04x10 - Hope Creek

Post by bunniefuu »

Narrator: in guyana...

Turin: we got the plant,
we got the team --

Time to go to work.

Narrator: ...after quitting
their failing jungle operation,

Dave turin returns
to the promise of new ground.

But right away, he and todd
battle over mining plans.

Diamonds are the future.
Well, what about our gold?

Dave's determination
to start gold mining again...

Turin: look!

Narrator:
...means the hoffman crew...

Well, we're pretty much [bleep]

Narrator: ...is in for
the fight of their lives.

This jungle's eating us up.

Hey, todd, I think
we can finally say
we're jungle miners.

Narrator: in the klondike,
to save his season...

Parker:
[bleep] piece of [bleep]

Narrator:
...parker schnabel makes a deal

For a supersized wash plant.

Look at that thing.
Looking good.

[ Horn honks ]
but the deal is the easy part.

Holy [bleep]

Getting big red
up and over a mountain

Is a whole different story.

Ah, for [bleep] sake.

And in the wilds of alaska...

This is [bleep]

..."Dakota" fred risks it all

On a brand-new
piece of ground...

This is a genuine treasure hunt.

Narrator: ...and in the process,
destroys his wash plant...

I don't think the derocker
is rocking anymore.

...in an attempt to find out

If their new ground
is worth mining.

I can't wait to
tell the guys about this.

Narrator:
in the jungles of guyana,

After quitting three weeks ago,

Dave turin has been lured back
to the hoffman claim.

Turin:
I told todd I wasn't coming back
till he found good ground.

Now todd claims he's got
good ground, got good gold.

Now it's just up to
us to dig it up, put it
through the sluice box.

We got the plant, we got
the team -- time to go to work.

Narrator: dave's ready

To give
gold mining in south america

One more shot.

Dave turin.

Hey, todd.

You're back.

What's up?
[ Chuckles ]

I heard you found
some ground, huh?

We did, man. We did.
Nice.

Welcome back.

I got
something to show you.

Three weeks ago,
the crew discovered

Their claim at patience creek
contained garbage...

Ridiculous.

...but no gold.

It was already mined out.

Dave left, vowing to return

Only if todd found good ground.
There's no gold.

You find me some ground
with gold, then we'll move
mountains for you, todd.

But right now, I'm done.

Last week,
todd's luck changed

When he made an exciting
discovery at redemption creek.

Gold and diamonds --
that's a game changer.

Narrator:
todd abandoned gold mining

And bought a low-tech lavador
to catch the diamonds.

Our diamond quest begins.

Narrator: but dave didn't
come back to the claim

To mine diamonds.

I came here to mine gold,

And now I've come back here
for this?

Todd: it looks ugly
and everything,

But we've already got
one diamond, dave.

I really think
diamonds are the future.

Well, what about out gold?

There's gold, too,
in this location.

But I can't get the pay dirt

Through the jungle
to the frickin' trommel.

That trommel's the best
wash plant in this country.

You can have
the best plant in the world,

If it can't get the dirt to it,
it does you no good.

What if I got a road
from here

To patience creek
where the trommel is?

Dude, that's not even
frickin' possible.

Every road
we've tried to build's

Either been washed out
or the machine sinks right in.

I'll figure out a way,
okay?

I'm gonna get this dirt
from here to that trommel.

A mile and a half away,

The hoffman's $300,000
gold-catching trommel

Sits idle.

Dave plans to clear a road
through thick swamp and jungle

To redemption creek's
gold-rich ground.

The crew can then haul pay dirt

Back to the trommel
for processing.

This road is critical.

If I can't get dirt
to this plant, it's worthless.

Mekdeci gave us 150 days,
and we're

Halfway through it and we don't
have anything to show for it.

So I got to get this road,
get it built,

And start hauling pay.

That's a big tree right there.

This is the part
where I get kind of nervous.

Like, that tree
right there should --

[ Clang ]

Look!

Yeah, I'm fine.

That'll get the blood flowing.

I don't know if it would have
k*lled me, but it was close.

