Never looked so good.

Is it still strapped

The next project we have coming

We seem to be having

Dave: I've never really cared
for the gas doors

On these '62 corvettes.

They just look out of place.

Its the wrong shape,
so we're gonna get rid of that

And put it
somewhere creative.

We're no longer gonna have
the gas door,

So we just need to make
a panel that we can glass in.

We're gonna take our piece,
try to press this guy in.

Go back in one more time.

Ooh, that's gonna look good.

He's not gonna put that
nasty fiberglass experiment

We'll just let it get nice

Kevin: we're in the middle of
customizing a 1962 corvette.

One project in particular
required moses

To shave the old gas door.

Let's just say he came up with
an interesting way to do this.

So we're gonna check on
our little tasty morsel here

And see how it's doing.

Nice and hard.

The reason that we have
this "modeling clay" around here

Is because dave thought he was
a sculptor at one time,

And now we can't get rid of it,

And everyone tries to use it
for fancy projects.

I just really hope it works.

Moses: cool.

So I'll just basically
clean this out,

Lay some fiberglass in there,
and we'll have our panel made.

Dave: we've used modeling clay

For a lot of different
applications.

This one was kind of unique,
but it worked.

He made the new piece,
grafted it in,

And it turned out perfect.

All right. So I got about
four layers in there.

We got all of the bubbles out,

So I'm just gonna let this
probably about an hour,

And this will be good
to pop out.

We'll see how it works.

[ Clock ticking ]

Definitely gonna have to get
a bunch of that clay

That's stuck on there.

Same thing, just got
to clean it up.

We'll see how it fits.

It's the exact same size
as the gas door,

So we'll just have to fill that
little area around the edge.

Kevin: moses did a great job,

And I'm glad it worked out,
but we're done with that.

We're moving on.

Moses: oh, I'm about to tub
the fenders,

So I'm about to cut out all
this kind of inside stuff here,

And so I'm just trying
to get it all lined out

So I can chop it out of here.

Since corvettes from the factory
came with a tiny, skinny tire,

We're gonna have to go ahead
and cut these out

And put fiberglass tubs in,
so we can fit a way wider tire.

Nobody necessarily makes
an aftermarket tub

For these corvettes,

So what we do
is we take a trailer fender,

And it works out
immensely perfect.

Moses: I'm running into
a little issue here.

You can see right here.

When this comes down,
it's gonna hit it,

So I'm gonna end up cutting
that, kind of Fl*ttening it out.

We'll have a little flat spot
on the top of the tub.

We'll see how she fits.

Moses has the wheel tubs
fitting perfectly.

Now he just needs
to glass them in.

Onto the next.

Moses: so I got this bonding
putty here.

So I'm just gonna basically
put a whole lot

Of this up in there,
and it'll...

Just basically the same
as bonding two panels together.

So it adds a little extra from
the back side where I can't get.

Kevin:
so moses is gonna go ahead

And cut the tubs into the car.

He's gonna take a glue
and glue them in.

That's almost like a tack
weld with sheet metal.

He's gonna get those things
tacked in place,

And then he's gonna grind
the fiberglass back

And actually glass them
into the car.

This makes them part of the car
and strong.

Then all we've got to do
is come back in

And get these little corners
all nice and filled in.

Kevin: these new wider wheel
wells look great.

Looks like it came this way.
It's amazing.

So we got this fuel tank
for the '62 vette.

We're gonna try to get this
in here and sitting pretty.

The new idea for the gas tank

Is to be located
behind the rear axle.

This will basically be
at the bottom of the trunk lid.

I wanted to come up with
something as if they had built

The gas filler in the trunk lid
on 1962 corvettes,

And I think
I got a perfect plan.

So got a couple tabs ready.

Gonna tack them on
and get this thing hung.

First thing I need to do is weld
the mounts on the tank

And the frame of the car.

The welds are staying.

There's nuts on the top
here, so...

This is a really tight fit
for this tank.

I've only got about an inch
on each side to work with,

And then we actually got to
raise the floor up a little bit

So that we can get the exhaust
underneath the tank,

So just trying to cram
a bunch of...

I don't know.
What's the term?

In a 10-pound bag,

Or 10 pounds of poo
in a 5-pound bag,

It's one of those.

Yeah,
it's something like that.

I'm sure kris knows.

I know nothing about
pooping in bags. Okay?

Let's just let that be clear.

Hold that.

So we got the fuel tank
all mounted,

Super sturdy
and happy with it,

So we're gonna get
this thing covered up

With new floor and move on.

Moses: so we're gonna go ahead
and move the seats back.

Needs a little more legroom
in here.

Dave:
lloyd's about my same height,

And something
about these c1 corvettes

Is they were always very tight

Between the steering wheel
and the backrest of the seat.

There we go.

