[Pearson] Gary, did you throw her out of the house?

This afternoon.

Did she leave voluntarily?

I just want this over with.

Gary, will you be filing for divorce?

I don't know.

Look, do what you have to do.

Put new locks on the doors, clamp bars on the windows.

I don't want her spending another dime of my money.

Alright, in that case,

I've already had some papers drawn up.

All I need is your signature right now.

This gives notice to the bank to freeze the assets

of Gary Ewing Enterprises and its subsidiaries,

including Apolune.

And tomorrow, I'll file a motion with the court.

The judge will issue a temporary restraining order.

But the fact that the two of you are married

as well as being officers of the corporation

could make it very difficult.

I don't care how difficult it is.

What do you want me to do about her?

I don't care what you do.

Just don't throw her out on the street.

It wouldn't look good.

[mellow music]

Mrs. Ewing, tell me something.

Is there another entrance to your apartment?

Yes, up here.

Good. Use it from now on.

As of tonight, this office and all its contents are sealed.

No!

What does he want?

-I go on television to clear-- -Who set me up?

I told you, you set yourself up.

You haven't told me anything.

Why can't you accept the fact that I made a mistake

and I've tried to correct it?

You're covering not correcting.

Listen, I realize how rough

this has been on the both of you,

but you're not the only ones

who have lost sleep over me--

Come on, Sumner.

I think if you put your personal feelings aside,

you'll realize that this crime--

Just tell me who set me up.

Or you can take your apologies and your good offers

and your lost sleep and you get out of here.

Okay.

You're making this impossible for me,

so I won't be back.

Thank God you did that.

[Val] So where exactly is it that you land?

Well, we fly in here, but then the hotel is further afield.

What kind of a-a hotel is it?

-Small. -Uh-huh.

But then it'd have to be,

because one Colombian family runs it.

They cater mostly to Americans, Europeans.

It does have indoor plumbing, doesn't it?

Yes. At least I think it does.

-And electricity. -What is your problem?

It's no problem.

No problem at all.

That is, um...

If you still want me to go with you.

[chuckles] This is gonna be the best experience

of your life, both of our lives. Ah!

Well, I figured it was the least that I could do

now that we're gonna be mister and missus, you know...

It is gonna be rough. I mean, Club Med, it ain't.

Oh, come on, silly. I know better.

Oh, but we're gonna be together.

Ah, and we're gonna see and do incredible things.

And we're gonna see what's happening in this world.

Would you like a cup of coffee?

No, thanks. Not for me.

I'm gonna make us some, alright?

[Ben] Well, I guess if you're gonna go ahead and make it...

-I'll have a cup. -Okay, it's comin' right up.

Valene, what is it?

It's nothing, mama, okay. Nothing.

You are not okay.

Oh, sweet pea, what is it?

It... They're just ordinary pregnancy pains, mama,

and they're gonna go away.

Now, don't you dare say anything to Ben, hear me?

Oh, darling--

Don't.

-Oh, sweetheart. -Mama.

[horse neighing]

[car appraoching]

[birds chirping]

[Abby] Did you have breakfast?

-[Olivia] Yes. -[Abby] What'd you have?

[Olivia] Everything's alright.

[Abby] I know.

[Olivia] The bus is gonna be here any minute.

[Abby] Honey...

I'm looking for a place for us.

[Olivia] I don't wanna move.

I'm telling you, Olivia, I'm not asking you.

You're gonna miss your bus, Olivia.

-Where have you been? -What are you doing here?

[sighs] Maria called me at 6 o'clock this morning

to tell me that you hadn't been home all--

I was out driving.

I was so concerned about Olivia.

Well, if you're so concerned, take her.

See how long you hold on to her before she runs away.

I came back here, and the only reason I came back,

because I could have kept on driving all day and all night

till I fell off the face of the earth,

the only reason I came back

was because of Brian and Olivia.

Look, Gary, I don't wanna fight.

Fine, then leave.

I'm gonna send for the children as soon as I can.

No hurry. They're happy here.

I'm their mother, and I wanna see them.

I won't stop you.

Just let me know when you're gonna be here,

so I can be someplace else.

[mellow music]

So what are you gonna do today?

Um, I thought I'd go this afternoon and get my shots

because the doctor told me

that there's a 10-day incubation period.

Are you feeling alright?

