10x27 - Down Came the Rain and Washed the Spider Out – Parts 1

Post by bunniefuu »

[dramatic music]

We didn't get married. We made a business deal.

Fine, we made a business deal

and now our business deals are off.

If we could get the land back, then we could stop the drilling.

It's criminal fraud, Karen. She's facing five to ten years.

I don't have much of a career after all that's happened.

I feel like there's not much to lose.

Which means I could be dangerous.

Let's not get overly sentimental, shall we?

[music continues]

I would have done anything for you.

[theme music]

[narrator] Previously, on Knots Landing...

Rick Hawkins wasn't at his office.

He wasn't at home. Something has happened to him.

I know it has.

You think I k*lled him?

For heaven's sake. Why would I do that?

Why in the world would you think that?

Ted k*lled that actor. I know he did.

And Rick Hawkins has now disappeared.

But before he did, he sent me this key.

A week ago, my guy told Rick Hawkins

Murakame's drilling permits were no go.

No drilling there, period.

Well, our sources indicate that an Abby Sumner

back then Abby Ewing

is in fact the owner of the Murakame Corporation

which bought out Lotus Point.

Do you have any comment?

[tense music]

-[slams phone] -No comment.

Abby owns Murakame.

She has all along.

She defrauded me

she defrauded Gary, and she is going to jail.

I took a lot of heat when I married you.

[balloon pops]

[birds chirping]

People on the street would come up to me and say

"What the hell you married a blonde for?"

"Could sleep with her yeah. But marry her, why?"

[balloon pops]

"Why?" I said.

"Because she's got brains. That's why."

I'm not really interested in public opinion, you know.

Obviously, otherwise you wouldn't be sleeping

with Ted Melcher.

Don't you be so sanctimonious.

You set up your little teenage assistant

in a corporate suite, didn't you?

You and lover boy have put my business on the line.

Your business isn't on the line.

The hell it isn't?

My appointment as Trade Representative to Japan

has been put on hold because of you, lover boy

and Murakame.

I bought that business

before we were ever married, Greg.

Well, thanks for letting me in on the secret.

I have been the perfect corporate wife.

And that's what you hired me for.

Wasn't it?

We didn't get married. We made a business deal.

And if anybody hasn't come through, it's you.

You were going to be mayor, remember?

Fine. We made a business deal.

Well now doll, all business deals are off.

I can't find anything.

I know, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

If we can find a memo or, I don't know

a scratchpad or something that said that Abby knew

about the oil, then we'd have a chance.

Well, if I'd known that anything as insignificant as a memo

was gonna nail Abby, I would've saved everything.

Not even that she defrauded us.

If we could get the land back, then we could stop the drilling.

And then she goes to jail.

I know I said that but it was just a threat

I was angry.

It's criminal fraud, Karen. She's facing five to ten years.

-Five to ten years? -Yeah.

-But she's Sid's sister. -So what?

You'd let her off because she's

your sister-in-law?

-Hell, she was my wife. -It's not that. It's just...

I'm thinking of Brian and Olivia.

And you'd let a criminal go free because she's a friend--

No, I didn't say that.

Yeah, well, you hear it all the time, you know?

Good old Joe, he was a good friend, a great patriot.

I'm gonna stick by my buddy here

because he didn't really intend to break the law.

He was just stretching it a little.

She wasn't stretching it a little.

-She was-- -Committing criminal fraud.

Committing criminal fraud.

[dramatic music]

Abby defrauded her partner.

She knew there was oil under the land.

None of the people I spoke to can verify that.

She must have slipped up somewhere.

Ted, I can't print your story without some proof.

-Proof. Do you want proof? -Yeah.

I'll get your proof.

[music continues]

[door closes]

What are you doing in my office?

-You can't come in. -I'm the president of Murakame.

We work for the owner.

-I have to get my papers. -Take that up with the owner.

I'll take it up with the police. You can't take my things.

You take it up with the police. Take it up with the mayor.

Take it up with the president. I don't care.

You're on my way.

-I just wanna get my-- -Lock the door, Joe.

I'll call the police.

[door closes]

[telephone ringing]

-Hello. -You the manager?

Yeah, but if you're inquiring about the vacancy

in 1002, pal, it's after hours.

Why don't you call back tomorrow morning, huh?

This is Greg Sumner. I own the building.

Oh, excuse me, Mr. Sumner. I didn't know it was you.

[chuckles] I'm new on the job. I just started last week.

Yeah, I want you to cancel the vacancy

in 1002.

