the first anything, right?
- Did you feel pressure?

I felt pressure and people
wanting me to come in
and just snap at everybody.
You know, we're labeled angry
women a lot,
Black women, because
we are outspoken, we're strong.
And sometimes I hate that word,
"strong,"
because it makes me feel like
people negate my pain.
Just because I'm strong
doesn't mean I don't have pain
and I don't feel.
- You recently told
Wendy Williams,
"I think the women were
a little hesitant this season
"because I think
they were afraid
"of Black social media coming
for them
like they came after me
so everyone kind of tip-toed."
What'd you mean by that?
- I meant exactly that.
You know, race is such
a fine line, you know?
- Yeah.
- To deal with.
So if they said anything
that was...
they would've said
to a another white woman
but because it's me,
it becomes a racial thing.
So I get it.
I would've...
if I was in their shoes,
I would've been nervous, too.

- I've been having
conversations with the boys
as young as three years old.
I mean, it was important
for me to give them
a positive outlook
of the fact that their mom is
Black and their dad is white.
I didn't want anybody to put
a negative connotation on it
before they knew
what was coming at them.
So we've always had
racial conversations
about being careful with
the police, being respectful,
and just the injustice
that we encounter
just because
of the color of our skin.
And, uh,
a couple of months ago,
I was pulled over by the cops
and Jax was in the back
and I was so happy
that Jax actually got to see
my interaction with the police.
Obviously, I was respectful.
I had my hands on the wheel,
ten and two.
I said, "I'm reaching
for my wallet."
And it's interesting,
because even, you know,
when I say this
to my other friends,
you know,
who happen to be white,
and they're like,
"Wow,
would someone like you have
to do that?"
And I was like,
"Absolutely someone like me."
It doesn't matter whether...
what my résumé said
or what I've done.
I could get...
[chuckles and stutters]
It's been so long,
so long that it took COVID,
it took quarantine
for everybody to be still
and to watch George Floyd
to be able to get things
to finally change.
And I feel hopeful,
but it's still kind of like
it's been a long time coming.
- What about the rest of you?
Anyone talking to your kids
about this stuff?
- It's an ongoing conversation
at our house at dinner.
I think a lot
of what's happening
is people are scared
to say something
or they don't know what to ask,
so it's really important
to talk about it,
educate them, ask questions,
ask my friends,
so that my kids
do feel comfortable.
It feels nice to see
some change happening finally.
- I loved what you said, Kyle,
about how, you know, being able
to have a conversation.
I want my friends
to call me and say,
"Is it okay if I say this?"
"Would you prefer
African American
or do you want Black?"
I prefer Black, personally.
But I feel like it's okay
to have those uncomfortable
conversations because
so we can grow and move
from it.
And I think the fact that
white people are joining in
is everything.

is a policeman,
so this must be
incredibly complicated.
- Well, yeah.
You know, I get to see the best
of law enforcement
through the work of my son,
but there are institutional
and individual tragedies
that are continuing to happen
in the Black community
and those need to change.
