How did you do this?

I took a picture of it,
tweaked the color...

So, it's literal.

I wanted something haunting and
alluring at the same time.

You know, this is one piece
of fabric, the panel of, uh, the

X-ray, and what I did was...

Ah.

And just added a zipper.

That, I destroyed this.

What do you mean, you
destroyed it?

I wanted to see what bleach

Would do to leather, and it
corrodes it, so--

I love this effect.

Really?

I'm responding to how
one-of-a-kind it is, how unique

It is.

It just takes it to a whole
other dimension that goes beyond

Clothes-making.

Think about using that effect in
the bustier.

You should feel great about
where you are.

the judges.

First, we have cfda lifetime
achievement award winner

Michael kors.

Hey, guys.

Hi.

And fashion director for
marie claire magazine,

Nina garcia.

Hi, everyone.

We will score your designs as
come down the runway.

Three of you will move forward
to compete at mercedes-benz

Fashion week at lincoln center,
and one of you will be out.

Let's start the show.

The white dress is a great
representation of my collection.

It's very clean, very
architectural, and it's

Sophisticated at the same time.

Cat looks beautiful.

It works for her.

It fits very well.

It's very interesting and
forward, and it's very much me.

I'm so happy.

I love the jacket, and I love
the skirt and the blouse.

It shows the variety, and it
shows that I have great pieces

In my collection.

I feel very proud, what I've
done, and I hope the judges will

Love it.

I'm showing three looks that
I really like.

I'm using the vest that I
sprinkled bleach on.

It looks fresh, it looks new.

The leather shorts with the
ostrich waistband looks cool.

It created so many different
dimensions and textures, with

The heart chain in the back.

I really love this look.

And then I have alex wearing the
bustier that has the same

Leather detail as the vest.

For fit reasons, I don't feel
like I showed everything that I

Wanted to show, but it all has
the same feeling.

It's very cohesive.

I just hope it's enough.

The draped blazer with the
bustier and the blue prints is

My favorite piece.

There's a lot of intention in
everything, and everything's

Really artisanal and hand-done.

That's the special touch from me
to whoever's gonna wear this.

The structured draped skirt with
the cropped top, it's very

Sophisticated, but at the same
time, it looks a little bit

Disheveled.

I think her attitude and the way
the skirt fit and the way, like,

The back is just, like, gently
flapping as she's walking is

Amazing, and I love it.

The pink dress, it tells
a story, but also it's unique

And it's unexpected from me.

It took a lot of specific
materials, like the dyes and

The discharge.

The result is absolutely
amazing.

I am in love with that piece.

These three looks are just
enough of a taste that will

Leave the judges wanting more.

I have decided to send lacey
down in the perforated white

Leather shorts with the black
wrapped belt and the silk

Blouse with the attached scarf.

It just shows the diversity of
the collection.

For kind of this easy, casual
look, I want to incorporate

A pant.

I'm choosing to pair that with
the perfecto white leather

Jacket with a tank.

The last is a black dress,
called the obsidian dress, which

I kind of named my collection.

The final three looks I've
chosen show some range.

However, I'm not sure if it
shows the wow factor to my

Collection.

The plan is that, they love
these three looks and they

Want to see more, I have a lot
more to show.

And hopefully they love all of
that too.

There are some things that we
really liked today,

But also some things that
confused us.

Let's talk about fabio.

Let's bring out your models.

Tell us about your looks and how
they represent your collection.

I decided to call my
collection cosmic tribalism.

And my collection is not the
most conventional, and it's not

Intended to be.

Because I think it is a show
and it is fashion week.

Yeah, I think that's it.

I love that you have a
completely different point of

View.

Thank you.

You know, I feel like I
haven't seen this.

The way you pile so many things
on top, on you all the time, it

Just works.

You do have a feeling for that.

And I almost feel like your
clothes need that because it's

A kind of schlumpy, cool vibe,
but it's still very modern and

So out there, which I kind of
love.

I'm intrigued, like, I think
it's different.

I think that the necklaces and
the bags are fantastic.

Mm-hmm.

You know, those are pieces
that I haven't seen before.

And I love those colors.

This was very cool in that
you took colors that are

Normally looked at as very kind
of sweet and saccharine and

Sugary, and certainly that's not
this woman.

Oh, no.

So I like this kind of
tension between the sweet color

And the fact that you have
color.

I thought that yin and yang
was cool.

And I like the demented shoes.

I think they're great.

It makes me smile.

I like very much the cutouts
and the skirt.

I like that whole look there.

But you've got some problems
in making sure that your

Combinations are actually
balanced so that it walks out

And people are like, "oh, it's
beautiful--i'm curious."

You know, don't stop trying.

You've got to keep trying
outfits.

Okay.

I find some of the pieces
very beautiful.

For example, that vest.

That's my favorite piece.

Here's my worry with you.

