All her designs
have been my favorite.

I love the dresses she does,
and I'm just really excited

this is my challenge.

the outer raincoat

in front of all these
famous people.

- I instantly think of doing,

like, a dark colored
leather overall.

Something more high-fashion.

- I am nervous just because

I'm not entirely sure
that Swapnil

really understands
what I'm comfortable with.

It's not difficult at all
to shop for fabrics

without my client
because I know

what it's eventually
going to look like.

a pencil skirt with a top.

with an interesting beetle

so that it really glues on
to her body,

but she's comfortable
at the same time.

- Designers,

I know that Monique
loves color,

so I'm getting
quite a bit of fabric.

I've got a chiffon black.

I've got a double-sided
satin blue.

It's woven with black.
There's aqua blue, a baby blue.

Is there a way to grab
that blue?

- I've kind of always toyed
with the idea of just a shave.

- When you have a cool haircut,

you want some really cool color
to complement it.

Adding some color,
some fresh pops of blonde.

Your hair is just flat
and doing nothing.

I would really recommend
taking at least four inches off.

If we build some beautiful
layering into this,

you'll have a really nice shape.

You have such beautiful texture.

I think your transformation

would be most impactful
in color.

of sort of doing, like,

a more professional version
of a coverall.

my vag*na's this big, yes?

- Can you lower the waistband?

- I don't want diaper-butt.

So I'm definitely going to
fit it really good.

She has a nice body,
and there's no point

to have a giant diaper over it.

and I wanted to do a blue coat,
like an overcoat,

I am so profoundly underwhelmed
by this.

so it's definitely
a little added pressure.

in the past seasons,

there hasn't been a designer
who came out and said,

"I want to design
for the everyday woman,"

so that's what I think
is interesting about Ashley.

- Nicole told me that
she wanted something that was

form-fitting on top
and that flew out,

and she wanted to
cover her arms a little bit,

so I kind of pushed her
into covering the arms

and, you know, bare shoulders.

- What are your thoughts?

- Um, I'm interested to see
what it looks like on.

I know I really wanted
sleeves.

- Shall you try it on?

- Yeah.

How do you feel
about this neckline?

- Mm, I'm not in love with
the neckline at all.

I really wanted sleeves
to cover my arms.

a lot of places, so I wanted to
do a lower-crotch pant that is

pretty much high on the waist.

and really, like,

not so much think about the
initial request of the client?

- You must think about--here's
what I don't understand.

Why can't you do both?

runway and Desiree?

how I feel about it.

I'm not loving it,
that's for sure.

It's so fundamental.

What have you been doing for

of you were to design a look

for one of the "Project Runway"
crewmembers.

This was
the Sally Beauty challenge.

You know, we work
with these crewmembers

for many, many seasons.

And we're very excited to see
them walk the runway today.

All right, let's say hello
to our judges.

First we have creative director
of Brooks Brothers Women

and fashion designer Zac Posen.

- Hello, designers.
- Hi.

- Creative director of "Marie
Claire" magazine, Nina Garcia.

- Hi everyone.
- Hi.

- And our guest judges
for today,

the stars of Lifetime's
returning hit show "UnREAL,"

the fashionable Shiri Appleby,

and Constance Zimmer.

- Welcome.

- Also, we have Tim Gunn
here for the runway show,

and as you know,
he's your mentor

and will not be
judging your looks.

That said, he will have
the Tim Gunn save.

We also have
an anonymous runway show,

which means we the judges
do not know which designer

created which look.

All right, let's start the show.

- I feel like I definitely
listened to Ashleigh

and I also kept me in there by
doing a funky leather overall.

I feel like I hit all the marks
on this challenge,

and I'm hoping the judges
see that as well.

- This was not the look
that I would have created

in my signature collection.

I'm working for a client
and a customer

and I have to incorporate
what they want and feel

versus having the free rein
to do whatever I want.

♪ ♪

- I am not proud of the look.

I think this look could have
represented me as a designer

had I stuck onto
the original fabric

and the original
design details.

She didn't want sleeveless, she
didn't want the legs showing.

How do I work with someone
like that?

♪ ♪

- She looks really sexy,
really strong, confident,

and she looks like she's
having a bit of fun with it.

- Sexy, sexy.
- Oh, she's not playing.

- At the same time,
there's a bit of fit issues.

I can see the back is puckering
a bit when she walks back.

- The thing that I'm most
concerned about this look

is making her look older

and not complementing
her body shape.