Narrator:
north, in the klondike,

It's 12 weeks into the season,

And parker schnabel's mine
is at a standstill.

Parker: what the hell
are we gonna do now?

Narrator:
little blue is dead

And parker only has 120 ounces

Of his 800-ounce-season gold.

I mean, right now,
we're dead in the water.

I mean, no wash plant,
no washing rocks, no gold.

That's why we're here.

And without a plant,

We're screwed.

Narrator: last week,
parker pushed little blue

To run 100 yards an hour.

Parker: here we go.

Narrator:
the 40-year-old wash plant

Shook itself to death.

[ Metal grinding ]
what the hell's that?

Man: it's got to be the shaft
that drives the shaker.

We're not gonna be
welding that back together.

[Bleep] plant.

Narrator:
now parker's brought in

The only man that could save
his wash plant

And his season --

Freddy dodge.

[ Metal clanging ]

So, how bad is it?

Well, besides
your main drive shaft, parker...

It's wore out.

The decks are shot.
The sides are shot.

You're gonna have to
replace everything on it.

It's junk.

We can't just not sluice.

If I were you, parker,

I'd be looking for
a new wash plant.

Yeah, but it's the middle
of the mining season.

Every wash plant that's up here
that's worth anything

Is running right now,
finding gold.

I know one that isn't.

The hoffman's plant from
last year. I got it from todd.

Big red?
Yeah.

I mean,
I'd love the plant,

But I don't think
I could afford it.

Well, I'll tell you what,

Right now
it's just sitting over there.

You lease it
for the rest of the season,

We'll
figure something out.

Sounds like a deal to me,
freddy.

Don't break it.

Narrator:
big red got the hoffmans

$1 Million in gold
last season.

It has one of the biggest
sluice boxes in the klondike.

And it's capable of running

But big red

Is 35 miles from scribner creek.

Parker and gene are on their way
to meet a man

Who just might be able to
transport the massive wash plant

To parker's claim.

I mean, he's
a pretty big-time miner up here.

He's got lots of gear,

Lots of trailers
and lowboys and semis,

So hopefully
he'll have what we need.

And I sure hope
he wants to move this thing.

Hey, guy.

Favron:
parker, how's it going?

Good. How are you?

Narrator:
guy favron and his family

Have been mining the klondike
for nearly 40 years.

I just worked out a deal
with freddy dodge

To get big red.

And we're trying to figure out
a way to move it.

And we've heard you might have
the semi and trailer combo

That will do the job.

This truck here
that we've got.

Oh, geez.
Pretty impressive truck.

Yeah, I think
this is the answer.

So this would handle
the plant,

But then
there is another load

With the conveyers
and the stands,

And you've seen
the sluices on that thing.

So I don't know if
there was any way we could
fit that in, as well,

If you have another trailer
or another truck available.

Well, we got the tractors.
I don't know about the time.

I know
it's kind of short notice,

But...
Plant died short notice.

Yeah,
I hate to see anybody

Wasting good sluice time.

I'm pretty sure
we could fit it in there.

Thanks, guy.
You bet.

It's great that guy
wants to help out, you know?

We're in a pretty tough spot
right now.

We haven't been sluicing now
for a few days, and it's --

It's getting pretty tough.

Nobody likes going broke.

Narrator:
in guyana, todd's lavador crew

Is working flat-out, mining
redemption creek for diamonds.

Todd: there is good gold
in those holes right there.

If dave can get it to the plant,

I think we're gonna
do really good.

Narrator: half a mile away,

Dave is making progress
on the new road

To get redemption creek's gold
to the trommel.

It's actually going quite well.

I'm pretty happy with the road.

I think our truck should be able
to get up and down this thing

Without too much of a problem,
so I think it's gonna work.

Well, I'm almost there.

We are really close
to redemption creek.

We're going downhill.

Holy crap.

It's getting swampy here.

This is not good.
There's a lot of water here.

That's at least six feet deep.
I'm not gonna get across that.

[Bleep]

This is bad news.

Narrator:
dave's road is a dead end.