[sighs] Yes, sir.

Tell the tenant she does not have to move.

Doesn't have to...

She... She hasn't paid the rent, sir.

-Did I ask you that? - No, sir.

Alright, who do you want me to send the bill to?

I don't want you to bill anyone.

I just want you to tell her she doesn't have to move.

And don't tell her I called.

Alright.

Goodbye.

[tense music]

[female voice] Chronicle.

With Marjorie Stahl, please.

-[Marjorie] Marjorie Stahl. -You didn't print my story.

[Marjorie] I haven't gotten any confirmation.

What about Karen MacKenzie?

Gary Ewing? Couldn't they find anything?

[Marjorie] No, it's your word against Abby Sumner's.

I can't print that.

Ted?

Ted?

[dramatic music]

[sighs]

He did do it.

Wait a minute. Wait a minute.

Let me get this straight. Alright

Your boss's wife had you fired because you knew too much

about a Japanese corporation.

That isn't really Japanese but you think that she owns it

and is hiding that fact from your boss

and your father, and your father's wife

who your boss' wife used to be partners with.

-Yes -Alright.

And you think that your boss' wife

and her lover ...

Who says he owns the company .

Right, are responsible for the deaths

of two men involved in that same Japanese corporation

that might not exist.

How do you know

that Rick Hawkins' death was an accident?

Because we have coroners .

And the coroner said that Mr. Hawkins

was blow-drying his hair when he slipped

and fell in the bathtub.

So you're not gonna do anything about this?

All we've got is an accidental death

and a very crazy story cooked up

by a very nervous but very pretty young woman.

Many of you have been receiving calls from the press.

Under no circumstances talk to these people.

I am going to make an announcement

to the media this afternoon.

-Alright? -[workers] Yes.

Thanks.

[elevator bell dings]

Ted, you scared me.

Hi, I was just coming to see you.

I'd love to chat but I'm really in a hurry.

Oh, I won't keep you.

Come on in. We'll talk in the elevator.

[dramatic music]

We haven't spent much time together lately.

Well, Greg's back in town, isn't he?

Oh, there are ways around that.

[tense music]

I have a lot to do today.

People can wait a few minutes.

I have to get down to the publicity department, Ted.

Your bio.

"The lovely Mrs. Sumner, successful businesswoman

noted environmentalist, distinguished community leader."

Very impressive.

[elevator bell dings]

Oh, will you please excuse us and use the next elevator?

I'm testing this one.

You're gonna hand this out at the press conference?

-You heard about it? -Yes.

Someone has been spreading lies to the press.

I've got to set them straight for both our sakes.

Don't!

You're gonna give a press conference

for both our sakes?

You already made a scapegoat out of me once.

Forced me to resign the Sumner Group.

I went along with that

because that was for both our sakes

and because we were gonna get all that oil

but now I find out that there is no oil.

-Is there? -There is oil--

Yeah, but you can't drill. Can you?

I just found out that we were denied the permits.

Great.

Great, because now I know

how much you're gonna help me get my career back on track

now that I don't have Murakame to support me anymore.

You see, I don't have

much of a career after what's happened.

People aren't returning my phone calls.

I... I feel...

I feel like there's not much to lose.

Which means I could be dangerous.

So at that press conference

I want you to clear my name. I don't care how you do that.

You can blame Rick Hawkins. You can blame your husband.

[shouting] I don't know. You just do it.

[elevator button clicks]

You clear me...

Or we're going down together.

And that's a promise.

[elevator bell dings]

[sighs]

[Olivia and Harold laugh]

[both sigh]

Tell the truth.

Aren't you glad you waited?

-No. -Yes you are.

No, I'm not.

You mean, you don't enjoy it?

Of course I do.

And I knew that I would.

But we could've been doing this months ago.

Look at all time that we've wasted.

Well, I'm willing to make up for lost time.

Uh-uh. Nope. We gotta get dressed.

-No, we don't. -[chuckles] Yes.

-This is our honeymoon. -No. I invited my mother over.

She's gonna be here in a second.

-On our honeymoon? -Yes.

I want her to see how happy we are.

And then she'll know that we did the right thing.

You're nuts.

-Cuckoo. Mm-hmm. -No.

[knock on door]

Wait, will you go answer the door

while I get dressed, please?

[knock on door]

I married a fruitcake.

-[clears throat] -[knock on door]

Hi, ma'am. Paige?

Harold, I have a problem

and I thought you might be able to help.

Do you know what kind of key this is?