Yeah, I'm fine.

I'm just excited about the trip, that's all,

and I haven't been able to sleep the last few nights.

Come on, better get going.

Why don't you try and take a nap today?

Yeah, I probably will later.

Glad you made your decision.

So am I.

You better go.

-See ya. -Okay.

Bye.

Oh.

Oh!

Oh! Oh!

Valene!

Valene!

Darling, what is it?

-Darling, what is it? -[Valene groaning]

She's been having these pains.

Let's get her inside.

-[Valene groans] -Oh, alright, come on.

Call the doctor. Go ahead, open the door.

Call a doctor. Quick!

[exhales sharply]

[sighs] Shouldn't you be packing?

I don't have to take orders from you.

Do you want me to tell Ray what's going on?

You've already told Ray.

That you and Gary are alone here now?

[sighs] I don't work for you anymore, Abby.

You know, your job did not include moving in.

I'm not moving in.

But you'd like to, wouldn't you?

You don't love him. You couldn't love him and--

Look, you cheated on him as much as anyone--

You cheated him! You paid me.

And I didn't know what you were doing.

Well, now it's time for you to get out.

[Gary] This is my ranch.

I decide who stays and who goes.

And I want you to go.

[instrumental music]

Well, she runs, five or six miles a day.

I mean, she's in better shape now than most women at 20.

Oh. That doctor's been up in Val's room for so long.

It hasn't been that long.

Oh, I just don't want anything to go wrong.

It won't.

Dr. Kellin, is Val alright?

-Val's gonna be fine. -Oh!

She'll be in bed this next week, to rest mostly.

-And then what? -[Dr. Kellin] Well...

If she feels alright, she can resume normal activities.

-[gasps] -Gradually.

Can I see her?

Sure.

Dr. Kellin, tell me the truth.

Well, it's a delicate time for her.

She has to take things easy.

And you've got to make sure that she avoids stress.

I will.

She told me about El Salvador.

[sighs] That is definitely not to be considered.

Is she gonna lose the baby?

Probably not.

We tried calling your office this morning.

Seems your phone is no longer in service.

It's out of order.

They're supposed to fix it this afternoon.

I don't know how you can do business.

Well, we've both overcome

bigger obstacles than that, haven't we?

Well...

The water table adjustments have been made,

the pylons are set.

Lotus Point is just a matter of time now, isn't it?

I try to curb my enthusiasms.

As a matter of fact, I-I read

about a similar project in Florida

where they recouped their investment

in less than a year and a half.

-Barron Bay? -[Abby] Mm-hmm.

You know, our, um, loan payments on Lotus Point

are due the first of the month.

I've come here to see if I can't obtain

a new line of credit from you.

Don't tell me Apolune is short of cash.

No, no. Just a little overextended.

And we don't want it to bolt on the loan.

You've extended us credit before.

You know we're good for it.

Things were different then.

I understand your husband has frozen all his assets.

Temporarily.

What can I tell 'em you have for collateral?

What's already in progress at Lotus Point.

Are you willing to risk all that?

If I thought it was a risk, I wouldn't suggest it.

They'll look into it. I'll get back to you.

Be sure to let us know when your phone is reconnected.

[dramatic music]

Gary?

I'm home from school.

Mrs. Hale handed back our book of what's today.

She gave me a B plus.

Great.

When you went out driving last night, where'd you go?

Nowhere really. I just needed to get away.

Didn't matter where.

What did you mean when you said you could've

driven off the face of the earth?

I didn't mean it literally.

I'm not going to hurt myself.

What did you mean?

[sighs]

When I bought this ranch,

I thought it could be a place where nobody could hurt me.

Where I could escape from the world.

I guess that's the lesson I learned.

You can't escape.

But that doesn't stop me from trying sometimes.

Do you want to be alone?

Yeah.

[instrumental music]

We'll go riding later.

Mack?

[Mack] Karen?

Yeah? I'm home.

[Mack] Oh.

-Hi. -Hi.

-Half day? -Yeah.

-You want to know why? -Why?

-Because I missed you. -Good.

I was thinking about you, um...

I just think it's great what you said to Greg.

I was a little worried you'd go back to him.

There's no way in the world I'd ever work

with Greg Sumner again.

I know.

Now that he's publicly cleared you,

the disbarment proceedings will be dropped

and-and you'll get a new job.