Dave: by moving this tonneau
cover back basically 4 inches,

This will make it
a lot more comfortable,

Much more like a modern car,

So he's gonna do a couple of
small sectionings and channeling

And basically move
that center section back

And then reglass it back in.

This will give it
a nice factory appearance.

My plan for it is to come in

And basically take
most of my distance

Out right about here,

Basically move this part back.

Nervous, yeah, I don't
want to mess it up.

I can't afford this thing
if I screw it up.

There we go.

Haven't screwed up yet.

Well, this little piece
is gonna go bye-bye.

Looks like it's gonna
work out pretty good.

Yeah, then I'll put a few
little fiberglass patches on

And then glass up
the rest of the cracks.

Dave: now that the interior
has been stretched

And all those modifications
are done,

Let's get to the rest
of the cool stuff --

The modifications
on the rest of the body.

Greg: got to make
this cutaway.

I need some help
mapping this out, guys.

One of the details that lloyd
was really specific about

Was looking at four
exhaust tips coming out.

This has been done before
on restomod corvettes.

I wanted to do something
a little bit more unique,

So we're actually
gonna french

The entire license
plate panel in,

Raising the license plate
up a little bit

And then really bringing
in some nice trim

And those four tips.

This is gonna look hot.

Before I take the chops out
of this back half of this car.

Jordan: the exhaust is about
that spacing,

So that's probably
gonna dictate

Your width at the bottom.

Cool.
Okay.

Looks like the line
is diagonal on there.

-Yeah.
-So the top is gonna be

About the size
of that license plate.

It looks like I might be
a little bit higher, too.

I was gonna cut
this piece out

In a kind
of trapezoid shape,

And then I figured

It was gonna be
a sheet metal piece,

And I'll just get that ready
for jordan

To do the exhaust down
through there on the bottom.

Yeah, that'd be fine.

So what's the width
on that?

Will: 15 1/2 there,
so there is 16.

You'll want
to double-check this.

I'm not sure who put
the center line on there.

Yeah.

Greg is gonna cut this hole
out for the surround.

Then jordan is going
to make the exhaust tips.

I think I got this thing
pretty well centered.

I'm taking my time in laying
this cutout right

Because if this is
what we end up using,

I don't want to have to go back
and try and straighten it out,

So even though
I'm cutting this out

Just to see how it looks,
it might be the final thing,

So I want to make sure
it's exactly right.

The hole is cut so jordan
can get started.

We'll check in on
greg's sheet metal in a bit.

Jordan: this exhaust system
is like many others,

A lot of tight spaces
and not a lot of room to work.

It'll just be, like, a dual-y
transition at the back.

We got the spacing
on the four tips.

Now our only challenge

Is to kind of get four into two

And then transition
that two into 3-inch,

So I pressed these out,
and I'll cut this out

So that their overall
circumference is 3 1/4 inches.

Kind of a theme with corvettes

Is to have
the four exhaust tips.

I think he's just trying
to give it a little bit

Of a modern look
on an old vette.

That's perfect-ish.

It's coming along pretty good.

Got these pieces
tacked together.

These guys, I put them
in the press

And flared them out
and squished them together

And then made a die
to get close to that shape.

And it's looking pretty decent
so far,

But it's getting pretty close.

I got these all welded together
and kind of tacked in place,

See how they fit and then start
mocking up a transition

To go from the back to here.

All finished connecting
the tailpipes to the rest

Of the exhaust and call it good,
weld it up and be done.

Will: now that jordan is done
with the exhaust tips,

Greg can get going
on this surround.

Greg: so now that I have the
opening exactly the way I want,

I'm gonna build
the recess panel,

And then I'm gonna
put trim on top,

And at the end,
the trim and this

Are gonna be the same height.

It's gonna be pretty sweet.

What are we waiting for?

-Wait in line, jordan!
-To use the shrinker...

Oh, okay.

-Don't cut!
-...shrinker stretcher.

Greg: people aren't gonna think
I'm a real fabricator

Because I'm wearing
brand-new boots.

Let's see how this sits.

Jordan, I think I'm starting
to get the hang

Of this metal thing.

It took me, like, 16 years,

But I think I know
what I'm doing now.

I'm still going at it.

Ah, you'll get there.

Thanks.
Someday.

You got to respect greg
for his confidence,

But, hey, at the end of the day,

I'll be the judge whether he's
mastered sheet metal or not.

How's she looking?

Oh, you almost got her
finished up, huh?

Yeah, I'm just about
to put it in place.

-I love it.
-Oh, man.

That gives a whole new look
to the rear end.

I like how you got the plate
in there, too.

Greg: yeah, it's ready to do
the trim piece.

It's gonna go around.

-Awesome.
-Yep.

And that trim piece
will be seamless.

How are you gonna mount
that piece?

