-I caught a Fraggle!-[screams]

-This is the big moment,
Sprocket.-[Sprocket barks]

-Time to try out my
newest invention, -[sniffing]

my cordless, portable
power generator.

I fill up this ordinary measuring
cupwith ordinary earth.

And then I put itin this
ordinary-looking hopper.

My generator workson the
garden-variety of earth, Sprocket.

And if I'm right, this will bea
great, cheap source of power.

A few final adjustments.

There we are and here we go.

[panting]

-[grunting]-What? Again?

[stuttering] I don't
believe it. I give up.

-[whines]-I don't have
it anymore, Sprocket.

-[grunts]-I've lost it.

This is the fifth invention
in a row, so-called invention,

-that hasn't worked.-[whimpers]

I've lost it, not that I'm
sure that I ever had it.

-[whimpering]-Look

And inventing is the only
thingl ever really wanted to do,

but I'm not inventing anything.

-[whimpering]-So

Well, tell us about how
Uncle Mattbecame an explorer.

-Yeah.-Oh, yeah, I love that.

Uncle Gobo, of course.

-Huh?-Now as I was
saying, he... Uncle Gobo?

Yeah, my uncle's uncle.
I'm named after him.

-Oh!-You are? Wow!

Tell us about Uncle
Matt's first big trip.

-Yeah.-And stumble
and fall. [laughs]

His first big journey
as an explorer.

-Journey, yeah.-All right.

-If that's what you
really want.-Yeah, yeah.

Well, this all took
place a long time ago.

Uh-huh.

Now, naturally, you all thinkof
Matt Fraggle the way he is today...

-[Gobo] Yeah.-Yeah.

-His magnificent
white hair, -[sniffs]

his gorgeously graceful
body. [chuckling]

[clicks tongue] Hmm.

[Storyteller] But at the timeof this
story, Matt was still quite young,

with a full, heavenly
headof beautiful blond hair.

Whoops!

-Oh, Matt!-Yes, sir?

[yells]

-Oh, drat.-[grunting]

Oh, deepest apologies, Uncle
Gobo. My problem, I'm sure.

-[groans]-I was just
practicing my rock climbing.

-Give it up, boy.-But why?

Is there something
wrongwith my technique?

Yes. You!

-Ah, good. I can
work on that.-[groans]

-[thuds]-[grunts] Ow!

-Gosh, Uncle Gobo.-What in
the name of the Great Rock?

You really can find anything.

What is this doing
on the cave floor?

That's that missing pieceof
mallobite from my rock collection.

An explorer has
to know his rocks.

Well, the biggest rock
around hereis in your head.

[rock thudding]

Do you mean
that it's all mental?

Face it, boy. You'll
never be an explorer.

But I'm your nephew,
aren't I? It's in the blood.

[sighs] Wonderful.

-Wonderful.-Nephew.

-Yes, Uncle Gobo?-Come closer.

meher special Storyteller's pen,

-and I lost it.-[shushing]

-Yes. A wonderful
idea.-[Matt] "Wonderful."

Now, let's steal awayon
tippy-toe very quietly.

Yeah.

- [Matt] "Wonderful idea."
- That's a good girl.

-"Why do I even try?"
-[groans]

I'll go with you, Uncle.

Uh, no, no! Not
necessary at all.

But I learn somethingevery
time I go with you.

[thuds]

-[Uncle Gobo grunts] Back!

[Marly] The mushroom gatherers!

Fungus on the fungus! There's
no mushrooms left to eat!

[all clamoring]

[Marly] We'll starve!

We must think
this thing through!

-[Gobo] Well, then
what happened?-Yeah.

Wait a minute, wait a minute.
What's all this mushroom business?

How come they just
didn't eat radishes?

took place a long time ago.

-Yeah.-Before we even
knew what a radish was.

-[all exclaiming]-Now,

we Fraggles used to liveon
Doozer sticks and mushrooms.

mushroomsfor the Fraggles.

Now, naturally, Uncle Gobo chose
Matt, his number one apprentice,

to be his right-hand
Fraggleon this arduous trek.

[groans]I thought I told
you not to bother coming.

-Oh, no bother at
all, Uncle Gobo.-Oh.

Keep back, and don't
follow me so closely.

But I'm only trying to followin
your footsteps, Uncle Gobo.

Well, don't you just
keeptripping over them.

wall is loosening.

[screams]

I can't walk on it at all.

Ah. You blundering fool.

[groaning] Because of
you, my ankle's all twisted.

[grunting]

-My fault entirely.

There's no one leftwho's any
good at finding or exploring.

We'll starve.

[woman on tape] You'll find
yourselfthinking of new ideas,

ideas you have never had before.

And as you think of them,

-you will feel your
confidence growing.-[yawns]

That stupid tape hasn't

And I've been sitting
therefor the past half hour.

Well, let's face it, Sprocket.

-I really am no longer
an inventor.-[gasps]

[Sprocket whining]

[exclaiming]

I'll stop moaning about

[barks]

Things were looking

the mushrooms all gone,

the only thing between
themand total starvation

[all exclaiming]

We were eating them fasterthan
the Doozers could build them.

-[Gobo] Uh-oh.-Oh, no.

We were forced
to start rationing.

[groaning]

[Fraggle] I'm hungry.