Who do you think I am, a locksmith?

No, I think you're a guy with a criminal record

who probably has a lot of experience picking locks.

Look, this is my honeymoon, okay?

I don't need any grief on my honeymoon.

Get out.

Harold, I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to upset you.

I need help.

Okay, let me see it.

[sighs]

It belongs to a post office box.

-A post office box? -Mm-hm.

Well, is there any way to tell which post office?

Your guess is as good as mine.

[sighs]

Is that all?

Yeah. Thanks.

[door closes]

Need any help getting dressed?

Hello, Paige.

You've been behind Murakame from the beginning

and I'm going to prove it.

Oh, not now. I'm not in the mood.

Your biggest mistake was setting me up.

I didn't set you up.

You were fired because you stole

from the company.

That has nothing to do

with your fantasies about Murakame.

For years you have lied and cheated and conned people

and you've gotten away with it

but I am not gonna let you get away with this.

You're good. You really are.

If I were rating you

on the Abby scale, Abby being a ten

you'd be a six, which is very good

considering your youth and ignorance.

Well, I don't judge things on the Abby scale

and neither does Greg.

Don't count on it.

[knock on door]

-Hi. -Hi, honey.

So this is the honeymoon suite, huh?

Yeah.

Yup.

Mother, thanks for coming.

I-I really wanted you to see how happy I am

and for you to know that I did do the right thing.

So, is...

Is this where you're gonna live?

Yeah. Yeah. I-I know it doesn't...

It doesn't look like much but...

At least Harold and I are sharing it, you know?

Honey... [sighs]

You know, you are so young

and this all seems very romantic to you now--

Mother, stop. Please?

Look, there is nothing that you can do or say

that will change my mind, okay?

I had such high hopes for you.

Yeah, you had such high hopes and you had such plans.

But did you ever bother to ask me what I wanted?

All this seems like what you want now.

I know that.

But there's a whole world out there just filled

with interesting, exciting people

and wonderful places.

You can go to school in Paris and London, wherever you want.

It's all out there just waiting for you.

It's not too late to get an annulment, you know?

An annulment? Mother.

Please listen to me.

This is what I want. You just don't understand.

I don't care where we live.

I don't... I don't care how much money we have.

-It doesn't matter. -Oh, no, it doesn't matter now.

That's what you think now.

But I remember only too well what all this was like.

I remember clipping coupons and then going to the store

on Double Coupon Day to cash them in.

I remember scrimping and saving and worrying every single month

if I was gonna make the rent or not.

Do you want that?

Olivia, you don't even know

what a gas bill looks like, for heaven's sake.

How are you gonna cope with this?

Don't you think that it's about time that I find out?

Look, I want to do this

on my own and without your help, okay?

I am an adult now and I am going to live my life.

Alright. You live your own life, Olivia.

And I wish you all the luck in the world.

[sad music]

Let me have your credit cards.

-What? -Your credit cards.

That comes under the heading of Help From Mom, doesn't it?

Oh.

Yeah, I wasn't gonna keep them, okay?

Here you go.

And your car keys.

Wait, that is my car. You gave it to me.

That car is registered in my name.

I pay the payments and I pay the insurance

which I don't think you can afford.

[keys clattering]

I don't need this stupid car anyway.

I certainly wouldn't want to interfere

with your new-found independence.

Well, as in, "Someday you'll thank me next?"

That was implied.

[dramatic music]

[door closes]

This press conference is gonna be a joke.

Abby's going to try to cover her tracks.

What do you expect?

You know, I'm gonna ask Paige

if she'll check the Sumner Group records.

Maybe she can find something in the files about Murakame.

-She can't do it. -Why not?

She doesn't work for Sumner Group anymore.

-Did she quit? -Nope.

Well, what happened?

She was fired.

Wait a minute. Why was she fired?

Office politics.

It was because she knew too much

about Murakame and Abby, wasn't it?

No, not that kind of office politics.

What?

Abby didn't like the fact

that her husband was sleeping with his assistant.

-Now, can you blame her? -Greg?

Yeah, and she had no right to do that

while she was staying in this house.

Are you sure that's true?

I asked her.

She treated me like I was nothing.

I'm her father, Karen.

-Her father. -I know.

And until she apologizes

she's not stepping foot inside that house.

She's an adult.

She can see whoever she wants to see.

Greg Sumner? What happened to her values?

-He's a married man. -I know.

She shouldn't have slept with a married man.

[dramatic music]

I'm ready to go.

I gotta go.