You just gonna stud it
from the back side,

Or how do you
want to mount it?

I was thinking --
I put a couple holes

When I was just building
this piece.

Uh-huh.

I figured those six holes

Might hold the trim piece
pretty well,

So we could just do studs
that go through it

So there's no exposed
hardware or anything.

Oh, yeah.
Okay.

So you just put it
on all as one?

Yeah, that's what
I was thinking.

Dope.
So here's what the plan is then.

I want to do a polished
aluminum frame or chrome.

This piece right here, the
trim you're talking about...

Yeah.

...that needs to be done
in chrome as well.

We'll have the polished
stainless exhaust,

And then this inside housing

I want to do in, like,
an anthracite gray,

So it'll match, like,
the wheels, the engine.

Oh, cool, cool.

Yeah, it'll just really
kind of tie in,

And I think I might
do either anthracite...

I'm most likely gonna do
a dark anthracite

On the grill as well.
-Oh, right on.

So it'll just have all of that
kind of tie in, you know,

All the way around the outside.
-Cool.

I'm gonna give greg an a-plus
on his sheet -metal fabrication,

And while class is in session,
I got one more lesson.

Stock, not stock.

Stock, not stock.

Another thing to mention
at this point

With it cut all the way,

So I'm gonna just keep
cutting and see

If we can make it work.

Even though we did a 3-d model

the painted surface,

So I'm just gonna
kind of hover it above it.

It's getting pretty close.

I'm gonna cool it off,
and then I'll start twisting it

To lay down better.

You clamp it down on one side
and grab with the pliers

On the other side
and do the twist.

Got the pieces to lay down flat,

And after cutting off
the excess, it looks perfect.

Finished over the last
piece of trim.

It's all mounted in and solid.

As the next step, I think
we'll send it out to chrome.

It's pretty much done now.

Bryce: bodywork is almost done
and completed.

We just have one more thing
to complete before paint.

We need sand primer
and bondo and fiberglass.

You get it everywhere,
and the big challenges

Is getting it all gone
before I start painting.

The car is clean,
and it's primed,

And now it's time for color.

I think people are often
surprised and amazed

At how many colors
go in a regular color.

Like, you know, this is red,
and they'll be like,

"Well, I thought
it was just red,"

And there's, you know,
I don't know, 10 colors

That go into it.

-Are you ready?
-I'm ready.

You got
your workout arm on?

My workout arm
is always on.

We're good to go.

Dave: lloyd is a big fan
of ferraris,

And I came up with a color
that would be perfect for him.

It's called mugello rosso.

It's a ferrari color.

It was a vintage color,
but they still actually

Can put it on late models,
so we're gonna go ahead

And apply this to the outside
of this car,

And it should make it
look beautiful.

This color is so gorgeous
seeing it in person like this.

It's just beautiful.

Dude, I love it.

I'm glad
it's not super red.

It's kind of
on the maroon side.

It's gonna be a good one.

Next up, kevin has got
to assemble this chassis,

And that'll give us
the opportunity to have

That ready to go,
and then the body can go on.

So this is a morrison
for the '62 corvette.

It's got an irs, which is
a little bit more complex

To put together than
a standard straight axle.

Everything has been powdered,
painted.

It's all ready to go.

We just got to get it together,
so we can get the body

On this thing,
get the engine in.

Dave: this car is really
starting to shape up.

It looks beautiful
with the red paint

And that black chassis, which
makes putting the engine in

Just a little more
nerve-racking.

Kevin: we good on the end?

Let's start to tilt.

We in too far or we good?

No, we're good.

As it comes down, it's going
back, too, so be careful.

Yep, we're good.
We're good.

If you snag my harness,
I will m*rder you.

Man #3: hold up.
You're all right,

But the shifter
has only got about an inch.

Dave: we got to lower this
engine and transmission

Combination into the chassis

Without scratching anything
on the body or the chassis.

Whew.

Eric: we've only got
about 1 inch up here

Before we contact the body.

We need to get a jack
for the trans,

And we'll just watch
the tram off of it.

Kevin: we need to swing the
trans to the driver's side.

-I got it.
-Right there.

-Can I go down now?
-Yeah.

-Looks good back here.
-Just like that.

Did I mention how awesome
my crew is?

These guys got it in
without a scratch,

And that makes it
a lot faster to get it done.

Kevin:
looks great like always.

Now, this is the fun part where
everything starts to go on

For the final time.

We're getting
the door wrappers on.

Just adding a little bit
of glue

To the back of these.

You're good.

I think I got to have the clamps
in here first.

Very tight clearances.

There's some nickel bolts
sitting over by that exhaust.

Can you grab me one?

The left side is threaded.

Your left or my left?

The car's left.

The next phase of this build
is doing the upholstery.

That's gonna be a huge change.

These are a little more crazy.

It'll look nice.

