All of the original 1953's

The color contrast
out in the sunlight
is absolutely gorgeous.
Or, like this car
in particular,
out in the sunlight,
that interior damn near
matches the outside color.
It's amazing, but then
the sun hits it,
and the body rolls show
different colors of silver.
Where it's an open-top car
full-time,
you have to really
kinda realize that the,
the package is not just
the exterior
with an interior color,
it's all together.
Now, don't get overwhelmed.
Dave knows this is stressful.
He'll start
with something easy.
A lot of times you'll go
with something that has

a major contrast,
your white with red.
Or you go with something
that may be just
a little bit more flowing,
whereas the interior color's
really close
to the exterior color.
You know, I saw this car,
I didn't think I'd really like
that kind of contrast.
I'm open to that,
but I think I'm really
one of those guys
that would really like to have
a larger contrast to it,

based on anything

Just seeing these cars
has actually changed my, uh,
changed my mind in what
I originally came here
in what I was thinking
for a color of the car.

for maybe a blue

slate color today.
The last vehicle,
I studied three days
just to try and find a color,
and I only had three colors
to choose from.
So, we have
an uphill battle here.

Not white-white,
but, like, lighter colors?

can really work,
or you go with a cream,
which actually

or you go with a cream,
which would be more
of a contrast like this one.

A lot of times,
people can't decide
on the outside,
but they definitely know
what they like and don't like
for an interior color.
Well, I know
I don't like black.
I wouldn't put black
in an open-top car

So, black's been there,
done that,
this car here is perfection
the way it is.
It really comes down
to getting that absolute
color combination
of interior, exterior.

wouldn't pick a green,

he can make these colors
look absolutely beautiful.

a really great color,
this is a lot more
on the green side, but again,
green is very complementary
to a red.

paint schemes together
with interior contrasts
and stuff.
And really, I mean,
the champagne
with a light gray interior,
I think can be very elegant.

in, like, a linen color
or something really lighter.
This taupe color
with the silver-charcoal color
could be really interesting,
might be a little
bit conservative.
I know that
he likes blues, um,
to be honest with you,
blue suede shoes blue
is just a beautiful color,
is just a beautiful color,
I think it'd really show off
really well on the body shape.
And then just a really
light gray with maybe a hint
of blue leather.
I'm picking
the blue one, myself.
With his taste.
You know, we have
so many different ideas
of color combinations,
and to be honest with you,
just by just whipping a couple
of these up really quick,
I'm really quite convinced
that blue suede shoes
is gonna be the way
that he's gonna go.
And instead of putting
all three of these
or any of the other ones
that I've had in my mind
in front of him,
I think I'm just gonna
go ahead and do
the blue suede shoes one,

the light on it,
the pearls just come alive.

But when the light hits it,
it likes to dance.
[Dave] The colors
have been picked,
blue suede shoes blue
on the exterior with that
beautiful chrome,
and then on the inside,
a really light dove gray.
With the engine
all detailed and painted,

the chassis back
from powder coat.
The guys are over in assembly
are gonna go ahead and put
the motor, transmission,
and all of the drive
train together.
Get the chassis together,
get the wheels on it
while the guys
are painting the body.

of the headlights
is very round.
The rear is very round,
so it's tricky to drop down
and get to those areas.

That's the whole goal.

Most of it's pearl, so,
there's a little bit
of metallic, so,
the orientation coat's
gonna be quite easy.
But it still needs to be done.
This is like the fourth time
that the guys have assembled
this exact chassis,
pretty sure they can do it
in their sleep.
More we go down the road,
faster they go together.
This one's running
really smooth
compared to the...
The other two ran smooth,
but this one is getting
a lot smoother, probably.
But a day and a half ago,

We didn't have anything.
We have to run the wires
up through the body,
so we have those ready.

To get everything
level, right,
we make custom spacers
for each body mount
to make sure that it sits
down just right.
And we made these in fab
before they painted it.
Mating the body
to the chassis is important
to make sure it's perfectly
flat and level to the chassis.
So all the wheels fit
in the holes just right.
[Brax] We're trunk
upper-body mount.
These two here
go to those ones.
We're throwing these down
on the chassis real quick.
And then that
we know it's level.
We don't have to worry
about shimming it or anything.

And then once we drop
the body on it,
we'll put the bolts up
through the spacers
and, uh, lock her down.

with the paint sample
and this leather
I've fell in love with it

look absolutely elegant.

the darkest one of the CF1s
that we've done yet,
and it really shows off
the body lines.
The door panels are awesome,
they're dialed in
and ready to go.
Now all's we gotta do
is get the custom seats
put together.
[Justin] I've got these seats
patterned out.
I'm gonna sew them together.
These seats are
a little bit different.
You're only goin'
with the human eye,
so I got 'em pretty close.
This is the backrest.
I've already got two
of the bolsters
on the passenger's side
sewn up.