I can't
get an excavator across there.

The only way
would be to build a bridge,

And I don't have time
to build bridges.

We're screwed.

Redemption creek
is not going to that trommel.

Narrator:
at porcupine creek in alaska,

Instead of gold mining,

The dakota boys
are filling in the glory hole

Once and for all.

Yeah, we'll be covering up
that damn waterfall yet.

We had some big dreams
set on that punch bowl.

It's sad,
but it's time to move on.

Narrator: more than
halfway through the season,

Their situation is dire.

Of their 320-ounce-season gold,

They have just 11 ounces

Worth less than $16,000.

We should have had 50 ounces
in the box already

Without even hardly trying.

And we didn't even reach 20.

Not good.

Not good.

This is the last bucket.

Punch bowl is...

...no more.

Narrator:
last week, dustin went up

To prospect
their new mountain claim --

Cahoon creek.

Dustin: get my dig on!

He found great gold
from just a few test holes.

Dustin:
that is a lot of gold.

We need to
start mining up there.

I would make so much more gold
there than here.

Narrator: now, with
the glory hole filled in,

Dustin thinks cahoon could
save their mining operation.

We need to
start mining up there.

Hey, that'd be nice.

But it's
an expensive proposition.

We got some good results,
though.

Even though we're not
getting much gold from here,

I could probably get
a bunch of gold from up there.

I want to see what's up
in cahoon just as bad as you do,

But initial investment --
you're talking

Probably 100,000 bucks
right off the bat.

And I don't know
if I can afford the expense.

Porcupine creek --
you got to pay the bills there.

We're gonna have to be
doing some production here.

Or I go invest
in a bunch of money up there.

This is reality.

Setting up cahoon
could cost $100,000,

But with
the glory hole closed up,

They have no source of gold,
no income.

What's the plan?

Well...

I think the gold is

Downstream.

We're gonna have to
expand this whole area out here.

You're starting a new cut
out here?

Yeah.

I mean, we're going way back
by them trees over there,

Almost over to the plant,

All the way to those trees
on the other side.

That thing
is gonna be huge.

All right.

Hemmed in by porcupine creek

And a steep bedrock wall,

It's impossible
to expand the pit upstream.

Fred's plan is to dig
in search of pay dirt downstream

At the opposite end of the hole.

We've got to our get way dug
back down to some real material.

Do what we got to do to
get it -- move a lot of dirt.

This is a genuine treasure hunt.

Narrator: the crew has to move
thousands of yards of overburden

Before it's even worth
testing for pay dirt

In the new downstream cut.

Fred: we don't know if there's
gold down here or not.

But this is
one of our last chances

To get us some good gold.

There needs to be good gold
in this thing.

[ Thud, clang ]
[bleep]

[Bleep] that's
harder than hell to dig.

Narrator: 25 feet down,

The material suddenly changes.

He's having a tough time
digging that stuff. That's
what we want to see.

We want this to be tough,

Which indicates
it's virgin material,

And that's
what we're looking for.

All right, I'm gonna
try to see if I can get
a pan off of that.

We'll know in a few minutes
as to

What we got here or don't have.

Narrator:
this far into the season,

Fred desperately needs to find
new gold-rich pay dirt.

Or it could be game over
for porcupine.

Fred: oh.

Narrator: to be worth running,
he needs to see

At least 10 colors in the pan.

Fred: let's see.

All right.

Got a few little ones
right in there

That are making it worthwhile.

If I can pan it, I say we
ought to go ahead and run it.

Hey, guys.

We got gold.

I'll go have them
crank the plant up.

[ Engine running ]

Tallis: whoo-hoo!

Melody, go ahead
and put some in the plant.

Here we go.

Narrator:
after three long seasons

Digging the glory hole,

Fred and his crew
are now mining new ground

At porcupine creek.

Porcupine gold.

We know it's here.

All we got to do is find it.

Fred: run, baby, run.

Get that gold.

Narrator: in the jungle,

Todd's lavador crew
is mining for diamonds,

But the redemption creek dirt
also contains gold.