She wanted something
that was flowy on the bottom

but I just really felt like
it lost her height.

I almost feel like she's
not comfortable

in what she's wearing.

♪ ♪

- Every time there's a runway,
it's like a first date

where you have the butterflies
in your stomach,

but I'm super excited to see
Katie's like, rocking it.

She does this whole,
like, hair flip.

I just wish I would have
made the jacket shorter.

- It looks well-finished.

she shaved her hair.

That's why she flipped it
to that side.

She looks hot.

- So, during me and Ashleigh's
first consultation,

she expressed to me how
she loves her overalls,

so I really wanted to, like,

kind of jazz up
her whole overall thing.

And she wanted something
she could also go out

and get drinks in as well.

- Ashleigh, what do you think
about your look?

- I really do love it.

I wanted something
that would be

a little bit more
fashion-forward, sophisticated,

since I'm with you
lovely people all day,

and this is what
we came up with.

She came up with.

- We. Both of us.

- I am used to seeing very
over-the-top, embellish,

you go crazy on the details.

You have plenty of ideas
and that's wonderful.

But when you can really edit
them down, you get this.

too, it really suits you well.

Well, when I met Monique, she
let me know that she loved blue,

so I wanted to do
pops of color for her.

We wanted to have fun
and it's going to be sexy.

about your new look?

- I like it so far.

Something different on me,
definitely, but I enjoy it.

- I do love your hair and
makeup.

The clothes, on the other hand,
I'm not so sure about.

It looks a little cheap.

Also, with the sweetheart
neckline, it's a little bit,

you know, red light district.

look that you created for Katie.

- Katie has like, a rock
and roll, like, soul, you know.

I started with the jacket
and then I gave her, like,

a sexy leather skirt
so she can go out, you know?

She's a rock star.

- Katie, what do you think
about your new look?

- I really like it, and I think
it fits with my hair choices

and all of that, so...

- I love the hair.

I think that was so bold.
Amazing.

Looking at Katie
before and after,

it is a huge transformation,

so all in all, I think
this was stellar.

- The vest was actually
the best thing, I thought,

that walked down the runway.

It felt like the most high-end
and the most fashion-forward.

I'm not crazy about the skirt.

I feel like it's pulling
and the fabric choice

is not as sophisticated
as it could probably be.

- Okay.

- Swapnil, tell us about the
look that you created for Jen.

- Well, um,
this is what I made

in the last two hours yesterday
night, the whole wrap cape top,

and uh, the skirt
obviously is neoprene,

which has been draped.

But I think what
went wrong was

I think I didn't
show the leg.

Because she wanted more playful
and floaty, and I was going for,

"Let's do a makeover.
Let's make her hot."

- You said,
"Let's make her hot"?

- Yeah.
- And then you created that.

- Yeah.

- Jen, are you happy
with your makeover?

- I'm happy with my hair,

but I do not feel confident
in this outfit.

We had a couple fittings,

and we weren't able to

with every design,

- It looks like you gave up,
quite honestly.

- I mean, it just doesn't
get any better than this.

- Ashley, tell us about the look
that you made for Nicole.

- Well, first of all,
I loved working with Nicole.

And she expressed to me that she
wanted me to create something

that she could wear to a wedding
but also wear to special events,

so that's why I wanted to create
something that was form-fitting,

that had a sweetheart neckline,

complementing the shape
of her face,

and then also a pencil skirt
with a peplum.

- Nicole, how do you feel
about your look?

- I asked for sleeves,
I asked for pockets,

so I was really excited
to get that.

I wasn't so excited about
the colors at first,

but I've grown to like them.

- Ashley, to me this was not
the best proportion

for your model today.

- Okay.

- The fit on the top is not
as hot a body as she has,

and I find that very unfortunate
coming from you,

where this is your specialty.

- Yes.
- I'm very disappointed.

This was your moment
to knock our socks off.

- You know, with the peplum,

so many designers think
that is hiding something,

but instead it's drawing focus
at your insecurities,

and to me it just felt
uncomfortable.

- I agree.

- Personally,
I don't like to wear things

that cut me too many times

because it makes me feel
even shorter.

One of the biggest problems
in this challenge for me

was the fact that I was not able
to understand my client.

I know I didn't make her happy.

There's no doubt about that.

"Project Runway" is intense,
it's exciting,

but most of all,

for me it's been
a life learning experience.

it looked cheap as well.