And the goal here
is to hit all these
tailor marks dead on.
That means the pattern's
gonna...
...the cover's gonna fit...
...for what I patterned out.
When you get a good pattern,
what you see is what you get.
Make sure ya hit that...

change the thread

to really take my time
to make sure I make a really
good straight line on 'em.

It's gonna fit nice.

up and ready on this,

to make these seats
more comfortable.

There's not a lotta room
in these Corvettes to add
as much padding as I'd like.
This only sits, actually...
...you're talkin' maybe
two inches off the floorboard.
And with one inch
of foam on that.
So I've got a few tricks
up my sleeve.

This one inch of foam
might not seem like a lot,
but the way I'm gonna do this
is gonna feel great.
Do the same thing
to the backrest,
as I did to the cushion.
And that's taking
neoprene-ness...
...and giving off that elastic
feel to it.
But you're also gonna have
one inch of good HR foam
and then the half inch
that I sew into.
So it'll be just
a good feel to it.
That's something me as a...
...genius...
...genius...
...come up with
with these hands.
[chuckles]
Magic hands!
Now I'm gonna grab
some neoprene,
uh, measure it out.
And I gotta stretch it
like crazy,
so you get that locked in.
It's a neat fit.
Get this drum sound.
That way there...
...you do not bottom
out on it.
And this is gonna...
This will be around
a long time
compared to a lot of products.
Because... if you think
about it, it's neoprene.
What they dive in it
all day long,
What they dive in it

and you don't just use
a suit once, you know.
So same deal.

where you gotta...
...finesse in all these lines
into place.
...to where it makes
it look good.
If you don't set it

super small
tuck and rolls.

so I'm pretty happy with 'em.

parts of building these CF1s
is simply picking the colors.
The crappy thing
is I like every damn
one of those colors.

Everything for these builds
has been streamlined.
And every time we put
one of these together
it goes just a little bit
quicker.
Now that the interior's
installed,
there's only one last thing
left to do.

These engines really
are capable of going racing.
But we want to tune these
so they're very drivable
and very powerful.
That was a lot cleaner.
But what I'm doing
right now is I'm adjusting
the fuel table.
Looking at the fuel graphs.
So, like, here we got
a little dip,
and I'll adjust this
little dip out.
We're gonna adjust
some of that
and then we'll be fine.
Just keep 'em
where we can drive 'em
and not tear 'em up.
I'd rather have a reliable car
than a car that breaks parts.

cloud cover, a beautiful day.
And it couldn't get any better
to show Shawn his new CF1.

We've had so much fun
developing this whole
combo for you.

We did settle on the blue,
with the lighter interior
which is kinda opposite
the direction I was
thinking of.

we made the right move

on actually seeing it
for the first time,
to see how everything
goes together.
Well...Well, you know, Dave,
we initially started
talking about... the car,
and what color scheme
we should be going with,
you gave me a ton
of different options.
We must have had
eight different options there,
from blues to yellows
to greys and, uh...

After seeing the car...
...I think you nailed it.

It's beautiful.

[Shawn] Seeing in person
completely exceeded
my expectations.
The contrast between that
stone grey interior
on that car and that blue,
and with the chrome...
the chrome just pops
on that dark color.
I couldn't be happier.
[Dave] I'm just so in love
with this combination.
It's beautiful, it's elegant,
it's got some good power
to it.

Building this CF1 for Shawn
has been a really great
experience
letting me get
a little more creative
with color combinations.
And this one in particular,
I think, was really perfect
for him.
This is the first dark
version of this car.
And seeing the body lines
with that darker paint
really just shows off
all of that beautiful
body work and the style lines.
[Shawn] There's not one
imperfection in this car,
it's perfect.
[Dave] I've seen
your man cave.

this is really gonna
be your centerpiece.

One of the things
that surprised me,
and that I wasn't aware of,
was the larger rim size
or wheel size on the car.
The wheels, you know,
I wanted to really, kinda,
come up with something
that was striking to the car.
And so by upsizing
the wheel to a 21 and 22
this one is different,
because this is the first set
that I've put the extra slots
into the wheel cap
and basically put
that red detail,
almost like the original
hub cap.
Very reminiscent
of the 1950s cars,
and the looks,
with that red in there,
and the looks,

-that looks fantastic.

[Shawn] Wow,
look at those calipers.
The CNC Machine,
the Kindig logo
on the calipers,
I think it just gave it
that little extra pop
on the car.
Wow, I still can't get over
the chrome against this
deep blue,
it's just fantastic.

it's gonna look beautiful
anywhere he takes it.
