She is how the world perceives
Classic american sportswear.
For this challenge, you will
Design a look that personifies
Your own contribution to
american sportsware.
Remember your point of view as
A designer.
You will have 30 minutes to
Sketch and use
Jacqueline kennedy as your
Inspiration.
Then we're going shopping at
Mood where you'll have a budget
of $150.
And you have until midnight

An inspiration, at first I
Thought was kind of a hindrance
Because I relate her so much to
American fashion.
And my aesthetic plays a lot
With asian ideas of aesthetic,
And so I thought that it wasn't
Gonna really mix well, but
Jacqueline kennedy was a fashion
Risk-taker without even knowing
It, and so it's gonna be a
Statement piece.
So, designers, your sketching
Time is up, and we're heading
Off to mood.

I just kind of run up and down

Fortunately, I do have a color
Palette in mind.

I think I'm losing my mind.

I really like the way it
looks.
I like the way it moves.
She fills it out perfectly.
I think that I understood this
Challenge.
They said clean, elegant,
Sophisticated, simple, but
Fashion-forward.
And I think the dress is that.
I love pencil skirts and I think
that she looks really sexy.
It's me. It's edgy.
I'm really happy with this look,
And I think that it definitely
Fulfilled the challenge and
Also fulfilled my aesthetic.
And I'm really confident in it.
I'm just so excited.
She looks so beautiful.
And she's really embodying
Jacqueline kennedy.
The entire overall look looks
Stupendous, and it looks very,
Very expensive.
I think it's very original.
It's very different.
It's things that I've never seen
Before.
And I definitely am very proud
Of what I've created.
I'm a little nervous. I'm
curious to know what the
Judges are gonna think of me
Sending down a c*ck dress.
But my model looks great.
Maybe her walking in this dress
Shall spark something in the
Judges' eye to make me safe or
Put me in the top.
It's really hard being on this
side of the runway.
I nitpick everything.
But I feel like it looks like
Something jacqueline would maybe
Wear, and, more than anything,
That's what feels good.
You know, I've come a long way
in this competition,
And I really like my garment.
There's something very beautiful
About that monochromatic outfit,
But, as my model walks down the
Runway, I think to myself, the
Skirt's too short.
Why is the skirt so short?
Oh, stop.
When I see my look coming down
the runway, I feel great.
I think I pulled off a very
Clean look, and it's very
Versatile.
I think all the pieces could
stand well on their own, but
Also changed amongst other
Garments in your wardrobe.
It was good to be done and
Relaxed, but it's nerve-racking
'Cause you just never know which
Way the bottle's gonna spin.
Once it hits the runway I have
no power.
I'm kind of sweating when I'm
Watching because of the fact
That the fit is really off on
The crotch area.
But the overall look, I really,
Really love.
Eyen defenitly has the spirit,
the grace, and the
Elegance that jacqueline kennedy
Was all about.
She looks sophisticated and
Strong and smart, and that's
Exactly what I wanted to send
Down, so I'm 150% happy with
This look.

Bit of an edge.
Immediately thought of a fall

That's why you put a jacket
Over a jacket?
Well, it's more of a vest.
'Cause she's wearing a
Jacket under the jacket, isn't
she?
I mean, it could be used as
a jacket, but it's like a
Blouse that can be a jacket.

Is that not a jacket?
It's a double-knit.
And I made it intentionally to
Be something that could be worn
As a blouse, but...
It looks like a jacket.
She can wear a camisole
Underneath, and, if she wants,
She can take it off.
Can we put it back on?
Sure.
It has no impact at all.
It's just sad looking.
I mean, she's wearing a lycra
Tube skirt with no design in it.
The jacket looks very sadly

The collar is an odd shape.
Well, I wanted to keep it
Really simple and basic, and I
Tried to put, you know...
But, guys, simple doesn't
Mean boring.
Some of the best things are very
Simple and have no design
Gimmicks to them.

When I was thinking of
Jacqueline kennedy, I was
Definitely inspired by the
Effortless, the elegant theme,
So I wanted to do a dress, a
Fitted dress, with kind of an
Asymmetrical neckline, and
Then, when we got the
Opportunity for the second
Challenge, I found these hides,
These furs, and so I cut the fur
And then I incorporated these
Pieces together to kind of
Create a stripe.
Well, this was my favorite.
The dress is beautiful.
I love the silhouette of it.
It's chic.
I loved all the draping.
I think the dress is elegant
And sexy at the same time.
I like the subtle sheen.
The wrap on the other hand, I
Like the texture, and I like the
Color.
I have to say that that dress in
Itself is a tricky one to try
To figure out what on earth you
Would wear over it.
Yes.
What you've made, I mean, it
looks like a dirty, old rug,
Because it's unreadable.
If you can't see it like that,
It's not good.
Michael drummond, tell us about
Your look.
I was thinking about things
About jackie kennedy, and I was
Thinking about a vintage
Silhouette.
I wanted to do a deconstructed
Jacket.
I did some cartridge pleating.
I just wanted to sort of make
Something modern, but something
That could also transcend to the
past.
The top underneath the jacket is
Just an insane concept.
That you would think that that
Has anything to do with american
Sportswear, I think it's
insulting.
I don't think the drop waist
Is flattering with the belt,
'Cause I just don't see any of
Her in that.
Can I see it without the
Jacket?
Your muse was a woman that is
iconic.
Yeah, she's fabulous.
Right.
I'm surprised that this is what
You have to deliver.