-That's right. -You will.

-A better job. -Oh, you got that right.

-I'll see you later? -Hmm. Where are you going?

-Out to the ranch to see Gary. -How come?

Abby's file.

What?

Well, she's not going to let me near that file...

-Without a court order. -Mack!

I figured Gary would want to help me

if there's any value to what Laura said--

-Mack! -What?

Are you still investigating Wolfbridge or not?

[chuckles] What are you asking?

You told Greg that you weren't going back

to the crime commission.

-That's right. -When I said I was glad...

it was because I thought you weren't

going after Wolfbridge again.

-After all that's happened? -Because of all that's happened!

There's a better chance of getting them now without--

There's a better chance of your getting k*lled!

[phone ringing]

Hello?

-Yes, he is. Who's calling? -Who is it?

One minute.

It's Frank Markham from the Governor's office.

Frank.

We're $80 over the feed bill this month.

I know. It's because you wanted the crimped oats.

We ordered the crimped oats two months ago.

Well, I decided to use it for all the horses this month.

-You should have asked me. -I did.

Look, let's get something straight, Cathy.

I said you could stay on because you do a good job.

You're a profitable asset to the ranch.

And that's the only reason?

You got it.

Well, you know you can trust me with the dad-gum feed orders.

I mean, you've always trusted me with the ranch work.

I don't trust anybody.

[sighs]

-Hi, Gary, how you doing? -Busy, you know.

Oh, good, then I'll get right to the point,

won't waste your time, I need your help.

What kind of help?

I have to see the Apolune file for Lotus Point.

-Too late. -Why?

There isn't gonna be a Lotus Point.

-I've shut everything down. -I figured that.

But I still need to see the files.

Files are in the office. The office is sealed.

-Hey, what the hell's going on? -You tell me.

My money was Apolune. My wife was Apolune.

I didn't know a damn thing about it.

I didn't know either.

I was supposed to be married.

Laura was supposed to be working for me.

Cathy Geary was...

I don't know what the hell she was supposed to be doing.

-I've been lied to by everybody. -You've been betrayed.

Figure it out for yourself. Look at you. Poor Gary Ewing.

Lied to, cheated, misunderstood.

-Never hurt anybody. -Save it, Mack.

Your wife and Wolfbridge are using your money to hurt people,

as long as you stay here on your ranch feeling

sorry for yourself, they're gonna continue to do that.

But you can stop them, Gary. We can stop them together.

But you won't do that, will you, Big Daddy?

Then you'd have no one else to blame.

[instrumental music]

For the past 12 years, I have been a member

of the State Assembly.

In 12 years, I've stood for all of the right things.

And for 12 years, I've never gotten one bill passed.

let alone muster enough support for a nomination

for the United States Senate.

I was considered uncooperative,

undisciplined, and not a team player.

So on my 44th birthday, which was this past year,

I decided to give myself a present.

Flexibility.

And since I've become flexible, I've gotten six bills passed,

and I am one step away from the United States Senate.

I've gotten more idealistic work accomplished

through my compromises than all the idealists could.

Are you okay?

I'm getting through it without a drink.

Good.

[mellow music]

[music continues]

[doorbell rings]

Where is she?

Well, well, well, well.

Abby Cunningham.

Where's Olivia?

She's upstairs with Valene and Gary.

Would you mind going upstairs and getting her for me?

Gary's probably been up there, ooh, close to half an hour.

-Honey-- -What are you doing out of bed?

It's nothing, mama. It's just for a few minutes--

She's just tired after a long day.

Did you really walk all the way here?

Well, Gary will probably let her stay home tomorrow.

-I don't think so. -Nobody cares what you think.

-Look, after today-- -Shut up!

Don't tell me to shut up!

Cathy's at the ranch.

You forgave Laura.

Did they treat you any better than I did? Why me?

Why am I the only one you won't forgive?

You're my wife.

[melancholic music]

Come on, mother.

Gary's gonna divorce you.

I guess I better get used to living with you.

I'm gonna take her home with me.

-That's up to Olivia. -No, it's not!

[music continues]

Go say goodbye to everyone, okay?

You go with your mama now.

Be a big girl.

She needs you.

Love you.

[melancholic music]

Gary...

[mellow music]

[sighs]

Goodnight.

[music continues]

[intense music]