I want your pieces to look more
luxurious.

Okay.

They need to look more
expensive.

That tie-dyed tank and that pant
that is really not here or

There, it looks really junior.

Okay.

You need to make this
collection much more

Sophisticated, much more
polished so that this--very

Conceptual designs that you have
are elevated.

Dmitry, we're gonna talk to you

Tell us about your looks and how
they represent your collection.

Well, I was inspired for this
collection by organic

Architecture, and especially I
looked at iconic buildings like

Guggenheim museum in new york
and sydney opera house.

And I wanted to create something
graphic, something powerful.

Kind of geometrical, but fluid
and feminine at the same time.

Well, I think it looks like
you've done a lot of work.

It looks polished.

It looks expensive.

The white dress is very
beautiful.

Can I see the back of that white
dress?

It's really...

It's great.

It's all, uh, cut.

It's all cutouts, all of it.

Right?

Yeah.

I would push yourself a
little bit more on the styling

Because there are some pieces
that could look even better.

You've got a lot of ideas.

So that it's turning out to be
a little too much.

The styling, just keep going
younger.

Keep going younger.

Try to get cooler.

Try to make sure that there's
sex appeal.

I look at it and I hope that, in
the styling, you can take it

fringe on the sleeve.

If you send it out with so much
stuff...

You can't see it anymore.

The audience loses the
jacket, so why'd you do all

The work on the jacket?

Let the purity and simplicity
of your garments shine.

That jacket should be on its
own.

So you have to find your
"wow" piece and stick it almost

With something that is a little
bit more boring, in a way, so

That that will stand out more.

But still, you know...

But not too boring.

Exac--i know it sounds weird.

It's like the porridge has to be
exactly the right temperature.

But it's true.

That's what it is.

Styling is--it's everything.

Right.

It's everything.

Christopher, tell us about
your three looks and how they

Represent your collection.

I took my mother's x-rays,
blew them up into fabric.

Which you see here and here.

You said they're x-rays?

They're x-rays, blown up.

So this is my mother.

that's a little creepy.

But I think there's something
haunting about it, but alluring.

I love the colors.

I like the leather mixed with
the beautiful fabric.

But I would have loved to have
seen, like, some major, major

"Wow" pieces.

You've got to make sure the
volume's turned up enough on

Everything so that it looks
important on the runway.

That little sweater and those
shorts, if you have the

Opportunity to go to fashion
week, you cannot send that down

The runway.

Imagine all the photographers
at the end of the runway, and

They take one photo.

Imagine this would be the photo.

It's so boring.

I don't even understand why you
would show this to us today.

I actually think the prints
are fabulous.

I love the brown and the black
combined.

These two have some real impact.

I think, though, when you're
doing sportswear and you're

Doing pieces, it's up to you as
a designer.

Keep trying every possible
combination.

Okay.

Enough that's interesting to
look at, so it doesn't get

Banal.

And today, you didn't.

But I think they're beautifully
done, but they're very normal.

I am a little surprised that
you went so dark.

And I think that what you have
done with the fabrics is great.

But in terms of the clothes,
everything looks too similar.

But I am judging from three
outfits that you chose to show

Us that look identical, and I
see very little clothes here.

There's--yes.

I mean, when I see that two
out of three outfits are a pair

Of skimpy shorts and barely-
there top, I'm worried that,

Come the finale, I'm going to
see just...no clothes.

I would have loved to show
you my pants.

I would have loved to show you,
you know, my jackets and my

Coats.

There was no time.

And I really feel that my
collection, you would have liked

But I am judging from three
outfits, so it worries me.

The good thing is, yes, your
detail is there.

That's a beautiful vest.

These three looks, I wanted
to definitely put a short,

A pant, and a dress.

And I really focused on texture
as well, just to show you what,

You know, the diversity of the
collection.

It's very goth.

It's very you, there was
definitely not a doubt in my

Mind who was the designer.

Mm-hmm.

And then, you know, when you
come to the individual pieces,

I mean, I think that your hero
is the black and white jacket.

Mm-hmm.

I think that is a very cool
jacket.

You know, this dress is a very
fine dress, but it doesn't knock

Me off my chair right now.

Mm-hmm.

It's almost too simple
in a way.

What else is there?

I have, like, a gown.

I have a lot of other pieces
I've done.

I don't know, I wish I would
have seen more of the hero

Pieces.

That's the thing.

It's a hard line.

You know, 'cause you still want
to keep you excited, in a way,

And not show everything all at
once.

to make sure that what she's

Wearing, head to toe, is
impactful and important, so that

The entire outfit is exciting?

I think the jacket's very cool.

I'm in love with the two
handbags--they're fabulous.

They're great.

The wigs are insanely ugly.

I mean, just crazy ugly.

it's not often that I had

all black and white?

You can make a collection of
black and white.

It has been done.

But you have to, more than
anyone, really focus on having