[Fraggles clamoring]

Oh, this is terrible,
Miss Storyteller.

Yeah.

I'll say. Uncle Gobo is not goingto
be able to walk for a long, long time.

I must admit, I do feel
kind of responsible.

[chomping]

-Oh.-Oh, don't be so
hard on yourself, Matt.

There's no one elsewho could
do the job Uncle Gobo could.

Hey, I'm his apprentice.
What about me?-Yeah.

-[gasping] I have been waiting

-[Matt yells]-[Fraggles
clamoring]

to overreact. Um... Uh...

[panting]

Perhaps I'll returnat a
more opportune time.

Goboputs up with him.

I think he's kind of cute.

[groaning] Ha! You?

an explorer?-Mm-hmm.

[all clearing throat]

[chuckles] Anyway, as this
story goes, Uncle Matt ventured...

[Matt] Today I have
discovereda brand-new world,

a world full of
wonderfulstone formations,

but seemingly devoid
of intelligent life.

-[Pa Gorg snoring]-Huh?

Hello. Anybody there?

Peculiar. I thought I
heard some... [snoring]

I did. That mound over there.

Aha! Yes. It's a
fur-bearing fruit mound.

Bizarre.

[chomping]

[crows cawing]

Yuck! [spitting]

Oh, that fruit tastes awful.

I have a wonderful idea.

I shall gather
samples of its fur

so later Fragglescan
avoid its foul fruit.

-Yes, yes. It's a
wonderful idea.-[snoring]

-There we are.-[screams]

[screaming]

All right. Put 'em up.

[Matt] My attempt to get
samplesproduced striking results.

The mound was magically transformedinto
a mountainous hairy creature.

Astonishing.

-And astonishingly large
too.-[Pa Gorg yelling]

And then, another
mountainous hairy creature

carrying some bright
red bouldersjoined it.

-[Ma] Oh, Pa. What's
wrong?-I was over there...

Naturally, I stood my
groundand examined them both.

-Something came
along and bit me.-Aw.

Ah! Gird the gates!
Defend the drawbridge!

Bolster the bastion!

But we don't have a drawbridge,
Pa, and we're not under attack.

And why do you still
havethose stinkberries over there

[stammering] I'm merely awaitingthe
right moment, my little peach pit.

[Matt] After observing them for a while,
I decided to try speaking to them myself.

-[murmuring]-Yes,
that's it. That's it.

Perhaps, I could ask themto
help me find some mushrooms.

Yoo-hoo. Yoo-hoo.
Oh, hairy ones!

Can you tell me where a starving
Fragglecan find some mushrooms?

[screams]

-[Ma Gorg] Pa! Pa! Save me!-[Pa

a boulder as a gift.

-[Pa Gorg] There,

-[Ma screaming]-[Pa muttering]

-Oh, he's returned. Matt's

-Back, young Fraggle!

-And I have the most
wonderful news.-You found food.

-I found the entrance to
another world.-Another world?

And it leads to food?

[all cheering] [all cheering]

Wait, wait, wait, wait!

There was nothingwe
could eat out there.

-[all sighing]-But...

I found the most beautiful
red boulderfor my collection.

-[all groaning]-Oh,
you and your rocks!

-Ah!-It's mushrooms
we need. Mushrooms!

But it's not just any rock.

[panting] Some mountainous
hairy creaturesgave it to me.

They couldn't do enough
for me. They love us out there.

He's in worse shape than I
thought. The poor boy's hallucinating.

[Wimple] Hey, this smells
pretty good.[chomping]

What? Stop it.
That's my boulder.

Yeah, well, it's the best
boulder I ever tasted.

-Let me have it!-Get away!

Uncle Gobo! Stop it!

Mmm! I don't know how
it's possible, but she's right.

It's food.

-It's wonderfully delicious
food!-[Matt] Stop it!

[Uncle Gobo laughs]

-Matt, you did it.-You
can't blame me for this.

Matt, you found food. [chuckles]

- I did?-Yes. Don't be so modest.
- I did?-Yes. Don't be so modest.

You're an absolutelybrilliant
explorer, Matt.

-I am?-Yes.

I guess I am. Yes, I did
what I said I was going to do.

I said I would find food and I
did. I'm brilliant. Yes. I'm a genius.

-Step aside.-Huh?

You are in the
presence of greatness.

Yes, I have become
the complete dimp.

And that's the storyof
Travelling Matt's first journey.

-Great, right?-[all gasping]

-Wonderful story!-Yeah.

-And that was just
his first journey.-Yeah.

whatever journey

-[Boober]

-[Wembley] That was a

[chatters excitedly]

-There we are.-[whimpers]

I better take this out. Watch
your head there, Sprockie.

-[whimpers]-Sprocket!

-[barks]-I am an
inventor, and to think,

I was thinking of throwingthat
whole contraption out.

[growls]

Why, I made the discoverylike
all the other greats,

Bell, Edison,
through chance, luck.

I just stumbled into
the right solution.

Let that be a lesson
to you, Sprocket.

-[grunting]-Well, both of us.

I mean, I knew I had it, I realized
that, but I lost faith in myself.

Never lose faith in
yourself, Sprocket.

If you believeyou can do

-[barking]-So do it.

-[Sprocket exclaims]-[laughing]