Dave's attempting
to build a road to get to it,

But he's hit a dead end.

Todd: todd to dave.

Don't see a road
over here, dave.

I can't do it, todd.

I'm right up to
this swampy area,

And I cannot get across it.

If I start
across that creek,

I know I'm gonna
get this excavator stuck.

I really don't know what to do.
You got any ideas?

I'm gonna go ahead and send
tony melville over there,

And I'm gonna
send him up the draw

And see if he can
find a way around.

I mean, this guy
can get around in the jungle.

You and I are gonna
wind up getting bit by
a snake or something.

Todd: dave's the best
road builder I've ever met,

And he's struggling down here.

This is the most insane
environment

To build roads,
prospect, and mine gold.

I thought we were gonna come
down here and slay the dragon,

But I'll tell you what --
this jungle's eating us up.

It's eating us up bad.

Narrator: tony melville
grew up in this jungle.

He found the gold and diamond
ground at redemption creek.

Now tony has to help dave
finish his road

From the trommel
to the pay dirt at redemption.

So, redemption creek's
right there.

And then I come down here
and I hit this stupid swamp,

And I don't know
how to get around it.

So there's a chance that
there's gold at this creek?

Prospect it?

Turin: gold mining
is such a roller coaster.

Now there's an opportunity,

If there's gold down there,
I can get it.

Hopefully there's
something special here.

There it is.
There it is.

That's
what I'm talking about.

You may have just
saved our season

With this pan
right here.

I don't have to go to
redemption creek. I don't
have to cross this.

I'm gonna mine this creek.

We're gonna call this hope creek
because I just --

All I had was hope,
and it's got gold.

That dirt right there's
going to little red.

It's going in the trommel,
and we're gonna sluice it.

Narrator:
porcupine creek, alaska --

The dakota boys
are running pay dirt

From their new downstream cut.

Fred: we're just digging it,
running it, washing it.

Slap my hand
if they don't find no gold.

Jeremy:
yeah, I'm pretty glad to get
the plant back up and running.

Tallis: we got a lot of gold
to make up for here.

[ Thud ]
[ metal grinding ]

[Bleep]

You guys, I don't think
the derocker's rocking anymore.

[Bleep]

I need a shutdown.

Hurry, jeremy.

Narrator: after
just five hours of running,

They're forced to shut down.

I don't know what's wrong.
I just got to figure it out.

[Bleep] [bleep]

This machine's
been great for us,

But it breaks down
at the vital moments.

All right,
fire it up one time.

[ Engine turns over ]
[ metal whining ]

Whoa. Whoa.

[ Engine shuts off ]
something [bleep] up.

Lever is hung up in there.

Narrator:
the derocker's motion-control
switch isn't moving.

Without a working switch,
the deck is immobile.

We're gonna have to
look inside, see what's
creating our problem.

Set it down right there.

All right. Let's go see
what the problem is.

Aw, man.
I ain't believing this.

Dustin:
something's supposed to
hit the lever in there.

Those little striker bars --
they're gone.

So there's
one on this end,

And there's one
on the other end.

Somehow,
we broke off both of them.

Narrator:
the derocker's deck is moved

By a wheeled carriage
that travels up and down.

As the carriage moves,
two striker bars hit a lever

Triggering
a motion-control switch

That changes the carriage's
direction of travel.

Without the striker bars,

The carriage
can't change direction

And the derocker is useless.

The hydraulics won't work
if we can't get this set right.

And it's real delicate,
and we're not delicate people.

And we need to determine

Exactly where to weld them on
that does it.

There's nothing obvious in here
where they broke off at.

All right,
start the engine up.

We're doing test runs
to try to figure out

Where the switching mechanism
actually was.

Narrator:
if the replacement striker bars
are installed too far apart,

The carriage won't
be able to change direction.

Whoa, whoa. Stop.

I can't tell
if they were here or here.

But if they're
too close together,

The deck will move too quickly

And the derocker will jam.

We're gonna assume
that is where it goes.

Y'all ready?
Yeah.

All right. Fire that thing up,
there, jeremy.