-Great. -Great.

I just talked to my landlord

and he said the water heater's fixed

and I can move back into the apartment.

Let me know how the press conference goes.

[engine rumbling]

[piano music]

I'm sorry if my staying here has made things rough for you.

Oh, no, no.

That was just a... That was a personal problem.

I'm glad we could help you.

Actually, your being here has been terrific for me.

I've had someone to help me fight Murakame.

Thanks.

I'm always one for lost causes.

Well, it's not a lost cause yet.

Let's go.

-What paper are you with? - Truth and Justice Monitor.

Thank you.

"Abby Ewing Sumner.

Successful businesswoman and noted environmentalist."

What's been noted is she wants to destroy the environment.

[Gary] Maybe I can get her to autograph this.

"To Gary. Love defrauding you. All my love, Abby."

What do you think?

[Paige] I have this post office key

and I need to find out which box it belongs to.

-You forgot your box number? -Well, no, I never had it.

But the key belonged to a friend of mine who died.

Oh, well...

If he had a box at this branch

you still have to go through the county

to get his personal effects.

Well, I don't know that it was at this branch.

-All I have is the key. -I'm sorry.

I really have no way of tracing it.

Well, don't you have some kind of system

that sorts out the keys?

Well, we don't put the box numbers on them

for your own protection.

You must have some sort of system.

Some keys have serial numbers on them

but the serial number still won't tell you

what station they're from.

It's just an internal code to help sort out the logs.

We have no central filing system.

Besides, this key doesn't even have a serial number on it.

I'm really sorry I can't help you.

Next.

[tense music]

This is great. "Noted environmentalist."

Makes you seem almost human.

Sweet of you to be here, Ted.

Oh, I wouldn't miss this for the world.

Tell me something.

Did you hit Rick Hawkins over the head

before or after you put him in the bathtub?

Please.

If anyone had a motive for m*rder, it's you.

I suppose you didn't sabotage Mr. Maeda's car either.

The best defense is a good offense.

But you went driving with him, didn't you?

You're not even making sense anymore.

Why would I go driving with him if I sabotaged his car?

[tense music]

Let's see what we have here.

Oh.

Here's a picture of Ted handing Mr. Maeda a briefcase.

You suppose there's money in it.

This is less than nothing.

All I did was drop off a briefcase.

The briefcase you gave me.

A picture of Ted getting into Mr. Maeda's car.

I like this one.

A picture of Mr. Maeda's car at a gas station.

And what's this?

Ted's doing something under the hood of the car.

Isn't that nice?

You must have been fixing something.

Who took these?

Rick Hawkins.

I can't imagine why.

Do you know any reason he might not have trusted you?

Alright, Ted, I want you there when I address the press.

And if you have any off-the-cuff remarks to make

I hope you're prudent.

Remember what the penalty is for m*rder in this state.

[music continues]

[door closes]

I do own the Murakame Corporation.

It is my company.

But I purchased the firm only a week ago.

When it was made clear to me

that they were about to destroy fragile wetlands

I could not reveal this at first

due to private negotiations with the government.

[whispering] What's the government got to do with it?

But now I am happy to announce

that all the red tape has been cleared away.

And I can donate

the land that was once owned by the Murakame Corporation

to the government as a wildlife preserve.

[indistinct chatter]

[applause]

-sh*t. -I know, I know.

I'm sure that my former partners Karen MacKenzie and Gary Ewing

share my joy

at being able to preserve this beautiful land

that was once known as Lotus Point.

[applauds]

Brava. Brava.

You're unbelievable. This is the best one yet.

She can make the r*pe of Poland

look like a Sunday school picnic.

[indistinct chatter]

I see Mr. Ewing does not share my joy

about the creation of this preserve.

I should have anticipated his reaction

since I used to be married to him.

Now you know why we're divorced.

[people laughing]

[indistinct chatter]

I have every confidence in my wife's ability

to explain the misconceptions about Murakame.

She's a very talented speaker.

Years of experience.

I know this was slow and coming but...

We finally cleared the appointment

for the Trade Representative post to Japan.

I take it your trip here is indicative

of a positive response?

Yes.

So I've got the post.

I've got some good news and some bad news.

Well, let's start with the good news.

It looks like you will be going to Tokyo.

What's the bad news?

Abby Sumner is our new Trade Representative to Japan.

[applause]

[dramatic music]

[reporter] Did the donation of Lotus Point

influence your decision?

I've heard enough.