Look.
In my kitchen, I have a
Picture of jacqueline kennedy.
She's turning around, 'cause the
Paparazzi's chasing her.
I started playing with the
Conceptual idea of, like, she's
Always in the public eye.
I wanted to find prints and
Textiles that were overblown
And just play with that idea.
And I just wanted to keep it
Really smart, sleek, and
Streamlined.
I didn't mean your model.
I meant you.

Oh, my look?
Oh, wow.
I'm kidding.
Well, my roommates were
Asking me to tap dance earlier.
So...i don't know.
It looks sharp.
Yeah, it is loud, but you
Designed within the challenge.

Without the jacket?
I love that it has the color
In the inside.
You don't see it immediately,
But it looks complete.
I think the t-shirt's
Fabulous.
The silhouette is very classic,
Very well-tailored.
Jackie kennedy would have worn
That skirt with little flat
Shoes and a black turtleneck.
And it definitely does not look
Cheap.
The mix was very clever.
And it's fun, yet it's still
Elegant and chic.
For a modern take on it, it's
Really--really well done.
And I think you look great

When I think of
Jacqueline kennedy, I think
Classic, timeless elegance.
And I got inspired by triangles
And squares because I feel like
Shapes are timeless.
So I played around with
Contrasting of fabrics and
Making sure that there was
Something original or with my
Signature on it.
Intrinsically, it's elegant.
It's got a sharpness.
Obviously, the styling is very
Jackie.
You know, with the glasses, with
The slick chignon.
Can you close the jacket for me?
I think there's something
Interesting also that it's
Tailored, but not in the
Traditional men's sense.
I kind of like that you continue
The idea of the architectural
Geometry.
And I like the neckline.

I love it like that.
I love the tailoring of it,
And I love the seam--the
Asymmetrical seam along the
Torso.
I actually like that twisted

The main piece of my look
Obviously are these pants,
Which are draped, and they have
These big pockets on the side,
And I just felt that they were

Keeping it together.
Because I want to, like, burst
Out and crack up.
Especially for this challenge,
To come up with this?
It's like, I feel like I'm on a
Different planet.

Underneath and then this funny
Bolero over it?
I don't see it at all.

In that at all.
Well, that was one of my
Struggles too, was this idea of
American sportswear.
I don't necessarily consider
Myself an american sportswear
Designer.
So what are you, a grand

No.
I mean, come on.
If someone said to me, the
Inspiration was mc hammer meets,
You know,
The beverly hillbillies'
grandmother.
What that looks like.
The fit is horrific.
And then the ankle boot.
I mean, it's come on.
They look a little bit from
The 1800s, those boots.

It's incredibly boring and blah.

That black lycra skirt.
Ugly burgundy whatever that is.
None of the three pieces looked
Special.
It's just too boring.
Let's talk about andy.
I cannot see jackie kennedy in
This entire look.
I mean, not on this planet.
I think these pants didn't fit.
I'm just seeing ill-fitting and
Ill-appropriate.
And when you look at andy, how
He styled the model, why is she
Wearing, like, nicole kidman's
Boots from cold mountain?
And her hair from
far and away.
And she's got the far and away
hair.
Maybe it's a nicole
kidman challenge.
Because I do not know what it
is.
Let's talk about
Michael drummond.
Talk about, like, just, like,
Oh, sign me up.
I want something that's gonna
Look like my waist fell, where
My hips are growing.
The proportion of the skirt,
The belt, the tops were
Ill-fitting.
It's just--he really put it
Together terribly.
I would take the belt off.
And the jacket.
Or wear the jacket with
Something else.
It's just, you know, I mean,
It's terribly unflattering the
Way he showed it.
That was also poor and sad.

He just overthought it.
Yeah, exactly.
Everything.
Let's talk about the
Designers that we did like.
Christopher.
The dress is an elegant
Dress.
It's sexy without being vulgar.
Yeah, it fit her well.
It looked expensive.
I think he was clever in
Picking that silhouette because
It was very classic, but that
Shrug just k*lled it.
That shrug was horrible.
The dress is wearable,
though.
You'd wear that dress.

Well, I liked this.
I liked the dress.
But, yeah, I thought it fit her
well.
I thought it was tailored.
I thought it was a perfect
Silhouette for jackie
sportswear.
Mm-hmm.

We also liked mondo's.
He was the one that said he
Had a picture of jackie in his
Apartment, right?
All: yeah.
Well, it helped him.
He was able to capture just
That--that allure that she had.
It was that clean, it was a
Classic...
The silhouette.
Yes. That silhouette.
It's funny that how he
Managed to have these bold
Colors and these big patterns,
That he actually managed for it
To still look chic.
Let's talk about ivy's.
It was sleek, and it was
Elegant.
But then why are they all
Designing so old?
Well, I mean, you know what,
I don't necessarily agree with
You totally on ivy.
When you looked at the
Proportions of that top, I
Thought the neckline was great.
Um, I love that the collar kind
Of flipped up asymmetrically.
Yeah, and to be honest with
You, this is the most polished
Look and probably the best one
That I have seen from her out
On the runway.