So we get it all drawn out,
get it all cut out,

And we sew it
on a 1/4-inch scrim.

We can just play "tetris"
and hope it turns out.

We're just kind of
tag-teaming it

To help move the process along,

So I'm gonna do
all the french seaming on it

And then hand them off to him,
and he can get them installed.

Dave: doing this together
along with jason

Has really sped
this whole process up.

Just a few last pieces
to go on this car,

And we're off to vegas.

We've got our great friend
lloyd and lloyd junior out here

To see their 1962 corvette.

We just finished up
the sema show.

It's a perfect time
to give them their car back

And let them check out
what we've done.

Lloyd: we want a car
to look elegant.

We want to be understated.

It should look like
a '62 corvette,

But it should look like
an elegant '62 corvette.

Sounds as good as it looks.

Yeah.

Good morning, gentlemen.

-That is so nice.
-Good morning.

-Good morning.
-Lloyd, how are you?

-How you doing?
-Lloyd, I'm doing great.

Great to see you again.
-Oh, great to see you.

Better to see my car,
but, you know?

You know, that is
a beautiful machine.

Remember going back and forth
of this in deeper red...

-Yeah.
-...at the shop?

And it's, like,
this is the right color.

What do you think
with the chrome contrast

And the interior?
-It says understated elegance.

The color was perfect,
I mean,

And off light, it looks
like a deep burgundy.

On light, it looks
cherry-apple reddish --

Beautiful color.

Just the right amount
of chrome,

And this custom piece
you guys did is, like,

Unbelievable that you got
the tip on it,

You know, that arc on it.

That is gorgeous.

So under here, we had
another challenge,

And that was to take
this beautiful motor,

Except for the very top of it,
which is not so beautiful,

And try and make it tie in
with the rest of the car.

The bridge in the middle here
give me that curvature

That kind of goes with
the curvature lines of the car.

-Yep.
-It's pretty.

You know, the car is pretty,
and the engine is pretty.

Dave: after seeing their faces
looking in that engine bay,

I think I've got a couple
of pretty happy clients.

As you look at the side
of the car,

There's a lot of
small details again

That we did that
just are simple and clean.

Lloyd: I love it.
Cleaned it up,

And with the color,
you still see the contrast...

-Exactly.
-...on the lines.

The lines, we always
wanted this thing

To look like a '62 corvette.
-Yep.

But, you know, as you get
closer to it, you realized

There's something
special going on here,

But it's a '62 corvette.
-Yep.

All those beautiful lines
are still there

And, you know, accented
where we wanted them.

It's gorgeous.

The tires, the rims, yeah,
no, this is really good.

Dave: there's so many things
I love about this car,

But again, really,
it's the stance and the color

That really makes this whole
'62 package look perfect.

What I think you asked me for
in the beginning

Was four tips
in a corvette.

-Yep.
-There's your four tips.

All right.

I wanted someone,
when you come from the back,

To know there was something
going on here.

-Right.
-This is a bitchin' ride.

You look from the back,
you know it, right?

You'll know it.

This is no ordinary
'62 corvette.

So this car, all the innovation
we did, you know,

The thing
I like the most, that.

The craftsmanship here
is unbelievable.

The factory wouldn't do that.
It'd take too much effort.

Right, yeah.

Lloyd: as you look
at it from the back,

You know there's something
going on back there, right?

This is not a regular corvette.

It's got some oomph
inside of it.

So one of the other
big challenges you gave us,

Lloyd, was to get a little bit
more room in the cabin,

Which I totally agree
with you.

These cars,
you just always

Felt like you were sitting
right on the --

You know, your face is right
on the steering wheel.

So go ahead
and jump in there.

See what you think.
-Yeah.

Ah, this feels so good.

-Isn't that so much better?
-This is so much better.

Let me shut this for you.

-The gauges are unbelievable.
-Yeah.

Have that analog look plus
the digital components there.

-Yep.
-No, this is really nice,

And the leather we chose
was italian leather.

The color outside
the ferrari leather

And the blend
of the two colors --

It's just perfect.

It really looks elegant.

You know, they offset
each other well,

Complement
each other well,

And, again, we toned down
the chrome inside of the car.

[ Engine starts ]

Ooh.

Ah, she sounds...

-Bitchin'?
-...as good as she looks.

[ Laughter ]

Oh, no,
this is a bitchin' ride.

This is...

[ Engine revs ]
oh.

No, this is a car
that the family will enjoy.

My son, andres,
who is here with me,

We kind of share this car,
but this will be his one day.

It'll be my grandson's one day.
We're ecstatic.

We got one bitchin' ride.

And it looks
like a million bucks.

If I was to build myself
a 1962 corvette,

It would look
exactly like that one.

That's one bitchin' corvette.

One elegant bitchin'
ride, so...