We are thrilled about the new park

but we chose Mrs. Sumner

based on her extensive business background

and her invaluable international connections.

When did you get the idea to purchase Murakame?

[Abby] I'm sorry, that's all the time we have

for questions.

Way to go, Abbs.

I told you everything would work out.

We're gonna love it in Japan.

Yeah, raw fish will k*ll you. I think I'll take a pass.

[music continues]

[door closes]

You are not gonna believe what happened.

-First of all, I get there-- -Just don't do anything--

-What? -Listen.

I don't hear anything.

Exactly.

Meg's asleep. Michael's at school.

-Paula is in her own apartment. -Oh, Mack.

We've got the whole place to ourselves.

Isn't that wonderful?

Abby got away with everything.

I know. I saw it on the news.

Trying to convince everyone she donated Lotus Point

for altruistic reasons.

Who cares? Forget about Abby.

She's on her way to Japan. She's out of our lives.

Gone forever.

Hey. I think we should celebrate.

Karen. It's just the two of us.

Alone.

How does she weasel out of everything?

How does she do it? I don't understand.

It's Abby you are talking about? She's like a cat.

She always lands on her feet.

Sweetheart, what if she was indicted?

I mean, suppose she was indicted for fraud.

And suppose she was convicted.

You know, she would have got a presidential pardon

and had the Medal of Freedom thrown in

just for the hell of it.

-Sweetheart. -[doorbell rings]

Oh, great, great, great. Company.

She never should've gotten away with it.

Hi.

Could I come in?

How can you have the nerve to come over here?

To say goodbye, Karen.

Well, that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me.

-Goodbye. -And to give you this.

What?

It's...

It's your mother's bracelet.

I borrowed it for my wedding, remember?

It's your mother's.

She gave it to you.

I didn't want to take anything that belonged to you.

You have got to be kidding. You took Lotus Point.

I did not take Lotus Point.

I turned it into a park

so millions of people could enjoy it.

Now I thought you of all people would be thrilled.

Thrilled?

Thrilled that you conned everybody again?

Ever since you moved to Knots Landing, you've been...

You've been cheating a-and stealing.

You stole Val's husband, you tried to steal Meg

and you cheated me out of Lotus Point.

Just hold on.

I'm sorry you feel this way, Karen

but as for Gary and I, we fell in love.

Nobody could help that. Nobody predicted that.

Nobody could prevent that.

And if Val was hurt in the process, I'm sorry.

Val is a nice person. She really is.

A little dull but she's nice.

And she's made a very nice suburban life

for herself here.

She seems to be happy. So it all worked out, didn't it?

And as for Meg, that was Greg's idea.

And to tell you the truth, I'm glad you got custody of her.

He would not have been a very good parent.

Why didn't you say that at the time?

[sighs]

I misjudged him.

It is for Lotus Point, Karen.

I donated that land as much for you as I did for me.

If that was the case, you could have asked me first.

You're right.

You're right. I should have.

And I'm sorry.

Because I have always trusted you.

And I have... Always admired your judgment.

What's that supposed to mean?

It means if I didn't admire your judgment

I wouldn't...

...ask a favor of you.

You have got to be kidding. A favor.

Would you...

Please?

Keep an eye on Olivia while I'm gone.

Of course.

Thank you.

That takes a big load off of my mind.

Well, I'm touched...

...that you want your daughter...

...to be influenced by me.

I didn't say that.

I just said I wanted you to keep an eye on her.

[door closes]

I don't blame Olivia.

If I had Abby for a mother, I'd do exactly the same thing.

Karen, let it go.

I can't stop thinking about it. I'm sorry.

That's just the way I am.

You're gonna make yourself crazy.

I'm not making myself crazy.

-Abby's making me crazy. -You know...

You need a vacation. We need a vacation.

The only way to get privacy around here is to go away.

[sighs] Vacation?

Yeah.

-I'll take you anywhere. -Oh, Mack...

To London, to Paris.

To North Dakota.

Anywhere, any place.

I kind of like to go up to the mountains.

Mountains are fine. Mountains are great. Fresh air.

And those birds.

And no Abby.

You know what upsets me the most about Abby?

That she's still out there.

[dramatic music]

[elevator bell dings]

[elevator bell dings]

[music continues]

[door slams]

Do you use everyone?

Do you ever think of anybody other than yourself?

Let's not get overly sentimental, shall we?

I would have done anything for you.

You did too much.

That's the problem, Ted.

Now take your hands off of me.

There aren't going to be any more accidents.