[ Engine turns over ]

The welded-on striker bars
must activate the switch

Before the moving carriage
hits the end of the derocker.

Dustin: that looks good.
Keep it running.

Back the other way.

Nailed it. Yeah.
Tallis: it's looking good.

Yeah!

The other way. Let go.

Great job.
Man, I like that.

Now all we got to do
is put the deck back on it.

Do your thing.
Put it out there.

That is
one big piece of steel.

Narrator:
the 10,000-pound deck

Hangs over the wash plant.

What I'm most worried about
is it cutting loose.

So when it uncurls,
it just -- brrr!

And, man, it hits so damn hard
that it rips up everything.

Curl your bucket
a little bit.

Yeah, there you go.

Narrator:
dustin wants to take his time.

But fred
is eager to get back to mining.

Let's set it down.

Dustin: I don't think
you remember how we do this.

Slow it down.
This is [bleep]

I want you to push
the end of the thing down.

No.
You --

Follow directions.

It'll take care of it
in about five seconds.

All right, I'll shove it.
[Bleep] it.

Let's break something.

If it cuts loose, that's [bleep]

It's death waiting right there.

This is so dumb.

Disconnect.

One derocker deck in place.

It's not stressful
if people would just

Calm down and follow directions.

We're ready to run.
Good job.

Fire it up!

[ Engine turns over ]

Looks like
we got her fixed there.

Narrator: porcupine creek
is back in business.

Dustin: whoo!
We're back in operation.

Looks great. We're making gold.

Narrator:

Is taking on a massive move

That will make or break his
first klondike season.

It only takes one screw-up
to ruin this whole deal.

Narrator: his monster
new wash plant, big red,

Needs to be loaded onto lowboys

For a dangerous 35-mile trek
to scribner creek.

Favron:
hey, parker. Parker!

Parker: look out!

[ Metal clangs ]
for [bleep] sake.

Sorry.

Favron:
parker must be stressed.

Parker:
I'm not sure where I was going.

Favron: any day that
you're not sluicing right now,

It's hard on you.

Narrator: the biggest challenge
is the shaker deck --

Weighing in at 10,000 pounds.

The wash plant -- it's tall

And looks intimidating
and everything else.

It's just --
worst part about it is gonna be

Getting it up onto the trailer.

Narrator: too big to lift,
parker's only option

Is to drag the shaker deck
onto the lowboy.

Guy, you want me to
track more?

Yeah, a little bit.
Careful though.

This wash plant
is really top-heavy.

You know, you move it
an inch and it feels like
it's gonna tip over.

Let's do it.

Come on, you piece of junk.

Narrator: it takes
all the excavator's power

To moves the shaker.

Looking good.

A little bit more.

Whoa. Easy, cowboy.
[Bleep]

[Bleep]
it's not on straight.

Narrator:
the shaker deck is on crooked.

Pick it up a bit with
the loader on that back end,

And I can spin it around
with the hoe.

Narrator:
another few inches and it will
topple off the trailer.

If this thing tips over,
we're really screwed.

Let's go out there, gene.
Back up a little.

Gene steps in
with the loader.

The shaker deck balances
on the edge of his bucket.

Right there.

Parker attempts to pull
the wash plant back in line.

Cheeseman: have parker
back off a little on it.

It's on and straight.

Try and pull.

Dodge: that's perfect.

Should be good.
Good to go.

You know, we got it up
and on the trailer,

But that's only half the battle.

We still have to
get it over to our site.

You know,
that's a mountain in between us.

Narrator:
in guyana, dave turin

Has found gold-rich pay dirt
at a new jungle location --

Hope creek.

He's about to haul
the first load to the trommel.

Turin: this is
the game changer right here.

I'm tired of
mining old tennis shoes

And just
other people's tailings.

Right here's gonna
change our season.

Finally we're gold mining.

Narrator:
dave's new jungle road

Is about to
face its first test --

A loaded rock truck

Weighing over 100,000 pounds.

[ Horn honks ]

Okay, andy,
give me a nice little push.

