

but you've got to de-craft it.

-and your inspiration.
-I kind of was thinking

about my girl when I was
designing this, and I was,

like, thinking about her
as a superwoman.

I really wanted to play
with, like, a soft,

flowy fabric, and then kind of

maybe a more structured knit
on top.

Then just play out with cutouts.

I know she kind of likes
to show skin

in, you know, selected areas,
and so...

yeah, that's kind of
my idea behind it.

HEIDI: This is kind of like
the modern...

straitjacket.

And I have to tell you

First thing I... I thought of
was Disney princess.

It feels like Cinderella
on her day off.

Needed to feel more expensive.

It's just not enough.

It needs a bibbidi-bobbidi-boo.
Really bad.

We have seen a version of this
a trillion times.

It is just very expected,
still boring.

This is a cliché.

It's just not good enough.

Understood.

I don't feel I know you
as a designer yet.

-That's starting to get
very concerning. -Yes.

I need to feel a stronger voice.

-Mm-hmm.
-HEIDI: Kenya.

So, I'm evil.

I just thought about
a dark tuxedo look,

and when I saw this fabric,

I'm like, it reminds me of,
like, seaweed,

and this is what I came up with.

Mm-mm-mm-mm-mmm!

You could've not
bedazzled it more.

You have a very unusual fabric.

You have a pinstripe
on the side.

You have ruffles down the chest.

You have a peplum
from the waist down.

You have ruffles
down the sleeve.

You have a huge, gigantic

peekaboo hole on the back.

But it all works.

Kenya is back.

I'm just in love with this look.

That's all I have to say.

It's tailored perfectly.

It fits her like a glove.

NINA:
I love the fact

that you did not do a gown.

It is smart. It is chic.

And most importantly,

there's a balance.

It looks edible.
Like, it looks like it maybe

tastes good and smells good.
It's like a work of art.

like melted records.

It's something
that you want to look at.

tell us about your look

and if you're good or evil.

I was given evil.
I was inspired by poison fruit

and poison flowers, um...

So, what happened
to the bottom of this?

You have all this intricacy
on top, and then literally,

like, a sheer line of curtains
going down below that.

I think I really just wanted
movement down there,

and I didn't want it
to distract from this up here.

ZAC:
I don't like your fabric choice.

-It's just ugly.
-Oh. Okay.

The pattern, like, at the top,

it should have gone down
further,

and that could have
been at, like,

the very bottom, the kick-out.

If that was the case,
then I'd be,

like, screaming
and rolling around on the floor.

-[laughs] -But something about
it is bumping me,

but I do love the color.

Samantha, I wasn't a fan,
either, I have to be honest.

It's kind of like
an '80s prom dress.

-Sure.
-There's nothing new,

fresh or interesting about this.

Michael,
tell us about your look.

Are you good, or are you evil?

I chose evil for myself.

I'm inspired by darker elements.

So, what I did was just drape
based on the lines of the dress,

wrapped it around the form
so there is actually no cutting

other than the darts.

Queen.

She's a Gothess.

She was a queen
walking down the runway.

I was kind of channeling Beyoncé
a little bit.

For me, it works.

I think she looks fantastic.

"Fabric slays," in all caps.

Like, that fabric is amazing.

The headpiece is insane.
It's beautiful.

-DOVE: I love a cape.

I'm a huge sucker for a cape,
personally.

I love the feathers.

with these feathers.

And I love the crown.

That adds the touch of wicked

that you definitely
were going for,

I figured good kind of resonated
with, like, a pink, and...

I'd been doing a lot of things

that were not as colorful,
so I figured

I wanted to try
a different color.

This fabric is beyond beautiful.

The colors also all look like

they've been left out in the sun

which is the opposite of evil.

It has a sort of
a lackluster effect.

to feel this, though.