If anything happens to me, if the brakes go out on my car,

if my toaster falls into the bathtub

while I'm taking a bath,

the photographs that I showed you

go to the police.

So as long as I'm alive and well

you have nothing to fear.

Unfortunately, there is

something else.

What?

I found this in Rick Hawkins's papers.

"Paige, if you get this key, you're right about Ted, and..."

He wrote a note to Paige on his phone pad

but he didn't realize it was on a carpet.

He never was as smart as you, was he?

He didn't finish it. He probably never sent it.

Maybe not.

Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't think it's a problem.

Probably not.

I hope not, for your sake.

But I never did find the negatives to those photos.

Well, maybe he destroyed them.

And maybe he didn't.

It's my grandfather's key. It's so sad.

He has Alzheimer's and he can't remember

his box number, so we can't pick up

his Social Security checks

and I just don't know what to do.

-What's his name? -Rick Hawkins.

Let me check.

[indistinct chatter]

I'm sorry. He's not at this branch.

What, is there any way to find out where his box is?

Well, you could check his zip code

and go to his local post office.

He already had Alzheimer's when he rented the box

so it's not at his local branch.

Does your grandfather keep good records?

Excuse me?

Well, you might be able to find a receipt for the box rental

or maybe a cancelled check to the postmaster.

-Well, that's where I'd start. -Thank you.

[laughs]

You have the number of Eagles Nest?

-Yes. -Okay.

And the pediatricians...

And the police, and the fire department

[laughs] and every hospital in the area.

And I gave you the medical release, so...

Yes, so you can go and relax, have a good time.

-We're gonna be fine. -Yeah. Thanks.

Hey, you're gonna have a real good time while I'm gone, huh?

-Aren't you? Right? -Mm-hm.

And I'm gonna be gone for two days

and I'm gonna call you every day.

And you know what?

You can tell Pat if you wanna talk to me.

Alright? Okay?

Come on. Let's go blow bubbles.

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, bubbles.

-Say bye to Daddy. -Hey, bye, kid.

-Bye-bye. -Oh sweetie.

Bye-bye.

Wanna blow bubbles? Say bye! Say bye.

We have to take her with us.

-Yeah, right. -I can't stand it.

-You'll do fine. -[car approaches]

Hey.

-Hi. -Hi.

-Let me help you. -No. Got it.

This is really so nice of you.

I'm going to put myself in the car.

Oh, sure. We're ready to roll.

Okay.

-Hi. -Hi.

I gotta go pay him.

What is she doing?

-Didn't I tell you? I told you. -Told me what?

We're giving her a lift to Dune Lake.

You didn't tell me. We were gonna be alone.

-I wanna be alone. -We are gonna be alone.

We're just gonna drop her off on the way.

You know how unreliable her car is.

How could you do this? You know what Dune Lake...

-You know how far Dune Lake is? -I'm sure I told you.

-How far is it to Dune Lake? -I know how far...

I don't know. A few hours.

Oh, it's just a few hours and then we'll be alone, honey.

-You didn't tell me. -I told you.

-You didn't tell me. -[grunting] I told you, honey.

-We'll have fun. -We'll have a ball.

That never worked.

That kind of trick is just a TV gimmick.

My wife tried it once when she was locked out.

She finally wound up tearing off a screen.

Cost me nearly 50, 60 dollars to replace.

That's awful.

I just got back in town

and the airlines lost my suitcase.

My keys must have been in the suitcase.

Isn't that stupid?

You should notify the post office

when you're going on a trip.

You can arrange

for a holiday mail stop, you know.

Oh, thank you. We should have thought of that.

Well, next time.

Yeah, thank you. Next time.

Sorry to see you go, kid.

-I'm gonna miss you. -Feeling's mutual.

Of course I am kind of looking forward

to seeing those geisha girls.

I bet you are.

Gonna do a little flower arranging, huh?

-Ugh! -Ah!

I'm sorry it turned out this way.

Not as sorry as the Japanese are.

[Abby laughs]

You know, I think our marriage fell apart

because of lack of communication.

-Really? -Yeah.

If I had known that you owned Murakame

I wouldn't have k*lled the oil permits.

What?

See, I thought Murakame was just jerking me around

so I put a kibosh on the oil permit.

So what did you lose? Twenty, thirty million?

[chuckles] I guess we should have talked more.

Oh well, the oil was only worth money

and I've got plenty of that.

Do I believe my ears?

By donating Lotus Point I got power.

In the long run, power's a lot more fun.

Bye, baby.