[ Thud ]

Come on, baby.
Come on, baby.

Get up that road.

Come on, girl.

Okay, here's the tricky part.
Come on, baby.

Get up. Come on, girl.
Come on, girl.

Come on. Don't stop now.

[Bleep]
dang it.

[Bleep]

Narrator:
dave is going nowhere fast.

Turin: she's messed up.

Thought I could
get through here,

And it's all [bleep] for mud.

I'm right behind you,
dave. I can push if
you need a push.

Yeah, you need to push.

I'm pushing.
Ain't nothing happening.

Spinks: what to just do
it with the excavator?
Get in front of you?

Turin: sure. Try it.

Well, we're pretty much
[bleep] okay?

I can't get the load out.

I can't run a trommel.

This place does not
give up the gold easily.

Come on.

[Bleep]

Hold it. Hold it. Hold it.
Hold it. Hold it.

[Bleep]

Narrator:
the fully loaded rock truck
is just too heavy

For the
super-saturated jungle floor.

[ Sighs ]

Andy.

I'm gonna dump it.

To get out, dave has no choice

But to ditch his load
of gold-rich pay dirt.

Turin: unbelievable.

Maybe it can't be done.

Narrator:
north, in the klondike,

Big red starts
its 35-mile mountain journey

To scribner creek.

Tied down...
About 30 feet in the air,

But here goes nothing, yeah.

Let's get this [bleep] show
on the road, here.

[ Horn honks ]

Narrator: parker and guy
haul the wash plant.

Right behind them, neal lovelace

Takes the sluice and conveyors.

Up ahead --

Quartz hill,
a 2,000-foot climb

On dirt and loose rock.

This is the steepest part
of the hill coming up.

Yeah,
and it's all on bedrock,

So it really
gets [bleep] treacherous.

Guy's specialized terberg rig

Can haul 270,000 pounds...

[ Engine revs ]

Oh, there's
a beautiful shift.

...and it's
using everything it's got

To get the oversized load
up the hill.

Get in there.

[Bleep]

Easy.

Awesome. Yeah!

[ Both laugh ]

Now we're
getting somewhere.

Half a mile behind them...

[ Thud ]
lovelace: what the [bleep]

[Bleep]

Narrator:
...neal has a problem.

[Bleep]

With a back-heavy load,

There's not enough weight
over his drive wheels.

And the road is too narrow

For guy to turn around and help.

Lovelace: [bleep]
so we're spun out here again.

Narrator: there only hope
is gene's pickup.

I'm trying to
catch up to you here.

I'm just
at the top of the hill now.

Gene's gonna hook onto me,

And we'll
pull ourselves out here.

Let me get a little
tension on her before you start.

We'll see how it goes,
though.

Just graded the road.
It's all loose and fluffed up.

Got to just
help him up a little.

[ Metal clangs ]

Ah, for [bleep]

Narrator:
with its load, neal's semi

Weighs 120,000 pounds --

More than eight times what
gene's truck is rated to tow.

All right, buddy,
lean into it.

Look at that.

We made it.

[Bleep] [bleep]
parker.

The final stretch
into scribner creek

Ends with a tight switchback.

What kind of corner's
this?

You're not gonna make that,
are you?

Turn, you [bleep]

What the [bleep]

Guy can't make the turn.

Oh [bleep]

This when
it pisses me off.

And there's
no room to back up.

His only option --
drive up the embankment.

Let's go.

But it risks flipping
the top-heavy wash plant.

We've got cages shaking.

Wait. Wait.

Easy. Easy.

Put the throttle to her,
guy.

Holy [bleep]

[ Horn honks ]

Scribner creek now has
one of the biggest

And baddest wash plants
in the klondike.

Look at that thing.
Looking good.

We've got ourselves
a nice, new wash plant.

Big red can process

More than twice as much pay dirt
as little blue.

Keep going.

Parker schnabel has joined

The klondike big leagues.

Little blue dying may have been

One of the best things
that happened this season.

Narrator: at redemption creek,
todd's lavador crew

Is mining for diamonds
guyana style.

Yeah, you can't
get any more hands-on than this.

Any pieces
bigger than about that

Could jam up the pumps.

Hiatt:
this is a crazy-weird job,

But the pay potential
is right up there.

You find out
who your hard-core dudes are.

Narrator: in alaska,

The dakota boys
are running pay dirt

From their new downstream cut.

The nature of gold mining --

Sometimes it's there,
and sometimes it's not.

And when you hot, you hot.

And when you not, you not!

Narrator:
but with half the season over

And only 11 ounces of gold
worth less than $16,000,

Fred needs the new cut to pay --

And big-time.

We've been working hard
all the way up to this point,

But we haven't had --

We don't have anything
to show for it.

Fred: shut it off.

That should do it.

Narrator:
it's been a long week,

But with the derocker down,

They've only managed to
run the new dirt

For 20 hours.

Tallis: holy cow.

Hey, fred, dustin, you might
want to come look at the box.

This whole thing
is packed full of gold.

Make me a happy man
to see a little gold
in the sluice box.

Look at that.
Holy gold. [ Chuckles ]

That's probably the
heaviest nugget I've
ever seen yet.

Whoopee!

Getting gold again!

Best thing to do
is to clean it up,

Say yeah,
it was a good cleanup.

Fred: this from about
our last 20 hours of running.

Things have really changed
at porcupine creek.

Wow, look at that coming up,

Coming up, coming up.

Wow.

Oh, I can't wait to
tell the guys about this.

Hoo hoo hoo.

What'd you get, fred?
All right.

What's your guesses?

Jeremy: I said 10. 10.
5.

Tallis: I said 7.
Y'all are all wrong.

Damn.

Boy, was the a clean-out
or was that a clean-out, man?

Narrator:
in only two full days
of running their new ground,

The dakota boys have
almost tripled their gold count.

I kind of figured that hole
would pay off pretty quick.

Narrator:
they now have 31 ounces of gold

Worth over $43,000.

This is gonna be
a good year.

Whoo-hoo!
[ Chuckles ]

You know what? It turns out
that fred was right.

There was some gold
in that hole, and I'm
damn glad to see it.

I didn't expect that much
at all.

It was a big surprise.

Narrator: the dirt
from fred's new downstream cut

Pays $14 a yard --

Richer than any pay dirt
they've ever run

At porcupine creek.

I thought the gold was
in the bottom of a waterfall.

Here it is sitting

It doesn't make any sense to me,
but I'll take it.

It is great
to look at that gold,

But it's better
to go out there an dig it.

[ Back-up signal beeping ]

Narrator: down in guyana,

Dave turin
wants to haul pay dirt

From hope creek
to their trommel.

But first, he has to
reinforce his new road.

So far, so good.

What used to be a tree
is now gonna be

A makeshift bridge in the road.

This is how
fred flintstone did it,

And this is how
we're gonna do it.

Narrator: if they are ever
going to mine hope creek gold,

Dave's road must be passable.

Turin: this is it.
The road's done.

The moment of truth.

Can I get any pay out of here?

Okay, here we go.
You ready?

Come on, girl.
Come on, girl.

Climb it.

Keeping momentum up
through the sand.

Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig, dig!

Almost to the top.

Yeah, baby!

We're hauling pay! Finally!

Whoo-hoo!

Okay, logie, here we go.

Narrator:
for the first time in a month,

Dave fires up
the jungle trommel.

Turin: feels really good
to see this trommel running

And to hear
the sound of the machinery.

Feels good to run something

That's actually
got some pay in it.

Narrator: the hoffman crew
is mining for gold

For only the second time
this season.

Frickin' awesome.

Trommel's running, man.

Kind of nice to see us
actually mining again.

Todd:
we're the only guys that we know

That have a diamond mine
and a gold mine.

Narrator: they are now
mining for gold at hope creek...

And diamonds
at redemption creek.

Hey, todd, I think
we can finally say
we're jungle miners.

The jungle's been kicking
our a*s, and hopefully today,

We're gonna start kicking back.
